The small genusPisumis composed of two annual species,P.fulvumand the domesticated peaP.sativum. The domesticated pea has two main wild-type taxa:P.elatiusandP.humile. Members of the genusPisumare not well defended from herbivory by high levels of toxins like the seeds of many other legume species. We studied the color patterns in the pods and seeds of these three wild taxa (P.fulvum,P.elatiusandP.humile) in order to examine their potential for defensive coloration (camouflage and Batesian mimicry). All three taxa are polymorphic concerning pod and seed coloration. The mature pods of many individuals ofP.humileandP.elatiusmimic aposematic caterpillars, but some are plain green. The pods of some individuals ofP.elatiushave a zigzag or straight red marking along them that resembles the conspicuous dorsal markings of the local common venomous viper, potentially mimicking it. The pods of many individuals ofP.fulvumhave dark blotches that when compared to such patterns in animals, potentially function as camouflage. The seeds of all three species are camouflaged by either: (1) color matching with that of soil (especiallyP.fulvumandP.elatius), (2) disruptive coloration (especiallyP.humile), (3) variability in seed-coat color that may undermine the use of search images by visually oriented granivores that look for cryptic seeds (all taxa). The mature pods ofP.fulvumare also defended in many inflorescences by degenerated flowers that develop into sharp thorns. It seems that this species is still in the process of evolving this mechanical defense as the response to millennia of strong grazing pressure.

AbstractThe purpose of this investigation was to quantify the association between 5 vs. 5 small sided games (SSG) running performance and physiological performance during the Yo-YoIR1 test to ascertain the utility of SSGs as a potential fitness test modality within elite professional soccer players. Twenty-three (n = 23) elite male professional soccer players (mean ± SD age 25.3 ± 3.1 yrs, mass: 76 ± 9 kg, height: 176 ± 9 cm) were assessed. Players completed an intermittent aerobic fitness test (Yo-YoIR1) and a 5 vs. 5 SSGs protocol for the purpose of the study. During all SSGs players wore GPS (Statsports 10-Hz, Viper Pod, Newry, Northern Ireland) and HR monitors (Polar, Oy Kemple, Finland) with these measures related to Yo-YoIR1 running performance. Results revealed SSGs running performance (TD; m) and physiological performance (HR) showed the lowest CV% (< 5%), with high speed movements, accelerations and decelerations highlighting higher CV% during SSGs. Possibly small to possibly very large associations were observed for running performance during 5 vs. 5 SSGs and Yo-YoIR1 performance, with negative associations observed between physiological performance during SSG and YoYoIR1 running performance. To conclude, the current study observed how running performance during a standardised 5 vs. 5 SSG protocol within elite soccer cohorts is associated with the Yo-YoIR1 running performance. Given the low CV%, repeatability and large association of global running performance and internal load measures during a 5 vs. 5 SSG with Yo-YoIR1 performance, this particular soccer specific SSG protocol potentially supplements traditional non-sport specific testing assessments.

Das „Pädiatrische Beurteilungs-Dreieck“ (PBD) ist eine schnelle und einfache Beobachtungshilfe um den ersten Eindruck, unabhängig von der zu Grunde liegenden Diagnose, zu standardisieren. Es benützt nur optische und auditive Hinweise und wird innert Sekunden durchgeführt. Es erlaubt Klinikern zu beurteilen ob Notfallmaßnahmen nötig sind oder Zeit für eine gründliche Anamnese und klinische Untersuchung zur Verfügung steht. Atemnot, Magendarmgrippe mit Dehydratation, Fieberkrämpfe und leichtes Schädelhirntrauma sind vier häufige pädiatrische Notfälle die diskutiert werden.

RESUMO Em Mariana, estado de Minas Gerais, após o Rompimento da Barragem de Fundão, famílias passaram por processo de desterritorialização, em que foram deslocadas da área rural para a área urbana. Assim, o objetivo do estudo foi compreender o processo de desterritorialização nesse contexto, as implicações da perda desse locus social para a vida dos atingidos e para a construção de respostas e políticas públicas de saúde. Foi realizada pesquisa qualitativa no período de 2016 a 2018 no município de Mariana, utilizando as técnicas de observação participante e entrevistas com pessoas atingidas. As entrevistas foram analisadas a partir da Análise de Conteúdo, e a discussão foi orientada pelo referencial teórico dos conceitos de território, desterritorialização e sofrimento social. Na observação e nos relatos dos participantes, é marcante a relação simbólica com seu lugar de origem, traduzidos na forma de vínculos e pertencimento. As perdas, em suas diferentes dimensões, impactam a vida desde o luto até o sofrimento social. Até o reassentamento, é necessário que as interpretações desse novo viver não sejam patologizadas para que as pessoas consigam estar conscientes desse processo e serem protagonistas das escolhas.

