The "great health" of Nietzsche which opposes an affirmative Will to power to an energetic thought distressed by degradation. The "philosophical vitality" of Deleuze sees an intense and free life in the "Body without organs" against the cybernetic integration of interdependent organisms. Medicine protects a body which is a machine of accidents. This body is plunged in the oppressing time of wear. Its life is undermined by an omnipresent death which nibbles it and closes it. Philosophies of the "great health" think a body which is constituted through experiments. It lives in an immediate, innocent and infinite time. Full textWestern Armenian was declared “definitely endangered” in 2010, although the language is taught in private Armenian schools across a global diaspora created by a genocide in 1915. Enrollment in Armenian schools in the Middle East has been declining for four decades, while the Armenian schools of France are growing & evolving & all are facing a rapidly changing educational climate. Conducted in Beirut, Amman, Paris & Marseille, and involving participants from Aleppo, this study analyzes data from more than 100 diasporan Armenians and a dozen schools. An interdisciplinary, post-structuralist & constructivist approach is taken to understanding the roles of school policies in attracting parents to Armenian schools, in effectively transmitting the language to students, & promoting the vitality of the language in each of the four contexts. Discourse Analysis is applied to both structural & personal representations of the language & of the schools. Ethnolinguistic Vitality & Language Socialization theories are used to understand the connections between policy, parent school choice & the wider vitality of the language. Parent school choice is looked at in terms of consumer psychology, and ultimately Bourdieu’s concept of habitus is the most apt for explaining why Armenian parents choose non-Armenian schools, & why this often becomes a definitive family break from the institution. Policy above the school level is found to have less impact on vitality than school enrollment & dominant discourses on language maintenance. Recommendations are made for policies & pedagogy
Abbes, Rafik. "Filtrage et agrégation d'informations vitales relatives à des entités." Thesis, Toulouse 3, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015TOU30251/document.
Full textNowadays, knowledge bases such as Wikipedia and DBpedia are the main sources to access information on a wide variety of entities (an entity is a thing that can be distinctly identified such a person, an organization, a product, an event, etc.). However, the update of these sources with new information related to a given entity is done manually by contributors with a significant latency time particularly if that entity is not popular. A system that analyzes documents when published on the Web to filter important information about entities will probably accelerate the update of these knowledge bases. In this thesis, we are interested in filtering timely and relevant information, called vital information, concerning the entities. We aim at answering the following two issues: (1) How to detect if a document is vital (i.e., it provides timely relevant information) to an entity? and (2) How to extract vital information from these documents to build a temporal summary about the entity that can be seen as a reference for updating the corresponding knowledge base entry? Regarding the first issue, we proposed two methods. The first proposal is fully supervised. It is based on a vitality language model. The second proposal measures the freshness of temporal expressions in a document to decide its vitality. Concerning the second issue, we proposed a method that selects the sentences based on the presence of triggers words automatically retrieved from the knowledge already represented in the knowledge base (such as the description of similar entities). We carried out our experiments on the TREC Stream corpus 2013 and 2014 with 1.2 billion documents and different types of entities (persons, organizations, facilities and events). For vital documents filtering approaches, we conducted our experiments in the context of the task "knowledge Base Acceleration (KBA)" for the years 2013 and 2014. Our method based on leveraging the temporal expressions in the document obtained good results outperforming the best participant system in the task KBA 2013. In addition, we showed the importance of our generated temporal summaries to accelerate the update of knowledge bases

Full textThe estimation of time since death and the determination of wound vitality are two major issues in forensic practice. Indeed, the traditional methods used, which respectively include the assessment of cadaveric signs and standard histology, are far from being precise. Through two research studies, the individual and combined performances of candidate protein biomarkers were investigated and compared with those of the reference methods, in each specific field of research. The first study aimed at simultaneously quantifying 10 cytokines in skin samples using the Meso Scale Discovery® technology, to assess their ability to discriminate between vital and post-mortem wounds. In a second study, we explored the post-mortem changes of tau and phosphorylated tau (p-tau) levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by ELISA, to determine whether these proteins could be relevant biomarkers of the early post-mortem interval (PMI). Several candidate cytokines showed higher ability to characterize vital and early post-mortem wounds compared with standard histology, while tau protein could represent a potential CSF biomarker of the time since death, in association with tympanic body temperature. Our research suggests that integrating data from post-mortem biochemistry in forensic practice could result in a more precise determination of the early PMI and of skin wound vitality

