The aim: to evaluate the effect of age, metabolic disorders and arterial hypertension on the level of free circulating mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Research methods. 102 patients with arterial hypertension (AH) and 39 practically healthy were examined. The disastrous earthquake of 12 May, 2008 had its greatest impact on the Qiang people, an ethnic minority living in the mountainous regions of Sichuan at the earthquake’s epicentre. The Qiang mostly inhabit the poorest and most socially disadvantaged remote rural mountainous areas of the Wen Chuan and Mao Wen Qiang Autonomous Counties of Sichuan.