Zusammenfassung In jüngster Vergangenheit sind immer mehr Halbleitergassensoren im Bereich Innenraumluftqualität auf den Markt gekommen. Diese messen die Gesamtbelastung an flüchtigen organischen Komponenten (engl.: volatile organic compounds, kurz: VOCs) oder einen relativen Innenraumluftqualitätsindex. Mit einer optimierten Betriebsweise und Kalibrierung können die Sensoren in ihrer Selektivität und Sensitivität gesteigert werden, was für die Bewertung der Innenraumluftqualität wichtig wäre. Die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen werden in dieser Studie vorgestellt. Für diese Zielanwendung müssen die Sensoren zuerst kalibriert werden. Auf Basis der Daten einer umfangreichen Laborkalibrierung kommen verschiedene Methoden des maschinellen Lernens für die Datenauswertung zum Einsatz. Diese Studie beinhaltet die Untersuchung der Eignung eines kommerziell verfügbaren Multisensors (SGP30, Sensirion) im temperaturzyklischen Betrieb für die selektive Messung von VOCs im Innenraum. Nach der Laborkalibrierung wurde der Sensor vier Wochen im Feld betrieben. Über Freisetzungstests durch Verdampfung von Flüssigkeiten wurden die Modelle auf Funktionalität geprüft. Außerdem wurden mit den analytischen Messsystemen TD-GC-MS (ThermodesorptionGaschromatographie-Massenspektrometer mit Tenax Probennahme) und einem mobilen GC mit Photo-IonisationsDetektor, PID (X-pid 9500, Dräger) regelmäßig Vergleichsmessungen durchgeführt. Mithilfe von Rekalibrierungen im Labor und anschließenden Feldtests wurde außerdem die Stabilität der Modelle untersucht. Diese Studie zeigt, dass mit dem SGP30 eine Vor-Ort-Messung der Gesamt-VOC-Belastung in Innenräumen mit hoher zeitlicher Auflösung möglich ist und auch eine selektive Messung bestimmter Stoffe und Stoffgruppen realisierbar ist.

e19100 Background: We investigate if venom proteome of vipera ammodytes can induce apoptosis in NSCLC. Methods: We developed a large scale expression system with lung cell line (LCL), which we modified genetically by cloning. We expressed cDNA encoding multimodular disintegrin (rMDVA) comprising 3 domains from the venom of vipera ammodytes. The cDNA of rMDVA was cloned into the plasmid vector pcDNA III, which was transferred into LCL. The multimodular peptide rMDVA was encapsulated in the hydrophilic phase of liposomes termed as LIP-rMDVA. The in-vivo studies with human metastatic NSCLC were performed in an orthotopic xenograft model. Results: The venom proteome contained 140 proteins. We isolated the multimodular disintegrin displaying cysteine rich disulfide bond 2RGD, and C-terminal motif (ammodystatin), the dimeric MLD/VGD motif (VADD) and metalloprotease-domain (ammodylysin). Ammodystatin with the 2 (ARG-GLY-ASP) RGD motifs interacts with integrins avb5, a5b1 inhibiting invasion, angiogenesis/vasculogenesis and blocked the bFGF-induced avb3 integrin, and avb5 downregulating VEGF, and Ras. It also disrupts the actin cytoskeleton inducing G1 DNA replicative phase arrest, and blocks endothelial cell (EC) secretion of MMP-2, MMP-9, and urokinase type plasminogen activator with its receptor inhibiting proteolysis, and dissolution of ECM blocking invasion. Ammodystatin and ammodylysin lead to type I PCD/apoptosis of tumor cells in masses up to 2 mm, and EC. Beyond that size, ammodystatin inhibits the development of the required vascular network according to HUVEC, MVD, and IHC. VADD causes burring and blocked adhesion of a4b1 integrin to VCAM1. LDH, BrdU and MTT exhibited inhibition of tumor and EC proliferation. TEM exhibited apoptotic signs of irreversible D2 stage in tumor and ECs. Conclusions: Novel liposomal formulation LIP-rMDVA is an effective angiostatic, and cytostatic agent against metastatic NSCLC minimizing ST. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Echis carinatus (EC) is known as saw-scaled viper and it is endemic to the Indian subcontinent. Envenoming by EC represents a major cause of snakebite mortality and morbidity in the Indian subcontinent. Zinc (Zn++) dependent snake venom metalloproteases (SVMPs) present in Echis carinatus venom (ECV) is well known to cause systemic hemorrhage and coagulopathy in experimental animals. An earlier report has shown that ECV activates neutrophils and releases neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) that blocks blood vessels leading to severe tissue necrosis. However, the direct involvement of SVMPs in the release of NETs is not clear. Here, we investigated the direct involvement of EC SVMPs in observed pathological symptoms in a preclinical setup using specific Zn++ metal chelator, Tetraethyl thiuram disulfide (TTD)/disulfiram. TTD potently antagonizes the activity of SVMPs-mediated ECM protein degradation in vitro and skin hemorrhage in mice. In addition, TTD protected mice from ECV-induced footpad tissue necrosis by reduced expression of citrullinated H3 (citH3) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in footpad tissue. TTD also neutralized ECV-induced systemic hemorrhage and conferred protection against lethality in mice. Moreover, TTD inhibited ECV-induced NETosis in human neutrophils and decreased the expression of peptidyl arginine deiminase (PAD) 4, citH3, MPO, and p-ERK. Further, we demonstrated that ECV-induced NETosis and tissue necrosis are mediated via PAR-1-ERK axis. Overall, our results provide an insight into SVMPs-induced toxicities and the promising protective efficacy of TTD can be extrapolated to treat severe tissue necrosis complementing anti-snake venom (ASV).

Abstract Single crystals of CuO(Cu,Mg)3[(As0.7P0.3)O4]2 have been prepared by crystallization from melts. The compound crystallizes with triclinic symmetry, space group Ci1-P1̄, a = 6.372(4), b = 7.643(7), c = 8.175(5) Å, α = 98.59(6), β = 112.26(3), γ = 99.03(3)°, Z = 2. CuO(Cu,Mg)3[(As0.7P0.3)O4]2 is isotypic to Cu4(PO4)2O . X-ray investigations show square planar CuO4 polygons, twisted tetragonal CuO5 pyramids, CuO5 bipyramids and elongated (Cu,Mg)O6 octahedra.

As novas configurações que estão se delineando nos diversos contextos de prática social focadas na inclusão das pessoas com deficiência (PcD) na sociedade brasileira contemporânea apontam substantivas oportunidades para que a enfermagem amplie seu espectro de atuação, intervenção, reconhecimento social e identificação como fundamental para a promoção da saúde e qualidade de vida dessas pessoas. Para que tais oportunidades não sejam perdidas, entretanto, faz-se necessária profunda reavaliação do arcabouço de saberes e fazeres que norteiam as atividades de ensino, pesquisa, extensão e prática social da enfermagem, consoante com as novas exigências do mercado e pronta a atender as demandas que se apresentam. É importante considerar que dados do Censo 2010 do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) [1] identificaram que 45,6 milhões de pessoas possuem algum tipo de deficiência, no Brasil. Isso significa 23,91% da população brasileira. O que sinaliza rico universo para imprescindíveis atividades da enfermagem, partindo de ações e intervenções diagnósticas, intervencionistas e preventivas de saúde e reabilitação.O Decreto nº 7.612, de 17 de novembro de 2011, que institui o Plano Nacional dos Direitos da Pessoa com Deficiência – Viver sem Limite, e o teor da Portaria nº 2.672, de 16 de novembro de 2011, trazem novas perspectivas para atuação da enfermagem, além da possibilidade para demarcação de novos campos de prática para suas futuras gerações [2,3].Nesse sentido, através de um conjunto de ações estratégicas em educação, saúde, inclusão social e acessibilidade, o Plano Nacional para Pessoas com Deficiência tem o objetivo de promover a cidadania e o fortalecimento da participação da pessoa com deficiência na sociedade, promovendo sua autonomia, eliminando barreiras e permitindo o acesso e o usufruto, em bases iguais, aos bens e serviços disponíveis a toda a população.Novas oportunidades para a enfermagem surgem também com a estruturação da Rede de Atenção à Saúde da Pessoa com Deficiência-SUS, que será um conjunto de serviços, ações e estratégias de saúde com o objetivo de garantir a assistência integral a toda população que necessita deste tipo de atendimento, ao que nos impele maior preparo para superar lacunas no âmbito dos programas de formação profissional em todos os níveis, adquirindo conhecimento para elaborar planejamento de assistência e cuidados de enfermagem específicos para atender as necessidades de pessoas com deficiência física, auditiva, visual, mental, múltipla e psicossocial.Não nos será possível avançar na sintonia desses novos tempos sem que admitamos a necessidade de investir em grandes mudanças dos padrões atuais, no sentido de adequarmos nossa forma de interagir com pessoas desse segmento da sociedade. Interações deficitárias têm caracterizado perfil dos serviços prestados por todos os profissionais da área de saúde, quando se trata dos serviços e atendimentos prestados às pessoas com deficiência, e com a enfermagem não é diferente.Ainda agimos com passividade diante da falta de estrutura das nossas unidades de saúde, em todos os níveis de atendimentos, frequentemente, inacessíveis no ponto de vista arquitetônico, seja em suas áreas internas, seja em seus entornos. Admite-se sem maiores questionamentos éticos que sejam inauguradas, em nossos mais de 5.000 municípios, algumas milhares de unidades de saúde sem contemplar fundamentais preceitos de acessibilidade dispostos na NBR 9050/2004. Não nos parece incômodo, tampouco se constitui objeto de discussão da maioria a maldosa e perpetuada ausência de profissionais de enfermagem habilitados para a comunicação não-verbal, nos diversos setores das nossas unidades de saúde, prontos para interagir adequadamente com surdos e lhes prestar cuidados e assistência digna.Como se pode observar, muito temos a refletir, conhecer, aprender, reaprender e assumir que para conquistar esses novos territórios de prática profissional que se anunciam para a enfermagem, mudanças se fazem essenciais. A rede de reabilitação do SUS, por exemplo, é composta por diversos serviços especializados em deficiência física, visual, auditiva e intelectual, oficinas ortopédicas, unidades básicas de saúde e hospitais, voltados para o enfrentamento de problemas das pessoas com deficiência. Embora já implementada, ainda persistem lacunas na maioria dos programas de formação em enfermagem que sequer oferecem oportunidade para os estudantes aprenderem a cuidar dessas pessoas.É importante acrescentar que os Centros Especializados de Reabilitação (CER) serão implantados a partir de 2012. Mais ainda, que os CERs são serviços que agregam tecnologia para atender às várias modalidades de cuidado específicas para os diferentes tipos de deficiência, com qualidade e efetividade no cuidado. Não há tempo a perder!Com efeito, a partir do programa “Viver Sem Limite”, espera-se que o Brasil avance ainda mais na promoção da inclusão social das pessoas com deficiência, articulando e organizando ações que foram aprimoradas e fortalecidas para eliminar barreiras e permitir o acesso desta população a bens e serviços.

