Abstract:
Personal safety has had a renewed focus throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to behavioral change. The adoption of E-wallets facilitates social distancing and thereby helps prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This paper aims to investigate the potential for consumers’ continued usage of an E-wallet service through an integrated framework based on two established models: the Health Belief Model (HBM) and Technology Continuous Theory (TCT). An electronic survey was distributed to a sample of 1080 individuals from academic society in three different Hungarian universities who had used an electronic wallet during the pandemic COVID-19. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was applied in the study and explained the 55.9% variance in consumers’ continuous intention towards E-wallet usage. This study found that while the COVID-19 pandemic strongly influenced the current use of e-wallets; the pivotal factor affecting their continued use is based on consumer self-efficacy. The study has both short and long-term implications; in the short-term, decisionmakers should utilize health threat constructs (as an element of the protective behaviors taken during the COVID-19 pandemic) to motivate consumers to use E-wallets; in the longer-term, banks should develop further strategies that encourage consumer loyalty regarding E-wallets by reassuring customers that these financial services achieve the value and benefits that they expect, resulting in self-efficacy.

Abstract:
The development of technology has triggered developments in all industrial sectors, including circulation of money. There are three types of money currently circulating, namely currency, demand deposits and e-money. OVO is one of the server-based e-money publishers that can be accessed via a smartphone or commonly known as a mobile wallet. The low number of mobile wallet (m-wallet) users in Indonesia is interpreted from the number of people who use cash compared to m-wallets. Several factors influence the low use of m-wallet in Indonesia. Millennials are considered the generation closest to technology, the presence of new technology is a necessity that is owned by millennials. With this millennial generation, it is expected to be able to improve the performance or effectiveness of the presence of this m-wallet. The type of research used is descriptive verification, namely by describing and exposing the variables studied and then drawing conclusions. The research object is the variable found in the UTAUT3 model. The population in this study were OVO users in Indonesia. Sampling in this study uses non-probability sampling (random sampling) using a purposive sampling technique for 114 OVO users in the millennial generation in Indonesia. Instrument test is done by validity test and reliability test and the analysis technique used is analysis of Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS).

Abstract:
E-wallet has become a new payment method in the global trend, replacing cash payment gradually. Malaysia's national bank has set out objectives to move to a cashless society with electronic payment system in its Financial Sector Blueprint 2011-2020. Hence, this research aims to investigate the drivers that affect the behavioural intention of consumers towards the adoption of e-wallets in Malaysia. Performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence are the three factors adopted from the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology model (UTAUT) to demonstrate the intention of consumers on e-wallet adoption. Additionally, perceived security and incentives are integrated into the research model to examine the factors that affect the e-wallet adoption. Four hundred fifty questionnaires were collected and analysed. The results show that all the factors have positive relationship with intention of e-wallet adoption. The research findings contribute to various parties such as the academicians, researchers, service providers, financial institutions, and the government.

Abstract:
This study explored the effect of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social influence, facilitating condition, lifestyle compatibility, and perceived trust on both the intention to use an e-wallet and the adoption of an e-wallet among adults by using the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). This quantitative study adopted a cross-sectional research design to gather data from 501 respondents using a Google Form. The collected data were analyzed using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). As a result, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social influence, lifestyle compatibility, and perceived trust displayed a significant positive effect on both intentions to use an e-wallet and adoption of an e-wallet. This study evidenced the mediating effect of the intention to use an e-wallet on the correlations between the predictors and adoption of an e-wallet. Both the age and gender of the respondents moderated the effect of lifestyle compatibility on intention to use an e-wallet. The study outcomes serve to inform managers and policy makers to devise effective strategies that capture consumers’ intention to use and experience of using an e-wallet in the midst of a turbulent market. Ultimately, such carefully sculpted policies may promote the digital platform and web-based application, apart from encouraging higher rates of e-wallet adoption in developing countries.

