Abstract:
This article describes scientific discoveries that drive the phenomenon of visual cultural communication media in networked societies. Many types of research on visual culture have focused more on visual arts and mass media. However, few have yet addressed the problem of people's digital activities in searching for visual information on the Internet ( Visual search engine as a resource for visual data mining The amount of digital information, including visual information, is increasing exponentially. This research uses a literature study method with a qualitative approach. The primary data used in this study are studies on visual culture and visual search engines published in international peer-reviewed journals. Analysis of digital behavior and visual culture in a networked society is described as a research topic in previous research results. The conclusions drawn indicate that there is still a relatively deep and broad analysis of the study of visual culture when using digital communication media. There are few research studies on visual culture and digital activities in connected communities, especially people's visual information search behavior.

Abstract:
It has been proven that the rapid development of modern information and communication technologies, particularly visual media technologies, has drastically altered the cultural landscape of contemporary society. These technologies have created new opportunities for the exchange of information and cultural values, while simultaneously generating a range of socio-psychological problems. Contemporary society functions in an environment where visual images have become the primary means of communication. The influence of the so-called “visual turn” in culture, which began in the second half of the 20th century, continues to grow today. As a result, new forms of visual communication have emerged, becoming dominant in the media space, which necessitates a reconsideration of traditional approaches to cultural analysis. It is revealed that network technologies, such as social media, video platforms, and digital media, significantly affect people’s behavior, their perception of the world, and the formation of cultural values. Social platforms, particularly Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, have become key tools for the creation and dissemination of visual content, which actively influences cultural practices and social processes. This leads to changes in how people interact with information, consume it, and form their perceptions of reality. Positive aspects of this process include access to a wide range of information and cultural products. However, alongside the positive outcomes, phenomena such as information overload and content fragmentation present new challenges for the comprehension and structuring of information. It has been found that contemporary culture, based on visual images, requires new forms of critical analysis, as visual media significantly alters the perception of reality and social norms. Images that are widely disseminated through media platforms are capable of shaping social stereotypes that influence both individual and collective identities. This demands the development of new approaches to studying visual culture and its impact on society. For instance, research shows that the fragmentation of visual forms and their constant renewal complicate the formation of a unified and coherent understanding of culture and social processes.

Abstract:
Relevance. The relevance of the problem under study lies in the widespread occurrence of the issue of forming information culture among adolescents with visual impairments within the context of modern education. In addition, there is a need to develop methods and means for cultivating cultural awareness within the informational sphere. Purpose. The purpose of this study is to methodically and theoretically substantiate and experimentally test the formation of information culture in adolescents with visual impairments. Methodology. The primary focus of the study was on the application of empirical methods, specifically the method of experimental work, which consisted of surveying students and teachers from republican schools for children with disabilities. Moreover, methods for implementing tools to foster information culture among adolescents were proposed. Results. The main results consist of examining both psychological and pedagogical aspects of organising education for adolescents with visual impairments. The problem of pedagogical characteristics in diagnosing children with visual impairments was addressed, analysing the cognitive activity of children, and exploring the specificities of organising collaborative and effective work and education for visually impaired teenagers in interaction with their peers without visual impairments. The specifics of forming information culture among students with visual impairments in the information environment were also revealed. Based on this, a technology for implementing methods of socialisation for students with limited abilities into the educational process was determined. Conclusions. The study concluded that methodical and theoretical substantiation, combined with experimental testing, is essential for effectively forming information culture in adolescents with visual impairments. The research highlighted the importance of understanding the psychological and pedagogical aspects of education for these students, emphasizing the need for specific strategies to enhance their cognitive activities and social interactions. The developed methods offer practical value for educators, providing a foundation for integrating socialization technologies into the educational process for students with visual impairments. Abstract:
Over the course of the twentieth century, American planners deployed an array of visual techniques to analyze, represent, and promote the American city. Early planners looked to maps of poverty, disease, ethnicity, war, and land use, as well as archaeology, world’s fairs, and the photography of social reform. They became adept at combining drawings, diagrams, and charts to map information and make visual arguments for urban transformation. These techniques were tools of cultural critique and anticipation that shaped American understandings and expectations of cities. This essay surveys the imagery of urban planning as a prompt to historians to pay close attention to the visual culture of urban planning.