Zusammenfassung: Zieh: Prüfung des Einflusses des Absetzens von den Muttertieren auf Reaktionsfähigkeit und physiologische Messwerte von Jungrindern bei einem Transport (TP). Material und Methoden: An 16 Jungrindern der Mutterkuhherde (Weidehaltung, je acht behandelte Tiere und Kontrolltiere) erfolgten vor und 13-18 Tage nach dem Absetzen (23-27 Tage nach erstem Test) Langzeitmessungen der Herzschlagfrequenz (HF) und Punktmessungen der Blutzusammensetzung und der Rektaltemperatur (RT) vor TP, unmittelbar nach TP sowie am folgenden Tag. Die behandelten Tiere waren vier Monate lang an drei Tagen pro Woche für 90 Minuten aufgestallt und einem intensiven Einfluss durch zwei Personen ausgesetzt worden. Ergebnisse: Kontroll- und behandelte Tiere differierten signifikant in der HF nach der Aufstallung und beimTPund an den meisten der physiologischen Variablen in den drei Untersuchungen vor und nach dem TP. Das Absetzen beeinflusste signifikant die HF nach der Aufstallung und während der Wartezeit auf dem Fahrzeug, nicht die HF bei Verladen, TP und Entladen. Bei behandelten Tieren war die HF aller Phasen des TP-Vor- gangs, bei den Kontrolltieren nur dieHFbeimVerladen und nach dem Absetzen auch die HFzu TP-Beginn signifikant gegenüber der HF nach Aufstallung und derjenigen nach TP auf der Weide erhöht. Unterschiedliche Erregungssteigerungen der Tiere zeigten sich in größeren Werten fürHb, Hk, O2CAP, O2CONT, O2SAT, pO2, pH und kleineren Werten für pCO2, BE und HCO3 der Kontrolltiere gegenüber den behandelten Tieren insbesondere vor dem ersten TP-Test. Durch den TP änderten sich nur pO2 und RT signifikant. Nach dem Absetzen war eine signifikant verringerte RT beim TP-Vorgang festzustellen. Schlussfolgerungen: Reaktionen der Jungrinder aus Mutterkuhhaltung können bei der Vorbereitung zum TP vor und nach dem Absetzen so stark sein, dass in den übrigen Phasen des TP nur mäßige änderungen physiologischer Variablen vorliegen. Effekte der Gewöhnung der Tiere an Aufstallung und Manipulationen waren nach dem Absetzen an den physiologischen Variablen der behandelten Jungrinder nicht mehr so deutlich wie vorher, der schnellere Rückgang der Erregung während der Wartezeit auf dem Fahrzeug war unverändert.

DK resumé Artiklen beskriver og diskuterer, hvordan børns perspektiver på deltagelse kan indfanges på måder, hvor også børns underprivilegerede stemmer synliggøres. Artiklens teoretiske, metodiske og empiriske baggrund er et ph.d.-projekt omhandlende børns deltagelse i den selvorganiserede legs legefællesskaber i børnehaven. Først indkredser artiklen den teoretiske forståelse af relationelle sammenhænge mellem objektive strukturer og subjektive handlinger af betydning for deltagelsesforståelser. Dernæst viser artiklen empirisk, hvordan børns deltagelsesmodstand kan ses som et underverdensoprør mod den institutionelle deltagelsesforståelse, som en underprivilegeret stemme, der bringes til syne og til drøftelse. Afslutningsvis drøfter artiklen forskningsetiske udfordringer og fordele ved at anlægge et undersøgelsesdesign, der kan indfange børns perspektiver på deres institutionelle hverdagsliv. Abstract – UK Participation – a right, an obligation or an institutional opportunity for children in daycare describes and discusses how children’s perspectives can be captured in ways children’s underprivileged voices as well can be made visible. The theoretical, methodological, and empirical background of the article is a PhD-research concerning children’s participation in the self-organized play and play-communities in kindergarten. First, the article outlines the theoretical understanding of relational coherences between objective structures and subjective actions of significance for participatory understandings. Next, the article empirically shows how children’s resistance to participation can be seen as an underworld rebellion against the institutional understanding of participation, as an underprivileged voice that is brought into view and discussed. Finally, the article discusses research ethics challenges and benefits of constructing a study design able to capture children’s perspectives on their institutional everyday life.

