Abstract:
The paper focuses attention on the riddle as a special poetic species, which in the twentieth century captured the attention of researchers (Jolles, Crnković, Kekez, Valand). First it is talked about its characteristics, and then the tradition of appearance throughout the history of Croatian children’s literature, from a comparative point of view in relation to the creativity of several Croatian poets (Vitez, Halovanić, Luketa, Videk, etc.). The central part of the work is dedicated to the puzzles of Aljoša Vuković, a Croatian poet who draws on the tradition and work of past writers for children, but significantly expanding the reach of the species in a motif, linguistic and substantive view. Several examples of the expressive habitus of Vukovic’s riddles are argued. The authors position him at the center of contemporary poetic production, and their own analyses are supported by quotes from the works of eminent literary critics about Vukovic’s work.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Prispevek analizira potopitev avstro-ogrske admiralske ladje Viribus Unitis 1. novembra 1918 v Pulju. Ko sta postavila eksplozivno polnjenje pod trup Viribus Unitis, so ju odkrili. Pripeljali so ju k novemu poveljniku mornarice Države SHS kontraadmiralu Janku Vukoviću - Podkapelskemu, ki sta ga opozorila o nevarnosti. The article provides an analysis of the foundering of the Austro-Hungarian flagship Viribus Unitis on 1 November in Pula. The study was based on the Italian military archival documents from Rome. The article describes the process of creating the idea of a commando attack on a military port in Pula, which was in the first place more a matter of individuals rather than the Italian military system. The idea was first developed by Lieutenant Raffaele Paolucci, while Major Raffaele Rossetti prepared a special technical device called Mignatta, which enabled the transportation of explosives and both commandos. In July 1918, Mignatta was operational and both commandos were intensively trained in the procedures of port invasion. The mission order was issued on 30 October 1918 and determined the course of the campaign; however it did not provide its precise date. The campaign was launched on 31 October 1918 and failed to adhere to the plan from the very beginning. The two commandos managed to enter the port following some major difficulties. They were discovered once they planted a bursting charge under the hull of Viribus Unitis and were brought to the new Commander of the Navy of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs, Admiral Janko Vuković – Podkapelski. They warned him of danger and the commander ordered the evacuation of the crew and let the two commandos retreat to safety. According to Italian information, the ship was sunk within 20 minutes. Both commandos were freed after 5 days and were considered heroes in Italy. They received a substantial amount of prize money for the foundering of Viribus Unitis, but many objected to this. After the war, Paolucci became a renowned surgeon and supporter of fascism, while Rossetti was an active anti-fascist.

Abstract:
It was in the monastery of Saint Francis in Venice in the year 1520 when Bozidar Vukovic purchased the icon of the Holy Mandylion. By that particular acquisition, this prominent publisher originating from Zeta has visualized his new position in the sixteenth century Venice. The multi-layered identity of Bozidar Vukovic was manifested by the subsequent inclusion of the noble coat of arms of the House of Vukovic on the back of the icon. By the use of verbal and visual language the artificial initiation of Bozidar Vukovic within the distinguished members of Venetian society has been confirmed.

Abstract:
Vukovar is the city in the East Croatia on the border with the Republic of Serbia. In the paper I attempt to show the development of the city, the composition of its population and the relationships between ethnic groups from establishing of Vukovar until the beginning of the Homeland war in 1991. The paper presents the history of the Croat majority and the minorities which were, and which are, present in the city: the Germans, Hungarians, Serbs, Rusyns, Ukrainians, Yews and the Slovaks. From the beginning Vukovar was a multicultural, multiethnic and multiconfessional city thanks to migrations which were present since its establishing, in which the Croats were the majority. After the WWI a large number of Serbs immigrated into this area. The political situation gave them benefits which earlier belonged to Germans and Hungarians. They gained power to rule the city. It became the source of constant tensions between the Serbian and Croatian population in the period of Yugoslavia (1918-1941) and during the WWII (1941-1944). Although the communist Yugoslav authorities were trying to pacify interethnic differences, the escalation of nationalisms brought about the siege and the capture of Vukovar in 1991 by the Serbian troops.

