Abstract:
Background The visual analog scale is widely used in research studies, but its connection with clinical experience outside the research setting and the best way to administer the VAS forms are not well established. This study defines changes in dosing of intravenous patient-controlled analgesia as a clinically relevant outcome and compares it with VAS measures of postoperative pain. Methods Visual analog scale measurements were obtained from 150 patients on the morning after intraabdominal surgery. On the same afternoon, 50 of the patients provided a VAS score on the same form used in the morn

Objective: Currently, capturing and quantifying subjective health relevant data, such as pain, pain-profiles, well-being, etc., is routinely done by visual analog scales, i.e., the patient rates by associating the considered parameter with a numerical value, e.g., between 0 and 10. In most cases this is still done, on a paper-pencil basis, requiring wasteful (manual) post-processing and at the same time being susceptible to errors. In order to overcome these problems, an analog scale integrated into a smart NFC transponder has been developed.

In this work, the immediate and long-term results of denervation of intervertebral joints in 30 patients with pain syndrome in the lumbar spine were studied. The catamnesis was collected from 18 patients in terms from 1.7 months to 18 months after surgery. Pain syndrome on a visually analog scale after surgery decreased by an average of 20-30 mm. Subclinically expressed anxiety/depression persists in all patients with a “good” result of treatment, the assessment was carried out using the hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).