AbstractOpen prisons are low-security penitentiary institutions in which life conditions are less strict than in closed prisons, and where prisoners have more contact with the outside world. Despite sharing important features, some variations can be found in the model of open prisons in different countries. This article describes the Catalan open prison model, characterized by the fact that prisoners serve the sentence in full semi-liberty; that is, by day they work and spend time with their families or doing other activities, but return to prison to sleep. As a contribution to the comparative study of open prisons, I describe here how Catalan open prisons are run and discuss the concept of ‘openness’ with reference, above all, to the open prisons that exist in Scandinavian countries. This work shows that the degree of openness of open prisons varies considerably between different countries – therefore approaching community penalties or closed prisons in a greater or lesser extent – and suggests that the role that open prisons are granted in each penal system is part of the explanation.1 1)Marta Martí holds a PhD in Law (Criminology). AbstractÅbne fængsler har et lavere control-niveau end lukkede fængsler og indsatte i åbne fængsler har mere kontakt til verden uden for fængslet. Trods mange ligheder findes der også en del forskelle imellem åbne fængsler i forskellige lande. I denneartikel præsenteres åbne fængsler i Catalonien. Disse er kendetegnet ved at de indsatte rent faktisk nyder delvis frihed. Det indebærer, at de i dagtimerne går på arbejde uden for fængslet eller tilbringer tid sammen med deres familie eller er beskæftiget på anden måde i lokalområdet. Om aftenen vender de tilbage til fængslet og tilbringer natten dér. I artiklen sammenlignes de catalanske åbne fængsler med åbne fængsler i Skandinavien. Sammenligningen viser, at der er store forskelle i graden af åbenhed i åbne fængsler, nogle steder ligger de tættere på samfunds-straffe og andre steder langt tættere på lukkede fængsler. Der argumenteres for, at en del af forklaringen her på er, hvilken rolle i det samlede nationale straffesystem de åbne fængsler har i forskellige lande.

Med udgangspunkt i nyere diskussioner om kvalitativ metode, intersektionalitet og metodeproblemer som datakilde analyserer artiklen de problemer i form af modstand og undvigen, forfatteren har mødt under udarbejdelsen af sin ph.d. afhandling blandt marginaliserede unge mænd med indvandrerbaggrund. Det vises, at de unge mænd gør modstand mod den objektivering, der kan ligge i det sociologiske blik, og at feltrelationerne får en etnisk/racial gennemfarvning, således at det som undviges især er en etnisk/racial forskellighedslogik. De unge antager, at forskningsinteressen drejer sig om kriminalitet og gør følgelig modstand mod det kriminaliserende blik. De påberåber sig normalitet, ligesom de ironiserer over stereotype forestillinger om kriminelle unge indvandrermænd. Modstanden viser noget om de unge mænds forhold til voksne hvide autoriteter og noget om de komplekse identiteter, som produceres blandt de unge. Således problematiserer analysen den teoretiske udlægning, at de unge mænd internaliserer stereotype forestillinger om dem selv. ENGELSK ABSTRACT: Sune Qvotrup Jensen: ’’Is There Something Special about Bands?’’ On Resistance, Otherness and Positions in a Socio-logical Fieldwork The author addresses the problems of resistance and avoidance encountered in the empirical part of his PhD. project among marginalized young men with immigrant background. This is done through a discussion of qualitative methods, intersectionality and methodological problems as a source of data. The young men resist being seen as objects in the sociological gaze, and the field relations become cast as ethnic and racial, so that what is resisted is in particular a logic of ethnic and racial difference. The young men assume that the researcher is interested in criminal matters, and resist the criminalizing gaze. They claim normality, just as they use irony when playing with the stereotype imaginary of young criminal immigrant men. The resistance casts light on the relation between the young men and adult white authorities. It also illustrates the complex identities constructed by the young people. The article questions the theoretical idea that these young men internalize stereotypical understandings of themselves. I de senere årene har blant annet norske elevers resultater på internasjonale og nasjonale undersøkelser blitt brukt til å legitimere politiske initiativer for å styrke læreres kunnskap, hvor vektlegging av forskning og elevresultater har stått sentralt. Disse kunnskapsformene, som karakteriseres av å være abstrakte og generiske, står på mange måter i kontrast til de mer kontekstuelle og erfaringsbaserte kunnskapsformene som lenge har stått sentralt i lærer­profesjonen. I denne artikkelen diskuterer vi ulike utfordringer som denne utviklingen skaper, på bakgrunn av læreres oppfatninger og erfaringer rundt disse endringene i deres kunnskapsgrunnlag. Mer spesifikt belyser vi hvordan lærere tilnærmer seg nye kunnskapsformer og setter dem i sammenheng med eksisterende praksis, en prosess vi omtaler som rekontekstualisering. Artikkelen er et teoretisk bidrag som har som formål å belyse læreres samhandling med nye kunnskapsformer. Med støtte i empiri fra to doktorgradsavhandlinger, viser vi hvordan abstrakte kunnskapsformer fordrer at lærerne må utøve et betydelig “oversettelsesarbeid” for at ny kunnskap skal oppleves som relevant. Videre diskuterer vi hvordan dette oversettelsesarbeidet får konsekvenser for hvordan læreres autonomi og ansvarsområder formes, og for hvordan profesjonens kunnskapsbase videreutvikles. Til slutt diskuterer vi implikasjoner for lærer­utdanningen, med vekt på hvordan lærerstudenter kan utvikle et grunnlag for å håndtere dilemmaer i spenningsfeltet mellom profesjonskunnskap, ansvar og autonomi.Nøkkelord: lærerarbeid, profesjonskunnskap, lærerutdanning, læreres kunn­skapsbase, utdanningsreformer, lærerprofesjonalitetAbstract In recent years, Norwegian students’ results on national and international tests have been used to legitimise political initiatives aimed at strengthening teachers’ knowledge, emphasising the importance of research and systematic analysis of student results. These abstract and generic forms of knowledge represent a contrast to the contextual and experience based knowledge that has historically been important in the teaching profession. In this article we discuss some of the challenges associated with this development, based on teachers’ perceptions about and experiences with these changes to their knowledge base. More specifically, we examine how teachers approach new forms of knowledge and relate them to existing forms of practice, a process we refer to as recontextualisation. The article is a theoretical contribution which aims to shed light on teachers’ interactions with new forms of knowledge. Using data from two PhD dissertations as empirical illustrations, we show how abstract forms of knowledge require that teachers conduct significant “translation work” for new knowledge resources to be experienced as relevant to established practice. We also discuss the implications of these processes of translation for how teachers’ autonomy and responsibilities are shaped, and for how the profession’s knowledge base is developed. Finally, we outline implications for teacher education, emphasising how student teachers can develop a basis for handling dilemmas that emerge from the tensions between professional knowledge, responsibility and autonomy.Keywords: professional knowledge, teacher education, teachers’ knowledge base, educational reforms, teacher professionalism

