Abstract:
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that is capable of passing voice traffic, in the form of packets through the network Internet Protocol (IP). IP network itself is a data communications network based packet-switch. The voice signal before experiencing bundled voice coding or format conversion of sound into digital form that can be passed over an IP network. Telephony, Internet telephony, or termed VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol. This communication system use VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), ie voice calls over data services (internet). This communication was developed using Android-based devices. Based on characteristics, android devices are open source, so users do not need to have a license to be able to have android-based devices. In addition, the android device that must be connected to a SIP (Session Iniation Protocol) is a data service that can be done with a paid subscription of the user of the operator using a conventional pulse. Telecommunications designed will use a hybrid system, the merger between VoIP communications with data communications GSM network. With basic calculations where Coding standards G 729, is a standard that can be used for voice communication system through data networks with rate of 8 Kbps. The implementation of the G729 codec is effect on communication systems VOIP.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the post-adoption stage of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony diffusion, examining usage behavior based on Shih and Venkatesh’s use-diffusion (UD) model. Design/methodology/approach The research model incorporates technology sophistication, complementary technologies, personal innovativeness, self-efficacy, trust propensity, media exposure, subjective norms, and word-of-mouth (WOM) referrals as UD determinants; rate of use and variety of use as usage variables; intense use, specialized use, nonspecialized use, and limited use as UD patterns; and satisfaction and intention to use future-related technologies as UD outcomes. Data used to test the research model were collected using a web-based online questionnaire form; 360 valid responses were obtained. Partial least squares, multinomial logistic regression, and analysis of variance were used to analyze data. Findings The results reveal that variety of use, self-efficacy, propensity to trust, media exposure, subjective norms, and WOM referrals increase rate of use, while complementary technologies, personal innovativeness, self-efficacy, media exposure, and subjective norms widen variety of use; variety of use is essential in predicting UD outcomes; when choosing limited use as the reference category, more than half of the UD determinants are capable of predicting UD patterns; and generally, intense users are more satisfied with VoIP telephony, while limited users have less intention to use future-related technologies. Originality/value The present study focuses on the post-adoption stage, thereby extending the frontiers of research on the diffusion of VoIP telephony. Academics can obtain some evidence of the explanatory power of the UD model in the context of VoIP telephony use, and practitioners can obtain fresh insights into the dynamics of VoIP telephony usage behavior.

Abstract:
Abstract Communication is very important and a success factor of the system at the company. Communication can be done using telephone media and internet media. PT. Interdev Prakarsa has several branches and communication between branches is still done using telephone media, and it is very costly for the company especially since the company is already using internet media in the network. The solution to this problem in this study was designing an internet-based technology as communication between branches, the technology is called Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) with an open source operating system and an open source firewall that was Shorewall. Result showed that after installation and testing, this firewall reliable enough to overcome the problem of attack problems from outside. The results of VoIP tightening on service quality found that the application of VoIP did not consume a lot of CPU Benchmarks, i.e. only 0.80 to 1.35 per cent. The bandwidth used is also very small between 86 to 86.8 kbps for incoming calls and 83.4 up to 84.3 kbps for outgoing calls. Communication built between VoIP peripherals has also been tested to run well because the value of delay, jitter and packet loss is included in the good category. Keywords: VoIP, Shorewall, Comunication Abstrak Komunikasi pada sebuah perusahaan sangatlah penting, dimana komunikasi menjadi alat ukur keberhasilan sistem di perusahaan tersebut.

Abstract:
Abstract:
Improving voice quality over wireless communication becomes a demanding feature for social media apps like facebook, whatsapp and other communication channels. Voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) helps us to make quick telephone calls over the internet. It includes various mechanism which are signaling, controlling and transport layer. Over wireless links, packet loss and high transmission delay damage voice quality. Here VoIP quality will be measured by three main elements which are signaling protocol, audio codec and transport layer. To improve the overall voice quality, we need to combine these three elements properly to get the best score. Otherwise perceptual speech quality will not be the right tool to measure the voice quality. Here we will use Mean Opinion Score (MOS) for calculated jitter values and end to end delay. At the end, best combination of audio codec signaling protocol produced the quality speech.

In this research, we present a investigative study on how timing-based traffic analysis attacks can be used for recovery of the speech from a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) conversation by taking advantage of the reduction or suppression of the generation of traffic whenever the sender detects a voice inactivity period. We use the simple Bayesian classifier and the complex HMM (Hidden Markov Models) classier to evaluate the performance of our attack. Then we describe the usage of acoustic features in our attack to improve the performance. We conclude by presenting a number of problems that need in-depth study in order to be effective in carrying out silence detection based attacks on VOIP systems.