Abstract:
The object of research in the present work is the issue of the coexistence of the book and the visual cultures. Contemporary culture, having become informational, has transformed into a society of visual culture. The phenomenon of visual culture of post-industrial society is examined as a specific type of information and as a process. The processes of virtualization of life are becoming the distinctive feature of contemporary informational technologies. Information in the present era is exerting its influence on the user of technologies to a much greater degree as it was the case earlier. But the author does not agree with the negative evaluation of visualization as a replication of the set model of communication which impoverishes human thought. The reasons for this intellectual impoverishment and the lowering of the overall cultural level of the consumer have not been incited by art works of visual culture. These processes are conditioned by the specificity of contemporary mass culture which forms the “midrange” personality. Descriptions and comparisons are given of the model of the sociocultural mechanism of informational impact of art works pertaining to visual and book culture. The attempt is made to answer the question of whether visual culture possesses a systematic predominating status, or whether it must be examined as one of the directions of culture of the informational society. The conclusion is reached about the prospects of coexistence and interpenetration of the visual and the book culture with each other.

Through a specific example, this paper explores the problems of empiricism and ideology in the uses of material-cultural and visual evidence for the writing of ancient history. The focus is on an Athenian documentary stele with a fine relief from the late fifth century bc, the history of its publications, and their failure to account for the totality of the object's information—sculptural and epigraphic—let alone the range of rhetorical ambiguities that its texts and images implied in their fifth-century context. While the paper reflects on the Samos Stele (the meanings of the dexiosis of the figures represented, and the repeated references to the “goodness” of the Samians with respect to the Athenians, for instance), it also considers the broader hermeneutic problems of approaching the different discourses ofword and imagewithin antiquity andworries about the distortions introduced into ancient history by modern formulations, descriptions, and translations of the past.

This article offers the premises for an analytical reflection on how we look at images today, while questioning the role they have in our understanding of contemporary culture. We will discuss different visual culture aspects based on relevant case studies from advertising, branding, journalism, and art, arguing that the image is prevalent in today’s media culture, with our perception shaped by its structural lecturing rules (in the detriment of other content formats). Since contemporary culture is constantly and arbitrarily build on a subjective and consciousness perspective, we are witnessing on the cultural identity definition of our existence through image-reading patterns, text-looking solutions, and video-lecturing directions, as a multimodal subjective information-processing reaction to the spectacle of this intense digitalization of the society.

Visual rhetorics is not limited to socio-communicative connections, for example, a text and illustration, and, accordingly, a reader/viewer. Visual rhetorics is aimed at examining the process of formation of a visual object in time and space, as well as the prospects for studying visual information — the value of the integrity of the object and the hierarchy of its components. Visual rhetoric is based on mnemonic reception - artists and its viewers combine memory and imagination. A person of such a culture can rightly be called homo rhetoricus. Visual rhetorics, it must be understood, is not only related to fine arts or architecture. It is no coincidence that at present the rhetorics of culture is also developing widely, which can be described as the following entymema: art is rhetorical, since it falls within the scope of the culture of homo rhetoricus.

Chen, Peiyao, Ashley Chung-Fat-Yim, and Viorica Marian. "Cultural Experience Influences Multisensory Emotion Perception in Bilinguals." Languages 7, no. 1 (2022): 12. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/languages7010012.

