Abstract:
Massage has been widely applied to improve health and reduce stress. However, the performance difference between hands-on treatment and treatment by mechanical devices has been little mentioned. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to investigate a subject's EEG performance under massage treatment applied by hand and treatment applied by mechanical devices. Massage was applied to four acupoints for three minutes each. The massage acupoint sequence was from left Jian-wai-yu, right Jian-wai-yu, left Zuo-fei-yu, and finally right Zuo-fei-yu. An EEG system of 32 channels was used. Twenty-four volunteers, mainly college students, were enrolled. EEG rhythm powers of each massage sessions were derived. Two-way ANOVA revealed that there were also significant interactions between the massage stage and the massage type on delta(P<0.01), theta(P<0.05), and beta rhythms(P<0.01), and there were significant differences at different stages for the mechanical massage group (F=5.557,P<0.01). The mechanical massage group had more significant differences than the hands-on group for stage coherence of around coherence on alpha rhythm. Further rhythm power scalp topography between two massage methods is also investigated.

Abstract:
"Flower paradigm" has a great influence on the development of ci. Wang Yisun, a poetist in the late Song Dynasty, intended to break through the paradigm, but his standard "outside of flowers" was not free from the influence of "between flowers". Compared with Hua Jian, "Hua Wai" is a unique style inherited and newly changed in the relationship between lyric mode and ci meaning. The inheritance and innovation of Bishan ci are embodied in lyrical Angle, emotion, image structure and contrast between ci and meaning. To explore the relationship between Wang Yisun's ci poems and "flower-to-flower paradigm", we can get a glimpse of the origin of the formation of "flower-to-flower paradigm", and also provide a new perspective for us to review "flower-to-flower".

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper we describe how a COVID-19 phone app was localized by students of the MA program in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The project presented unique challenges including the urgency and short time-lines, less-than-optimal internationalization of the source code, limitations of the CAT tool, and the use of an open-source platform and crowd-sourced agile development model, in addition to particular linguistic aspects related to the new specialized subject matter, limited string context, and potentially sensitive data. On the other hand, it offered the opportunity to experience a real-life localization project, which had important pedagogical benefits for translation students. These and other aspects are described and suggestions proposed to enable similar projects to run smoothly.

Abstract:
Abstract Intercultural crisis communication in an interconnected and globalized world emphasizes the need for translation to be put in place as foreign nationals with cultural and linguistic barriers might rely on it to prepare for a possible crisis or make informed decisions when already affected by a crisis. However, translation is an underdeveloped tool in crisis management, particularly in China. Considering it a special branch of public service translation, the author investigates crisis translation by using a case study of the disruptive outbreak of novel coronavirus disease in Wuhan. Based upon the author’s first-hand experience as a crisis manager at the Office of Foreigner Affairs in the Municipal Government of Wuhan, this article describes how government translators with the help of external volunteer translators made language services available and accessible to affected foreign nationals in the response phase from 8 January 2020 to 7 April 2020. It analyses these translation-mediated activities from a crisis manager’s perspective. Despite the preliminary nature of the findings, which still call for further validation, it is hoped that insights from this article will be of interest to those who are engaged with crisis translation services and to those who research crisis translation.

