Abstract:
This article describes scientific discoveries that drive the phenomenon of visual cultural communication media in networked societies. Many types of research on visual culture have focused more on visual arts and mass media. However, few have yet addressed the problem of people's digital activities in searching for visual information on the Internet ( Visual search engine as a resource for visual data mining The amount of digital information, including visual information, is increasing exponentially. This research uses a literature study method with a qualitative approach. The primary data used in this study are studies on visual culture and visual search engines published in international peer-reviewed journals. Analysis of digital behavior and visual culture in a networked society is described as a research topic in previous research results. The conclusions drawn indicate that there is still a relatively deep and broad analysis of the study of visual culture when using digital communication media. There are few research studies on visual culture and digital activities in connected communities, especially people's visual information search behavior.

Abstract:
It has been proven that the rapid development of modern information and communication technologies, particularly visual media technologies, has drastically altered the cultural landscape of contemporary society. These technologies have created new opportunities for the exchange of information and cultural values, while simultaneously generating a range of socio-psychological problems. Contemporary society functions in an environment where visual images have become the primary means of communication. The influence of the so-called “visual turn” in culture, which began in the second half of the 20th century, continues to grow today. As a result, new forms of visual communication have emerged, becoming dominant in the media space, which necessitates a reconsideration of traditional approaches to cultural analysis. It is revealed that network technologies, such as social media, video platforms, and digital media, significantly affect people’s behavior, their perception of the world, and the formation of cultural values. Social platforms, particularly Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, have become key tools for the creation and dissemination of visual content, which actively influences cultural practices and social processes. This leads to changes in how people interact with information, consume it, and form their perceptions of reality. Positive aspects of this process include access to a wide range of information and cultural products. However, alongside the positive outcomes, phenomena such as information overload and content fragmentation present new challenges for the comprehension and structuring of information. It has been found that contemporary culture, based on visual images, requires new forms of critical analysis, as visual media significantly alters the perception of reality and social norms. Images that are widely disseminated through media platforms are capable of shaping social stereotypes that influence both individual and collective identities. This demands the development of new approaches to studying visual culture and its impact on society. For instance, research shows that the fragmentation of visual forms and their constant renewal complicate the formation of a unified and coherent understanding of culture and social processes.

Abstract:
Relevance. The relevance of the problem under study lies in the widespread occurrence of the issue of forming information culture among adolescents with visual impairments within the context of modern education. In addition, there is a need to develop methods and means for cultivating cultural awareness within the informational sphere. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to methodically and theoretically substantiate and experimentally test the formation of information culture in adolescents with visual impairments. Methodology. The primary focus of the study was on the application of empirical methods, specifically the method of experimental work, which consisted of surveying students and teachers from republican schools for children with disabilities. Moreover, methods for implementing tools to foster information culture among adolescents were proposed. Results. The main results consist of examining both psychological and pedagogical aspects of organising education for adolescents with visual impairments. The problem of pedagogical characteristics in diagnosing children with visual impairments was addressed, analysing the cognitive activity of children, and exploring the specificities of organising collaborative and effective work and education for visually impaired teenagers in interaction with their peers without visual impairments. The specifics of forming information culture among students with visual impairments in the information environment were also revealed. Based on this, a technology for implementing methods of socialisation for students with limited abilities into the educational process was determined. Conclusions. The study concluded that methodical and theoretical substantiation, combined with experimental testing, is essential for effectively forming information culture in adolescents with visual impairments. The research highlighted the importance of understanding the psychological and pedagogical aspects of education for these students, emphasizing the need for specific strategies to enhance their cognitive activities and social interactions. The developed methods offer practical value for educators, providing a foundation for integrating socialization technologies into the educational process for students with visual impairments. Abstract:
Over the course of the twentieth century, American planners deployed an array of visual techniques to analyze, represent, and promote the American city. Early planners looked to maps of poverty, disease, ethnicity, war, and land use, as well as archaeology, world’s fairs, and the photography of social reform. They became adept at combining drawings, diagrams, and charts to map information and make visual arguments for urban transformation. These techniques were tools of cultural critique and anticipation that shaped American understandings and expectations of cities. This essay surveys the imagery of urban planning as a prompt to historians to pay close attention to the visual culture of urban planning.

