Full textPopulation ageing and social changes, due to urbanization and modernization of China, lead to a pressing need of services and facilities for the elderly. The government must address this situation by developing an elder care system answering the needs of the country. Late government involvement leads to the need for major reforms, and the establishment of a legislative framework to redirect the development that took the already existing elder care system, in order to put it in line with the needs of the population. This thesis has been set up in parallel with the launch of ambitious political goals for an overhaul of the Chinese elder care system. This has led to a need to emphasize fieldwork research. The main fieldwork study is on the Changping district of Beijing Municipality. It analyzes how policymakers take decisions regarding the development of services and facilities for the elderly, through a research project on this theme, realized by a team of researchers working for the government, team in which I was integrated. This allows me to study the relationship of the local government with researchers, with the directors of senior care institutions, and with the municipal government. Through this approach, I aim to reveal the decision making process regarding the development of the elder care system, and explain what phenomena disrupt the setup of functional solutions, however well identified by the central government

Full textThe research mainly analyses the relationship between political and religious forms of authority among the hani, one of major ethnic minorities of south-china. It focuses on the fact that the religious system and the traditional way of legitimating authority, primarily based on the concept of "virtue", and a capacity to act on the supernatural world (especially the gods of the "soil" or "eath"), represent a coherent structure that can be compared to the frame of reference underlying the conception of legitimate power in ancient china. The comparative study thus reveals that a very ancient and widespread mode of legitimacy, based ont he submission of the "earth-god", or "god of the soil", seems to play a key role in various processes of political centralization, leading to the formation of state. Historical documents, taken in different parts of asia, further demonstrate that this process is not restricted to the chinese world, and that everywhere deliberate manipulations of such concepts were essential for the representatives of the central power to be accepted by the subjugated peoples as their legitimate rulers

Full textChanges in demand are of public interest because of their effect on consumer health and the profitability of the industry. While the Canadian population ages, we observe a consistent downward trend in per capita milk consumption. This study investigates differences in the behav-iour of different profiles of Canadian households in terms of their purchases of dairy products. A two–stage econometric procedure was implemented on subsamples of a dataset pooling three food expenditure surveys. In the first stage, the probability of purchase is estimated to account for the relatively high frequency of zero purchases for some of the ten goods. In the second stage, a demand system allowing for quadratic expenditure effects is estimated. The findings indicate that demand elasticities tend to be higher for households headed by a person between 35 and 64 years old and when household size increases. Relative to other goods, low-fat milk has a higher probability of purchase and its demand is price and expenditure elastic. Generally, price and income elasticity patterns across goods are quite robust across household profiles differing in terms of the age of the head, size, and income. Keywords: dairy products, household demand, QUAIDS, elasticities

Attané, Isabelle. "Resistance a la politique de limitation des naissances en milieu rural chinois depuis le debut des annees 1980." Paris, EHESS, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1998EHES0065.
Full textWith nearly 860 million people, china's rural population represents more than 70 per cent of the total population of the country. But the rural society remains traditionnal and meets slow social and economical changes. That is one of the reasons why family planning policy encounters great resistance among the rural population. This study focuses on the gap existing between marriage and fertility behaviours and birth limitation policy prescriptions in rural china since the eighties. But major disparities in demographic behaviours remain between the provinces. Provincial variations in demographic transition stages are first described. Then we focus on levels of resistance to family planning in each province (marriage before legal age, fertility higher than official prescriptions, high sex-ratio at birth. . . ). Finally, we highlight the social, economical and cultural factors influencing resistance to family planning policy

Full textThe result of this these is the realisation of a graph from the variations of the population of the Jiangxi province, from the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, which shows a slow growth at the 19th century, and also an interaction between the natural catastrophes and the human catastrophes in the beginning of the 20th century. The main point of this study proposes a new method of analysing the demography variations : the distinction of the different factors of the variations, the natural catastrophes, the human catastrophes and other factors. First, the macro-historical method was based on one province with the unchanged variation of population. And then, one method of classification by degree is used for distinguishing the differences of gravity from the natural and human catastrophes, with a mathematical modele in order to find the relation between the cause and mortality

Full textActually, the executive functions have got an increased central role in the models of cognition (system attentionnel of supervision; Norman and Shallice, 1980 or central executive of the working memory ; Baddeley, 1986). The efficacity of these high level cognitive processes, whose principal function is the adaptation to the novelty, classically reserved for the frontal lobes (Stuss, 1992), decreases with the age. The performance evaluation to 11 executive tasks of a sample of 94 old people from 45 to 98 years confirms the deterioration of the executive performances with the age, and shows a modest stability of those between the two occasions of measurement. Although empirically different, the executive processes of planning, cognitive inhibition, cognitive flexibility are correlated, and in relation to general intellectual efficiency. We defend the idea of a de-differentiation of the cognitive processes at the old people (Li, 2002). The negative effect of the age on the efficacity of a general cognitive system which one would measure various components would be mitigated by a significant level of schooling
