Abstract:
Research into the ichthyofauna of the Vlasina Lake reservoir in south Serbia, which is part of the Danube basin, was carried out in 1993, 40 years after its formation. The results of the research reveal the presence of several species of fish belonging to the Adriatic and Aegean basin, such as Alburnus albidus, Rutilus basak, Scardinius graecus and Pachychilon macedonicus. These findings are of great importance from the aspect of conservation, because the species Scardinius graecus and Alburnus albidus are on the European list of endangered fish species. Vlasina Lake in south-east Serbia is classified as an Area of Distinct Land Use and, as such, is subject to high environmental protection standards applied in the Master Plan. Two open channels for stormwater and sediment transportation to two large detention basins with pumping stations for water evacuation into the lake were envisaged in the Master Plan. In the preliminary design, the stormwater system was quite different: wherever possible, on-site natural features were used for allocation of ponds, and drainage channels were led through existing road culverts. Based on theoretical conclusions, a new family of testate amoebae, Padaungiellidae, is described. It includes three genera: Alocodera, Apodera and Padaungiella. The most striking characteristic of the members of this family is an elongated neck, and absence of sets of teeth and septa along the oral-aboral axis on the inner side of the neck. The most common species of this family is Padaungiella lageniformis. Morphometrically, this species is not analyzed yet, so the qualitative and quantitative characters of a sphagnicolous population of P. lageniformis from the Vlasina Lake area (Serbia) are
