Abstract:

Abstract:
The availability of a suitable data acquisition sensor network is a key implementation issue to link models with real world structures. Non-contact displacement sensors should be preferred since they do not change the system properties. A two-dimensional vision-based displacement measurement sensor is the focus of this contribution. In particular, the perspective distortion introduced by the angle between the optic axis of the camera and the normal to the plane in which the structural system deforms is considered. A two-dimensional affine transformation is utilized to eliminate the distortion from the recorded to the distortion-free image. The results of a laboratory experiment show the potential of the proposed approach.

Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractThe color vision of three domestic dogs was examined in a series of behavioral discrimination experiments. Measurements of increment-threshold spectral sensitivity functions and direct tests of color matching indicate that the dog retina contains two classes of cone photopigment. These two pigments are computed to have spectral peaks of about 429 nm and 555 nm. The results of the color vision tests are all consistent with the conclusion that dogs have dichromatic color vision.

Abstract:
The psychometric properties of seven temporal factors (TFT) and five spatial factors (SFT) tests were assessed in a sample of 20 undergraduates. Subjects completed six repeated measures sessions of the TFTs and four trials of SFTs. All tests except Neisser's letter search produced stable measures. Reliabilities ranged from .81 to .98 for Simultaneity, Flicker, Search, and Bistable Stroboscopic Motion and from .59 to .71 for Masking, Phi, and Dynamic Visual Acuity. Of the 70 possible correlations between spatial and temporal batteries (7 TFTs X 5 SFTs X 2 distances), only four were significant. The moderate to high retest reliabilities, combined with the negligible correlations between spatial and temporal tests suggest that the two processes are largely independent.

Abstract:
This mixed methods study identified obstacles to internationalization in the Republic of Korea by examining differences in stakeholder perceptions at a large, private regional university. Questionnaire data (n = 127) and interview transcripts (n = 17) were analyzed. Independent samples t-tests of Korean and international stakeholders (administrators, faculty, and students) and one-way ANOVAs of faculty, students, and administrative staff were conducted to detect differences in the perceived importance and quality of internationalization at the university. Stakeholder groups shared high perceived importance for internationalization, but internationals perceived quality to be lower than Koreans (p = .023), and faculty lower than both students (p = .03) and administrative staff (p = .025). Qualitative analysis revealed differences rooted in inconsistent conceptualizations of internationalization among stakeholder groups. Resentment, confusion, a lack of communication, and low organizational commitment emerged as barriers. Without a change in approach, internationalization efforts at Korean institutions of higher education will likely stall.
