Abstract:
The current study examined the differences between three types of violent men based on Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart’s (1994) tripartite typology and a group of non-intimate violent men. First, a cluster analysis was conducted on a sample of 91 domestically violent men, resulting in three clusters that approximated the tripartite model for psychopathology as measured by the MMPI-2, that is, non-pathological, borderline/dysphoric, and antisocial. Based on the violence variables (i.e., severity of violence, family-only violence, and exposure to family of origin violence) only severity of violence

Abstract:
One of the reasons for the high dark number that characterizes domestic violence is that women often fail to recognize violence especially in the forms of psychological or economic violence, which, however, through the humiliations, denigrations with which it is substantiated annihilates women's personalities. Often women decide to turn to an anti-violence center only after they have suffered physical violence, and there they discover, then, that they have also been victims of other forms of violence that had not, however, been experienced as such, despite the outcry raised by the media.

The author analyses conformity of the legal description of one relatively new incrimination – Stalking (Article 138a of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Serbia) with the requirements of the Council of Europe Convention on Prevention and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence - ten years after the Republic of Serbia ratified it. The focus is on its implementation in judicial practice (considering the official statistical data as well as those from the case records of two basic courts in Belgrade in five-year period: 2017-2022). Introduction: With numerous studies examining life in prison, identifying research gaps is necessary for mapping focus areas, refining unanswered questions, and avoiding redundant efforts. This process could optimise resources, fosters collaborative approaches, and ultimately lead to more robust and insightful research outcomes. Therefore, this scoping review aimed to identify and address research gaps and future directions within the field of prison studies, specifically focusing on prison climate. Aggression and violent behavior in people with personality disorder (PD) is a serious concern for mental health professionals and those working in the justice system. There are also studies in the literature showing that relationships between TP and aggression vary in both magnitude and direction, supporting the idea that TP reflects substantial heterogeneity in aggressive behavior. Although there has been substantial progress in theoretical knowledge regarding the mechanisms underlying aggressive behavior for specific TPs, a general theory of psychological aggression that can explain the rela

Little is known about the health profile of tertiary students within Aotearoa, New Zealand (NZ), and this paper is the first to explore the health profile of Niue tertiary students within NZ. Part 1 comprises a scoping review which found that obesity, alcohol, smoking, mental health, sexual health, and drug use are the major key health issues for ethnic minority students. Part 2 presents the results of an online survey of Niue tertiary students across all major tertiary institutions within NZ. The Office of Evaluation and Oversight (OVE) conducted an evaluation of a cluster of citizen security projects. The main objective was to identify what factors explained the implementation performance of the projects, and what lessons could be learned from these experiences. This Background Paper presents the results of one of these diagnostics for Nicaragua. Following the introduction, the country profile begins with an overview of the Nicaraguan context in terms of geography, demographics, economy, as well as recent political history (section II). Focusing on ammunition flows and misuse can help reduce armed violence. There are several potential advantages to focusing on ammunition: unlike firearms, ammunition must be replenished once used and restricting its flow can therefore ‘starve firearms of oxygen’. Also, ammunition supply-chains tend to be shorter from transfer to use, increasing the scope for domestic policy to have an immediate effect reducing armed violence in urban environments. In short, improved research into ammunition flows and the dynamics enabling lethal outcomes can inform policy responses with potential to reduce fir

In contrast to other violent non-state actors, these five groups have shown that they are willing to engage in tactical and/or technical innovation in the use of drones, have sustained a long-term engagement with drone technology and demonstrated the capacity to develop drone infrastructure. United Nations (UN) counter-terrorism (CT) policies are challenged by the emergence and resurgence of different threat profiles on the security horizon because its response framework is focused on one type of terrorism and violent extremism (T/VE) threat. As there is increasing focus on the threat of extreme right-wing T/VE in the current social and political context in the West, for example, the challenges of adaptability and transferability become apparent. This is often due to the lack of flexibility and nuance of the conversation around CT at the UN level. This same lack of consideration f

In common with many other African countries, the Republic of South Sudan is increasingly experiencing devastating floods linked to climate change.1,2 The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) and El Niño regulate the climate of Equatorial Eastern Africa. In 2019, a dipole warming in the western Indian Ocean, worsened by climate change, created higher than average evaporation off the African coastline. This water vapour fell inland as rainfall over Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Sudan and South Sudan, causing massive floods.3 Since then, in the Sudd wetlands of central and north-eastern South Sudan, seasonal ra

This document provides an empirical picture of the causes and effects of tenure-related disputes between private sector actors and local peoples across Southeast Asia. It demonstrates that disputes in Southeast Asia are often more intractable and more violent than in any other region examined. The most common reason for these disputes is forced displacement, but factors like environmental damage, cultural abuse, and compensation also figure. The analysis is based on an investigation of 51 case studies across Continental and Maritime Southeast Asia. These “new cases” are compared with a global