RESUMO“A ouvir é que a gente se entende” é um ensaio que escrevi no início da minha pesquisa de doutoramento em 2012, estimulada pelo VIII encontro do Fórum Internacional Paulo Freire. Tudo começou em 2003 numa viagem que aproximou o Porto, Portugal e Salgueiro (Pernambuco), Brasil. Hoje, olhando para trás, percebo de que foi um momento de viragem, uma tomada de consciência sobre o que havíamos partilhado até então e sobre todas as oferendas que recebi da comunidade quilombola de Conceição das Crioulas durante a viagem a Salgueiro. Na bagagem transportava comigo não só os ensinamentos de Paulo Freire e a pedagogia crioula, que conheci na comunidade; mas também, um medo miudinho da responsabilidade que procurava assumir: queria ir viver na comunidade para estar lá, sentir o ritmo do dia a dia, ser pessoa capaz de assimilar o mundo que me rodeia procurando reinventar-me todos os dias nesta partícula que é global. Listening is how we understand each other ABSTRACT “By listening we understand” is an essay that I wrote at the beginning of my PhD research in 2012, catalysed by the VIII meeting of the Paulo Freire International Forum. O objetivo do presente texto é considerar experiências de pessoas com deficiência (PCD) na pandemia de Covid-19 e as estratégias criadas para (sobre)viver ao contexto que se/lhes impõe. Os relatos e dados apresentados advém de entrevistas e conversas informais, via Skype e Whatsapp, como forma de manter o isolamento social, mas também de gerar acessibilidade para corpos deficientes (do pesquisador e dos entrevistados), bem como de uma pequena autoetnografia. Esses relatos demonstram que a pandemia atinge corpos de maneiras diferentes, e que os corpos deficientes são atingidos de formas mais perigosas, daí a necessidade de se criar estratégias e técnicas de si (FOUCAULT, 2010) para (sobre)viver na/à pandemia. Isso demonstra, ainda, a potencialidade, criatividade e inventividade dos corpos deficientes, tanto em relação a si mesmos, quanto como pontos de contraste e de reflexão acerca da sociedade.

Tijdens een doctoraatsopleiding worden onderzoekers voornamelijk onderwezen in de verschillende methodieken, theorieën en technieken in kwalitatief onderzoek. Dit creëert de indruk dat kwalitatief onderzoek een instrumenteel en dus neutraal proces is. Wanneer onderzoekers het veld betreden, worden ze echter geconfronteerd met verschillende onverwachte uitdagingen en valkuilen. Deze kunnen van emotionele, ethische of praktische aard zijn. Door de publish or perish-cultuur komen deze zaken weinig of zelfs helemaal niet aan bod. Wie geeft de onderzoeker bijvoorbeeld meer informatie over hoe met de eigen emoties om te gaan bij sensitieve interviews? Wie onderricht de onderzoeker over hoe een grens gesteld kan worden tussen het ‘onderzoeker-zijn’ en het ‘zorgverlener-zijn’?Deze en andere vragen brachten vier PhD-onderzoekers (de auteurs van dit artikel) van de Vrije Universiteit Brussel ertoe een training te organiseren om deze onderbelichte kwesties te bespreken. De tweedaagse training werd bijgewoond door een dertigtal PhD-onderzoekers van verschillende universiteiten in Vlaanderen met verschillende disciplinaire achtergronden, maar allen direct betrokken bij kwalitatief onderzoek.