Full text
Abstract:
Emotion perception frequently involves the integration of visual and auditory information. During multisensory emotion perception, the attention devoted to each modality can be measured by calculating the difference between trials in which the facial expression and speech input exhibit the same emotion (congruent) and trials in which the facial expression and speech input exhibit different emotions (incongruent) to determine the modality that has the strongest influence. Previous cross-cultural studies have found that individuals from Western cultures are more distracted by information in the visual modality (i.e., visual interference), whereas individuals from Eastern cultures are more distracted by information in the auditory modality (i.e., auditory interference). These results suggest that culture shapes modality interference in multisensory emotion perception. It is unclear, however, how emotion perception is influenced by cultural immersion and exposure due to migration to a new country with distinct social norms. In the present study, we investigated how the amount of daily exposure to a new culture and the length of immersion impact multisensory emotion perception in Chinese-English bilinguals who moved from China to the United States. In an emotion recognition task, participants viewed facial expressions and heard emotional but meaningless speech either from their previous Eastern culture (i.e., Asian face-Mandarin speech) or from their new Western culture (i.e., Caucasian face-English speech) and were asked to identify the emotion from either the face or voice, while ignoring the other modality. Analyses of daily cultural exposure revealed that bilinguals with low daily exposure to the U.S. culture experienced greater interference from the auditory modality, whereas bilinguals with high daily exposure to the U.S. culture experienced greater interference from the visual modality. These results demonstrate that everyday exposure to new cultural norms increases the likelihood of showing a modality interference pattern that is more common in the new culture. Analyses of immersion duration revealed that bilinguals who spent more time in the United States were equally distracted by faces and voices, whereas bilinguals who spent less time in the United States experienced greater visual interference when evaluating emotional information from the West, possibly due to over-compensation when evaluating emotional information from the less familiar culture. These findings suggest that the amount of daily exposure to a new culture and length of cultural immersion influence multisensory emotion perception in bilingual immigrants. While increased daily exposure to the new culture aids with the adaptation to new cultural norms, increased length of cultural immersion leads to similar patterns in modality interference between the old and new cultures. We conclude that cultural experience shapes the way we perceive and evaluate the emotions of others.

Abstract:
The African material culture network—if indeed one can posit a network—is multidimensional, consisting of scholars, objects, and information. The linkage between scholars and objects of material culture that are the focus of their study is information, in particular, the ways in which that information is collected, codified, and communicated. Documentation is the process that generates and orders the information about objects, relates objects one to another, and channels appropriate information into scholarly inquiry. The primary network is one of people: the scholars who are engaged in the study of the object—the mask, the ritual vessel, the woven textile, the dwelling. Information about the object; its use and function; its esthetic and formal qualities; the technique of its manufacture; and its social, economic, and historical context comes from many sources: from examination of the object itself; from contextual, collection, and associated data, including oral data; and from the published literature, unpublished written records, and visual images. These three kinds of data, in turn, constitute secondary networks: information which is generated, processed, and utilized by scholars or other specialists (curators, librarians, archivists, bibliographers). These secondary networks correlate roughly to the institutional settings of museums, archives, and libraries. Information does not exist in a vacuum; it serves a purpose, even if one not always apparent. Thus, the process of creating and manipulating information about African material culture objects, or simply documentation, has as its goal to match in perfect overlay the information about objects with scholarly inquiry.

Abstract:
The subject of this study is on information design and data visualisation. The aim of research is to understand perspectives of visual design in improving critical visual literacy. The objective of study is to identify various perspectives towards critical visual literacy among audiences who have access to print publications, but who are increasingly migrating to digital media platforms. In the overview of literature, this paper will be reviewing a wide range of scholarly works from authors who have effectively identified the role of data visualisation in audiences’ use of print and digital media to extract information. A mixed-methods approach is utilised for research methodology. The first method is a case study of a century-old natural science publication. German biologist Ernst Haeckel’s 1904 double volume of lithographic prints, Art Forms in Nature, will be critically discussed. The second method presents the results of a survey of Malaysian audiences’ attitudes and perceptions towards visual information, and the key factors that foster and hinder information extraction and medium use, specifically aspects of convenience and layout design. Respondents were also queried on the functionality and importance of digital media for the purpose of knowledge, research and information gathering. Analysis of survey findings show that there is still a limited scope of understanding audiences’ challenges with both lexical (reading) and visual literacies. This dilemma is essential for visual designers to acknowledge, in the context of mapping the functions of data visualisation for designing information in publications. Among commercial publishers, particularly those in digital publication sectors, the current impact of digital visual culture on traditional print publication suggests that this dilemma must be further studied to understand future implications of data visualisation and visual design on audiences seeking knowledge and information. Some recommendations will be provided.