Abstract:
Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Engineering Systems Division, Technology and Policy Program, 2006.
Includes bibliographical references (p. 144-145).
"What Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is going to do is start to weaken the foundation of the way we've done things for 100 years...Congress already should be discussing the next telecom bill," said Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Michael Powell in February 2004, before the United States Senate. The objective of this thesis is to study how VoIP challenges the incumbent US telecommunications act. The appearance of VoIP comes at a juncture when telecommunications system has already turned into a large-scale, complex system with multiple, competing infrastructures. VoIP, however, greatly augments the nested complexity by affording a technology that enables multiple architectures and business models for delivering the same voice (and often converged voice and data) service, while remaining agnostic to the underlying infrastructure. The VoIP-enabled architectures have very different capabilities and costs from one another. Many do not - or cannot - support social regulations such as emergency 911, wiretapping and disability access. Most exploit the economic arbitrage opportunities by evading access charges and universal service contributions.
(cont.) Added to this is the combination of reduced asset specificity due to VoIP's layered architecture and a global standard based ubiquitous IP technology that frees the service providers of the need to own the delivery infrastructure, and enables them to offer service from anywhere globally. Such a misalignment - between regulatory obligations and technical capabilities - has the potential to incubate large-scale systemic failures due to lack of coordination between the local optimization focused private markets and the highly compartmentalized public institutions. The case of Communications Assistance for the Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) - also known as the wiretapping act - is taken to study its implications on VoIP. A system dynamics model is used for the analysis. Four policy lessons emerge through the process of arriving at the model and the subsequent sensitivity analysis. First, considering peer-to-peer (P2P) VoIP a non-issue for CALEA is exactly what might make it an issue. Second, if P2P VoIP aspires to be a telephony substitute, it will invite the threat of social regulation. Third, arms race between CALEA-compliant and non-compliant technologies may raise the cost of CALEA compliance. Fourth, prohibiting use of certain encryption techniques may help the LEA to keep their ability to wiretap intact, but it also deprives customers of the privacy the prohibited schemes would have offered, and thereby helps the Internet-crime.

Abstract:
Video games are an everyday experience for adolescents and have changed how adolescents interact with one another. Prior research has focused on positive and negative aspects of video game play in general, without distinguishing Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIPing) as the mode of play. Grounded in entertainment theory, motivational theory, and psychological distress theory, this cross-sectional, correlational study examined the relationship between VOIPing and quality of life (Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory), Yee's motivation to play video games, and resilience (Child and Youth Resilience Measure). A series of linear regression and multivariate canonical correlation models analyzed self-report responses of 103 adolescents aged 13 to18. Results indicated that VOIPing was not statistically related to quality of life or resilience. However, VOIPing correlated positively with motivation to play video games, particularly with the subscales of socialization and relationships. Canonical analysis of motivation for gaming and quality of life indicated that adolescents with high scores on customization and escapism motivation for gaming subscales tended to also have high scores on each of the emotional, social, and school quality of life subscales. Canonical analysis of motivation for gaming and resilience indicated that adolescents with low scores on the escapism motivation for gaming subscale tended to also have high scores on the individual, relationships, and community resilience subscales. The positive aspects of VOIPing, particularly with increased motivation to play video games, can be effectively used in coaching adolescents in social skills and relationship building.

Abstract:
Compared to traditional (PSTN) voice networks, a Voice over Internet Protocol network is a convergence of a signaling network and a data network using Internet Protocol (IP). The use of shared media by VoIP systems opens the door to some uncertainty as to the source of a call. While in the traditional voice networks one has to tap into a specific circuit to eavesdrop, in an IP network any equipment connected to the target LAN can identify, store and playback the VoIP packets that traverse that LAN. Unlike traditional voice networks which have only “dumb” end nodes (i.e. simple telephone receivers), VoIP must, by its very nature, deploy intelligent end point devices such as computers andlor IP phones, which are connected to open public networks. An unprotected, unauthenticated IP network makes VoIP susceptible to hostile use, such as call hijacking, connection tear down, denial of service, or sending computer viruses over the network. In this thesis, we perform a series of attacks against a commercial VoIP application, and prove that they succeed with nothing more than a couple of identity tokens captured from the network traffic as prerequisites. We then leverage the mobile agent-based framework introduced by APHIDS to design an Intrusion Detection System implementing a gradual attack-response procedure, destined to inform and protect the End-Users of the Application Under Test when specific, internet telephony attacks do occur, and ultimately to block the capability of the attack perpetrator to induce further damage.

