Abstract:
Abstract European writer of Romanian origin, Vintila Horia (1915-1992) - Goncourt Prize in 1960 for the novel Dieu est né enexil - was a truly awakened consciousness of his time. Wherever he was - in Bucharest or Florence, Buenos Aires or Paris, Rome or Madrid - this “polyglot nomad” (Jean-François-Malherbe) never left the unyielding values of the spirit and of knowledge. His work of literary epistemology, hisnovelistic creation - fed by exile, love and by the divine -, as well as the Journal d’un paysan du Danube (1966), stand as testimony. Focal point of my approach, this text sheds light on the metaphysical realm of a way of thinking in which the undivided man (a double-faced reality: big infinity /small infinity) and the man to come are one and the same. Since for the exiled VintilaHoria,”the peasant from the Danube” is “celui dans lequel ce qui fut rencontre celui qui sera, dans un espace-temps non-euclidien”, and his journal emphasizes this “rediscovery”, in spite of the dark times of history; an encounter in, through and beyond the broken grounds of science, art and philosophy, but nevertheless, deeply anchored in philosophy, art and science. Apparently, rediscovery and isolation of the same proportion; in fact, we are talking about an anagnorisis: the inner man and the outer man have never separated, despite the “microbial fauna of Kali Yuga” (“la faunemicrobienne du Kali Yuga”). “Nomade polyglotte” through his evolution, a result of flawless reflexive stability, Vintila Horia proves himself to be, at the same time, animmobile nomad; “the peasant from the Danube” is the plenary expression of this unusual simultaneity.

Abstract:
Abstract The Romanian-born European writer Vintilă Horia - whose birth centenary is celebrated this year - was a genuine searcher of truth. His entire work pleads for transgressive-integrating knowledge, in opposition to binary logic and scientism; it is the privileged space of articulation between cognition, creation and gnosis, between the apophatism of science, mystic apofatism and artistic apofatism. Although much less known than the trilogy of exile - Dieu est né en exil (1960), Le chevalier de la résignation (1961) and ¡Perseguid a Boecio! (1983) - the small-sized novel Le voyage à San Marcos (1972) acts as an exemplary attestation to this pompous conjunction. The current article focuses especially on the text’s trans-temporal valence

Abstract:
The main purpose of this research is to present the developed VINTRA system, a comprehensive solution to a fully developed public transit system in Lithuania, and it is very important in encouraging travelers to use public transport. VINTRA is not simply a trip planner; it is capable of planning multimodal public transport trips, using different parameters in public transport trip planning. This system has the functionality to create and edit public transport route trajectories and to edit and calculate timetables according to the distance between stops. This research presents the public transport trip planning parameters procedure of the calculated walking route directions, integrated with the calculation results of public transit routes, as well as combining visualization in digital maps. This paper also discusses how route-planning systems could perform data exchange based on General Transit Feed Specification and how assessment of the public transport trip planning results, compared to the VINTRA system created with Google, was performed.

Abstract:
The challenge raised by exile’s literature nowadays is not only to become familiar with it. Our main purpose should be now to synchronize this literature, impressive in size, with the artistic creation from Romania, briefly to find a common literary canon. The writers subjected to analyze -Vintilă Horia, Constantin Virgil Gheorghiu and L. M. Arcade – created their literary work based on the notion of exile. The authors applied this notion to other domains and came to the conclusion that it represents the leading feature of 20th century man. One of the main purposes of this thesis is to find common elements in the literary work of three Romanian writers (Horia, Vintila and Arcade) for whom the feeling of alienation from their own country represents a sign of tragic existence; my other goal aims to establish a connection between the evolution of the literature written abroad and the one subjected to the rigors of the communist regime, considering the criterion of the creation period

