Full textThe representations of victims in the media were analyzed in more general researches on the social reactions to the crime, but more rarely in the intrinsic mechanisms of the relation media-victims; an interaction which, let us imagine, possesses his own dynamics. Our theoretical reflection took support on an approach which journalistic exercise is considered as material and symbolic production based on interactions and social standards. The social logics determine the functioning of the journalistic practices through the various forms of interactions and dependences between the journalists and the society to which they belong. These engender representations which result from interpretations elaborated by the journalists of the social environment. The media space which seems accessible to the victims is it, really, only for a certain type of victims. We assist, obviously, a media exploitation targeted by the suffering of the victims and the representations which they embody. Besides, the exaggerated attention carried to the victims contributes to provoke a discursive formatting where several media impose their own specific railings on the reading of the "reality" which is other one than the way she treats the subjects of their preoccupation. This media exploitation of the suffering knows in his turn a second political exploitation. From there, it is not surprising any more to confuse “true” and “false” victims since the media validation of the suffering, got back by a “political doggedness”, seems to get the upper hand over the judicial and\or medical pledge. We have to hope that the " media due skids " in the conformist treatment and compassionnel to these victims, stressed by evident trade and political interests, will allow a questioning of the journalistic practices. A return towards ethical rules, among which media and journalists will assure the application and the respect, seems inevitable

"Les ADFI : de l'affectation des parents d'adeptes à une approche non conceptuelle du "sectaire" : une contribution à l'étude de la constitution des problèmes publics ainsi qu'à l'élaboration d'une pragmatique de la connaissance." Full textThis thesis deals with the “sectarian” problem while being interested in the role of a specific actor: the ADFI. In doing so, it tackles the more general question of the constitution of social problems. Rather than assuming that the “sectarian” problem is pre-existent to the engagement of the studied actors, this work shows how their actions are constitutive of this problem as a public problem. Thus being introduced into the forge of social, it appears that the actors participating into the legitimation of the “sectarian” scheme, are not, from start on, alike in respect to a specific characteristic that they would share. This thesis then introduce to a research on what can make community towards in terms of tests and validations appearing in action. It is in action, confronted with precise cases, that ADFI volunteers seem to meet and agree. Sense shared in common seems to emerge from sensitizing to one lived, or sensibility to what is produced or from some adjustments and some agreements inter-subjective and inter-objective obtained in situation, i. E. In the sequential course of an activity. The collective action also appears as what constitutes the materiality/objectivity of the “sectarian” problem. This thesis shows indeed that it is in collaborations of human/nonhuman beings put in network that the knowledge of the ADFI is constituted. Elements at the base discursive, singular, related to the subjectivity of an actor, are seen transformed into materials of investigation then in elements of knowledge on precise groups valid for a whole collective of actors. Thus open a voice more not to consider cognition like a mental and internal phenomenon and to finally take into account the externality of the cognitive processes
Silva, José Luis da. "Le rôle du droit dans la situation des victimes face à la responsabilité médicale." Paris 8, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003PA082241.
Full textVictims have long been the cast offs from the law; in fact law institutions have never really minded about their lot. The mere reading of Article 1382 of the French Civil Code highlights the fact that our legislative system is based only on the person responsible and does not take victims into consideration. This elision undoubtedly impairs the laws of responsibility in the medical field. This lack of consideration from the law may account for the altruism expressed by the magistrates faced with the precarious situation of the victims and that can de felt as well during the procedure (First part) as during the trial itself (Second part) and the process of compensation (Third part). Even if the study of the different compensatory phases clearly shows that the magistrates think carefully about the victims' viewpoint, the law nonetheless lacks of consideration for the victim whose situation stills bears the traces of instability and iniquity

