Full textThe subject of this research is to clarify the conditions of appearance and of development of the recommendations related to the sunlighting in the architectural and urban theories appeared in France during the hygienist period. An analysis related to more than one hundred of publications and projects of about fifty authors of various disciplines (architects, doctors, engineers). This corpus highlights the range of the recommendations of the various authors and the multiple related factors. The Work is divided in two parts. The first part presents the answers brought by the architects and town planners to the hygienists requirements making of the sun a powerful factor of fight against the urban epidemics. The analysis highlights four types of solar recommendations related to the orientation of the buildings and the streets, optimal buildings outline, buildings form, and solar devices. In a second stage, the thesis proposes a detailed study of four emblematic theories of the sunlighting control during this period: the “heliotermics axis” (axe héliothermique) of A. Augustin Rey, the Toothed buildings developed by Le Corbusier in “La ville radieuse”, the Setback buildings of H. Sauvage, and the “luminous ceiling” principle (plafond lumineux) presented by A. Augustin-Rey. Each example is discussed by connecting the authors arguments and the results obtained with the tools of the CERMA laboratory

Elias, Alissar. "Territoires et conditions de vie : santé des femmes et des enfants dans trois quartiers squattés de la ville d’El-Mina, Liban-Nord." Thesis, Paris Est, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PEST1175.
Full textHay El-Tanak, Haouch and El-Masaken El-Chaabiyah are three squatter settlements located in El-Mina city, Northern Lebanon and dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. This costal city, taking a peninsular form, is part of Al-Fayhaa Federation of Municipalities headed by Tripoli municipality. Squatter territories targeted in this study include settlements illicitly built on private lands and buildings occupied by households with no tenure rights. Populations residing in these territories suffer from nature and anthropogenic hazards which criticality varies in each settlement. Despite these vulnerabilities, upgrading projects of living conditions remain very rare. This precarious situation aroused many questions about the inhabitants' health profile. Therefore, the current research is realized on a punctual small scale of these settlements favoring the exploration of women's health profile during « perinatal » phase and children's health status until the age of five. Away from internal characteristics of informal settlements, does the external geographic context play a role in the health status of these populations? Is there any impact of the health care system of the city and what are the other urban actors influencing the actual health status of the inhabitants of squatter settlements? Consequently, a combination of statistical and spatial analyses methods are adopted in order to address the health profile of women and children. The hypothesis raised in this study was verified in bringing out a partial resilience situation of the inhabitants of the squatter settlements in spite of the existing hazards. Over time, the populations targeted could overcome the danger by acquiring protective behaviors. Therefore, during the “perinatal” phase a big proportion of women interviewed declared a regular monitoring of their pregnancy the fact that decreased the complications like premature births, complicated delivery, and early neonatal mortality. In fact, women living in these settlements prioritize the quality of care and specialized health centers during the “perinatal” period. These practices are supported by the multiple health offers and the financial aid existing in the cities of Tripoli and El-Mina. Many urban actors participate in facilitating the accessibility to health care including dispensaries, hospitals, doctors, non-governmental organizations, charity religious and political associations. However, for children under five, results showed that diarrhea, cough and fever infections marked high prevalence. Diarrhea accompanied with fever is correlated to the quality of water consumed in the three squatter settlements. In addition, this category of age suffers from delays in the immunization calendar. In fact, mothers met in these settlements search for the less expensive offer when it comes for their children's health care. Disparities between the settlements' urban form and levels of vulnerability didn't lead to significant statistical differences in the prevalence of health indicators amongst their inhabitants. As well, this study witnesses an added-value brought by geography in the evaluation of marginalized populations' health. The exploration of the role of urban actors facilitating the health care use helped in the explanation of declared health profile. Nevertheless, this approach remains qualitative and recommends the development of a geocoded and standardized information system managed by the ministry of public health in all the health care centers operating in Lebanon

Full textBaback and Sanghé are two villages in the rural community (CR) of Notto-Joobaas located in the south of the department of Thies. While Fandène and Keur-Moussa main village of CR are situated respectively the north and north-west department of Thies. These four villages founded before the end of nineteenth century are occupied by different ethnic populations. They benefit from significant physical potential that allow the development of socio -economic activities. Moreover, adverse weather conditions, the financial imbalance, the implementation of structural adjustment policies and the devaluation of the CFA franc resulted in precarious living conditions of the Senegalese people, especially in rural areas. Poor economic performance has affected many sectors, including the health of populations. Women and children are the most vulnerable because they are the most marginalized and poorest of society. They face persistent poverty. Women are more prone to morbidity and mortality during pregnancy and childbirth. With the introduction of the missionaries in the villages of our study from the 60s, many health facilities were put in place and effectively contribute to the management of maternal and child health. These structures support the monitoring of pregnancies by prenatal visits, vaccinations and childbirth. Children are given special attention through vaccinations, weighing and nutrition programmes in the centers for mother and child care, from birth to school age (five to six years). Maternal, infant and child mortality has declined significantly in recent years, but they are still quite high in Senegal. The maternal mortality rate fell from 510/100 000 live births in 1992 to 401/100 000 live births in 2005. The rate of child mortality, it dropped from 150 in 1997 to 121 ‰ in 2005. The infant mortality from 70,1 ‰ in 1997 to 61 ‰ in 2005. Health stations are also facing financial difficulties. Thus, the free health care that prevailed in the services of the missionaries gave way to cost recovery by the financial participation of the beneficiaries. The Association of Private Catholic health stations in Senegal (APSPCS) coordinates activities in matters of health posts to better meet the needs of the population health especially in rural areas

Full textThis study defines local authority initiatives in public health and hygiene in a french provincial city. It shows the use of nascent administrative technology by the town hall, which employed increasing financial means and equiped itself with functionnal, structured services, led by competent civil servants. Thus the city of bordeaux adopted and applied the hygienic sanitation themes born of the "pasteur revolution" and spread by the local hygienist movement, guided by several highly actives personalities. Moreover, municipal activity was assisted by a permanent political consensus and an absence of partisan divisions, since the elected council took over the legacy of former assemblies. During the 1880's and 1890's, the city installed a modern system of hygienic sanitation management, directed first of all at sanitation improvement and then at disease prevention. Thus, successfully and discreetly, the biological safety of the local population was taken care of, a testimony to the vigour of french municipalism, which took on new responsabilities as early as the end of the nineteenth century

Full textThe objective of this study is to understand how health and work are interwoven in employees' social experience, in the context of the casualisation of work and of changes in work organisation. Three levels of enquiry were used to investigate various aspects of the social construction of the links between health, work and casualisation. 50 telephone interviews with occupational doctors were carried out in order to analyze their representations and practices, and to recruit 200 employees who have answered a questionnaire. The statistical enquiry shows the variety of both health and work experiences. Finally, 30 detailed interviews with employees were carried out in order to cross examine their experiences of work and health. The biographical approach makes it possible to understand how the interweaving between work and health is perceived and reconstructed by the employees at different moments in the course of their lives
