We search for Standrod Model single-top-quark production in the W -gluon fusion and W* channels using 106 pb-1 of data from [Formula: see text] collisions at [Formula: see text] collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We set an upper limit at 95% C.L. on the combined Wg + W* single-top cross section of 13.5 pb, roughly five-and-a-half times larger larer than the standard model prediction. Separate 95% C.L. upper limits in the Wg-fusion and W* channels ae also determined and are found to be 13.5 and 12.9 pb respectively.

In this paper, we develop theoretical foundations for bidirectional bounded-suboptimal search (BiBSS) based on recent advancements in optimal bidirectional search. Effective sweep width (W) promises objective probability of detection (POD) values for guiding missing-person search efforts. However, methods for measuring W produce large uncertainties. Also, models for generating POD from W have not been validated for ground-based search. The authors applied least-square fits of POD data collected in the field for air-scent dog teams as well as human searchers using the two most prevalent models to derive W values. The method routinely fits the data to an R-square of .8 with more statistical power than previous methods, and appears to be detector-agnostic.