Full textOn January 10th, 1960, two senior newspaper editors held a meeting in Tel Aviv. The two editors constituted a special subcommittee of the Editors Committee that had been appointed to make an unusual decision in favour of self-censorship. The decision set limits on the quantity and contents of published articles on the subjects of suicide and rape. This research examines various aspects of that decision and the conditions that enabled it to be taken, based on different aspects of the situation in Israel at the time: the mass migration, the status of the journalists and their relations with the leaders, and the prevailing laws. It is possible that the January 1960 decision, the focus of this research, evolved from the belief of the editors and policy-makers, that the press had a moral, mental, emotional and psychological effect on the newspaper consumers, in addition to its role of spreading information. This self-imposed restriction on detailed publication on the subjects of suicide and rape, may have originated from their intention to prevent psychological and criminal damage, and copycat cases. There may have been another reason for taking this decision which was that David Ben Gurion, the Prime Minister at the time, directed the editors to take it in order to prevent the exposure of the difficulties prevailing in those years. This is the first research about self-imposed censorship on the subjects of suicide and rape, and the first examination of the self-imposed censorship decision taken by the Editors Committee in January 1960. The research will show that the decision was implemented partially and for a limited time only. The analysis shows that the reduction of publications and changing the terminology following the decision had no influence on the quantity of suicides, attempted suicide cases and assaults. In both suicide and rape, the decision did not reduce the number of actual cases

Full textThe representation of the Kurds on French television was built in time. Its construction is conditioned by a double evolution, social and political of the Kurds, but also of France. Understanding the mechanism of this construction and its evolution is the subject of this study which analyzes images broadcast over a long period. Our study thus takes into account the genesis of this representation in 1960 and up to its media heyday symbolized by its resistance to the Islamic State from 2014. It is through an analysis of news reports and television news in a semio perspective. -discursive that we question the content and the enunciative range of the media, but also political discourse of France, on the Kurds. How the rebels of the sixties became resistant, interlocutors and friends of France? The overall understanding of the televisual discourse can not be grasped without also taking into account the unspoken and implicit part of informations ; and who can explain the enunciative attitude of the media authorities with regard to the Kurds!

Full textFighting against abuse make professionals question what belongs to mistreatment and what does not. This ambiguity intensifies the conflictual dimensions in care work and calls for negotiation practices. This research is based on individual and group interviews, as well as observations in several professional settings. A relational approach is used to understand the dynamics of violence in professional situations. The threshold of morally acceptable practices is based on a compromise built during the interaction with actors’ intersubjectivity within a zone of shared tolerance. This zone is used as a space of self-regulation before a potential report of abusive behaviour occurs. In a context of uncertainty, this negotiating space creates practices and leads to new knowledge. The promotion of well-treatment is presented by some actors as a positive approach supposed to overcome boundaries of well- and mistreatment. In this way, it is a powerful medium to reorganise methods of intervention and professional identities

Full textThe recognition of the right to participate and the right to reparation to the victimes is the most remarkable evolution of these last decades in the national laws and in the International Criminal Justice. The International Criminal Jurisdictions built the victims’ status. Confronted to innovative concepts, the judges have to create precedents and organise the modalities of the victim’s rights. They have to combine the coordination of the legal representation of thousands of victims with the necessity of justice. In view of the first decisions, the place of the victimes is established since the judges grant them the right to participate. However, their interpretation of the rules brings serious limitations to the rights of the victims in the practice. The victims’ participation is not fully applied and their reparation turns out to be exceptionnal. So, the interest of the jurisprudence study resides in the determination of the real status of the victims in the international trial and the importance of the granted rights. Positive evolutions can be made in favor of the recognition of the status of parties in the trial and the effectiveness of the rigths of the victims

Full textIn this thesis called "chinese media in the world". Mrs liao gives us a general description of media in red china and in geographic zones where we may find a chinese diaspora. First of all, mrs liao shows that television has became a massmedia because 800 millions people watch in spite of a real mediocity of its programs. As to the radio, this media is both very common and regionalised and it has been the main factor of the unification of china. Concerning the written press, it has to face the concurence of foreign papers because it has definitively lost. Its image, being a plain propaganda instrument for the c. C. P. Concerning taiwan, hong kong, macao and singapore ad all the chinese media in the other parts of the world, mrs liao writes an analysis which consists a very pragmatic description of quantitative and qualitative factors as : number of titles, number of readers, audience, explained opinions, maintenance of lectorate, radio and television programs. . . At the end of the second part we have the description of the characteristics of marxist media after 1949, and of the consequences of the opening of china to occidental countries in 1978. At least in the third part, are described the various problems the chines media have to face today. At the same time mrs liao insists on the political and cultural specificities of all media in contiental china