Abstract:
One of the hottest technologies these days is voice communication over packet-switched data networks. This is known as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). Hardy (2003) defines VoIP as “the interactive voice exchange capability carried over packet switched transport employing the Internet protocol.” With VoIP, voice signal from the sender is digitized into packets that are transmitted to the receiver through a network, which often includes the Internet. As the Internet is a free resource, the communication cost of VoIP is much lower than that of traditional telephone systems. This is a major advantage of VoIP. VoIP system also increases the efficiency and service quality of businesses. As a result of VoIP, many advanced applications can be built and these include unified messaging, video conferencing, and ring list. But VoIP is not without its limitations. Its main drawback is low reliability. It also suffers from uncertain quality of voice transmission. In addition, it cannot guarantee security because it uses public networks. Although the idea of VoIP was known from the 1970s, it did not become commercially viable until 1995, when Vocaltec became the first company to produce the first commercially available VoIP product (Varshney et al., 2002).

Offering decreased costs and other benefits, VoIP is poised to transform telecommunications and the organizations that use them. However, some consider VoIP a security nightmare, combining the worst vulnerabilities of IP networks and voice networks. DOS attacks, crash attacks, packet spoofing, buffer overflow attacks, spam over Internet telephony (SPIT), and word injection all pose threats to commercial enterprise networks and the mission critical operations that they support.

Abstract:
As the name suggests, voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) refers to the technology that allows transmission of voice over IP networks. Using VoIP, we can make telephone calls over the Internet or any IP-based corporate networks. With VoIP in place, the Internet does not remain a data-only network; it becomes a telephone network as well. So, what is the motivation for VoIP? There are several appealing reasons why we want this technology. The most compelling reason behind the emergence of this technology is the enormous cost savings through integration of both voice and data, two large revenue-making media for telecommunication companies, over the same communication infrastructure. The other major motivation for VoIP is the widespread adoption of IP platform. Today IP is a well-entrenched technology which is deployed in servers, routers, desktop PCs, laptops, and in many hand-held mobile devices, such as palmtops and PDAs. If voice signals could be transported over IP, then voice could be delivered to all these devices, making these devices much more useful than they already are. This chapter discusses several aspects of VoIP: (1) Advanced applications powered by VoIP, (2) the technical challenges and solutions for making VoIP a reality, (3) various VoIP configurations, and (4) the protocols and standards for VoIP. We conclude the chapter by discussing the future of VoIP.

With the continual convergence of analogue technologies with those either simulated or implemented in digital based equivalents, future benefits usually involve better reliability and lower costs. As current technical limitations are removed, the literature does not show any large scale assessment of the legal and security implications of the removal of cables in this digital world or the effect of a move toward wireless transmission in this context. Neither Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) nor IEEE 802.11b is new technology, but the combination of these services to provide a primary telephone network for small regional centres is an innovative solution to rural telecommunication problems.

Abstract:
Today, Internet technologies have pervaded every corner of our society. More and more people are benefiting from the Internet in one way or the other. One of the current Internet technologies that may benefit us greatly is voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). According to Hardy (2003, p. 2), VoIP is “the interactive voice exchange capability carried over packet-switched transport employing the Internet protocol.” With VoIP technology, one can call anyone in this world at a lower cost, compared to traditional telephone systems. However, VoIP technology has one significant drawback. It has a low degree of reliability. From experimental results it is known that VoIP can achieve only 98% reliability. The service down time per year for VoIP is almost 20 working days (175 hours). For most companies and government organizations, such a degree of reliability is unacceptable since the traditional telephone system can achieve 99.999% reliability with a service down time of only five minutes per year (Kos, Klepec, & Tomaxic, 2005). As a result, quality of service (QoS) is an important concept for VoIP. Using QoS, VoIP may be able to overcome its limitation in reliability. QoS is often defined as the capability to provide resource assurance and service differentiation in a network. The definition includes two important terms—resource assurance and service differentiation. Resource assurance provides a guarantee about the amount of network resources requested by the user. On the other hand, service differentiation provides higher priority of getting network resources to those applications that have critical latency constraints. Given the importance of low latency for voice communication, it is not difficult to predict that QoS will assume greater importance in the VoIP industry as this technology gains popularity in the mass market. It is reported that VoIP is aggressively growing, and this growth is expected to continue in the coming years.