Full text
Abstract:
Miloje M. Vasić, "the first academically educated archaeologist in Serbia", has a strange destiny in the Serbian archaeology. On the one hand, he has been elevated to the post of the "founding father" of the discipline, with almost semidivine status and iconic importance, while on the other hand, his works have been largely unread and neglected. This paradoxical split is the consequence of the fact that Vasić has been postulated as the universal benchmark of the archaeological practice in Serbia, regardless of his interpretation of the past on the grounds of the archaeological record – the essence of archaeology. Strangely, the life and work of Vasić have not been the subject of much writing, apart from several obituaries, two short appropriate texts (Srejović, Cermanović), and rare articles in catalogues and collections dedicated to the research of Vinča (Garašanin, Srejović, Tasić, Nikolić and Vuković). The critical analysis of his whole interpretive constellation, with "The Ionian colony Vinča" being its brightest star, was limited before the World War II to the rare attempts to rectify the chronology and identify the Neolithic of the Danube valley (Fewkes, Grbić, Holste). After the war, by the middle of the 20th century, the interpretation of Vasić has been put to severe criticism of his students (Garašanin, Milojčić, Benac), which led to the significant paradigm shift, the recognition of the importance of the Balkan Neolithic, and the establishment of the culture-historical approach in the Serbian archaeology. However, from this moment on, the reception of Vasić in the Serbian archaeology has taken a strange route: Vasić as a person gains in importance, but his works are neglected, though referred to, but almost in a cultic fashion, without reading or interpreting them. Rare is a paper on the Neolithic of the Central Balkans that does not call upon the name of Vasić and his four- volume "Vinča", in which Neolithic is not mentioned at all. This paradox becomes clearer if Vasić is regarded through the prism of the problematic, but not yet challenged and universally praised values in the Serbian archaeology: material, fieldwork and authority, as opposed to interpretation, which is regarded as ephemeral. From this point of view it becomes clear how the image of Vasić grows into the icon of the Serbian archaeology, while his work slides into the domain of the oral tradition, half-truths, and apocryphal anecdotes. Considering that the majority of the Serbian archaeological community shares the belief that there is an absolute archaeological method and "pure" archaeological material, both representing "the data not burdened by theory", the field journals of Vasić and his published works become the source of the "material", while his interpretation of the past is neglected. As long as these "data" are not considered in connection to the whole opus of Vasić, the research questions and strategies that directed his work, the Serbian archaeology will be inhabited by two separate images: one – forefather and founder, the researcher of the Neolithic Vinča, "the first real Serbian archaeologist", whose face gazes at us sternly from the bronze busts and enlarged photographs, and the other – vulnerable and insulted dreamer, convinced in his philhellene delusion. Only the integration of these two images will pay due homage to Miloje M. Vasić.

Abstract:
Analysis of political-propaganda actions of Western media during the Yugoslav crisis with the role in breaking the second Yugoslav state is performed in the paper, on basis of the previously theoretically determined idea of propaganda and political propaganda. By character, it was ?propaganda of war? and in certain intervals it was ?war propaganda?, while the subject of stigmatization were the Serbs, therefore it was decidedly anti-Serbian by the character. Direct occasion for this analysis were scientific researches of Dr. Slobodan Vukovic regarding the Yugoslav crisis, the role of foreign (Austrian, German, British and American) print media in the development of anti-Serbian propaganda as the basis for the breakage of Yugoslavia and the war against the Serbian people and Serbia. In his works (in the period 2000-2018), especially in the last two-volume compound Serbs in the Narrative of the West: ?Humanitarian? NATO Intervention, Vukovic successfully arguments the thesis about the centennial continuous anti-Serbian propaganda and the policy of the West based on it regarding the Serbs, which is the consequence in the greatest extent of the German revanchism for the lost two world wars, but also the result of other interests of the Western forces.

Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate the contribution of forensic research to the discovery and analysis of mass graves of victims of the Yugoslav People’s Army and Serbian paramilitaries at Ovčara, near Vukovar, and to the identification of exhumed victims as missing persons who were forcibly removed from Vukovar Hospital on 20 November 1991. Methods: We analysed official international documentation and transcripts from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. Data on causes of death and injury classifications were derived from autopsy reports and their interpretation by a forensic specialist. Identification of individuals was based on a report by a representative of the Commission on Detainees and Missing Persons. Results: Scientific and expert evidence from forensic research of the Ovčara mass grave shows that 198 male and 2 female bodies (one of a pregnant woman) in civilian clothes were exhumated from the site, with an average age of 32.5 years, including 3 minors. The determined manner of death for all 200 exhumed bodies was homicide, and the cause of death for 95% of the victims was a gunshot wound to a vital part of the body, in 67% of cases to the head. Traces of medical treatment and hospital workwear were found on 53% of the victims. 96% of the bodies were positively identified, 46.5% using classical forensic methods, and 49.5% by DNA analysis. Most of the victims were Croatian nationals of the Catholic faith. Conclusion: Forensic analysis and identification confirmed that the war crime victims exhumed from the Ovčara mass grave were listed as missing persons who disappeared from Vukovar Hospital. Their murder was used as relevant evidence of planned ethnic cleansing in court.