Full textThis work consists in studying the linguistic defreezing phenomenon. We establish three typologies of studying cases chosen from the French satirical weekly newspaper "Le Canard enchaîné". The typologies are made in three parts. The first typology is of structuralism, the second one consists in classifying the defreezing cases by transformations, the last one is a typology of three primary functions of predication. In doing so, we propose different linguistic approaches in treating the problematical defreezing phenomenon, which causes problems in teaching, comprehension and computational linguistic treatment in French

Full textThis thesis analyzes what remains constant and what changes in the image of Syria in the French media between the 18th century and the year 2000. This image divides in two: on the one hand, a mythic “imaginary” in literature and, on the other, a mediatized image in the print and visual press. The so-called mediatized image centers on a repressive representation of Syria under French mandate in L'Humanite and Le Figaro in 1939, date at which the sandjak of Alexandrette ceased in Turkey. Then the thesis traces the evolution of this image through the study of the cultural image of Syria in the newspaper Le Monde between 1987 and 1999. The end point of my work on the mediatized image consists of a study of the visual image or Syria on the channel Arte between 1996 and 2000. To conclude this thesis, I study the literary mythic image of Syria and the Arab world in Volney, “Voyage en Syrie et en Egypte,” Maupassant in “Allouma” and Le Clezio in “Poisson d'Or. ”
M'Hamsadji, Takia. "L'image de l'Orient arabe dans les médias américains." Paris 7, 1987. http://www.theses.fr/1987PA070177.
Full textThe aim of this study is to determine the characteristics of the arab stereotype in the american media and its development since the creation of the state of israel in particular. The negative image of the arab world is presented here as the inheritance of orientalism and european colonialism combined with a historical context. The arab-israeli conflict and the oil embargo have brought about a series of "misunderstandings" that strenghened the old fear of islam. The technological advance and the reign of the elctronic era have promoted the propagation of the myth of the orient and enforced an erroneous aspect of the arab civilization and history. Beyond the fixed stage of categorization and prevailing ideology, a new journalism and an awakening of the american public opinion in relation to the american policy towards the middle east have emerged since the 1970, s. This new approach is linked to a better understanding of economic and cultural interdependence between the arab nations and the united states, and to the work of a better organized arab lobby eager to cope with its jewish counterpart. The arab governments and the arab americans have set up a solid organizational structure with thye object of locating and demolishing the arab negative stereotype through an active policy of information on the arab world and an exhaustive use of teh american media. The economic prosperity of the arab orient has allowed a greater pressure to be exerted on the western countries. . .

Full textInvisible group for a long time, the category of "victims" has known a multifaceted process of objectification since the 1980s. This thesis focuses primarily on the social fabric of this category : the promotion of “victim assistance policy” the institutionalization of an academic discipline, the “victimology” ; the invention of a diagnosis (post-traumatic stress disorder) and therapeutic practices (medico-psychological crisis unit). In a second time, this thesis analyses the transformation of the label of “victims” in a claimed public identity. Based on an ethnographic investigation on the mobilization of associative movements and trade unions following a chemical accident, this work examines the role of an unexpected event in collective action. It specifies the role of emotions like grief and bereavement in the recruitment and the elaboration of the collective identity of victims movements. Ultimately, this work analyses the political and strategic uses victims activists make of psychological practices, confession in media reports, complaints and commemorations

The research has been done because of the small knowledge of the architectural vocabulary and the lack of understanding of the significance of architecture by most people. By working around thrée principal types of medias : text supports (books, magaznies and e-books), audiovisuals (the radio, the television and the cinema) and the interactif medias (networks, CD-Roms and interactif points) the presence of the subject "architecture " is analyzed in a vast corpus. A close look at the educational role that the medias should play is done by running an analysis of the sort and the amount of architectural knowledge that is transmitted and the advantages and inconvenients of the informationnal supports used