Abstract:
Human life is inseparable from technological developments. Until now, research related to the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is still used as a basis for the theory of technology product acceptance in line with the increasingly complex development of human behavior and needs. This research is the development of Technology Acceptance Modeling (TAM) by involving the Narrative Online Advertising variable. The purpose of this study is to develop and test the model by including the Narrative Online Advertising variable as an external variable or antecedent variable to the attitudes and intentions of millennials in adopting an electronic wallet (Go-Pay). The Narrative Online Advertising variable, as the theory developed by Ching, Tong, Chen, and Chen, is an online advertising strategy involving the narrative element in advertising content, which has been widely displayed on the internet media. The object used in this study is Go-pay, a popular electronic wallet application in Indonesia. The sample in this study is the millennial communities domiciled in Surabaya totaling 200 respondents, collecting data through questionnaires, using a Likert scale, and the analytical tool used is SmartPLS. The results of this study show that Narrative Online Advertising has a positive effect on the Perception of Ease of Use, but does not affect the Perception of Benefits. At the same time, the four factors positively affect the Attitude and intention to adopt Go-pay. These results indicate that millennials will use Go-pay if Narrative Online Advertising is improving their interest in using the e-wallet. Therefore, it is suggested that in making an e-money application, Narrative Online Advertising is important to attract millennials in using the app.

This paper aims to apply queuing theory to a banking service system. Financial institutions are known to attract large audiences on a daily basis, generating long and lengthy queues. Based on empirical knowledge, it is common to use seasonality to explain the increase and decrease in the flow of people in the agencies, either because it is the payment week of a wallet, the workers' lunchtime. This paper aims to apply the theory in a system, with the objective of increasing the company's competitiveness, so that it is remembered as the customer's first choice.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to empirically examine the factors that influence a consumer’s attitude and intention to use mobile wallets using a sample representative of Indian users. Design/methodology/approach A multidisciplinary model is proposed, building on the technology acceptance model (TAM) and unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and other relevant research on factors, which influence technology adoption. A synthesis of review of literature on factors influencing technology adoption besides two focus group discussions (FGD) was used as a design a pilot instrument. A nationwide primary survey was conducted using the questionnaire. Convenience sampling was used to select the respondents. In total, 744 respondents participated in the survey, and 17 hypotheses were formulated and PLS-SEM was used to estimate and test the hypothesized model. Findings The results show that factors like perceived ease of use (PEOU), perceived usefulness (PU), trust, security, facilitating conditions and lifestyle compatibility have a significant impact on the consumer attitude and intention to use mobile wallets. Of the proposed 17 hypotheses, 15 were accepted. Ease of use significantly influenced usefulness and trust, whereas PU significantly influenced trust, attitude and intention. Security and trust were found to be play an important role in determining trust. Research limitations/implications This study examines the perception of students and working professional from large Indian cities. A larger representative sample encompassing balanced representation from urban and rural India could enhance the scope and widen the application of the results across larger target groups. This study analyzes data at a specific point in time. Considering the rapidly changing rate of adoption of mobile wallets, a longitudinal study could, therefore, be conducted. Furthermore, the possibility of including other antecedents like relative advantage, perceived benefits, personal innovativeness among other factors, which have not been addressed here can be explored. Also, additional research can help examine the role of demographics in adoption of mobile wallets including its moderating effect. Practical implications As security and trust emerged as important constructs for acceptance of mobile wallets, there is a need for developing an integrated robust, reliable and secure infrastructure. A joint think tank involving key stakeholders (financial institutions, mobile wallet providers, government, security experts, etc.) should propose guidelines to ensure safe and secure transactions. The findings have managerial implications, which can guide companies offering mobile wallets to enhance usage and adoption of such services. Originality/value Mobile wallets have provided newer digital payment avenues to consumers while offering companies and marketers greater opportunities to market their products and services, online. However, not much is reported about the adoption of mobile wallets in India. The study is perhaps the first in India to examine the adoption of mobile wallets using a larger sample in comparison to earlier studies. The study proposes and validates additional constructs, which were not present in the original model.

Abstract:
Banks have seen a convergence in end-customer banking interactions over the last decade, owing to IT-enabled solutions and services such as Core Banking, Online Banking, Mobile Banking, Wallet, Wallets Kiosk Banking. The evolution of IT in the banking industry supports both banks and their clients. Banks' business models are now centered on delivering consumer joy via IT-enabled solutions and services. Cloud technology allows banks to follow a digital paradigm for providing novel channels, reducing TAT to market new offerings, fulfilling consumer expectations, and adhering to regulatory requirements at a lower cost. In constantly evolving technical paradigms, cloud-based solutions offer a higher value proposition to IT solutions and services. Device administrators can remotely assemble, upload, customize, and execute virtual tools to manage a business solution using cloud infrastructure. Furthermore, cloud IT technology can be scaled up or down at any time based on planned use and specifications without incurring high costs. To assess the impact of cloud computing and artificial intelligence in operational and service advantage Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) technique is used. The thesis demonstrates how well the measured variables reflect the number of constructs and whether the estimation hypothesis is confirmed or rejected.