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to analyze the connection between exile, literarycreation and the languages used by Vintila Horia in his works. The methodology of thepresent study – based on the comparison of several famous exile cases, the thematic andpsychoanalytic analysis of the novels, the application of the new theories about the writer as acharacter to Horia’s work – indicates the interdisciplinary and plural nature of our field ofstudy, which is the literature of exile. The corpus consists of the following novels: Dieu est néen exil, Le Chevalier de la résignation, Persécutez Boèce !, Une Femme pour l’Apocalypse,Les Impossibles, Le Voyage à San Marcos, La Septième lettre and Les Clefs du crépuscule. Tothese, we have added some non fictional texts such as Journal d’un paysan du Danube, somepassages of the correspondence between the author and this brother, some press articles andfinally some fictional texts that were linguistically separated from the rest of our corpus, butwere chosen for their capacity of proving the unity of the work. Our study was built around the concept of exile, studied in its multiple forms, ofwhich we chose to insist on the one that represents this phenomenon as an initiator and animpulse of the human creative attitude. The exile is conceived in our research as an elementdiffused into the works in various manners, thus requiring different approaches. In the first section exile appears as a concept in search of its own definition, approached from different perspectives. The analysis of the exile (as an objective, sociopolitical, psychological and literary reality) was based on the existence of a tradition ofexile in Europe, best represented by the Russian and the German case. These two exampleswere distinguished not only quantitatively but also qualitatively. That is why they were usedin the developing of an inductive approach that was aimed at the discovery of a theory on theliterature of exile, to be subsequently used for the description of the Romanian exile, especially that of Vintila Horia. The second section is the case study previously announced. The „portrait” of Horia iscreated on the basis of his own texts, which gives us the opportunity to offer a less traditionalform of biography. It also indicates the direction of our research. This section has focused onthe development of Vintila Horia – as a man and as a writer – seen under the aspects oflanguage and identity. The plurilingualism of his creation is designed as an intermediarybetween his short monolingual existence and his potential Francophony.7The third and last section is based even to a greater extent on the author’s texts. Dieuest né en exil helds a central position in this process, yet its analysis does not reduce theimportance of other texts, that refer to the author’s interest in theoretical matters of the literarycreation, especially that of the novel. The last chapter is composed by two parts connected bythe analysis of the novels undertaken from different perspectives. The starting point of thefirst part is the observation of the positive effects of writing on the exile. On this occasion westudied some means of defense used by the exile in order to face his new existence. Wesearched and examined these elements at text’s level. The second part of the chapter focusedon the matters of writing and writer. The topics present in Horia’s novels – the writer as acharacter and the presence of the author in the text itself – reveal a modern writer, in spite ofthe archaic appearance of his work

Abstract:
The focus of this study is media’s images of alcohol and how language is used to portray them in Swedish breakfast television. Items on beverages are studied in two episodes of Gomorron Sverige and two episodes of Nyhetsmorgon. The purpose of the study is to investigate the constructions of alcohol as a phenomenon in these programs as well as to increase the understanding of the phenomenon and accumulate to the theorizing on the media’s images of alcohol. To be able to examine these constructions the study uses multimodal critical discourse analysis (MCDA) as a theory as well as a method. The theoretical framework of the study will also be based on the setting within, and the journalistic approach of, the genre of breakfast television as well as a theory on media as a legitimating actor. The procedure of the study is based on multiple concepts of analysis gathered from MCDA which enable a qualitative critical study of the language used within the programs. MCDA regards language as spoken and written language as well as visual signs. Through the linguistic resources, exposed by the deconstruction of the language used in the programs, it is possible to distinguish four thematic discourses within the material of the study. The thematic discourses exist within a familiar context based on the styling of the studios and the journalistic approach of the hosts. The first and most essential thematic discourse is the fact that alcohol is constructed as a norm. Secondly, the viewers are constructed as consumers of alcohol. Furthermore the beverage recommendations are constructed as mass education, mandatory for the viewers to take part of. The final thematic discourse regards alcohol as an exclusive phenomenon.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Portuguese Liberal Revolution of 1820, being a key moment in leading Portugal to contemporaneity, remains, to this day, a curious event, due to the complex ramifications and variations it resulted in, in the first years of the country’s institutionalized liberalism. The Liberals which led the revolution aspired to follow the example of their fellow Spanish partisans, who had abolished absolutism in 1812 and established a representative government based on the Constitution of Cádiz, published in that same year. One of the essential requirements of this representative regime would be the call for elections in the kingdom to define a parliamentary group whose aim was to legislate and act to ensure the nation’s welfare. While true that Portugal’s first liberal experience was short-lived, lasting only three years, it led to two important electoral moments. The first one happened in December of 1820, four months after the uprising in Campo de Santo Ovídio. The second started in August of 1822, and continued until the 6th of October, when parliament members were appointed, on a second ballot. The sources available at the Portuguese Parliament’s Historical Archives, in Palácio de S. Bento, in Lisbon, are extremely useful to carry out an historiographic research on this subject. The last few decades haven proven productive in terms of scientific research on the Portuguese liberalism. Its study is crucial to understand the domino effect of the fall of absolutism and the impact of the ideals inherited from Enlightenment. For us, studying an electoral process like this one is crucial to understand the political factor of the new ideological currents, and to continue to uncover Portugal’s representatives’ way of thinking about the subjects and decisions that would govern the liberal State.

Abstract:
In 2013, Mangosing created VINTA, a small run of designs that are custom fit for consumers, produced by a single master sewer in Manila, and then shipped back to Toronto for distribution. This chapter reads VINTA amid the easy consumption of global Asian and Filipino labor (from fast fashion to the predominance of Filipina/o caregivers in Canada). VINTA works against these patterns by first emphasizing an individualized experience (a custom-made dress) and second, by attempting to work against a system that relies upon low-paid and “deprofessionalized” Filipino laborers. But VINTA is also only made possible because Mangosing outsources the work to the Philippines. She thus sees VINTA as a combination of a capitalist and feminist enterprise, the results of which are an uneasy negotiation of labor and the diaspora, a feminist project that calls attention to the untidy seams of relations between women in the global North and South.