Full text62 non-interpreter participants and 7 interpreter participants listened to 16 different extracts of interpretations that had been initially broadcast either on TV or on the web. The participants commented and rated these recordings. Non-interpreters’ comments tend to show that the interpretation “works”, i.e. it seems to carry the speaker’s message across and does not constitute an obstacle. Comments tend to focus on form rather than content. Non-interpreters seem to pay attention to quality parameters which already feature in the literature (in particular intonation and fluidity) but also to some (supra)parameters which have rarely been studied so far: the balance between the sound levels of the original speech and its interpretation; the way the speaker is portrayed through the interpretation; and the way emotion in the source speech is conveyed in the interpretation. None of the individual parameters identified in the present study turned out to have a clear-cut, major influence on overall quality assessment. The present thesis studies not only individual quality parameters but also interactions between them. In particular, perceptions of form and content seem to be closely linked, and listeners’ trust seems to be determined by a number of both form- and content-related parameters. Some differences between the two groups of participants emerge. Interpreters seem more sensitive to wording. False errors were flagged up only by non-interpreters. Non-interpreters seem to listen to the speaker’s message first and foremost; their reactions to the interpretation itself tend to come later, if at all

Full textFluctuating along user connections, some content succeeds at capturing the attention of a large amount of users and suddenly becomes trending. Understanding trending content and its dynamics is crucial to the explanation of opinion spreading, and to the design of social marketing strategies. While previous research has mostly focused on trending content and on the network structure of individuals in social media, this work complements these studies by exploring in depth the human factors behind the generation of this content. We build upon this analysis to investigate new personalization tools helping individuals to discover interesting social media content. This work contributes to the literature on the following aspects: an in depth analysis on individuals who create trending content in social media that uncovers their distinguishing characteristics; a novel means to identify trending content by relying on the ability of special individuals who create them; a mechanism to build a recommender system to personalize trending content; and techniques to improve the quality of recommendations beyond the core theme of accuracy. Our studies underline the vital role of special users in the creation of trending content in social media. Thanks to such special users and their ``wisdom'', individuals may discover the trending content distilled to their tastes. Our work brings insights in two main research directions - trending content in social media and recommender systems

Full textThe ease of publishing content on social media sites brings to the Web an ever increasing amount of user generated content captured during, and associated with, real life events. Social media documents shared by users often reflect their personal experience of the event. Hence, an event can be seen as a set of personal and local views, recorded by different users. These event records are likely to exhibit similar facets of the event but also specific aspects. By linking different records of the same event occurrence we can enable rich search and browsing of social media events content. Specifically, linking all the occurrences of the same event would provide a general overview of the event. In this dissertation we present a content-based approach for leveraging the wealth of social media documents available on the Web for event identification and characterization. To match event occurrences in social media, we develop a new visual-based method for retrieving events in huge photocollections, typically in the context of User Generated Content. The main contributions of the thesis are the following : (1) a new visual-based method for retrieving events in photo collections, (2) a scalable and distributed framework for Nearest Neighbors Graph construction for high dimensional data, (3) a collaborative content-based filtering technique for selecting relevant social media documents for a given event

Full textVictims are often judged in part responsible of their suffering. To understand why people judge victims in that way, we have manipulated four factors : the target of judgment of responsability ; possessing asymmetrical or symmetrical extra-legal informations on the two protagonists ; the social connotation of these informations ; the clarity of the dramatic situation in which the two protagonists are implicated. Results show that subjects seems generally to be less clement toward the victim than toward the third. The lenienecy toward a victim appears only when there is no doubt on her total innocence and when the victim gives the impression, by the way of extra-legal informations given, that she merits this favour treatment. These results suggest that the treatement reserved to victims is consequently a complex phenomenon, which is moreover recognised today in legal plan

Full textThe multiculturalism which characterises Lebanese advertising in the written press, is a mixture of Lebanese identity (innately Arabic) with distinctive western influences. This advertising conveys symbols belonging to Lebanese culture as well as those understood worlwide. The usage is mainly French, to a lesser extent English and rather less Arabic. It therefore mirrors the multilingual capability of Lebanese citizens. In eliminating social, cultural and religious differences, it reflects an image solely of an upper class. It displays a westernised style of living as much as a Lebanese one, while showing characters and settings with specific Lebanese reference. Given the particular wording of lebanese advertisements, a dialectic is established between that language and the universal language used for publicity

Full textAssuming on the fact that the analysis of the interactions between social movements and media, however essential to the comprehension of the processes of social problems construction, was until now a peripheral object of interest, this work proposes to deal with these problems starting from the study of the relations between “low resources groups” and TV journalists. On the basis of pluri-methodological and comparative ground investigations, this dissertation proposes to question the forms of mediatic politisation or depolitization of the homeless persons, the illegals immigrants and the unemployed people causes, in the context of the neoliberal and repressive evolutions of the Welfare state. While applying from a critical point of view the framing analysis perspective, this research opens with a range of topics returning as well to the contemporary transformations of the practices of journalism or the militancy as to the effects of media information on the audience