Full textSpecificity of dentistry lies in the difficulty of exploring the histo-pathological condition of dental pulp. Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) is described in the literature as a technique for assessing the vitality corresponding to the blood perfusion of a tissue. In the first part of this work, we focused on the physical principles of LDF and the problem of pulp vitality diagnosis. Then, we showed how the clinical evaluation of the vasculature could be an effective way to affirm the presence of pulp vital tissue. In second part, after an inventory of knowledge on the LDF in the diagnosis of pulp vitality, we evaluated the system Periflux 5000 as a method of diagnosis of pulp vitality. We investigated pulpal blood flow values (PU) and moving blood cells velocity curves recorded by LDF for pulpal vitality diagnosis in general dental practice and we compared moving blood cells velocity curves to standard diagnostic tests in traumatology. Our results showed that the numerical values (PU) are not suitable for pulpal diagnosis. However, the moving blood cells velocity curves permitted to distinguish between vital and non vital teeth and are therefore likely to allow the diagnosis of vital pulp when the conventional tests of vitality indicate a non vital diagnosis

Full textTo resist the traumas of a particularly bloody conflict, the witnesses of the Civil War, soldiers or civilians, make use of a wide choice of antidotes leading to an improvement of the mood, expressed in numerous letters, diaries or memoirs. A philosophical background suggests examining in turn the joy of solace, the festive laughter of diversion, or that, more aggressive, of mockery, in the line of an evolution from simplicity to complexity, in keeping with the transformation, during that period, of a country engaged in fast-paced modernization. Theses antidotes for troubled times are rooted in myth, hedonism or satire, as an answer to existential problems. Besides transient solutions found in relief or consolation, there are more meaningful signs of the revitalization of the country. Therapies related to survival and social contact increased solidarity; action and mind activities improved education; discovery, the ironic or humoristic return to pioneer values, facilitated the definition of a national identity transcending North/South or East/West oppositions. Underrated population components, such as women and, chiefly, freed African-Americans witnessed the surge of clear progress, in spite of relentless prejudice. This study of the antidotes attempted to build a patchwork of convincing facts, marked by the reactivity, convergence, or repetitiveness of scenes and anecdotes. The recurrence of characters and the detailed expression of the context add cohesive elements to this presentation

Full textThe goal of the research work hearby presented was to explore the choro as an ensemble musical practice established all over the world, gathering chorões since the last decades of the nineteenth century, emphasizing the interaction and collaborative ambience in a continuous teaching & learning process, caracteristic of its tradition. In contrast with nowadays’tendencies, which establish almost mechanical reproductions, individual paths and experiences were examined, accessing musicians’ artistic, creative and liberating power. In order to illustrate these features, music recorded by Pixinguinha and the Batutas was transcribed, where some of the traditional performance codes can be verified, which are still cultivated by living chorões, particularly the use of ritornelli as a free and life-changing way of playing. Quality and timing of execution have proven to be actually possible only in realtime performance where people engage in a stream of narration, improvisation and overall hedonist pleasure, fruit of this creative activity which has been passed on by generations, dueto the invaluable collaborative and friendly musical interaction it promotes

