Pauses in breathing during sleep or better known as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is one of the disorders that greatly disturb the quality of life of many people. Lifestyle changes such as reducing obesity can reduce OSA. One of the method to measure the level of obesity is the measurement of waist circumference, as one good indicator to know the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Therefore, in this study would like to understand the relationship between waist circumferences with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Abstract contains Online lectures during the COVID-19 pandemic are implemented to reduce face-to-face activities. Online lectures have various impacts on students, one of them is reduced physical activity. The result of online lectures is a change in waist circumference and hip circumference. This may cause obesity in students. The objective of this study is to show the changes that occur and the relationship between changes in the shape of the hip and waist circumference due to online lecture

Background While weight gain during first year of university has been well documented in North America, literature on sex-specific effects is scarce and inconsistent. The objective of this investigation was to explore sex-specific changes in obesity traits during first year of university at McMaster University (Ontario, Canada). Methods 245 first-year students (80.4% females) were followed longitudinally with data collected early in the academic year and towards the end of the year. ABSTRACT CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: The association of serum triglycerides plus waist circumference seems to be a good marker of cardiovascular risk and has been named the “hypertriglyceridemic waist” phenotype. The aim of our study was to investigate the association between the hypertriglyceridemic waist phenotype and HDL-cholesterol among patients with heart failure. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional study in a tertiary-level hospital in southern Brazil. METHODS: We included patients with heart failure aged > 40 years. Background: Anthropometric measures have been used for screening patients for cardiovascular abnormalities and metabolic syndrome since many years. There are numerous methods to assessing overweight and obesity, such as measurements of weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference and calculation of waist hip ratio and BMI. Due to cultural inhibitions measurement of hip, thigh or waist circumference is cumbersome in females, neck circumference could be an acceptable option for such patients. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on patients attending the outpatient department

Adiponectin, an adipose tissue-specific plasma protein, was recently revealed to have anti-inflammatory effects on the cellular components of vascular wall. Its plasma levels were significantly lower in men than in women and lower in human subjects with obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, or coronary artery disease. Therefore, it may provide a biological link between obesity and obesity-related disorders such as atherosclerosis, against which it may confer protection. In this study, we observed the changes of plasma adiponectin levels with body weight reduction among 22 obese patients who recei
