Purpose – How can multinational companies become more productive on a global scale? The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether a production improvement programme can improve quality performance in a global network of factories. Specifically, the paper analyses the effects of the Volvo Group's production improvement programme on global quality performance. Design/methodology/approach – The research approach is a case study of the Volvo Production System (VPS). In both companies, people respon-sible for marketing create the image of the brand using analogous strategies as in the case of promo-ting products of popular culture. The cars exceed the frame of the commodity and in the process of “mediation of things” they become brands, culture products, even heroes. A case study in Volvo Powertrain is conducted to examine the distribution of responsibility for human factors in the companies’ engineering design process. Design decisions with human factors impact, and hence system performance implications, are identified in the design of both the product and the production system in a chain of decisions, spread across multiple stakeholder groups. Thus the organisational structure of the engineering design process appears to influence the ability to handle human factors appropriately at each stage of design. After analyzing the technology of natural stone mining in Russia in comparison with European countries, we conclude that one of the ways to increase the efficiency of the mining transport equipment system in natural stone quarries is to use wheel loaders more widely. Wheel loaders are characterized by high maneuverability, productivity, and are able to combine excavation, transportation, shipping, as well as perform auxiliary work. At the same time, the loader is very effective for providing access to any section of the quarry after stripping loose overburden and waste that impede movement. To

Abstract Accurate prediction of oil production flow rates helps production engineers to detect anomalous values which in turn will provide insights about any flaws in huge oil well systems. To aid this, oil flow rate is commonly estimated using empirical correlations. However, in some cases, significant error is inherent in application of this empirical correlation and will often yield inaccurate results. This present work aims to develop a machine learning algorithm based on an Artificial Neural Network to predict with (high accuracy) the oil production flow rate, using an open source data ob