Abstract:
The object of research in the present work is the issue of the coexistence of the book and the visual cultures. Contemporary culture, having become informational, has transformed into a society of visual culture. The phenomenon of visual culture of post-industrial society is examined as a specific type of information and as a process. The processes of virtualization of life are becoming the distinctive feature of contemporary informational technologies. Information in the present era is exerting its influence on the user of technologies to a much greater degree as it was the case earlier. But the author does not agree with the negative evaluation of visualization as a replication of the set model of communication which impoverishes human thought. The reasons for this intellectual impoverishment and the lowering of the overall cultural level of the consumer have not been incited by art works of visual culture. These processes are conditioned by the specificity of contemporary mass culture which forms the “midrange” personality. Descriptions and comparisons are given of the model of the sociocultural mechanism of informational impact of art works pertaining to visual and book culture. The attempt is made to answer the question of whether visual culture possesses a systematic predominating status, or whether it must be examined as one of the directions of culture of the informational society. The conclusion is reached about the prospects of coexistence and interpenetration of the visual and the book culture with each other.

Abstract:
Through a specific example, this paper explores the problems of empiricism and ideology in the uses of material-cultural and visual evidence for the writing of ancient history. The focus is on an Athenian documentary stele with a fine relief from the late fifth century bc, the history of its publications, and their failure to account for the totality of the object's information—sculptural and epigraphic—let alone the range of rhetorical ambiguities that its texts and images implied in their fifth-century context. While the paper reflects on the Samos Stele (the meanings of the dexiosis of the figures represented, and the repeated references to the “goodness” of the Samians with respect to the Athenians, for instance), it also considers the broader hermeneutic problems of approaching the different discourses ofword and imagewithin antiquity andworries about the distortions introduced into ancient history by modern formulations, descriptions, and translations of the past.

Abstract:
The article discusses the development of visual competence among professionals in the artistic field. It explains that changes in visual information depend on cultural and historical context, linking social experience with individual visual culture and impacting the requirements for working with visual information. It is emphasised that visual culture is a psychological phenomenon associated with finding meaning in the visual information flow that occurs in space and time. An innovative approach in the field of visual culture involves conceptualizing reality through visual imagery, allowing the visual image to become timeless and open to multiple interpretations. The development of visual culture reflects a dynamic multi-level system, with different stages characterised by varying depth and breadth of mastered visuality in a professional setting. This process is defined by literacy, competence, and culture. The text also clarifies the approach to determining the structure of visual competence in different countries. It outlines the unique characteristics of professional activity and defines visual culture and visual competence for professionals in the artistic field. The continuous need for ongoing visual practice influences the development of visual skills for artistic professionals. The acquisition of visual experience, and the understanding of cultural changes and symbolic content. Valuable methods for developing visual competence among future artistic professionals include the professional creativity of teachers and various artistic practices within and outside the educational institution.

Lao, Junpeng. "Tracking the temporal dynamics of cultural perceptual diversity in visual information processing." Thesis, University of Glasgow, 2014. http://theses.gla.ac.uk/5055/.