Phd-kurs ved NTNU-bibliotekene – en utviklingshistorieVi vil se nærmere på ide/opplegg, organisering, gjennomføring og erfaringer fra forskjellige kurs for phd-kandidater ved NTNU-biblioteket: Kurs for humanister og samfunnsvitere, kurs for medisinere og kurs for kandidater innen teknologi og naturvitenskap (mest sivilingeniører), avholdt på forskjellige campuser og av forskjellige undervisere. Å mestre avansert søking og databehandling blir bare mer og mer sentralt for forskning, selv om det varierer fra disiplin til disiplin. Vi vil gjennomgå egen erfaring, fagmiljøenes behov og hva forskning viser om behovet for informasjonskompetanse-undervisning av PhD-kandidater, med fokus på forskjellige vitenskapers informasjonskompetanse. Krav om at forskning skal være original, bygge på tidligere forskning og de muligheter som vi har fått til å behandle mye større mengder data enn før (e-science) innebærer at kursholderne må være svært oppdatert og ha spisskompetanse i de enkelte baser og verktøy. Dessuten er plagiering og kildevurdering viktige og aktuelle tema. Kursene krever høy kompetanse hos kursholderne og det beste er å utnytte de forskjellige kompetansene som finnes i biblioteket slik at kursene blir et resultat av team-arbeid. I tillegg trekkes andre fagfolk inn (forskningsetikk, akademisk skriving m.m). De organisatoriske utfordringene og markedsføring av kursene blir også viktige når vi arrangerer slike kurs. Undervisningstilbudet blir evaluert fortløpende, og vi ønsker å sette fokus på erfaringsutveksling og praktisk gjennomføring i tillegg til å se på innholdet i våre kurs.

Introduction: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is frequently performed in a manner inconsistent with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. Published studies on CPR quality during pediatric cardiac arrest using chest compression (CC) monitor devices have reported data in aggregate form from entire CPR events. The addition of video review allows precise measurement of CPR quality at the level of individual providers. Hypothesis: To measure individual healthcare providers’ (HCP) CPR quality during pediatric cardiac arrest events in actual patients in the emergency department (PED) and describe adherence to AHA guidelines. Methods: A report from the Videography in Pediatric Emergency Resuscitation (VIPER) Collaborative, a prospective observational database from three tertiary PEDs. All study sites videorecord and review resuscitations and use a pressure sensor/monitor device during CPR. All events where chest compressions (CC) were performed under videorecorded conditions with the monitor device in use were eligible for inclusion. Data on CPR performance was collected by a combination of video review and monitor device; CC rate and depth and ventilation rate were extracted in time periods corresponding to individual CPR providers. CPR segments were defined as ‘high-quality’ if all AHA guidelines were achieved (CC rate 100-120 cpm; CC depth >= 1.5 inches for infants or >= 2 inches for children; ventilation rate 8-12 bpm, no pauses > 10 seconds). Results: Between August 2016 and April 2018, complete data was available for 31 events (infants: n=5; older children: n=6). 279 compression segments were analyzed. Median CC rate was 119 cpm (IQR 110 – 129); median depth was 1.0 inches in infants (IQR 0.85 – 1.2) and 2.1 inches in older children (IQR 1.4 – 2.4). Median ventilation rate was 15 bpm (IQR 10 - 30). 22/279 (8%) compression segments met all criteria for high-quality CPR. Conclusions: PED HCPs infrequently met AHA guidelines for CPR quality. Future studies using video review and CC monitor data collection should examine the impact of specific training strategies on provider-level CPR performance during pediatric cardiac arrest.

Hierdie subsegmente word bepreek aan die hand van die volgende vier kenmerke wat elkeen tipeer: (1) soort treine aangewend, (2) soort trokke benut, (3) soort eindpunte gebruik en (4) soort goedere vervoer. Die geïdentifiseerde subsegmente van die spoorgoederevervoermark is soos volg: (1) losmaatgoederevervoer, (2) grootmaatvervoer van (a) mynbouprodukte, (b) vloeistowwe en (c) graan; (3) op-enafrydienste en (4) standaard-intermodale houervervoer.

Introduction: Guidelines for infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) recommend two finger (2F) technique for one-rescuer chest compressions (CCs) and a two-thumb encircling (2T) for two-rescuers CCs. Pediatric guidelines recommend either a one-handed (1H) or two-handed (2H) technique based on provider judgement. Previous small, single site studies suggest that 2T compressions are more effective for infant CPR than 2F and 1H. Hypothesis: To combine video review and monitor-defibrillator CC analysis to determine the effects of hand placement on CC quality in a pediatric emergency department (PED). Methods: Data was obtained from the Videography in Pediatric Emergency Resuscitation (VIPER) Collaborative, a prospective observational resuscitation database from 3 tertiary PEDs. Participating sites review resuscitations for quality, safety, and research purposes. Rate and depth for continuous CC segments delivered by a single compressor (epoch) were obtained from Zoll R-series monitor-defibrillator, epoch duration and hand position from video, and patient demographics from medical records. Epochs with analyzable video and CC data were eligible for inclusion. Quality of CC rate and depth were evaluated for adherence to 2015 AHA standards. Results: A total of 248 minutes of CCs for 19 patients [14 infants ≤1 year; 5 toddlers 2-4 years] were analyzed. Median CC rates were adherent to AHA standards for toddlers but not infants, where CCs were often too fast (Table 1). CC depth was inadequate in both infant and toddlers. The 2T technique in infants was significantly associated with adherence to AHA standards for rate ( X 2 =4.97; X 2 =3.64) (Table 1). Conclusions: Infant CC rate and depth and toddler CC depth were not adherent to AHA standards. Performing CCs on infants using the 2T technique was most likely to produce CCs at the recommended rate. Further understanding and implementation of techniques to assist with providing high-quality CCs in young patients is needed.