Full textA founding notion and a key-word for the first-generation Romantic writers, the term "energy" is particularly meaningful in Stendhal’s writings since it underpins his ideas about human nature and history, as well as his conception of art and fine arts, his approach to ethics and politics, and also his own philosophy. Our study brings out the prominent features and underlying meaning of Stendhal’s conception of energy, which was deeply rooted in his own experience of the French Revolutions (both in 1789 and 1830). The Stendhalian representations of energy are firstly put in their historical context and described with reference to the scientific studies and anthropological theories of the first decades of the XIXth century. The second part of the thesis then deals with the political stakes of the Jacobin and counter-revolutionary meanings of the term "energy" during the same period. It also tackles the problem of energetic decline in our modern, refined and polished civilization. The third part focuses on Stendhal’s Romanticist aesthetics and poetics of energy, which were precisely meant to lessen the moral impact of such energetic decay, thus underlining how his energetic style helped him fulfil his ambition to revolutionize literature and arts
Rosés, Labrada Jorge Emilio. "The Mako language : vitality, Grammar and Classification." Thesis, Lyon 2, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015LYO20026.
Full textThis dissertation focuses on the documentation and description of Mako, an indigenous language spoken in the Venezuelan Amazon by about 1000 people and for which the only available published material at the start of the project were 38 words. The main goals of the project were to create a collection of annotated ethnographic texts and a grammar that could serve as a starting point for both language maintenance in the community and for further linguistic research. Additionally, the project sought to assess the language’s vitality in the communities where it is spoken and to understand the relationship of Mako to the two other extant Sáliban languages, namely Piaroa and Sáliba. This research has thus led to an assessment of language vitality in the Mako communities of the Ventuari River, a comprehensive description of the Mako language—heretofore undescribed—, and an evaluation of the genetic relationship between the three Sáliban languages. The description of the language covers a wide range of topics in areas such as phonetics and phonology, nominal and verbal morphology, and syntax of both simple and complex sentences. Discourse-level morphology and discourse-organization strategies are also covered. Aside from facilitating the study of other members of the Sáliban family and reconstruction of the common ancestral language, the description of Mako also contributes to the typology of Amazonian languages and to our understanding of the pre-history of this area of the Orinoco basin. The products of this project also have the potential to be mobilized in language literacy efforts in the Mako communities

Full textA project of investigation of the words composing the martinican creole may conceivably and in full legitimacy start with a record of its most "basilectal" constitutive elements, the vocabulary of traditional fishing which in the long run is threatened with disappearance. Our point is thus to raise the question of the present condition this specific vocabulary is in. Therefore our research work includes three main lines : 1. A descriptive study as well as a catalogue of the terms in use among professionals, 2. A descriptive approach of the regulative trends that are set to work within the limits of that practise, 3. An examination of the traffic of words in use among professionals as a whole

Full textAn increasing trend of forest decline is observed and is likely to increase in the current context of climate change. Remote sensing can provide innovative methods for the forest ecosystems status assessment. This thesis aims at proposing, validating and interpreting activity measurements of some Southern Massif Central and Pyrenees mountains coniferous stands. The first objective is, using of time series of medium spatial resolution (MODIS-NDVI) images, to identify methods to measure decreases of activity, and to verify if they correspond to vitality decreases in stands in which has been observed forest decline. Change detection of activity, which can be considered as disturbances, is based on two approaches: the first allows to measure differences or trends of phenology surface parameters, and the second uses a method based on the time series decomposition. Changes that occur during the 2000-2011 times-period were measured. The detection of high magnitude negative breakpoints in NDVI time series from 2003 to 2011 confirms the influence of the 2003 summer drought, which both led to decreases in activity related to trees heath status and also to clear-cuts during the following years. Before the validation process, a clear-cut detection method was proposed in order to eliminate these situations in the study areas. A validation procedure was implemented on Pyrenean fir stands. For this step, two approaches were implemented: (1) the use of spatially extensive state stands proxies, through cuts inventory inventories during the 2000-2012 times-period and a 2001 forest decline map, and (2) the use of data from direct tree heath’s observations in the fir stands of Pays de Sault region (Eastern Pyrenees) using a diagnostic method based on the observation of tree architecture (ARCHI method). For this second approach, an appropriate sampling was assessed to deal with the MODIS pixels scale (Lambert et al. 2013). Relationships have been identified, allowing to validate the used methods, but also to highlight theirs interpretation’s limits. Finally, to provide an interpretation of the observed phenomena, the remote sensing activity variations were compared to climatic and soil spatial data which are adapted to the study of forest environments. The results show that vitality declines in Pays de Sault fir stands are significantly correlated with climatic factors, temperature and to a lesser degree to precipitations. In the Central Pyrenees, where the causal factors appear to be numerous, the influence of water and soil drought conditions has not been demonstrated