Abstract:
Human perception and cognition processing are not universal. Culture and experience markedly modulate visual information sampling in humans. Cross-cultural studies comparing between Western Caucasians (WCs) and East Asians (EAs) have shown cultural differences in behaviour and neural activities in regarding to perception and cognition. Particularly, a number of studies suggest a local perceptual bias for Westerners (WCs) and a global bias for Easterners (EAs): WCs perceive most efficiently the salient information in the focal object; as a contrast EAs are biased toward the information in the background. Such visual processing bias has been observed in a wide range of tasks and stimuli. However, the underlying neural mechanisms of such perceptual tunings, especially the temporal dynamic of different information coding, have yet to be clarified. Here, in the first two experiments I focus on the perceptual function of the diverse eye movement strategies between WCs and EAs. Human observers engage in different eye movement strategies to gather facial information: WCs preferentially fixate on the eyes and mouth, whereas EAs allocate their gaze relatively more on the center of the face. By employing a fixational eye movement paradigm in Study 1 and electroencephalographic (EEG) recording in study 2, the results confirm the cultural differences in spatial-frequency information tuning and suggest the different perceptual functions of preferred eye movement pattern as a function of culture. The third study makes use of EEG adaptation and hierarchical visual stimulus to access the cultural tuning in global/local processing. Culture diversity driven by selective attention is revealed in the early sensory stage. The results here together showed the temporal dynamic of cultural perceptual diversity. Cultural distinctions in the early time course are driven by selective attention to global information in EAs, whereas late effects are modulated by detail processing of local information in WC observers.

Abstract:
My thesis discusses whether culture can be used to predict visual design preferences in documentation and whether cultures with similar attributes demonstrate similar visual design preferences. The visual design of a document is an important element in effective communication to an audience. If the audience is outside the United States, it is important to understand the attributes of that culture to create documents that are most effective for the audience. Cultural theorist Geert Hofstede describes cultural attributes in terms of six cultural dimensions: individualism versus collectivism, high versus low power distance, high versus low uncertainty avoidance, masculinity versus femininity, long-term versus short-term orientation, and indulgence versus restraint. This thesis explores whether we can identify visual design preferences in high uncertainty avoidance cultures and high power distance cultures, such as Spain and Latin American countries. To explore this topic, a study was done on sample report documents from a single company which operates in the United States, Latin America and Spain. Choosing only one company to collect samples from provided a way of discounting different corporate cultures as an influence on standards, tools and how documents are developed. As a framework for comparison of the documents, Kostelnick's visual design matrix was used to analyze the documents for graphics, data displays, document unifiers, decoding devices, and cuing devices. The results show that some elements of visual design can be predicted by cultural attribute, and there is a correlation between different cultures and their preference for similar design elements. For U.S. technical communicators working on documents for Latin American and Spanish audiences, documents need to be shorter in length with simple data displays and need to use more cuing devices to be effective for audiences in these cultures.; This study also shows that for technical communicators designing documents for audiences in other cultures, studying the audience and the specific attributes of that culture will provide direction on how to design an effective technical document for that audience.<br>ID: 029810073; System requirements: World Wide Web browser and PDF reader.; Mode of access: World Wide Web.; Thesis (M.A.)--University of Central Florida, 2011.; Includes bibliographical references (p. 81-83).<br>M.A.<br>Masters<br>English<br>Arts and Humanities

Abstract:
The aim of this master’s thesis is to examine how social media, specifically Instagram, is utilized in three special collections libraries in Sweden. The intent is to understand why Instagram is a plausible platform for the purpose of showcasing the libraries’ cultural heritage collections, how this is done and who the target audience is. The theoretical framework for this study is based on Roland Barthes’s visual semiotic terms denotation and connotation. The study also applies Lorri Mon’s analytical tools when examining how libraries can use social media in a successful manner. The three selected libraries are Uppsala University Library, Lund University Library and Roggebiblioteket. Six Instagram posts, between October 2018 and Mars 2019, from each library are analyzed, and e-mail interviews have been conducted with the librarians behind the accounts. Finally, the results are compared to showcase their differences and similarities, but also to compare them to previous studies on social media use in libraries. The results show that Instagram is used to display the libraries’ cultural heritage and make the collections more approachable to the general public – specifically to foreign researchers. The librarians also use Instagram as a platform to connect with other cultural heritage institutions and librarians all over the world. Through publishing esthetically pleasing pictures of old historical books, maps and other materials, they want to attract new users and put their library on the map. This is a two years master’s thesis in Library and Information Science.

