Volcanic super-eruptions that produce >1000 km3 of ejected material and ≥ 1000 Mt (1015g) of stratospheric aerosols and sub-micron dust may be capable of creating global climatic disturbances sufficient to cause a severe setback or crash of modern civilization. Eruptions of similar magnitude are estimated to occur on average about every 50000 to 100000 years, which may be considerably more frequent than impacts by asteroids and comets that could cause similar climatic disasters. Climate change that contributes to the destruction of the earth is one of the impacts of human behavior. One example of damage to the earth due to human behavior is global warming. One of the effects of global warming is the melting of permafrost. Melting of glaciers due to global warming will result in an isostatic rebound phenomenon, where melting glaciers will cause the weight of the earth's crust to decrease and it is easy to move and bounce, resulting in the movement of earth faults and increased activity in the magma chamber (increased seismic activity). 'Natural' disasters have traditionally been viewed as the result of an extreme physical environment. A radical backlash against this dominant view, in the nineteen seventies and eighties, moved the debate to the opposite extreme and in doing so replaced physical with social determinism. Vulnerability analysis is proposed as a methodology that bridges these extremes. It takes into account individual decision making, social milieu and physical hazard when describing human habitation in areas of volcanic activity. It is argued that vulnerability should be defined in terms of universal human needs

Abstract:
Advancements in the establishment of the geological framework of the Sverdrup Basin resulting from the Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals program can be grouped under the main topics of tectonostratigraphy, crosslinking of biostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy, integration of igneous records with newly refined stratigraphy, and effects of global climatic environments on hydrocarbon source rocks in geological time. New discoveries of volcanic ash beds throughout much of the Triassic stratigraphic section required new tectonic interpretations involving a magmatic arc northwest of the basin tha

Abstract:
Cities in the Middle East and North Africa are already suffering the effects of climate change. Weak urban regulation, ineffective climate policies, limited decentralization and insufficient empowerment of local authorities and civil society further decrease urban resilience. Future climate scenarios and projected urban growth threaten the stability of the region; with potential negative knock-on effects on Europe. This CASCADES Spotlight Study examines climate vulnerabilities in urban areas in countries to the south of the EU and the wider Middle East and North Africa region and advocates for

Abstract:
Cambodia is highly susceptible to natural disasters due to the frequency and intensity of extreme climatic events, primarily floods, droughts and windstorms, but also in particular to increased climate variability. These disasters and climate-related hazardshave exacted huge socioeconomic costs on the country’s economy and people’s livelihoods, especially in the last decade. It isimportant, therefore, to understand not only the level of impactbut also the vulnerability and the capacity of people to adapt to these hazards. This emphasises the needfor vulnerability and adaptation assessmentsthat

Abstract:
This report presents results of upland vegetation and soil monitoring of semi-arid grasslands at three Parks by the Southern Colorado Plateau Inventory and Monitoring Network (SCPN) from 2007?2021. The purpose is to compare and contrast five grassland ecological sites and examine how they have changed during the first 15 years of monitoring. Crews collected data on composition and abundance of vegetation, both at the species level and by lifeform (e.g., perennial grass, shrub, forb) and soil aggregate stability and soil texture at 150 plots within five target grassland/shrubland communities de

Abstract:
The Cascades frog (Rana cascadae) is one of two frog species known to occur historically in Lassen Volcanic National Park (LAVO) in Northern California. However, no Cascades frogs have been documented in LAVO for several decades, despite repeated surveys. Threats to the species include natural predators, introduction of fish into historically fishless habitats, diseases like fungal pathogens, airborne drift of pesticides from nearby agricultural areas, ultraviolet (UV-B) radiation, wildfires, and habitat loss from human development and climate change. Objectives of this project were to conduct

A flood early warning platform to enhance climate resilience in West Africa. UNESCO, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.54677/zypr3725.

Abstract:
For many years, several countries of the West African region have been experiencing recurrent flood disasters triggering significant socio-economic impacts. According to the IPCC 6th Assessment Report, increases in heavy precipitation can lead to frequent floods for most African regions. Achieving and maintaining water security is particularly challenging under current climatic variability and projected climate change. Furthermore, challenges are exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. To cope with these challenges, WADiRE-Africa prototyped a flood early warning platform and built cross-sectoral