Abstract:
PurposeThis study provides empirical evidence for the impact that income and expenditure fluctuations have on understanding the fundamentals of BoP household share-of-wallet in South Africa.Design/methodology/approachThe study used a longitudinal financial diary methodology to record household income in 80 households (in four different geographic areas) over four monthly waves.FindingsThe study showed the lack of reliability of aggregated population income and expenditure surveys when understanding the specific behaviour of BoP households. The study concludes that major category trade-offs occur on a monthly basis, and that these trade-offs directly impact our fundamental understanding BoP SoW.Originality/valueWhile the BoP consumer theory is developing (especially in the last decade), most of the theory is focused on development and business strategy. Empirically based consumer theory is noticeably lacking, given that the BoP is the largest population segment on earth. In addition, research is largely absent of highly rigourous and in-depth quantification of consumer SoW behaviour. This study contributes to the BoP theory by examining monthly fluctuations in income and expenditure, a line of analysis not done before to this extent. In doing so, the study proposes a new metric for the measurement of category expenditure as an index of the total spend.

Abstract:
Raqṣ ʿalā al-māʾ: aḥlām waʿrah (Dancing on Water: Difficult Dreams, 2006) by Maḥmūd al-Bayyātī is among a number of Arabic post-Cold War exile novels that invite critical reflection on the loss of exilic belongings tied to the Soviet world. In the novel, an Iraqi poet, who has recently arrived in Sweden from Prague, Czechoslovakia following the collapse of the Soviet Union, finds a wallet containing a large sum of money. The poet (and narrator) re-imagines his new exile in Sweden through his search for the owner of the wallet and through the related question of how to distribute the money. As the narrative unfolds, the search begins to resemble the act of circling and pacing (ṭāf, yaṭūf ), a concept that frequently recurs in the novel. Ṭāf invokes both the haunting of the narrator’s past exile and political affiliations, and ṭawāf, the ritual circling around an empty center. Read alongside Derrida’s Specters of Marx the novel offers a compelling reflection on a critical juncture of Arabic literature. By comparing Raqṣ ʿalā al-māʾ to two other post-Soviet Arabic literary narratives of exile, Iqbāl Qazwīnī’s Mamarrāt al-sukūn (Zubaida’s Window: A Novel of Iraqi Exile, 2005) and Muḥammad Makhzangī’s Laḥaẓāt gharaq jazīrat al-ḥūt (Memories of a Meltdown: An Egyptian between Moscow and Chernobyl, 2006), this article considers the multiple ways that literary narratives have made exile and Marxist political affiliations objects of mourning. The spectral qualities of Raqṣ ʿalā al-māʾ subvert many of the post-Cold War narratives on national identity and the death of Marxism that the narrator confronts and, in the end, produce an ambiguous yet engaging reflection on migration and exile in contemporary Europe.

Abstract:
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Government departments and enterprises in Taiwan apply RFID universally in the fields of animal microchip, door access management, Auto chip of anti-theft de-vice, MRT Easy Card, parking lot man-agement, anti-counterfeiting and material management, but the multifunctional in-telligent card with integration of RFID applications has not been developed so far. If we can develop a card with integration of the functions which are closely related to people's daily life such as ID card, NHI IC card, fingerprint, E-signature and E-commerce (E-wallet), it will not only save time and money spent on applying these cards for people, but also will lower the governmental ex-penditure and achieve the effect of energy saving and carbon reduction. The previous studies mostly explore the factors affecting the user’s intention and behavior of RFID use from the initial beliefs (ease-of-use and usefulness) and attitude. For example, to what extent the knowledge, belief, attitude, perceived value, it deserves further exploration. To resolve the above problems, this study out differences from Social cognitive theory, Innovation Diffusion theory and Expectation confirmation theory, and establishes the theory model of the user's intention and behavior of using RFID continuously, which is also verified in this paper.