Full textThis PhD thesis describes the current situation of Iaai (an Oceanic language from the Austronesian family) and provides an analysis of its dynamics. As a minority Kanak language of New Caledonia, engaged in a process of intense contact with French, Iaai is experiencing significant changes both on a linguistic and sociolinguistic aspect. This thesis adopts an approach that is both dual and complementary. On the one hand, it offers an evaluation of modern Iaai’s sociolinguistic vitality, crossing different factors from the social and ethno-linguistic context together with the high variety of speakers, typical of endangered languages. On the other hand, the analysis focuses on language change by addressing three particularly interesting themes in Iaai: (i) evolution in the system of possessive classifiers; (ii) strategies of neology and of modernization of the lexicon; (iii) the particular case of verbal borrowings. The study of these changes is based on the linguistic description of Iaai made by Françoise Ozanne-Rivierre (1976, 1984) which is compared with modern data collected during three fieldworks conducted in Ouvea since 2009, as well as through sustained collaboration with a native speaker informant in Lyon. Finally, this research highlights the intertwining of different dynamics in Iaai between modernization, obsolescence and linguistic resilience

Full textThe decline of Europe in the twentieth century is an indisputable fact. Can or should we go ahead and say that Europe, as a civilization, is doomed to decadence? Raymond Aron analyzed for more than 50 years the evolution of Europe through its various facets: idea, institutional building, feeling. He assures the crisis in Europe, as a crisis of civilization, to better fight it. Europe has a future. This is about thinking History. History is not the promise of some progress nor the final sentence to decadence. The realism of Aron wants to avoid two extremes: moralism and cynicism. The proposal of this thesis is the introduction of the word "oscillation" between decline and historical vitality: from decadence to decline, from decline to crisis, from crisis to conflict, from conflict to vitality, from vitality to creativity, and from creativity to action. The oscillation should literally energize Europe so as to transform crisis and conflict. Virtue is the missing link between decline and historical vitality. It allows energy to become harmonious again, to its point of equilibrium. The fulfillment of virtue puts into practice potentiality, the answer to challenge, commitment and historical vitality. The survival of the European civilization lies in this delicate edge that is a springboard to a revival

Full textThis thesis traces the steps of creating a projective device for exploring the self-archaic of an adult subject. Its development is the result of several former studies from various groups: adult subjects with no pathology recognized, young psychotic adults and/or borderlines, and adult paraplegic subjects. The device created for this research has evolved into an exploration and mediation tool used for many years as part of my therapeutic group of patients, mostly suffering from identity narcissistic disorders.Photographs of space, mostly taken by the CNRS or NASA with different telescopes, are used a carrier. With these photographs, the visual impact is undeniable. "What does the Universe mean to you?": The use of photographs of various celestial objects as projective medium to respond to a latent question about subjectivity, mobilizes thinking in images and comes to question the sense of self, archaic and current. The photographs offer a representation of native experiences, cosmic metaphors already presented in the psychoanalytic literature (Anzieu and formal signifiers, Aulagnier and the black hole of the psyche... These favor an imaged scene of early interactions. The EPSA device is an "attractor" seeking the projection of an "uncreated" image, an experience in default of symbolization. The EPSA malleability allows the patient to put into shape the uncreated, to tell the story of what he does not know of himself and that haunts him. The subject projects into the EPSA a psychic atmosphere, a trace of an emerging self with an operation that is sometimes problematic, in which appears "processes" of transformation.EPSA explores the reflexive capacities of the subject: the subject ability to be able to develop or not an aesthetic conflict, management and expression of conflict. It is also explores the ability to "reason" emotionally, to be in touch with his emotions, to experience them, to feel oneself, to see oneself, and "to express" his emotions (Three "degrees" of symbolization). The maturity of the archaic self and its expression (emotional maturity of the sense of self) can be defined as the tolerance and acceptance of affects, emotions, and feelings... caused by conflicts to think about oneself. In this way, the subject avoids being "overwhelmed" emotionally and inhibition. The mental and verbal elaboration of conflicts provides for sharing and communication with others.EPSA allows us to observe in adults the relationship in the early stages of development disorders: treatment of affect, early interactions, and disorders due to deficiencies in the tuning... EPSA is an exploration of an important tool in the construction of subjectivity processes, and refines our clinical look on narcissistic identity disorders, borderline condition, and disease of addiction...The EPSA device, which proposes the patient to imagine his impressions, enables the patient to put words to his thoughts. It is a creative space in which we found and create. A symbolizing device which encourages sharing and meeting. It is an "objeu", a therapeutic carrier. Finally, EPSA is a mirror of oneself, and also a tool of "transformation" of symbolization

