Abstract In June 2016, BC Hydro (British Columbia’s provincially-owned electric utility) opened a new exhibit at the W. A. C. Bennett Dam Visitor Centre. The Our Story, Our Voice gallery brought the hardships endured by the region’s First Nations citizens as a result of the fifty-year-old dam to light. A carefully crafted apology from BC Hydro’s Deputy CEO figured prominently in the gallery’s opening ceremony. But with a controversial new dam threatening the province’s last stretch of free-flowing Peace River, both the exhibit and the apology were deeply ironic. This article draws on my comple

ABSTRACT Bean leaf beetle (BLB) is one of the pests of concern of soybean. BLB larvae feed on soybean roots, particularly nodules and reduce leaf and pod nitrogen content. Adults feed on cotyledon, leaves and pods and reduce foliage. Foliage reduction showed a delay in canopy development and consequently, yield reduction. During pod fill, BLB may feed on the surface of pods. While larval feeding on root and defoliation due to adult beetle feeding affect soybean yield indirectly, pod feeding inflicts direct injury on yield. The feeding injury on the pod surface facilitates an e

In order to study the relationship and effect of nitrogen gas in the reducing gases used in the reducibility tests of iron oxides, under isothermal conditions, a test scheme was executed using ammonia gas, such that its decomposition of the gas in the reactor produced a mixture of H2 and N2 gases. Furthermore, the addition of 6% NH3 in a 28% H2 and 68% N2 gas stream was planned to obtain a gas composition of 70% N2 and 30% H2. This would allow comparing the reducibility curves between both conditions, assuming that the possible difference between both conditions to compare the volume changes o

The Density functional theory is one of most promising methodology in fast and accurate calculations of electrical and optical properties from the atomic basis. In this paper, we calculate electrical and optical properties of allylamine (2-propen 1- amine) in terms of accuracy and speed of calculations obtained by selection of DFT-1/2 method with ultrasoft Vanderbilt pseudopotentials. Comparison of density of states between molecule and bulk configuration shows great agreement between them, therefore we calculated refractive index which showed even better agreement with experimental data. Sandbur (Cenchrus incertus Curtis) is a warm-season, annual, noxious, grassy weed native to southern North America. It is common in sandy, disturbed soils and can also be found in home lawns and sport fields where low turf density facilitates its establishment. In July 2013, after a period of frequent rainfall and heavy dew, symptoms of dollar spot-like lesions (1) were observed on sandbur plants growing in a mixed stand of turf-type and native warm-season grasses in Logan County, Oklahoma. Lesions, frequently associated with leaf sheaths, were tan and surrounded by a dark margin. Symptomatic

In present work, snake headed fish Channa punctatus was exposed for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours under stress conditions of temperature. The notable changes in glycogen content were observed and compared with control set. It showed that sudden asphyxia developed in animals facing stress conditions and their normal activities were affected. As a result, the glycogen content was significantly decreased than that of the control.
