Previous studies have shown that pteris vittata may accumulate substantial quantities of arsenic (As) in its shoots. The present study involved collecting soils from 21 contrasting sites from around England which had been contaminated with arsenic as result of a wide range of human activities and natural causes. These were used to examine growth and As uptake by P. vittata in a series of pot experiments. This study focused on determining Arsenic (As), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd) and Zinc (Zn) concentrations of indigenous plants Pteris vittata L. and Eleusine indica L. in greenhouse experiment and some mining sites in Bac Kan province, Vietnam. The results showed that the soils of surveyed mining areas contained 378 – 6753 mgkg-1 As, 3210 - 21312 mgkg-1 Pb, 15.6- 312 mgkg-1 Cd and 1280-25310 mgkg-1 Zn depending on the characteristics of each mining site. L’obiettivo dello studio è stato quello di individuare e impiegare specie vegetali bioaccumulatrici di metalli/metalloidi per la phytoremediation. Due progetti hanno riguardato l’applicazione in campo della felce Pteris vittata. E’ stata indagata la sua capacità di iperaccumulatrice su suoli con contaminazione multipla, in presenza o meno di micorrizazione. P. vittata ha dimostrato ottima efficienza di accumulo per As e capacità di resistenza anche con elevate concentrazioni di coinquinanti. I funghi micorrizici hanno favorito la crescita delle felci e la loro tolleranza ad altri contaminanti.

BACKGROUND:Oocyte development was studied in the autogenous black fly, Simulium vittatum (Diptera, Nematocera), a vector of Onchocerca volvulus, the causative agent of onchocerciasis.RESULTS:Oocyte growth was nearly linear between adult eclosion and was complete by 72 hours at 21degreesC. The oocyte became opaque at 14 hours after eclosion indicating the initiation of protein yolk deposition. The accumulation of vitellogenin was measured using SDS-PAGE. Tidigare forskning har visat att både en gärningsman och ett vittnes etniska ursprung har avgörande betydelse för hur en gärningsman bedöms vid ett brott. Denna studie undersökte om deltagarnas och gärningsmannens etniska ursprung inverkade på attityden till att vittna vid ett brott. This project examined the efficacy of kaolin clay in controlling SCB (Acalymma vittatum; Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in cucumbers. Samples of the commercially important Hyperlophus vittatus were obtained from commercial purse seine and beach seine catches at six regions, between Perth and Bunbury, in the period from November 1991 to September 1992. Macroscopic and histological examination of ovaries indicated that H. vittatus is a multiple spawner and has a very protracted spawning season.
