Abstract:
Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, a German-language writer, was a great star of French literary life. The famous Revue des deux mondes devoted considerable space to him by publishing ten short stories entitled Slavic Women (Femmes slaves) in the period from 1889 to 1891. Sacher-Masoch emphasized that French was hissecond mother tongue, and some sourcesindicate that he wrote and published his texts directly in French. We propose to analyze Zarka the Dalmatian from the short story of the same name and Melitza the Montenegrin from the short story “A Day in Gatzko” (La journée de Gatzko), two female char

Abstract:
Abstract As with the term sadism, Krafft-Ebing coined the term masochism after another literary figure, the German writer Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, whose novel Venus in Furs (1870) explored the world of sexual domination. In 1888 Sacher-Masoch explained the origins of his obsession with pain and humiliation in a semi-autobiographical fragment published in a French literary periodical (Extract 75).

Abstract:
This chapter is a comparative reading of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s Venus in Furs, from which masochism is so named, and the Old Testament tale of Samson and Delilah in order to claims Samson as the actual “father” of masochism. Putting the two texts into conversation enables readers to understand that Samson willingly and pleasurably positions himself as subjected to Delilah—a conclusion made plausible by Severin, the protagonist of Venus in Furs. Chapter 1 argues that the long literary history of masochism begins not with Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, but with the mythical man his protagonist

Abstract:
The metaphorical system of the poem “About That” is closely related to the life and poetry of Goethe. The poet’s identification with a bear is borrowed from Goethe’s poem “Lilis Park”, where the main hero is a jealous poet-bear. The name of the heroine is also the same: just like in Mayakovsky’s poem, the object of the poet’s love is called Lili. Another important source of the poem is the book “Venus im Pelz” by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch (1870), published in Russian in 1908. If the metaphorical system of “About That” was influenced by Goethe, the main theme of the poem — the painful separatio