Intermediacy is a condition of "coming between two things in time, place, character, etc." The areas of intersecting border areas, intermediate areas, display characteristics of the adjacent areas. Intermediate areas were the last lands available to be a place of transitions to connect adjacent areas. The lands, undeniably deserted, are mostly filled with ordinary functions necessary for modern lives, such as convenient infrastructure, big box retail stores, and corporate offices, which only return indifferent and ordinary experiences. Are the intermediate areas in the faith of being indifferent? What does it mean to be vital in those areas? This thesis seeks an approach to extracting the disregarded vitality of an intermediate area, and to introduce proposals that generate their own ways to vitalize an area. The study of an intermediate area, Alewife in Cambridge, Massachusetts, through range of scales and means, from diagrammatic mapping to observation of the site, gives understanding of what makes Alewife as it is now. The conceptual vocabularies assigned to conditions of the site shed the light on the potential vitalities as well as turn into conditions of design. The proposals for the intermediate areas have multiple purposes as a space, function, and role, in order to break through singularity and mono-functioning spaces which dominate the area. The proposals attempt to suggest how the resources of Alewife, both inherited on the area and from adjacent areas, could be maximized to activate the area. The stretched range of specificity, scale, intervening degree, and formality of the proposals allows the area to have multiple characteristics, which is a condition of being intermediate, "somewhere belonging to one place but with a foot in another.

Full textBioglasses of quaternary system SiO2-Na2O-CaO-P2O5 obtained by melting are cast at 1400 ° C, which does not allow the shape of complex materials, for example macroporous bioceramics composites (HA and TCP) coated with an uniform layer of bioglass. To overcome this limitation, the sol-gel process has been used in this study. The aim has been to synthesize by sol-gel process, two quaternary compositions usually obtained by melting in the SiO2- CaO-Na2O-P2O5 system. These are two compositions: 45S5® of L.L. Hench and 47Q made by C. Duée. These glasses are reversed, ie they contain more modifiers elements (calcium and sodium) as formers elements (silicon and phosphorus). For the sol-gel synthesis, TEOS (TetraEthylOrthoSilicate) and TEP (TriEthylPhosphate) have been used to introduce the formers. When minerals precursors are used for calcium and sodium, there are difficulties to maintain amorphous the gel during its drying. Indeed, minerals precursors have some dissolution-precipitation mechanisms linked to the selected solvents and the nature and concentration of anions in the medium. The use of other modifiers precursors has been made in the study to limit the proportion of anions contributing to the undesired precipitation phenomenon. Two original synthesis methods have been developed with alkoxide precursors, acetates and glycerol. With these processes, the amorphous nature of the compounds has been confirmed and their thermal characteristics have been studied. All sol-gel glasses are bioactives. The compositions, 45S5® and 47Q, have been doped with silver to add an antibacterial action to the bioglasses. L132 cells have been used to test the toxicity on the powders of the two sol-gel processes. The least toxic process is has been retained for the other tests. Doped and undoped bioglasses have been coated on the surface of flat and macroporous samples of HA and TCP by a dip-coating technique. Proliferation tests and biofilms formation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa have been made on coated TCP and show toxic effects of silver. Proliferation and vitality tests have been also made on MG63 human cells and have allowed to observe a toxic effect. This effect is not suitable in this case because it affects the biocompatibility of the implant. It would, however, be confirmed by other tests with other cell lines