Abstract:
With the rise of the national trend, more and more clothing brands have begun to incorporate traditional cultural elements to enhance their brand characteristics and cultural connotations. Chinese traditional dress culture has a long history and carries a long historical heritage and rich cultural connotation, and occupies an important position in Chinese cultural tradition. Visual communication design is a design field that conveys information and expresses meaning through visual elements such as images, colors, words, and layouts. The study aims to explore the application of visual communication design based on traditional culture in the design of national fashion clothing and its relevance in the field of information systems engineering and management. By analyzing the importance and influence of traditional cultural elements in fashion design, this paper delves into how information systems can facilitate the effective integration and application of these elements. First, the paper reviews the role of traditional culture as an inspiration for fashion design and explores the role of information systems in data collection, analysis, and management. This study proposes a visual communication design method based on traditional culture through a review of relevant literature and empirical research, and through interviews and surveys. Combined with example analyses and case studies, this study demonstrates how information systems can support the need for innovation and personalization in the design of national-trend clothing. Finally, by evaluating the effectiveness of information systems in cultural visual communication design, future research and management suggestions are proposed to enhance information systems engineering and management.

Abstract:
This text focuses on the dominant visual culture current policies, its relationship with the market and the partnership of this relationship with art. Information (visual) that indicates the actions of storing and disseminating information is a traditional form of activity that all cultures frequently resort to through art, from the first ages to the present. Because it is known that the functionality of the image is encountered even in cave painting in the history of civilization and the first data are these paintings built with communicative concern. Nevertheless, the real (purposeful) informatic image emerges in church murals in medieval Christian Europe. These (communicative) images, which emerge as an activity of the dominant system to convey itself, are informatic messages in terms of the meaning they are loaded. Accordingly, the image is always communicative between culture, market, system and individual. With this aspect, image is a type of information that enters the field of visual culture and turns into a kind of communication opportunity and it is clear that this has a transdisciplinary feature. As it can be understood, from the depths of civilization history to the present, visuality is a part of the activity of directing/managing the masses. It is also obvious that these possibilities have changed according to the visual culture instruments of the age. Like defined above, the individual interacting with the system according to the needs of the age is under the control of cultural relations networks. In this context, McLuhan pays attention in her text Medium is the Messages that the social structure came under the control of the media in the 1960s. Today, it can be said that this situation is beyond what the author claims and that the age of visual culture we live in has absorbed all the components from art to design, from artist to designer, from individual to society, into the system. Thus, a universe picture emerged in which almost all cultural productions turn into fictions that are blessed/glorified in terms of being art and/or design; in this universe built in the possibility of visual culture, visuality, which has a transdisciplinary character, has turned into a kind of communication opportunity.

Abstract:
In light of technological advancement and formation of new visual culture, there arises a vital problem of visual presentation of information for solving new problems and performing a wider range of functions in education. In this regard, visualization should be considered in context of such megatrends as the Prosumer concept, knowledge management, the use of platform services to present information as a single unity. Cognitive visualization as the basis for visual presentation of educational information is represented by five main tendencies which students should take into consideration creating infographics: concentration and generalization of knowledge, expansion of the orientation and presentation functions of visual aids, algorithmization of educational and cognitive actions by visual means, and multicode presentation of information. Experimental training resulted in establishing connections between these megatrends and the cognitive visualization tendencies; besides it revealed that concentration of knowledge and multicode presentation of information were the most difficult information visualization operations for the students when using platform services for creating visual content.

Abstract:
The quantitative and qualitative leap in the production and perception of visual information prompts many researchers to describe modern culture as visual. The emergence of the technical ability to create, copy and distribute visual images has led to important sociocultural changes. That has affected such a realm of the visual as the archaeological museum. It has lost its monopoly on the presentation of historical artifacts and has been forced to compete with the mass media for the viewers. On the other hand, it has significantly expanded the technical tools for studying and exhibiting its collections. At the same time, there are concerns that the museum may lose its uniqueness under the pressure of visual culture and drown in a sea of attractions. The use of visual technologies at the exposition could not contribute to the actualization of the heritage, but, on the contrary, lead to its devaluation. This article is an attempt to analyze the correlation between the challenges that visual culture poses to the archaeological museum and the opportunities that it provides.

