AbstractJenő Hubay (1858–1937) attained his greatest stature as the founder of the Hungarian Violin School. Although Hubay's name is mostly mentioned in violin pedagogy, he was also a popular composer during his lifetime. In this study, we investigate whether the previous studies’ results hold generally in Chinese and Western classical music. Abstract HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) measurement of water soluble quaternary pyridinium salts offers an improvement over previous methods for monitoring corrosion inhibitor residuals. The new method uses the ultra-violet absorbance of the major component of the inhibitor. Response is linear with concentrations between 1 and 1000 ppm, which is the useful working range of the method. Detection limits of less than 1 ppm have been verified. Abstract The response of attached bacteria on internal surfaces of steel pipes to various biocide treatments was assessed using a custom designed field test facility equipped with five separate flow lines. Successful biocide formulations induced a rapid decrease in viable bacterial counts; however, survivors often persisted after prolonged treatment in low level steady state biofilm populations (approximately 104 cells per cm2).
