Full textKultura is a journal of the polish emigration which has acted as mediator between slavic and western literatures since the end of world war ii. The present study analyses the journal's editorial activities froml947 --year of its foundation-- up to 1970 as a procedure to pass on the western thought to the eastern world and to inform the west of the actual situation in poland, ukraine, russia and other european countries under the soviet regime, inspite of censorship. A monthly, kultura stemms from the institut litteraire, a publishing house founded in 1946, translating and publishing the unabridged versions of works by authors censured under the soviet rule. As a center of intense political activity, kultura has been a mediator between the free and the totalitarian thought. Furthermore, kultura's journalists have suggested bright and original solutions to problems resulting from the yalta conference. Kultura is foremost a united team even if its correspondants are spread about the entire world. An invisible bond ties journalists, authors, poets and translators around jerzy giedroyc, its founder, who knew how to surround himself with collaborators having diverse personalities and yet sharing a common concern : true information and free circulation of literature. As jerzy giedroyc has devoted his life to kultura, it is widely considered to be his undertaking

Full textHighly criticized or suspected of the worst by some, admired and acknowledged by others, too often neglected, charles maurras is displayed here, among the most outstanding minds of this century. Thanks to the publication of a correspondence that edifies as much by the content of the letters as by the quality of their authors, we can situate or put back in his context this intricate and extraordinary rich personality. Some friedship or other - gide, poincare, herriot, malraux - was already well-known. People would guess it. They would sense something or speak about it. They would evoke it or envisage it. Nevertheless, we were short of evidence and stuck on rumours, vague echoes of the collective memory. Who could have thought this correspondence were so dense ? and if some had an idea about it, illustrations were quite lifeless. In this thesis, through maurras, we have socialists and liberals gathered, as well as writers and critics, historians and politicians, people belonging to universities and academies. They all witnessed the indisputable influence and the powerful intellectual attraction this free man exerted on the world of politics, literature and arts. The history of sources testifies to it

Full textThis doctoral dissertation offers a presentation of the german weekly press in the f. R. G. And the g. D. R. After the second world war. After a historical survey, which takes into account the foundation nof die zeit, rheinischer merkur, deutsches allgemeine sonntagsblatt, and wochenpost among others, the phenomenon of the concentration of the press in both systems is analysed. After that, this work considers the role of the press during the political events in 1989-1990, as spectator and actor, observatory and laboratory in the context of the changing political and economical structures. The development of the restructuring of the german press, as well as the activity of the "treuhand", and the creation of the weekly papers die andere, freitag, die woche, are examined. Furtheron it focusses on the wochenpost (east) which represents a unique case within the german weekly press in its effort to reach the readers in west - and east germany at the same time and provides a comparison between the articles of die zeit and those of the wochenpost. It shows two opposite analysis of the events which took place during autumn 1989. Further, it examines the modification in the wochenpost before the elections of the people's chamber in g. D. R. On 18 th of march 1990 in order to prove that the development of this weekly newspaper between 1990 and 1997 reflects the trends that influenced the whole contemporary weekly press at that time : despite the aim of unification, the german press market remains divided. Mationgo, MBoungou Sébastien. "L'actualité de l'utopie en Afrique noire contemporaine." Paris 1, 1993. http://www.theses.fr/1993PA010724.
Full textThis thesis attempts to throw a positive and constructive light on the singularity of the utopian discourse of contempor black africa from 1930 to 1990, and, at the same time, on the originality of the specific fundamental concepts of this d and the influence of the schools of knowledge which mark its invention. The domain of investigation is limited to that o contemporary, french-speaking black africa as expressed through the medium of the books which are the foundation of the classical spirit of african intellectual life and in which its heritage is woven. The utopia discussed here is expressed creative and joyous sense of disobedience. By drawing on the blochian concept of the "non-encore-etre" this thesis attem an analysis of the dynamism of this utopia and the multiple forms of hope which it offers. This task of critical re-writ opens an investigation of the tragic interiority of contemporary africa : the existential question which underlies the t concerns the liberation of the african utopia, which we have described as a creative and joyous sense of disobedience, f dogmatic and metaphysical captivity in the logic of this tragic interiority. The stakes which are thus defined, in the f common identity which is still to be rebuilt, are nothing less than the possibility of constructing an intellectual comm contemporary africa. The very existence of this emergent community puts into a crisis of legitimacy the quasi-metaphysic question of the possibility of an african identity, and offers itself, through the modality of an enlightened utopia, as resumption of the historical initiative, now newly possible, of a serene conception of alterity. Hence the gnoseological ethico-existential access to the other of ourselves. Here is revealed the illegitimacy of the old, obscure alterity whic based on the will to power and on the tragic interiority which linked europe and africa. The chains which fall here are the actions of ethnographic gnosis, in general, and, more specifically, of the dogmatic and metaphysical confrontations anthropologico-cultural truths. The hope which is offered in this thesis concerns the sketch of a joyous philosophy whic

Full textMy doctoral dissertation studies the problem of cosmopolitanism in French literature in the years 1890-1950 by relating it to the various manners of conceiving the unity and the diversity of humanity at the time. Cosmopolitanism was often linked to the notion of decadence, many authors holding it responsible for cultural uniformization and for the decline of national identities. To many writers of the period, insisting on diversity by constructing strong differences between nations was a way of criticizing modernity, which they deemed both absurd and chaotic. However, the relationship between nationalism and cosmopolitanism was far more complex and the latter often became a component of patriotic discourses. Indeed, French identity was frequently built on the theme of unity within diversity. This ideological construction was aimed at explaining France’s alleged extraordinary openness to the world, that is to say France’s unique ability to welcome and assimilate foreign influences without losing its own cultural personality. Even those who advocated internationalist or universalistic ideologies also emphasized the importance of cultural diversity. In many attempts to reorganize the world, such as Marguerite Yourcenar’s Mémoires d’Hadrien, published in 1951, cultural differences were used and exploited rather than called into question

Full textThe aim of the following doctoral dissertation is the attempt to answer the question which of the elements of the French culture found their place in the Polish salon reality in the middle of the 18th century. The question was also posed to what extent we are dealing with their adoption, and to what extent with reception. From such a perspective, the figure of princess Barbara Sanguszkowa is depicted as well as her salon, which was formed under the influence of France. The way the princess became the organizer of social life is seen from the point of view of the Polish woman in modem society and against the background of woman's history in French salons. The fundamental issue of this dissertation seems to be Barbara Sanguszkowa's gradual emancipation, and the woman becoming a bond that held together the world of salons in France and Roland. It has been also necessary to present the position of the French woman and the Polish woman closer in the family and social life. In the case of France, the focus has been place on the active participation in salons. The advent of the institution of social life in Roland has been outlined. To show a wider and more complex picture, the engagement of the modern woman in religious, cultural, political and agricultural life has been discussed. The princess Sanguszkowa courageously made the effort to became noticed by fulfilling the duties undertaken by thé organizers of Parisian salon meetings. The analysis of source materials allows to state how important the role of the members of Barbara Sanguszkowa's environment was in the process of reception that foreign culture in Roland in the middle of the 18th century