Abstract:
In this research, a visual communication problem was found in the Ache restaurant, where the lack of graphic elements that could identify the Nikkei cuisine restaurant from its cultural dimension was identified. Abstract:
With the rapid advancement of mobile internet technology, tourism applications have become a crucial means for tourists to explore and learn about tourist attractions. This paper focuses on the use of visual culture in tourism apps, aiming to explore the employment and categorization of visual culture in the design of excellent tourism applications. By comparing two applications—"Forbidden City 365" and "Great Wall 24 Hours"—this study analyzes how visual culture is presented on digital platforms and promoted based on the features of the respective tourist attractions. The Forbidden City and the Great Wall, as represented by the "Forbidden City 365" and "Great Wall 24 Hours" apps, are both World Cultural Heritage sites with rich cultural connotations and distinctive features. Their visual culture is highly representative, making these two tourism apps ideal subjects for comparative analysis in this research. By examining the design elements, images, color schemes, symbols, and cultural significances in both apps, this paper provides a comprehensive evaluation of the use of visual culture. Analysis of the main pages includes investigating the frequency of design elements, colors, images, and cultural symbols used, alongside collecting user feedback from app store reviews to understand user responses and experiences with the app designs.By comparing the design concepts, cultural conveyance, and user experiences of "Forbidden City 365" and "Great Wall 24 Hours," this study explores the differences in design elements, color schemes, cultural symbols, and user feedback dimensions. It reveals how visual culture influences user experience and perception in these apps. Results indicate that visual culture plays a significant role in user interaction with applications and their understanding of tourist attractions. These visual cultures are not merely decorative but serve as carriers of cultural meaning and identity, enriching the user experience by providing deeper cultural insights. This suggests that the effective use of visual culture can significantly enhance the informational and emotional appeal of tourism applications.Additionally, this study emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate visual cultures corresponding to the tourist attractions when designing tourism apps. By reflecting the unique cultural characteristics of the sites, app designers can create more attractive and meaningful user experiences. The comparative analysis offers valuable insights into how different cultural narratives are visually presented, providing a framework for future research in this field. To summarize, this paper highlights the potential of visual culture in enhancing the communication and aesthetic quality of tourism applications. As mobile technology continues to advance, the integration of these symbols into app design will become increasingly important in promoting cultural tourism. This research offers practical recommendations for app designers and developers to create more immersive and culturally resonant tourism experiences. By focusing on the expression of the unique visual culture of tourist attractions, tourism apps can serve not only as informational tools but also as gateways to deeper cultural appreciation and understanding.

Особую актуальность данная тема приобретает при подготовке учителей в педагогических вузах. modern culture is characterized by an ever-growing stream of visual information. Visual literacy will allow not only to understand it, but also to effectively create and use images in communication, considering the cultural context, to establish harmony between visual perception and discursive thinking. Visual literacy also teaches resilience to media manipulation. This topic is particularly relevant in the preparation of teachers in pedagogical universities.

Abstract:
&lt;p&gt;The aim of this article is to find a common platform between builders/designers of bridges and creators/consumers of culture, in order to present this very important industry and its influence on nature and society, considering the meeting in mental and sensual space, which has a visual message similar in structure to the bridge. For a modern man, surrounded by dynamic and multifaceted visual environment, living between digital information overload and material messages without narrative translation is a significant perceptual challenge. To face this challenge, it would be helpful to analyse the structure of surrounding iconography. Our cognitive imperative defines the level of our awareness and responsibility for the place we live in. We must co-create it. This requires us to recognise the expectations of recipients. The ability to recognise is an inexhaustible depository of knowledge about the cultural and national identity, about the entire European civilization and world heritage, as well as about mechanisms of aggregation and connecting different values: results of activities arising from the culture-rooted need to seek the truth, the meaning of our deeds and civilizational discourses that mix together in the public space. We are dealing with an inexhaustible collection of information - cultural codes, important in cognitive, interpretation processes and in developing new meanings. [2] Cultural codes in the construction industry are assigned with an equivalent of complementary values, such as: wisdom, operational logic, durability, wealth. They are carriers of positive action and a constructive visual communication in terms of form and function, resulting in a clear concise message with a wide range of references to the bridge: connecting river banks, people, creating communication across boundaries. The presence of the code is common on multiple levels of social interaction&lt;/p&gt;