Abstract:
Objective: To prospectively evaluate possible decline of cognitive functions in adult patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and identify associated factors. Patients and methods: We performed a 24-month prospective observational study of adults (≥16 years) with JIA. The primary outcome measure was decline in cognitive function defined as a worsening of ≥2 points on the scales of the subsets administered to evaluate the different cognitive areas using the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) after 24 months: attention/concentration (digit span); verbal function (vocabulary); visual-spatial organization (block design); working memory (letter-number sequencing); and problem solving (similarities). Other variables included average inflammatory activity using C-reactive protein and composite activity indexes, comorbidity, and treatment. Logistic regression was performed to identify factors associated with cognitive decline. Results: The study population comprised 52 patients with JIA. Of these, 15 (28.8%) had cognitive decline at V24. The most affected functions were working memory (17.3%), attention/concentration (9.6%), verbal function (7.7%), visual-spatial organization (7.7%), and problem solving (3.8%). There were no significant differences in the median direct or scale scores for the cognitive functions evaluated between V0 and V24 for the whole sample. The factors associated with cognitive decline in patients with JIA were average C-reactive protein (OR [95% CI], 1.377 [1.060–1.921]; p = 0.039), depression (OR [95% CI], 3.691 [1.294–10.534]; p = 0.015), and treatment with biologics (OR [95% CI], 0.188 [0.039–0.998]; p = 0.046). Conclusion: Cognitive decline was detected in almost one third of adults with JIA after 24 months of follow-up. Systemic inflammatory activity in JIA patients was related to cognitive decline. Patients treated with biologics had a lower risk of decline in cognitive functions.

Abstract:
Between 1919 and 1934, as members of China's Guomindang (Nationalist Party) struggled to take control of and transform the country, they increasingly appropriated language and symbols associated with the fallen Qing Dynasty. At the same time, these were accompanied in party discourse by radical appeals that included strong critiques of China's past. In this they were far from unique: studies of nationalisms around the world have found them to combine appeals to the new and the old. Yet in China this combination incited particular controversy, as Guomindang members and others, wrestling with the cultural legacy of the empire, put forward powerfully radical critiques not only of the culture of the past but also of traditionalist appeals to it. The result was distinctive textual practices I term 'revolutionary traditionalism', which appropriated cultural elements of the imperial orthodoxy while reconciling these appropriations with radical language. Yet this revolutionary traditionalism could not unproblematically form a unified modern nationalist orthodoxy. Radical and traditionalist positions in regard to culture recurred through power struggles within and beyond the party. Through these struggles, by the end of the 1920s revolutionary traditionalism came to characterise the new Nationalist Government formed by Guomindang members in Nanjing. While like other nationalists Guomindang members reinvented the language and symbols to which they appealed, however, the case of Confucius shows that they could not unilaterally control these reinterpretations. The central place of Confucius in national culture was established through a process of negotiation, as groups identifying themselves as 'Confucian' petitioned the state, appropriating its own traditionalist discourse, for recognition and commemoration. Yet these Confucians, pursuing their own often religious agendas, also cast doubt on the authenticity of the state's commitment. Revolutionary traditionalism thus remained unstable, repeatedly challenged both from radical and traditionalist positions.

Abstract:
The republican government in China joined the Allies and declared war on Germany on 14 August1917. Many previous researches have focused mainly on what sort of assistance the Chinese government provided during the Great War, but few involved the process of how the leadership in China reached to the decision of joining the Allies. The purpose of this thesis, therefore, is to investigate the reasons why the Chinese republican government would be willing to engage in a war involving various great powers in the world. In order to analyze the issue from both the perspectives of the republican government and the Allies, this research paper relies not only on Chinese official documents, but also on diplomatic correspondence from British and the U.S government. In addition, Chinese local newspapers, personal letters and memoirs of Chinese politicians and intellectuals are also examined so that local opinions in China would also be mentioned. In general, this research finds national interest of the republican government may not be the only explanation to China’s participation in the war, other factors such as the urgent need for China to expel German interest, invitation from the U.S government and Japan’s consent also played a vital role. The decision to declare war on Germany was not a move the Chinese republican government could make without consulting the western powers since the issue was highly sensitive and might easily inflict damage on the interest of both sides. The key to China’s participation in the war thus lies in the diplomatic negotiation and compromise between China and the Allied powers.

