Full textA fundamental issue regarding the formulation of a consistent quantum de Sitter space theory is the possible transition to Anti-de Sitter space. Indeed, a semiclassical computation gives a nonzero estimate for the transition probability, while a counting of the degrees of freedom for both spaces shows their incompatilibity, leading to the expectation that the transition is impossible. Through a deeper analysis of quantum tunneling in a semiclassical theory including gravity, one can outline two consistency conditions that could alleviate this seemingly paradoxical disparity. Applying these consistency conditions to the Standard Model shed a different light on the hierarchy problem and the cosmological constant problem, although it does not solve them altogether. Nevertheless, they could play a role in the formulation of a consistent theory of quantum gravity.

Full textWe first give a review of the geometrical techniques (in particular G-structures and Generalized Complex Geometry) that are currently used in the study of supersymmetric N=1 compactifications. Then we focus on the study of type IIB compactifications to four dimensional Anti de Sitter vacua with N=1 supersymmetry. We give the general conditions that supersymmetry imposes on the solutions in particular, the internal manifold must have SU(2)-structure. Then we perform an exhaustive search of such vacua on cosets and group manifold. With some assumptions on the SU(2) torsion classes and constant dilaton and warp factor, we find that such vacua are very rare : two on cosets and five on group manifolds. All of them are required to include intersecting O5 and O7-planes. This also means that there exist no sourceless AdS4 vacua. We then study scales separation on the vacua in order to look give some insights for four dimensional effective theory and found that only two of them admit scales separation

Full textThis thesis aim sat studying vacuum Einstein equations with a space-like Killing vector field. With this symmetry, 3+1 vacuum Einstein equations reduce, in the polarized case, to Einstein equations coupled to a scalar field in 2+ 1 dimensions. In the first part of this thesis, we study the constraint equations in the asymptotically flat case. The constraint equations correspond to computability conditions that the initial data must satisfy. We show the existence of solutions for small data, and we introduce an asymptotic expansion involving quantities which are the 2 dimensional equivalents for the global charges. In the second part, we show the stability of Minkowski space-time with a translation space-like Killing vector field in exponential time with respect to the smallness of initial data. We introduce a family of Ricci flat metrics, and we impose the asymptotic behaviour of our solutions in the exterior of the light cone by picking the right element in the family. This choice allows for the convergence to Minkowski solution in the interior of the light cone. In the last part of this thesis, we study the constraint equations in the compact hyperbolic case. We show the existence of a limit equation associated to the constraint equations

Full textThe title of ontological fullness of the void means that the void is not a nothingness, a mere nothing or a definitive absence but, on the contrary, an assertion in its self-sufficiency of the presence in the pure state. The void is full of the pure presence, better it is identified with it. From ancient atomism to the scientific Revolution including the Renaissance, from Democritus to Newton via Bruno, from Aristotle to Descartes as their most eminent opponents, the void did not stop haunting both the field of the metaphysics and that of the science, that of the experiment as that of the imagination. Having tried to expel it from the physics by means of the notion of ether, the contemporary cosmology rediscovers the essential role of the void in the future and maybe the origin of the universe. Today, it is in the turn of the metaphysics to feel the weight at new expenses of the weight of the void within the framework of the problem of its own. If the void, as pre-eminently place of the exhibition of the presence, throws the fundamental ontology towards its real dimension, the question of the being such as heard it Heidegger takes then all its amplitude, either worldly but cosmological. It is then all the fundamental heideggerian concepts (world, temporality, Dasein) that must be revalued in the alder of this new image of the thought been imperative by the necessity of the void. Does the heideggerianism so indicate an advance or does it mark a regression with regard to the cosmological thoughts of the classic metaphysics? Because it is well very another image of the thought which that of the deconstructions which it is a question of basing, that where the concepts of presence, substance, foundation and even Absolute recover all their present situation
