Abstract:
Purpose: In May 2012 UK visual standards for driving changed, in order to comply with European laws. Drivers need to have both a visual acuity of 6/12 AND be able to read a number plate at 20 metres. Previously the number plate test was the only visual acuity test. Methods: Four different distance visual acuity charts were used (Snellen, logMAR letter-similar to ETDRS, logMAR Landolt ring, distance reading acuity- similar to MNRead chart) and were presented at 6m. 120 drivers were tested binocularly without refractive correction. Participants were taken outside to perform the number plate test

Simulated images can provide insight into the performance of optical systems, especially those with complicated features. Many modern solutions for presbyopia and cataracts feature sophisticated power geometries or diffractive elements. Some intraocular lenses (IOLs) arrive at multifocality through the use of a diffractive surface and multifocal contact lenses have a radially varying power profile. These type of elements induce simultaneous vision as well as affecting vision much differently than a monofocal ophthalmic appliance. With myriad multifocal ophthalmics available on the market it is

The majority of children attending ophthalmology clinics require a visual acuity assessment. The optimal technique depends on age as well as the ability to cooperate with testing. Most acuity assessments are performed subjectively by an orthoptist. Objective acuity assessment by Visual Evoked Potential (VEP) provides a complementary assessment in those subjects who cannot complete subjective tests. The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a rapid, objective visual acuity assessment. The technique was named the step_ VEP and is based on the real-time analysis of steady-state VEPs (ssVE

Dynamic Visual Acuity (DVA) refers to an observer's ability to resolve a critical detail in a visual target under conditions of relative motion between an observer and a target. These procedures (dictated by apparatus constraints), ensured observers knew when and from where targets would appear. When this occurs the patient is experiencing oscillopsia, which is the symptom resulting from a non-functional vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR). To measure the presence of oscillopsia, tests of dynamic visual acuity (DVA) may be used. A recent test of DVA has been reported which is administered while patients are walking on a treadmill. Abstract:
