Full textThe overall architecture of the framework consists of the core EVolve platform that communicates with data sources via a well defined data protocol and which communicates with visualization methods via a visualization protocol.
Given a data source, an end user can use EVolve as a stand-alone tool by interactively creating, configuring and modifying one or more visualizations. A variety of visualizations are provided in the standard EVolve visualization library. EVolve can also be used to build custom visualizers by-implementing new data sources and/or new kinds of visualizations.
The thesis presents an overview of the framework, its data protocol and visualization protocol, and a detailed case study showing how to extend EVolve.

Full textCrowd visualizations are present mostly in digital games and computer animated movies, but they are also observed in simulations and virtual reality applications. In crowd simulations we should represent the behavior of agents given different scenarios, and also, such simulations can be provided by different software and tools. This document describes a framework for real time crowd visualization, which no programming knowledge and modeling skills are required from the users. Our main goal is to be able to visualize previously created crowd simulations in real time, combining rendering techniques and providing easy support for managing the scene and the virtual humans.
Visualizações de multidões estão presentes principalmente em jogos digitais e filmes de animação computadorizada. Essas visualizações também são observadas em simulações e aplicações de realidade virtual. Em modelos para simulações de multidões é preciso representar o comportamento dos agentes de acordo com os diferentes cenários, além disto, tais simulações podem ser originadas de diferentes software ou ferramentas. Esta dissertação apresenta um framework para visualização de multidões em tempo real, a qual não requer conhecimento de programação e modelagem. O principal objetivo é apresentar visualizações de simulações previamente criadas, combinando o uso de técnicas de rendering em tempo real, além de proporcionar ferramentas para gerenciar a cena e os humanos virtuais.

Full textVisuell representation av flödesscheman (eng. Control Flow Graph, CFG) är en funktion tillgänglig hos många verktyg, bland annat dekompilerare. Dessa verktyg använder sig ofta av grafritande ramverk som implementerar Sugiyamas metod för uppritning av hierarkiska grafer, vilken är en känd metod för uppritning av riktade grafer. Sugiyamas stora nackdelär att metoden inte tar hänsyn till grafens natur, loopar i synnerhet behandlas som andra klassens medborgare. Frågeställningen hos denna rapport är; Hur kan vi förbättra den visuella representationen av loopar i en graf? En metod som bygger vidare på Sugiyama-ramverket utvecklades och implementerades i Qt. Metoden testades genom att hålla informella kvalitativa intervjuer med testpersoner, vilka fick testa implementeringen och jämföra den med den vanliga Sugiyama-metoden. Resultaten visar att alla testpersonerna stämmer in på att loopar, så väl som den overskådliga representionen av grafen förbättrades, dock med vissa reservationer. Metoden som presenteras i denna rapport har vissa problem, vilka bör adresseras innan den kan ses som en optimal lösning för uppritning av flödesscheman.

This thesis describes a framework for collecting, analyzing, and visualizing dynamic data, particularly data gathered through Web questionnaires. The framework addresses challenges such as promoting user participation, handling missing or invalid data, and streamlining the data interpretation process. Tools in the framework provide an intuitive way to build robust questionnaires on the Web and perform on-the-fly analysis and visualization of results. A novel 2.5-dimensional dynamic response-distribution visualization allows subjects to compare their results against others immediately after they have submitted their response, thereby encouraging active participation in ongoing research studies. Other modules offer the capability to quickly gain insight and discover patterns in user data. The framework has been implemented in a multi-tier architecture within an open-source, Java-based platform. It is incorporated into Risk Psychology Network, a research and educational project at MIT's Laboratory for Financial Engineering.

Full texts perception. In all phases of the disaster management, decision makers come across huge data sets with spatio-temporal content. It is hard to deal with these sets in order to find answers to the main question of &ldquo
How can we decrease the losses due to disasters?&rdquo
, which is at the core of the disaster management concept. To furnish this aim, disaster risk information has to be transparent and clearly stated to the public, decision makers and disaster managers. This might be more sophisticated than the calculation of the risk. Taking precautions before a disaster to reduce the causalities and lossess engendered by natural disasters is relatively cheaper, and more importantly, better than cure. To achieve enhanced preparations for all kinds of disasters, visualization is quite an important tool for decision support and risk communication. The basic aim of this research is to propose a conceptual framework, with the consideration of all stakeholders related to the disaster management issue to have a better risk communication, and to guide the design, implementation and integration of the 3D urban modeling tools into disaster risk visualization. Moreover, an empirical methodology is also developed for the generation of visualization solutions through the design, and employment of the tool for disaster management framework. The proposed framework has three main phases .These are the definition of visualization components, object representation, and needs assessment. A new LoD hierarchy with indoor is proposed to visualize all the possible 3D urban disaster situations in the first phase. Then, a decision rule with eight attributes is proposed in the second phase to establish a link between the hazard type and the LoD needed in a 3D urban model for visualization. This decision rule is applied in a proposed three-level hierarchycal structure. The assessed objects of these three levels are urban, sub-urban zone and building. Moreover, a method to define the needed sub-urban zone is proposed. Finally, different 3D urban modelling methods are analyzed to define the data and process needs of possible 3D urban disaster visualization situations. Two natural hazard cases are studied within the scope of this dissertation to assess the operability of the proposed framework. These implementations involve one earthquake and one tsunami case. Special attention is paid to finding one specific sample for two modelling viewpoints, namely static and dynamic. The first applications of the proposed framework with all the related features prove quite promising.
