Abstract:
Valencia, at the beginning of 1930, was a city full of contrasts with a great cultural and leisure offer. There was a Valencian flamenco colony, a business interest in flamenco shows. The flamenquismo rooted in the city felt different to the Andalusian flamenco as art and social claim (although there was the internal debate between pure and imported styles). The creation of Café Singer Villa Rosa and the brief stay there of the Borrull brothers (1931-1934) was very significant. The final objective is to rescue that forgotten Flamenco in Valencia, to discover the Valencian flamenco colony and to focus the interest in the Café of the Borrull brothers, and especially in Concha Borrull, its Captain.

SummaryChristianity spread out in Pannonia, too, and in the 3rd century there are proofs of its existence in the southern part of both Pannonias. Christianity became stronger in consequence of placing the officium praesidis of Valeria to Sopianae at the end of the 3rd century. The flourishing of ancient Christianity in Sopianae and in the surrounding villas was in the second half of the 4th century. The bronze casket mounts recently found in Bakonya support this historical reconstruction and offer new evidence for the presence of rich Christians in that era.

Kwiatkowski, Cezary. "Evaluation of yield quality and weed infestation of common valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) in dependence on weed control method and forecrop." Acta Agrobotanica 63, no. 2 (2012): 179–88. http://dx.doi.org/10.5586/aa.2010.046.

Abstract:
A field experiment involving the cultivation of common valerian was conducted on loess soil in Abramów (Lublin region) in the period 2007-2009. Qualitative parameters of herbal raw material obtained from this plant as well as in-crop weed infestation were evaluated depending on the protection method and forecrop. Hand-weeded plots, in which a hand hoe was used, were the control. In the other treatments, weeds were controlled using various herbicides and a mechanical implement (brush weeder). Potato and winter wheat + field pea cover crop were the forecrops for common valerian crops. A hypothesis was made that the use of a brush weeder and herbicides not registered for application in valerian crops would have a positive effect on this plant's productivity and weed infestation in its crops. It was also assumed that the introduction of a cover crop would allow the elimination of differences in the forecrop value of the crop stands in question. The best quantitative and qualitative parameters of common valerian raw material as well as the largest reduction of incrop weed infestation were recorded after the application of the herbicides which were not type approved. The use of the brush weeder in the interrows also had a beneficial effect on productivity of the plant in question, but secondary weed infestation at the end of the growing season of common valerian turned out to be its disadvantage. Traditional crop protection methods used in common valerian crops were less effective in weed infestation reduction and they resulted in lower plant productivity and raw material quality. Potato proved to be a better forecrop for common valerian than winter wheat + field pea; however, this positive effect was not confirmed statistically. The following annual weeds: Chenopodium album, Galinsoga parviflora, Stellaria media, were predominant in the common valerian crop. Traditional weed control methods resulted in the dominance of some dicotyledonous weeds, such as Viola arvensis, Galium aparine, Capsella bursa-pastoris.

Abstract:
Abstra ct The Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences of Madrid awarded the work titled Aves de España. (Un dato más), submitted it to public tender in 1882. The report was written by José Arévalo Baca, the 19th century Spanish ornithologist most recognized on a European scale and Head Professor at the University of Valencia since 1877. During the review process, the Natural Sciences Section of the Academy, referee of the Memory, indicated that the author had used the unpublished works of two professors from Malaga and Valencia, both deceased, without citing their names: Higinio Aragoncillo del Villar y Rafael Cisternas Fontseré. These criticisms were refuted by Arévalo with arguments and unpublished data that show here. However, in spite of his defense, Arévalo’s ornithological memory published in (1887) was, in several occasions willfully ignored. Likewise, we analyze stance of members of the 19th century scientific collective towards Arévalo’s monograph and Arévalo himself. We finish our study with a current, assessment of the Arévalo’s work.

Abstract:
In summer 2012 a luxuriosus roman villa, dated to augustean age, is been discovered during an archeological escavation in Ciampino (Rome). A group of marble statues, showing the Niobids, is finded into the natatio pool. During the XIX century, in the same place, a lead pipe mentioning Valerius Messalla was discovered; this finding suggested that the villa was owned by this powerful senatorial gens. The research area, called Muro/Muri dei Francesi, is located beyond the last slope of Alban Hills in their congiuction point with Campagna Romana plan, in Rome's South-East suburbium. The plan, from the geo-morphological point of view, is crossed by a several natural ditches and a low straight ridge who link the Alban Hills to Tiber river valley: therefore – also tanks to the development of ancient roads network – this area well be one of most populated by roman aristocracy villas. The Ciampino's Niobids are similars to Florence Uffizi Museum Group, but different for the presence of some unknown characters and for iconographic rendering of details. This offer new possibilities for the knowledge and interpetation of the first Niobides group of which we dispose of an archaeological data set. The two research approaches are been: the collection and critical analysis of archives documents dated at XIX century and, as regards fieldwork research, the stratigraphic analysis of the available masonry structures (excavated for less than 40%), with the complementary realisation of detailed relief and graphic documentation. At last, the study and documentation of the archaeological materials coming from the excavation, which allowed, with sufficient tolerance, the chronology of the site to be determined

