Abstract:
This thesis presents a novel video database system, called tv-DbMS, which caters for complex and long videos, such as documentaries and educational videos. As compared to relatively structured format videos like news or commercial advertisements, this database system has the capacity to work with long and relatively unstructured videos, by using the thematic indexing model. Thematic indexing is a novel way to track a story in a video. A video contains many themes, which are implicitly related to each other. In order to resolve queries about particular scenes in a video, the scenes are stored h

We extended the idea behind the similarity retrieval of images in the UID matrix approach to the UV-matrix approach. Our proposed approach has two phases. First, we generate a sequence of matrices to represent the spatial relation between objects, sizes and locations of objects for a video. Second, based on these matrices, similarity retrieval can be performed by si

The changes of video objects in spatial and temporal dimension are quite useful to measure two videos. In this thesis, we propose a new method to measure the similarity (dissimilarity) between two videos by spatio-temporal relationships between objects. The new method basically includes two phases. One is to split a video into several intervals of video and make use of the finding maximal similar object-set algorithm to compute the maximal similar object-sets as the simil

Our major concern dealing with widely used video application is how to quickly retrieve the information we required contained in it. Yet, applying database to manage is a good idea. Video can be viewed as a combination of various objects that have mutual influence among each other. Moreover, object method is more acceptable by human thinking mode. Thus, we propose an object model method constructed on database. Based on the char
