It employs ethnographic and practice-led methodologies (undertaken primarily in Scotland) to understand the embodied, emotional and material dimensions of the dry-stone craft. Abstract:
Bypass flow in a prismatic high temperature gas reactor (HTGR) occurs between graphite blocks as they sit side by side in the core. Bypass flow is not intentionally designed to occur in the reactor, but is present because of tolerances in manufacture, imperfect installation and expansion and shrinkage of the blocks from heating and irradiation. It is desired to increase the knowledge of the effects of such flow; it has been suggested that it may be 20% of the total helium coolant flow [INL report 2007, INL/EXT-07-13289]. This report outlines the development of earthquake damage functions and comparative loss metrics for single-family wood-frame buildings with and without seismic retrofit of vulnerable cripple wall and stem wall conditions. The underlying goal of the study is to quantify the benefits of the seismic retrofit in terms of reduced earthquake damage and repair or reconstruction costs. The earthquake damage and economic losses are evaluated based on the FEMA P-58 methodology, which incorporates detailed building information and analyses to characterize the seismic hazard, structural response, earthqu

This work performed measurement and verification of installed, operational solar wall systems at Fort Drum, NY, and Forbes Field, Air National Guard, Topeka, KS. Actual annual savings were compared estimated savings generated by a solar wall modeling tool (RETScreen). A comparison with the RETScreen modeling tool shows that the measured actively heated air provided by the solar wall provides 57% more heat than the RETScreen tool predicted, after accounting for boiler efficiency. The solar wall at Fort Drum yields a net savings of $851/yr, for a simple payback of 146 years and a SIR of 0.16. RE

Abstract:
Developing new and improved rubber compounds to meet increasing demands for application specific product properties requires detailed knowledge of material properties to be able to predict the processing behavior. Therefore, rheological material properties, which are traditionally determined using the high-pressure capillary rheometer (HPCR) are of crucial importance. Rubber compounds often exhibit flow anomalies and non-isothermal effects, influenced by the compound ingredients and processing parameters that are generally neglected in rheological studies and simulations. The objective of the SPIM-1-2 project was to identify and evaluate the most promising technologies for detecting and sizing fatigue cracks on heavy wall pipelines and risers, preferably without liquid coupling. To complete this evaluation, six full-scale heavy wall pipe samples were fabricated, and a range of fatigue cracks generated in circumferential welds using resonant fatigue. These samples were used in blind test trials on several available inspection technologies in a pull-through testbed. The technologies were evaluated on their ability to detect and size the fatigue cracks generated f