Abstract:
This work touch a subject that we can observe in all venezuela. It has already made the center of many interpretations and explanations but it hasn't stop it to continues its developements. The housing problem that the population of the urban zones knows in venezuela is increasing. At present this lack of lodgement can be estimated to 900 or 950 thousands. It means that the third of the population is concerned. The more representative expression of this problem, the barrios and the ranchos, has also be developed in the principals towns of the country. The diverse solutions planted by the society to solue this dificulty depend on the sectors charged to do it. First the official sector just see a lack of housing or adapted houses. The answer would be just to provide people one. It's what we call the housive solution. Second, the private sector just see it as a financial problem but not a social one. For this sector, to build houses represents an economic sector of investisment and for a production of rapid ans accelerated capital. Two basic views have guided this work ; the first view made me consider that the housing problem is more than just a lack of habitat or an inadapted one. And if it's, of course, necessary to start with chifres permetting to quantify this problem, we have also to interest with some facteurs : the demanding population nature, production proposed, consummation capacity, social space, etc. The second view is the methodologic one, taking as a conductor line the population having this kind of problem and more precisely the population of the barrios, i based myself on : epoch, space and a certain number of variables (industrialization, urbanism, housing)

In this study we sought to understand the epidemic of cholera morbus in the village of Maranguape in 1862 and how this was understood by the individuals that comprised the medical and religious knowledge and the political uses that the epidemic has assumed from the look of liberal parties and conservative. We focus our attention on the actions of doctors who took part in the commission of public relief, the two priests who worked in the village during the illness and the action of public administrators. We aim to understand the disease and its meaning from a broader reading than was the village of Maranguape in 1862, the medical theories that guided and the answers given by religion. To bring out such a venture, we use varied character documents such as reports of the provincial president, letters sent by the commissioned doctors, letters of the priests and members of the chamber of the village, provincial laws, newspapers and chronicles.

Trabajo final integrador.

In the second half of the 16th century, in the garden of the Medicean villa of Pratolino the sculptor Valerio Cioli created, among other groups, the Villano con la falce, which represented a peasant in the act of sawing the reeds in a marshy lake where there was a salamander that spurted water from its mouth. The salamander is now lost while the Villano has been identified so far by critics with the statue of the so-called Mietitore attributed to Cioli and now in the Boboli garden deposits. In the 1990s, during restorations at Pratolino, a stone fragment of a male statue was found: through a careful analysis of the documentary and figurative sources as well as a close comparison with other works certainly by Cioli, this paper aims to recognize the fragment as the Villano con la falce.

Abstract:
This chapter surveys the literary representation of Ischia’s volcano, Inarime, which Valerius Flaccus pairs in his Argonautica with Mount Vesuvius in a striking simile describing the violence of battle at Cyzicus (V. Fl. 3.208–9). The imagery of gigantomachy infiltrates Inarime’s diverse reappearances in all three Flavian epics, accentuating a contrast with Statius’ description of the tranquil view of Ischia across the Bay of Naples from the villa of Pollius Felix (Silv. 2.2.75), which in turn provides a glimpse of pastoral serenity likely to inspire in Statius’ Flavian and modern reader-audiences’ reflections on Inarime’s well-hidden (but all too apparent) dangers.

Abstract:
Poliorcetics, architectural morphology and construction techniques at Tossal de la Vila, a fortified enclosure from the Emirate period in the northernmost end of Šarq al-AndalusThis work focuses on the first results from the systematic excavation of the Tossal de la Vila (Serra d’en Galceran, Castelló) archaeological site. This is, a hillfort build during the Emirate of al-Andalus in the intersection between the territories of Tortosa, Valencia and the Iberian System mountain ranges. Our case study is framed within the historiographic discussion on the subject of rocky and castellated settlements in this area set forth thirty years ago by André Bazzana. A debate that was largely enriched by several works pending the last years on the subject of hilly occupations between Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages. In that direction, we analyse here the architectural questions that have been raised by the recent archaeological works at the site. Specifically, we will try to systematise the different defensive solutions adopted on the design of the fort, as well as the diverse construction techniques used along the fortbuilding process.