Abstract:
AbstractSunzi said, “Warfare is pivotal to the state. [It is] a milieu where life and death are decided, [it holds] the path to survival or extermination and cannot be neglected.” In like manner, the Commentary of Zuo (Zuozhuan) states, “Rituals and warfare are of vital importance to the state.” From this we see that besides ritual matters, such as ancestor worship and maintaining the temples, rulers in ancient China considered warfare and military training to be of utmost importance. Consequently, much attention was paid to sacrificial implements and weapons of war. The production and maintenance of arms was an integral part of this effort as it impacted state security as a whole. The study of ancient arms therefore not only teaches us about ancient weaponry and methods of combat but also yields unique insights into the technology and organization of war. The principal short-range weapons during the Han dynasty were jian (double-edged sword)and dao (single-edged sword), while the latter gradually replaced the jian in military use as the dynasty wore on, partly as a result of the rise of cavalry. This paper contains three parts: iron smelting and weapon production in the Han dynasty; the ancient techniques of iron smelting in shaft furnace; and reconstructing the Han ring-pommel dao with ancient methods.

Abstract:
The chapter discusses two key notions of contemporary Chinese policy about religion, “sinicization” and xie jiao. Both words have a venerable tradition in China, but are used by the regime with new meanings. “Sinicization” was once used to indicate that organizations operating in China should have Chinese rather than foreign leaders, but it now means that leaders should be selected, or at least approved, by the Chinese Communist Party. This also applies to religious organizations. Xie jiao is often translated as “evil cults,” but that translation is misleading. Xie jiao is a label used since the late Ming dynasty to indicate movements the authorities regard as antigovernment and socially dangerous. The politics of singling out and banning xie jiao was passed from Imperial to Nationalist China and then to the CCP regime. An official list of groups banned as xie jiao was reinstated in 1995. The Chinese Criminal Code now includes Article 300, making being active in a xie jiao a crime.

The chapter examines various viewpoints in regards to Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. This includes the entry of Jio in the telecom space along with the difference in the market Jio bought right after its introduction of the services for public. The focus area for the research has been the secondary sources. A complete understanding of both these companies has been taken into account for this study to pick up the points that both Jio and Bharti have been lacking upon and areas in which one has surpassed the other by attracting a new set of consumers into their family. The chapter as recorded by the facts presented through the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Analytics Portal witnessed that Jio proved to have an upper hand in terms of the quality of service, which included data speed and tariffs. The other side of the story shows Bharti Airtel's lack of dominance in 4G experience delivery after Jio's entrance.

Abstract This chapter cites the novel China Dream by exiled storyteller Ma Jian and Liu Cixin’s science fiction fantasy The Dark Forest, which are used to describe China’s future. It explains that Ma Jian’s dystopian rhapsody tells of a society trapped by its failure to come to terms with its past. It also analyzes Liu Cixin’s vision of a China that is effortlessly part of global political, economic, and technological leadership. The chapter refers to calculations of China’s debt that focus on the borrower side, wherein loans to business, households, and government are added up. It clarifies how China’s combination of advanced economy debt levels and emerging market income levels is a unique disadvantage, emphasizing that maxing out on debt at a middling level of development made it more difficult for China to close the gap with high income countries.

Abstract This case study is about stress and survival of telecom industry players. India’s telecommunication network is the second largest in the world by number of telephone user (for both fixed and mobile phone). The major players are Airtel, BSNL, Vodafone-Idea. If we look back in to the history Reliance communication launched in the telecom industry in the year 2002. Later on other global measure launched in India like Vodafone, Uninor, Docomo. Current scenario in the telecom industry—where we have disruption in the call charge prizing with lowest ever monthly rental launched by Jio (Mukesh Ambani group). After launch of Jio, the existing stabilize private player Airtel, Vodafone-Idea faced challenges of survival due to low AGR. This case will highlight policies that depart from telecom sector. They must reconsider or update in order to offer the best consumer experience and prizing war. This case will highlight telecom crisis. The department of telecommunication appears to be on the side of operators but survivors are still in trouble. The battle between Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea—it became very intense. Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) came to Airtel and Vodafone Idea for support. The COAI warned Supreme Court that the telecom sector would turn into a monopoly if Jio allowed to behave on own wish without proper policies in place. However this did not go well with Jio and they shot off a letter to COAI talking about the sector. Jio said, ‘these operators anyways were not investing sufficiently in the sector and have been shedding crocodile tears by claiming financial stress for a long time now and have not shown any inclination to modernize the networks.’