Abstract:
Introduction: In terms of access to treatment of acromioclavicular joint injuries, there are many controversies, especially after the appearance of works that promote "neglecting of injury". Goal: The aim of this paper is to give a comparative analysis of the results of rehabilitation of patients after acute injury of the acromioclavicular joint of the third degree, treated by two surgical techniques: by Phemister and Vukov. Material and methods: In this study, we investigated a total of 60 operated patients: 30 patients were operated by Phemister technique, and 30 by Vukov technique. Results: Postoperative follow-up lasted for one year. Between these two groups, the time when the rehabilitation process began is significantly different p<0.01. With technique by Vukov, the rehabilitation begins on the first postoperative day and with technique by Phemister it begins later (after 7 weeks outpatient). With technique by Phemister, rehabilitation lasted on average 60 days, and with technique by Vukov on average 40 days. The duration of recovery is also significantly different p< 0.01, with technique by Vukov the duration time is shorter, and therefore the process of rehabilitation in days - is shorter than with the other technique. Both techniques gave good stability of the lateral end of clavicle. The difference was not statistically significant p> 0.05, which means that both techniques can be applied depending on the indication and the experience of the surgeon.

Abstract:
Abstract:
In settings of intergroup conflict, identifying contextually relevant risk factors for youth development is an important task. In Vukovar, Croatia, a city devastated during the war in former Yugoslavia, ethno-political tensions remain. The current study utilized a mixed-methods approach to identify two salient community-level risk factors (ethnic tension and general antisocial behavior) and related emotional insecurity responses (ethnic and nonethnic insecurity) among youth in Vukovar. In Study 1, focus group discussions ( N = 66) with mothers, fathers, and adolescents of age 11 to 15 years old were analyzed using the constant comparative method, revealing two types of risk and insecurity responses. In Study 2, youth ( N = 227, 58% male, M = 15.88, SD = 1.12 years) responded to quantitative scales developed from the focus groups, discriminate validity was demonstrated, and path analyses established predictive validity between each type of risk and insecurity. First, community ethnic tension (i.e., threats related to war/ethnic identity) significantly predicted ethnic insecurity for all youth (β = .41, p < .001). Second, experience with community antisocial behavior (i.e., general crime found in any context) predicted nonethnic community insecurity for girls (β = .32, p < .05) but not for boys. These findings are the first to show multiple forms of emotional insecurity at the community level; implications for future research are discussed.

Abstract:
Slavonia and Baranja or Eastern Croatia is a physical-geo?graphical part of the Pannonian Basin and it is divided administratively into 5 counties: Virovitica-Podravina, Pozega-Slavonia, Slavonski Brod-Posavina, Osijek-Baranja and Vukovar-Sirmium (which make nearly 20% of the state). Regarding functional organization, Slavonia and Baranja is a part of Osijek nodal region but with interrelated influences of other regional centres like Slavonski Brod, Vinkovci, Vukovar, Djakovo and Pozega. Analysis of this region consisting of 22 cities and 104 municipalities with 805,998 people (according to Census 2011) will be conducted according to several economic-geographic indicators: foreign trade exchange, number of employed people per 100 inhabitants, number of unemployed people per 100 inhabitants, economic structure of population as well as the share of people employed in agriculture and industry as the most important sectors in the regional economy. Demographic problems will also be analysed, because the population is one of the most important factors of economic and social development. The main problems of the analysed region are depopulation, aging and rural exodus as well as the fact that every city or municipality, except one, had the decline of population comparing to previous Census of 2001. These processes are accompanied by spatial population polarization which has also resulted in economic decline.

Abstract:
We enjoyed the company of Bogdan Bogdanović a few times. He told us about his life and his work, among other things. This article is to a large extent a result of those pleasant meetings. Everyone needs to be alone from time to time; to be alone in the open air, away from their own private room and from the public street. And in the same way as two people can be alone in the same place without disturbing each other, the public space for being alone is not only a necessity but also a possibility. But all that is fairly fragile. It is difficult to design spaces for solitude, and it is particularly difficult to make them work. Sometimes, perhaps, the places preferred by people on their own are just a matter of chance. Moreover, they can easily disappear. Three of such spaces: so fragile and so fascinating, are the subject of this study. They are memorials for Prilep, Travnik and Vukovar, all works of Bogdan Bogdanović. Each of them is a drop of culture in a desert.

Abstract:
U tom su procesu tri političke stranke – savez komunista Hrvatske-stranka demokratskih promjena, Hrvatska demokratska zajednica i Srpska demokratska stranka – bile glavni akteri nacionalne mobilizacije i političkog života u Vukovaru.