Abstract:
The role of visual research methods in ethnographic research has been significant, particularly in place-making and representing visual culture and environments in ways that are not easily substituted by text. Digital media has extended into mundane, everyday existences and routines through most noticeably the modern smartphone, social media and digital artefacts that have created new forms of ethnographic enquiry. Ethnographers have engaged in this relatively new possibility of exploring how social media and new technologies transform the way we view social realities through the digital experience. The paper discusses the possible role of visual research methods in multimethod research and the theoretical underpinning of interpreting visual data. In the process of interpreting and analysing visual data, there is a need to acknowledge the possible ambiguity and polysemic quality of visual representation. It presents selectively the use of visual methods in an ethnographic exploration of early childhood settings through the use of internet-based visual data, researcher and participant-generated visual materials and media, together with visual-elicited (e.g. drawings, still images, video clips) information data through several examples. This approach in ‘visualizing’ the curriculum also unveils some aspects of the visual culture or the ‘hidden curriculum’ in the learning environment.

Abstract:
The acceleration of technological innovations and digitalization necessitates a profound theoretical understanding of the transformation of information culture within the knowledge society. Purpose: This article analyzes the interplay between the knowledge society, information culture, and technological innovations. Methods: The research is based on conceptual analysis and the synthesis of scholarly literature from related humanities and social science disciplines. Results: The analysis reveals that technology not only provides tools but fundamentally changes the practices of knowledge creation, dissemination, and interpretation, strengthening the role of visual culture and algorithmic systems. Globalization of the information space creates conditions for both unprecedented access to information and the spread of manipulation and reinforcement of the digital divide. It was established that effective navigation in this environment requires developed competencies – not only basic information literacy but also critical media and visual literacy to counter disinformation and understand media effects. Key threats to information security at individual and societal levels arising in the digital environment, including data privacy and cybersecurity issues, were investigated. The dynamics of the modern information market were outlined, particularly issues of platform monopolization and their influence on shaping public opinion. It is argued that the resilience of information culture depends on society's ability to critically comprehend technological impacts and adapt social institutions by developing mechanisms for ethical reflection and responsible technology use. Practical Value: The results will contribute to the development of educational strategies and cultural policies for fostering an adaptive and critical information culture.

Abstract:
The essay attempts to outline the issues of the visual culture of the selfie from the perspective of “visual identity” that has referred to contemporary art. In this paper, I analyze examples of the following artworks: The Reincarnation of Saint ORLAN by the French artist ORLAN, the Bodies© INCorporated website, designed by Victoria Vesna, The Little Revenge from the Periphery by José Bedia Valdés, The Chief: He Who Sold Africa to the Colonists and Autoportraits by Samuel Fosso. In addition, this paper is focused on an analysis of the “biopower” concept which refers to Michel Foucault’s “docile bodies.” This concept is based on the neoliberal power process over the production of living beings and exercising control over them is an updating of the development of political, democratic, and economic institutions, as well as information and biocybernetic technologies. The “docile bodies” concept strengthens the conviction of the bodies must become the object of biopower interventions for the “perfect body” concept to act upon the strictly defined appearance of the body consistent with the standards and norms of “beauty” adopted by visual culture. In this situation, the selfie and photographic images produce homogeneous images, which function as “ideological texts” making our “visual identity” and self-image. This concept is given a lot of considerable space in this paper because the selfie can be regarded as an “personality identity” shaping the visual appearance of our bodies. In the essay’s conclusion, I claim that the visual culture of the selfie seems to be an aesthetic phenomenon shaped by a visual medium such as digital photography. However, photography does not is the key medium of the selfie. My analyses were aimed at showing that this role plays an “image,” no matter how it can be understood.

The present research investigates the experiences of pre-service visual arts teachers in the planning and application phase of a course focusing on visual culture in the special teaching methods course. This course in Turkey provides information about how and with what type of methodologies arts-related topics should be taught in visual arts education. During the first semester, the course was conducted theoretically, and in the second semester the researcher focused on the application of these theories. In this research, visual culture is discussed as one of the special teaching methods of visual arts education. A total of five visual arts pre-service teachers were selected as participants using criterion sampling. The research used practitioner inquiry as a method and conducted during the 2017–2018 spring and 2018–2019 fall semesters, lasting 8 weeks in total. During the application process, the pre-service teachers taught their samples of course plans on visual culture that they created during their pre-service practice to the primary and secondary school students in 2 weeks of classes. The research data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, document review, and reflective notes and analyzed with descriptive methods. As a result of this research, the visual arts pre-service teachers saw the students gain a critical perspective, become more aware of issues in their daily lives, express themselves in a better way, and improve their inquiring skills with the application of a visual culture course plan. With the visual culture course plan, the pre-service teachers also gained several professional experiences and skills.

Science and technology (S&T) visuals seem remarkably alike across cultures globally. Yet, individual and cultural experiences of scientists and engineers vary before they master the tools and techniques of their disciplines, and different parts of the world have different understandings of S&T. This disparity led us to conduct a pilot study with five S&T students at New Mexico Tech. We concluded that S&T visuals vary across cultures, the variations between designs comprise a spectrum of visual-textual and textual-visual correlations, and the similarities and differences between the visuals are caused by diverse individual and contextual factors.

In recent research of culture and ethnicity in visual perception, some researchers have found support for the hypothesis that more collectivistic cultures tend to be more influenced by surrounding contextual visual information than more individualistic cultures. This hypothesis suggests that even low-level visual perception may not be universal and has great implications on how vision research should be conducted. The current study reexamines this hypothesis in the rod and frame task, which tests the influence of a tilted contextual frame on orientation perception of the rod. We found no difference between participants of East Asian and Western European descent in this task. Despite not finding the cultural effect, we found a well-reported gender effect in which women were more influenced by the tilt of the frame than men, helping to ensure the quality of the data collected. Our results suggest that contextual influence on visual perception does not affect East Asians and white Western Europeans differently.

Abstract:
The availability of nonverbal communication and perception of visual images and patterns of dance movements in the Internet space has led to active interaction between representatives of different cultures. The emergence of new digital dance practices confirms the need for new methods and approaches to the study of dance culture and its communication properties, including at the intercultural level. Modern technologies make it possible to transmit and record dance information at a new level. The Internet as a means of communication has significantly expanded the boundaries of dance interaction between representatives of different cultures, while "motion capture" technologies allow recording dance information with maximum accuracy, storing and processing patterns of different dance cultures. The article analyzes the features of the transmission and perception of information in the dance art. Within the linear and nonlinear communication models, dance can contain semantic, emotive, deictic, phatic, cognitive and other information. Viral dances, dance videos in Tik Tok, dance videos on video hosting sites represent a new level of intercultural interaction. The transmission of information through several sensory channels at once, as well as the universality of nonverbal information, ensures mutual understanding and helps to eliminate communication barriers. Thus, the application of the information approach to the consideration of dance in the space of modern culture allows to study the peculiarities of the perception and transmission of dance, including between representatives of different cultures interacting in the global information space.

Abstract Objective While the judicious use of antibiotics takes past microbiological culture results into consideration, this data’s typical format in the electronic health record (EHR) may be unwieldy when incorporated into clinical decision-making. We hypothesize that a visual representation of sensitivities may aid in their comprehension. Materials and Methods A prospective parallel unblinded randomized controlled trial was undertaken at an academic urban tertiary care center. Providers managing emergency department (ED) patients receiving antibiotics and having previous culture sensitivity testing were included. Providers were randomly selected to use standard EHR functionality or a visual representation of patients’ past culture data as they answered questions about previous sensitivities. Concordance between provider responses and past cultures was assessed using the kappa statistic. Providers were surveyed about their decision-making and the usability of the tool using Likert scales. Results 518 ED encounters were screened from 3/5/2018 to 9/30/18, with providers from 144 visits enrolled and analyzed in the intervention arm and 129 in the control arm. Providers using the visualization tool had a kappa of 0.69 (95% CI: 0.65–0.73) when asked about past culture results while the control group had a kappa of 0.16 (95% CI: 0.12–0.20). Providers using the tool expressed improved understanding of previous cultures and found the tool easy to use (P < .001). Secondary outcomes showed no differences in prescribing practices. Conclusion A visual representation of culture sensitivities improves comprehension when compared to standard text-based representations.

Abstract:
This study underscores the crucial role of seal impressions on Sino-Russian treaties, viewing the indifference of seal-created visual information as a significant defect in current treaty scholarship. This research proposes that the analysis of material seals holds equal importance to the textual examination of written articles in comprehending Sino-Russian diplomatic culture. The mandatory use of official seals for signing bilateral treaties in both the Qing and Russian Empires is deeply rooted in their unique civilizations and traditions. From this background, the political culture of these empires guided the treaty negotiators to perceive the seal impressions on treaties not only as mutual commitments to fulfilling the treaty promises but also as a non-linguistic means to engage with their respective relationship positions. As a result, both written articles and visual sigillography are invaluable as primary sources in treaty research.

Abstract:
It is demonstrated that in modern society, as in the society of the postmodern era, simulation does not lose its relevance and is increasingly penetrating into real life. It becomes more and more difficult to distinguish between a simulacrum and true information. Unfortunately, the modern consumer is less and less interested in the truthfulness of information. On the contrary, a simulation interpretation of an event, person, or any phenomenon is more interesting and more welcome. "Alice" and the world that Lewis Carroll describes, this "consciousness inside out" is becoming more and more relevant. Semiotics and, in particular, symbolism have become a narrative phenomenon. The author shows that today the desire to know the true reality, not distorted by simulation, is becoming a necessary practice, and understanding the meaning of what is happening is a condition for connection with genuine reality.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to identify the peculiarities and tendencies of the development of digital culture at the beginning of the 21st century; to define the specificity of works of art that are part of audio-visual artistic discourse and to characterize the use of modern digital technologies as a tool for their creation on the example of the audio-visual project “Virtual Colour Organ”. The research methodology is based on the use of historical and cultural method, which made it possible to study the historical dynamics of the development of digital culture. A chronological method was applied to analyse the stages of sublimation of audio and visual into a single work of audio-visual digital culture. Typological and comparative methods were also applied to study and analyse audio visual projects as phenomena and artefacts of digital culture. Scientific novelty is to identify the features of the multisensory experience of a person in the context of the evolution of digital technologies. Conclusions. Research on the specifics of audiovisual discourse in digital culture has revealed that modern audio-visual projects in digital culture are primarily about process, not result – the specifics of digital technology in this case is to focus on the creative process in various aspects of communication. The evolution of audio-visual culture is expanding to new technologies, exemplified by a variety of audio-visual projects – modern media is positioned as a means of expression that generates particular audio and visual content and specific aesthetic perception. In this context, it is stated that, as part of the digital culture, the computer is positioned as an extremely flexible and open tool for manipulating and integrating audio-visual material, and most importantly converting it to a single type of digital information.

In our assumption, YouTube has visual-ideological compatibility in presenting a number of cultural portraits whose elements and values can be listened to, identified, and internalized by the audience as something useful and valuable. Thus, there were at least two things that could be obtained from a culture broadcast on new media, namely (a) elements and values of a culture could be spread to the public and serve as useful values for life, and (b) elements and values of a culture could be maintained.

Taking the Bund area as a research case, using the methods of literature analysis and content analysis to interpret the visual images of Shanghai Bund from the pre-opening period, the concession period, to the modernization period, and explore the historical change information conveyed by the visual images and the visual image itself, The history of technological innovation. The study found that visual images, as a means of conveying content, are more intuitive than text and discourse, and the development of media with the advent of modernization makes it a faster and more convenient mode of communication. As the subject of research, the urban landscape not only conducts historical and cultural research as a visual image observed by vision but also can react to people's cultural awareness, visual cognition, and aesthetic values according to its own shape and cultural core. Therefore, urban landscape development under visual culture interacts with the means of communication based on visual images. With the advancement of the times and continuous technological innovation, it will face more challenges.

Abstract:
The study of Protestant visual culture requires a number of correctives since many scholars and Protestants themselves presume images have played no role in religious practice. This essay begins by identifying misleading assumptions, proposes the importance of a visual culture paradigm for the study of Protestantism, and then traces the history of image use among American Protestants over the course of the nineteenth century. The aim is to show how the traditional association of image and text, tasked to evangelization and education, evolved steadily toward pictorial imagery and sacred portraiture. Eventually, text was all but eliminated in these visual formats, which allowed imagery to focus on the personhood of Jesus, replacing the idea of image as information with image as formation.

It is a paradox that the most visual method for storing and disseminating information, the Internet, continues to be unsatisfactory for the practice of researching visual culture in any scholarly or even thorough way, despite its advances within other areas of inquiry.