Abstract:
The impact of foot problems in adults with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases is generally well established. However, in contrast, the impact of foot problems in children with rheumatic diseases has received relatively little attention. Therefore this chapter provides an overview of the most common rheumatic disorder of childhood: juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), with a focus on how it affects the foot, how it impacts on foot function, gait, and activities of daily living, and its associated assessment and management strategies. We acknowledge that other rheumatic disorders of childhood such as (but not limited to) juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus and dermatomyositis may occasionally present with foot-related impairments; however, these are less likely to affect the foot and ankle in the same way or to the same extent as JIA, and podiatrists are often less involved in management of these conditions. Therefore this chapter will focus on JIA, which frequently affects the foot and ankle and often requires podiatric contributions to the overall management strategies implemented by a multidisciplinary team.

Abstract:
The coda summarizes the book’s overarching narrative and goals, and followed by a discussion of the lasting impact of Those 72 Tenants (Qishier jia fangke, dir. Wang Weiyi, 1963) and its remake, The House of 72 Tenants (Qishier jia fangke, dir. Chor Yuen, 1973), on developments in Hong Kong cinema since the 1970s as they intersect with political and social change originating during the mid-1960s disturbances. A comparative analysis of these two films demonstrates the porous boundaries across media formats as well as across social and political realms of experiences. The coda concludes with a discussion of Kung Fu Hustle (Kungfu, dir. Stephen Chow, 2004). Kung Fu Hustle, which was financed and distributed by Columbia Pictures International, can be considered as global and international. However, it is also local in its nostalgic expressions. As the book’s final case study, the film demonstrates the Hong Kong cinema’s persistence of the portrayal of a screened community and local identity. Abstract:
In the present work, the effect of thermal aging on ratcheting behaviors of three pressurized elbow pipes after different thermal aging periods was experimentally studied under constant internal pressure and reversed in-plane bending. The elbow pipes were thermal aged for 1000 h and 2000 h at the same aging temperature of 500 centigrade degrees. It is indicated that thermal aging period has a significant effect on elbow pipe’s ratcheting deformation. Chen-Jiao-Kim (CJK) kinematic hardening model was employed to evaluate the ratcheting behaviors of pressured elbow pipes affected by thermal aging.

Abstract:
FPSO moored by STP mooring system plays a dominate role in oil and gas production in South China Sea. To study its hydrodynamic characters, a joint industry project on full scale measurement for Fenjin FPSO, headed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and sponsored by CNOOC, was initiated in October 2007 and lasted for 25 months. During the project, a special phenomenon, named as SWING, was noticed. When a SWING happened, the FPSO’s heading angle would change greatly within a relatively short period, beyond the normal range of the weather-vane effect. Due to the large low-frequency motion, the tension forces of mooring system would increase greatly. Also, it may lead to positioning failure during the tandem offloading operation. So, the SWING motion is a great threat to the safety of FPSOs. A preliminary prediction for its cause as well as a fundamental analysis of its hydrodynamic mechanism is completed in this paper. According to the statistical results of the SWING based on the Fenjin’s motion data during the full scale measurement as well as the corresponding wind wave and current data in the same period, a plausible prediction for its cause is provided. It is pointed out that the change of direction and velocity of the current within a short time might be the cause of SWING. The research for the mechanism of the SWING is carried out through both the methods of analytical analysis and the model test. A hydrodynamic model is built to simulate the low-frequency motions of FPSO in time domain. And an in-house MATLAB program is written on the basis of the hydrodynamic model, to do the calculation. Analysis results are compared with the full-scale measured data, to prove the cause prediction. Furthermore, on purpose of validating the program, a model test was conducted in Deepwater Offshore Basin in Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Several different current velocities were chosen in the test. The program results show a good agreement with both the data of full scale measurement and the model test results, which indicates that the hydrodynamic model and the code are both credible.