The use of phrasemes is text-sort specific and provides added thematic reference to the relevant topic under discussion. In television journalism, the bilingual, French-German public affairs program Arte-Info is exceptional due to a particular feature of its journalistic format. Individual images are accompanied by to sound and, above all, linguistic tracks. Given this bilingual quality, variuos issues related to the program's inter-lingual format arise (translation and interpreting procedure, source and target language, orientation toward two linguistic communities, etc. ). What effects do these factors have on the production of the linguistic discourse? This study has been organized according to three parameters of analysis: parameter one concerns the specifics of the various sorts of texts; parameter two is addressed to the framing context of the entire discourse; the third parameter deals with the specifics of thematic reference

Full textThis thesis studies the discourses and the strategies of the media when reporting armed conflicts. The comparison between the Israeli-Palistinian and the Northern-Irish conflicts enable us to analyze the nature of the discourses produced by the political actors and by the media, and to foresee their potential evolution with the development of the internet. In situations of armed crisis, State and media logics tend to tighten in the name of a democratic consensus against the authors of the violence. However, the media representations sometimes get loose from the official discourse of the State, in order to keep the freedom of information. This alternative must be rethought with the broadening of the use of the internet by various actors of the conflicts. The specificity of its technical device invites the actors of the conflicts to seize this media in discursive logics, if not new, at least different from those of the traditional media. The hypertextual and multimodal nature of the discourses which the political actors offer on internet thus implies to rethink the discursive strategies, traditionally in work, and the connections between media and actors in the situations of conflict

Full textWe will try all along this thesis to lift the veil on the vague aspects of a complex industry: medias, in a country with an even more complex political and economic environment: China. After defining de concept of media convergence, we will see what are its different forms in the Middle Kingdom in comparison with Western countries. We will explain the reasons why China is naturally taking its own path and not necessarily following the Western models, especially in the media industry. We will then show how the convergence influences one industry in particular: the film industry; how all the links of the value chain from investment to production and distribution are affected by the constant evolution of the new media technologies and how they merge with each other. By reviewing the different laws and other instructions that are supposed to rule the film media industry, but also by analyzing the complex flows between China and the rest of the world that the government tries to control, we will show how much is at stake in this huge market. We will present the main actors of this convergence in China comparing them particularly with the American giant Netflix. How these internet giants transform today’s film industry? This is the question we will try to answer all along this research

Full textSocial media have greatly modified the way we produce, diffuse and consume information, and have become powerful information vectors. The goal of this thesis is to help in the understanding of the information diffusion phenomenon in social media by providing means of modeling and analysis.First, we propose MABED (Mention-Anomaly-Based Event Detection), a statistical method for automatically detecting events that most interest social media users from the stream of messages they publish. In contrast with existing methods, it doesn't only focus on the textual content of messages but also leverages the frequency of social interactions that occur between users. MABED also differs from the literature in that it dynamically estimates the period of time during which each event is discussed rather than assuming a predefined fixed duration for all events. Secondly, we propose T-BASIC (Time-Based ASynchronous Independent Cascades), a probabilistic model based on the network structure underlying social media for predicting information diffusion, more specifically the evolution of the number of users that relay a given piece of information through time. In contrast with similar models that are also based on the network structure, the probability that a piece of information propagate from one user to another isn't fixed but depends on time. We also describe a procedure for inferring the latent parameters of that model, which we formulate as functions of observable characteristics of social media users. Thirdly, we propose SONDY (SOcial Network DYnamics), a free and extensible software that implements state-of-the-art methods for mining data generated by social media, i.e. the messages published by users and the structure of the social network that interconnects them. As opposed to existing academic tools that either focus on analyzing messages or analyzing the network, SONDY permits the joint analysis of these two types of data through the analysis of influence with respect to each detected event. The experiments, conducted on data collected on Twitter, demonstrate the relevance of our proposals and shed light on some properties that give us a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying information diffusion. First, we compare the performance of MABED against those of methods from the literature and find that taking into account the frequency of social interactions between users leads to more accurate event detection and improved robustness in presence of noisy content. We also show that MABED helps with the interpretation of detected events by providing clearer textual description and more precise temporal descriptions. Secondly, we demonstrate the relevancy of the procedure we propose for estimating the pairwise diffusion probabilities on which T-BASIC relies. For that, we illustrate the predictive power of users' characteristics, and compare the performance of the method we propose to estimate the diffusion probabilities against those of state-of-the-art methods. We show the importance of having non-constant diffusion probabilities, which allows incorporating the variation of users' level of receptivity through time into T-BASIC. We also study how -- and in which proportion -- the social, topical and temporal characteristics of users impact information diffusion. Thirdly, we illustrate with various scenarios the usefulness of SONDY, both for non-experts -- thanks to its advanced user interface and adapted visualizations -- and for researchers -- thanks to its application programming interface