Introduction: Endotracheal intubation (ETI) of critically ill children is a high acuity, low frequency procedure in the pediatric emergency department that presents unique challenges to both pediatric and general acute care providers. COVID-19 and the associated requirements for PPE use, limitations of in-room personnel, communication difficulties, and reorganization of equipment have created new complexities. Objective: To use video review to compare intubator training level, first-attempt ETI success and presence of hypoxia during ETI attempts in the pediatric emergency department in the pre-COVID and COVID era. Methods: This is a retrospective multi-center case series of videorecordings of endotracheal intubations at the four tertiary care pediatric emergency departments comprising the VIPER Collaborative. All children undergoing emergent ETI between 1/1/2019-6/1/2020 in whom videorecordings were available were included for analysis. Data on patient age and intubator background was collected. Outcomes were first-attempt intubation success and hypoxia, defined as SpO2 <90%. Data was compared before (PRE) and after (POST) implementation of COVID-19 airway protocols, which each PED adopted in March 2020. Univariate analysis comparing PRE and POST for both outcomes was done by c2 testing. Multivariate analysis with a generalized estimating equation to control for clustering by site was done to determine the independent association between PRE and POST and outcomes. Results: Between 1/1/2019 and 6/1/2020, a total of 272 patients underwent ETI (239 PRE, 33 POST). Overall first attempt success was 155/239 (65%) in PRE and 28/33 (85%) in POST (p=0.02). Hypoxia was noted in 15% of PRE patients and in 12% of POST patients. Analysis of the training level of the intubator was notable for a significant increase in the number of intubations performed by anesthesiologists (55% POST vs. 13% PRE, p<0.001). In multivariate analysis controlling for intubator background, the POST phase was associated with greater first attempt success (AOR 2.4, 95% CI 1.6 – 3.7). Conclusion: Pediatric ETI in the COVID-19 era is associated with increased first attempt success when compared to the pre-COVID era.

Based on notions of cultural studies on identity and difference, this article discusses and problematizes the notion of multiculturalism, evidencing it as a useful concept to understand meanings built on changes introduced in the university from the introduction of quotas - particularly in social relations and in the formation and practice of the future professional of medicine. As a data collection technique, semi-structured interviews were conducted with students of the UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) medical school, an institution that was very resistant to the introduction of this policy. Content analysis was employed for the analysis of the constructions carried out by the students in different periods of the course. The results showed the identification of power relations and conflicts as mediators of the conviviality among the multiple cultures; at the same time, we found the recognition that the coexistence of multiple cultures introduces new agenda, brings the concreteness of other experiences previously absent from this context, which is an invitation to reflect on the role of this institution, the medical course, and its curriculum. In spite of not solving social inequalities, the politics of quotas causes important fissures in the social, cultural and racial homogeneity that, in general, characterizes the elite courses such as medicine. Thus, it is important to reflect on the dynamics of the processes of identity construction present in this space, making possible inquiries about the formation of this professional and the possibility of more democratic relations in the public university.ResumoCom base em noções dos estudos culturais sobre identidade e diferença este artigo discute e problematiza a noção de multiculturalismo, evidenciando-a como conceito útil para entender significados construídos sobre mudanças introduzidas na universidade a partir da introdução das cotas – particularmente nas relações sociais e na formação e atuação do futuro profissional da medicina. Como técnica de coleta de dados fez-se uso de entrevistas semi-estruturadas realizadas com alunos/as do curso de medicina da UFRJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro), instituição que foi muito resistente à introdução dessa política. Para a análise das construções realizadas pelos alunos em diferentes períodos do curso recorreu-se à análise de conteúdo. Dentre os resultados evidenciou-se a identificação de relações de poder e conflitos como mediadores do convívio entre as múltiplas culturas; ao mesmo tempo, encontrou o reconhecimento que o convívio de múltiplas culturas introduz novas pautas e a concretude de outras experiências anteriormente ausentes desse contexto e que são um convite para se refletir sobre o papel dessa instituição, do curso de medicina e de seu currículo. A despeito de por si só não solucionar as desigualdades sociais, a política de cotas provoca fissuras importantes na homogeneidade social, cultural e racial que, de forma geral, caracteriza os cursos como o de medicina. Assim, é importante refletir sobre a dinâmica dos processos de construção identitária presentes neste espaço, possibilitando indagações sobre a formação desse profissional e a possibilidade de relações mais democráticas na universidade pública.