Abstract:
Abstract 316LN stainless steel is the main material used in the primary pipelines of the pressurized water reactor due to its excellent characteristics. In the consideration of its serious environment, the cyclic deformation of material at high temperatures is concerned. A series of multiaxial ratcheting experiments were conducted at room, 350°C and 550°C. These experiments contained circular, rhombus and uniaxial loading paths with different mean stresses and stress amplitudes. At elevated temperature conditions, it got quick shakedown in multiaxial cases which is similar in uniaxial ones indicating that dynamic strain aging (DSA) exists. Uniaxial strain was the maximum in all the test temperature. Mean stress is seemed to be always the main influence factor. The difference of ratcheting strain under rhombus path and circular path decreased from room temperature to elevated temperature, which is inferred that DSA effect may weakened the nonproportionality at elevated temperature. The ratcheting strain evolution was simulated by Chen-Jiao-Kim model with the multiaxial parameter associated with temperature.

In ASME 2016 35th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/omae2016-54617.

Abstract:
A model test of a free-hanging riser under vessel motion was performed in the ocean basin at Shanghai Jiao Tong University to confirm whether vortex-induced vibration (VIV) can happen due to pure vessel motion, to investigate the equivalent current velocity and Keulegan–Carpenter (KC) number effect on the VIV responses and to obtain the correlations for free-hanging riser VIV under vessel motion with VIV for other compliant risers. Top end of the riser was forced to oscillate at given vessel motion trajectories. Fiber Brag Grating (FBG) strain sensors were used to measure the riser dynamic responses. Experimental results confirmed that the free-hanging riser would experience significant out-of-plane VIV. Meanwhile, VIV responses in terms of response amplitude, response frequency and cross-section trajectories under different test cases were further compared and discussed. Most importantly, the correlation among VIV response frequency, vortex shedding pairs and maximum KC number KCmax was revealed. The presented work is supposed to provide useful references for gaining a better understanding on VIV induced by vessel motion, and for the development of future prediction models.

Abstract:
External reactor vessel cooling (ERVC) of the In-vessel retention (IVR) system is widely accepted as a feasible way to remove decay heat from the lower head of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) under severe accident (SA) conditions. However, some issues relating to ERVC still need to be evaluated before its application, such as boiling and flow phenomena and CHF prediction, etc. To study these key issues, an experimental study program named REPEC (Reactor Pressure Vessel External Cooling) is performed at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Steady state experiments focusing on flow boiling phenomena investigation are carried out with comprehensive measurements, including temperature distribution, pressure drop and mass flow rate. As a part of studies on boiling mechanism and flow phenomena between RPV and the insulation, the experiment is analyzed and simulated with RELAP code. The code simulation covers most of the experimental cases, and a comparison between simulation results and experimental data are presented and discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract Many ocean engineering problems involve bound harmonics which are slaved to some underlying assumed close to linear time series. When analyzing signals we often want to remove the bound harmonics so as to “linearise” the data or to extract individual bound harmonic components so that they may be studied. For even moderately broadbanded systems filtering in the frequency domain is not sufficient to separate components as they overlap in frequency. One way to overcome this difficulty is to use input signals with the same linear envelope but with different phases and then use simple addition and subtraction of the resulting signals to extract different harmonics. This approach has been established for the analysis of wave groups. In this paper we examine whether this approach can be used on random time series as well. We analyse random wave time series of wave elevation from the towing tank in Shanghai Jiao Tong University and force measurements on a cylinder taken in the Kelvin tank at the University of Strathclyde.