Full textIn France, neo-liberalism became dominant in the political sphere in the early 1980s. However, to the defender of neo-liberalism, there is still one last goal : to get public opinion to endorse neo-liberalism as well. The general media, which is able to influence our perceptions and our preferences, can play an important role in that respect. This thesis presents four monographs analyzing the media's discourse on neo-liberalism in the past two decades: the first monographs analyzing the media's discourse on neo-liberalism in the past two decades : the first monograph treats of the media coverage of the Paris Mont Pèlerin meeting in 1984; the second monograph deals with the way the French newspaper "Le Monde" covered the bicentennial of the French Revolution between 1987 and 1989; the third monograph examines the same newspaper's coverage of the opening up of France Telecom's capital in 1997; finally, the last monograph looks at the way "Les Grandes Gueules", a radio show broadcasted on RMC, elaborated a neo-liberalism discourse over the fall of 2006

Full textHaving suffered from an offence, the victim can seek compensation for the damage suffered by pursuing the civil action. French law gives the victim the possibility to act before the criminal judge, even if he or she does not request damages. Hence, the victim becomes a party to the criminal trial. This quality of civil party can be also granted to associative structures yet not victims of the offence. The rights that accompany the status of victim, whether he or she filed for civil action or not, have been considerably strengthened over the last thirty years. The injured party now enjoys expanded opportunities for action at each stage of the proceedings. Furthermore, the legislator modified some procedural rules to adapt the criminal trial to this new party, even if some adjustments are still needed. Nevertheless, the consecration of such a place led to an upheaval in the course of the trial, at the expense of the rights of the other parties. Therefore, for the sake of the criminal trial’s balance, limits must be set in the granting of the status of civil party and in the exercise of the subsequent rights

Full textThe technical progress, the development of the broadcast satellite, the increase of the cross-border channels, and other distribution channels as internet carry the expanding of the international distribution of information. We can note the coming of the globalisation of the media. The main problem is not the increase of information, but to realise and admit that those industries of communication manage the vision of the world and can not be separate of a reflexion about the way they are received. The control of this ideogical machenery made up by the media have a political effect. The resolution of wars and conflicts depends more than never on information and communication control. The media becomes a real actor of the international relation. Our study deals mainly about the gulf war in 1991 which should leads us to a deep relexion on what was previously considered

Full textSince the end of the Cold War, bomb attacks have experienced a steady increase, with very impressive peaks, mainly related to the explosion of crime in the world, but also to the emergence of pronounced international terrorism in several forms. Terrifying pictures of the Bali bombings, in April 2002 (90 dead) ; Spain March 11, 2004 (191 dead and 1,9000 injured) ; Great Britain, July 7, 2005 (56 dead and over 700 injured) ; Shaqbadar, Parkistan, Friday May 13, 2011, against a police training center (80 dead and 140 wounded) and Sana’s in Yemen May 21, 2012 (96 dead and 300 injured) attest to this irrational violence. Today the targets are not only military or institutional, representatives of the rule of law, but also civil, anonymous or symbolic. To fight this threat, a prevention policy is absolutely essential. Establishing a policy of prevention against terrorist threats or the discovery of suspicious vehicles means being able to identify feared events, to manage and analyze the risk and to define the actions to reduce the danger to an acceptable level. This thesis aims to define and establish risk management benchmarks addressing the problems of bomb attacks and the dangers they represent
