Bush inbreds have been developed from crosses between `La Primera', `La Segunda', and `Seminole' with `Bush Butternut'. Abstract Motion retargeting aims at transferring a given motion from a source character to a target one. The task becomes increasingly challenging as the differences between the body shape and skeletal structure of input and target characters increase. We present a novel approach for motion retargeting between skeletons whose goal is to transfer the motion from a source skeleton to a target one in a different format. Our approach works when the two skeletons differ in scale, bone length, and number of joints. Surpassing previous approaches, our method can also retarget between skeletons that differ in hierarchy and topology, such as retargeting between animals and humans. We train our method as a transformer using a random masking strategy both in time and space, aiming at reconstructing the joints of the masked input skeleton to obtain a deep representation of the motion. At testing time, our proposal can retarget the input motion to different skeletons, reconstructing the disparities between the source and the target. Our method outperforms state-of-the-art results on the Mixamo dataset, which features a high variance between skeleton formats. Moreover, we show how our approach can effectively generalize to different domains by transferring between human motion and quadrupeds, and vice-versa. Abstract Investigations of brewers yeast DNA have shown that different types of genetic changes occur in the genomes. Such genetic changes might give rise to instabilities and, therefore, affect the performance of the brewing yeast during fermentation. Some of the genetic changes have been monitored by electrophoretic karyotyping and by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) studies. Differences in chromosome lengths and number of different types of chromosomes Vin brewers yeast have been studied in order to find a plausible model/explanation for such changes. Changes in number of chromosomes V were monitored by the RFLP patterns of various URA3 alleles.

Both as regards locality and viewpoint, diverse congregations were represented. Shortly after opening, the conference proceeded to elect officers, and Wise was chosen president; Elkan Cohn, his successor at Albany, vice-president; and Max Lilienthal, his associate in Cincinnati, secretary. Abstract After being elected vice president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson was elected president of the American Philosophical Society, an office aligning him with some of the greatest scientific minds in early America. Benjamin Franklin had served as president of the Society until his death in 1790. David Rittenhouse had succeeded him and served until his death in 1796. Accepting the office and the honor, Jefferson expressed hope not only for what the Society could contribute toward the advancement of science, but also for what science could contribute toward the advancement of mankind: “I feel no qualification for this distinguished post but a sincere zeal for all the objects of our institution, and an ardent desire to see knowledge so disseminated through the mass of mankind that it may at length reach even the extremes of society, beggars and kings.” As he had many times before, Jefferson emphasized the direct relation between science and liberty. Freedom from tyranny brings opportunities for scientific inquiry; scientific advances reinforce and extend freedom. Given his ideas about how science could contribute to the advancement of mankind, Thomas Jefferson made an ideal choice to lead the American Philosophical Society into the next century.

This chapter describes a part of autonomous driving of work vehicles. This type of autonomous driving consists of work sensing and mobility control. Particularly, this chapter focuses on autonomous work sensing and mobility control of a commercial electric robotic lawn mower, and proposes an AI-based approach for work vehicles such as a robotic lawn mower. These two functions, work sensing and mobililty control, have a close correlation. In terms of efficiency, the traveling speed of a lawn mower, for example, should be reduced when the workload is high, and vice versa. At the same time, it is important to conserve the battery that is used for both work execution and mobility. Based on these requirements, this chapter is focused on developing an estimation system for estimating lawn grass lengths or ground conditions in a robotic lawn mower. To this end, two AI algorithms, namely, random forest (RF) and shallow neural network (SNN), are developed and evaluated on observation data obtained by a fusion of ten types of sensor data. The RF algorithm evaluated on data from the fusion of sensors achieved 92.3% correct estimation ratio in several experiments on real-world lawn grass areas, while the SNN achieved 95.0%. Furthermore, the accuracy of the SNN is 94.0% in experiments where sensor data are continuously obtained while the robotic lawn mower is operating. Presently, the proposed estimation system is being developed by integrating two motor control systems into a robotic lawn mower, one for lawn grass cutting and the other for the robot’s mobility.