Full text
Abstract:
The problematic relationship between communication technologies and information is among the essential discussion topics of the academy. Concepts such as information bombardment, disinformation, and misinformation refer to incorrect, distorted, and corrupt information disseminated by means of communication. Unhealthy information and knowledge are seen as the biggest obstacle to the formation of a healthy public opinion. In the Covid 19 epidemic, which affects the whole world, the relationship between communication tools and information has come to the fore again. An "infodemic," which can be defined as "false, distorted information epidemic/pandemic," describes the truly distant information flowing to the public about the Covid 19 pandemic through different communication tools. On the other hand, today, visual images have become the most crucial source in disseminating information and the production of meaning. With digitalization, our daily life is shaped by an image-filled culture surrounded by artificial visuals more than ever before. The curiosity of this work is "How is infodemic produced through visual images?" It is based on the question. For this purpose, Twitter has been chosen as the research universe of important social networking sites. The study showed how the infodemia spread about Covid 19 vaccine in Turkey was produced visually on Twitter and analyzed with content analysis. The critical visual literacy method proposed by Douglas Kellner was adopted for analysis. In line with the suggestion of Kellner, the political, ideological, religious, and so on semantic load has been tried to be interpreted.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract. The article clarifies specific concepts of persuasion in media texts; describes new techniques of media influence based on materials of online publications; shows the role of expressive means of language and emotions in visual communication. In social communication, persuasive logos refer to meaningful words and thoughts conveyed through mass media and logically perceived as a reasonable persuasion to proper actions based on the principles of morality, ethics, and culture; informational and influential accents. In modern science (Philosophy, Psychology, Rhetoric, Linguistics), logos has acquired not only new meanings, but also has become an important concept of rational expression of free ideas, meanings, reflections. From this perspective, new media serve as the most concentrated source of logosphere and eidosphere creation, which should be thoroughly studied and analyzed every day. The research on multimedia texts, genre diversity, new platforms, and online publications has significantly contributed to the Media Studies. Techniques of persuasive communication, methods of argumentation, and verbal tools form a separate area of the research within the field. Unlike manipulation, persuasion is the conscious use of written or spoken language, interactive visualization, and infographics to influence someone’s beliefs, views, or actions; gain someone’s support, approve the suggested ways of behavior, intentions, etc. Means of persuasion in media texts serve as logical information accents aimed at the proper perception of the corresponding meanings. In general, factors of persuasion are to influence the masses and the motivation of their actions, modify views, and form public opinion. In journalism, these are meaningful words, thoughts, principles of high-quality narrative with the use of convincing arguments, facts and, most importantly, positive intentions for the readers. Persuasive media texts exclude manipulation of public opinion, trust and people’s inclination to perceive doctrines imposed on them. Keywords: persuasion, concept, visual information, social communication.

Abstract:
Bendigo, where the traditional owners are the Dja Dja Wurrung people, has capitalised on its European historical roots. Its striking architecture owes much to its Gold Rush past which has also given it a diverse cultural heritage. The creative industries, while not well recognised as such, contribute well to the local economy. The many festivals, museums and library exhibitions attract visitors from the metropolitan centre of Victoria especially. The Bendigo Creative Industries Hub was a local council initiative while the Ulumbarra Theatre is located within the City’s 1860’s Sandhurst Gaol. Many festivals keep the city culturally active and are supported by organisations such as Bendigo Bank. The Bendigo Writers Festival, the Bendigo Queer Film Festival, The Bendigo Invention &amp; Innovation Festival, Groovin the Moo and the Bendigo Blues and Roots Music Festival are well established within the community. A regional accelerator and Tech School at La Trobe University are touted as models for other regional Victorian cities. The city has a range of high quality design agencies, while the software and digital content sector is growing with embeddeds working in agriculture and information management systems. Employment in Film, TV and Radio and Visual Arts has remained steady in Bendigo for a decade while the Music and Performing Arts sector grew quite well over the same period.