Abstract:
Customer experience (CX) has evolved into a top priority of business executives worldwide. CX is a key determinant of long-term corporate success. CX research has become commonplace among academics and marketing practitioners alike. Despite CX’s omnipresence, scholars and managers cannot agree on the meaning, foundations of CX, and develop enough evidence and tools to demonstrate CX’s crucial link to firm performance. Many argue that market researchers, by still relying on proxy measurements of CX, such as service quality, customer satisfaction, or the Net-Promoter-Score, all measurements with very little or no link to consumer behavior, are to be partially blamed for this predicament. As a result, there is a growing need for new, more comprehensive measurements built to understand the CX as main driver of consumer behavior. Scholars try to address this need by offering new measures, such as CX quality (EXQ), and the wallet allocation rule (WAR). The goal of our article is to use one of the most used measurements, customer satisfaction, in comparison with EXQ and WAR to determine which one of them can explain and predict consumer behavior best. Behavior is measured by examining the share-of-category of customers with multiple automobiles. The study highlighted that CX is a far better predictor of consumer behavior than customer satisfaction. Indeed, it provides more insight and a stronger explanatory power of consumers’ share-of-wallet (SoW). The findings confirmed that customer satisfaction has a weak influence on share-of-category. We could not confirm the proposed powerful correlation between share-of-category and the WAR. The most interesting finding is that the direct relationship between CX and SoW is negative in nature. We discuss the reasons for this counterintuitive result and its implication for theory, managers, and market researchers.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to introduce an alternative novel approach to measurement of customer perceptions of the service experience that links closely with customer loyalty outcomes. Design/methodology/approach – This conceptual paper draws upon prior theory and empirical research to investigate the relevance of using relative metrics compared to absolute metrics in service research. Findings – The findings upon which this paper draws upon show that measuring customer satisfaction, likelihood to recommend, brand preference using absolute metrics explain a very small per cent of the variance in key customer outcome measures such as share of wallet. Instead, a relative approach to these and other measures in service research is proposed. Practical implications – Although business practice has embraced relative measurement much more extensively than has scientific research, the vast majority of customer experience measurement programs today continue to employ absolute measures resulting in suboptimal allocation of firm resources. This paper is a call to rethink these current measurement practices. Originality/value – It is one of the first papers to argue for changing the widely employed use of absolute metrics in theory and practice in favor of relative metrics. Application to other service research theories is discussed.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to determine if Bitcoin transactions could be de-anonymised by analysing the Bitcoin blockchain and transactions conducted through the blockchain. In addition, graph analysis and the use of modern social media technology were examined to determine how they may help reveal the identity of Bitcoin users. A review of machine learning techniques and heuristics was carried out to learn how certain behaviours from the Bitcoin network could be augmented with social media technology and other data to identify illicit transactions. Design/methodology/approach A number of experiments were conducted and time was spend observing the network to ascertain how Bitcoin transactions work, how the Bitcoin protocol operates over the network and what Bitcoin artefacts can be examined from a digital forensics perspective. Packet sniffing software, Wireshark, was used to see whether the identity of a user is revealed when they set up a wallet via an online wallet service. In addition, a block parser was used to analyse the Bitcoin client synchronisation and reveal information on the behaviour of a Bitcoin node when it joins the network and synchronises to the latest blockchain. The final experiment involved setting up and witnessing a transaction using the Bitcoin Client API. These experiments and observations were then used to design a proof of concept and functional software architecture for searching, indexing and analyzing publicly available data flowing from the blockchain and other big data sources. Findings Using heuristics and graph analysis techniques show us that it is possible to build up a picture of behaviour of Bitcoin addresses and transactions, then utilise existing typologies of illicit behaviour to collect, process and exploit potential red flag indicators. Augmenting Bitcoin data, big data and social media may be used to reveal potentially illicit financial transaction going through the Bitcoin blockchain and machine learning applied to the data sets to rank and cluster suspicious transactions. Originality/value The development of a functional software architecture that, in theory, could be used to detect suspicious illicit transactions on the Bitcoin network.

Abstract:
<p>The question of survival and sustenance are at the very foundation of every individual or organization. There are various factors that are essential for growth and sustenance of companies. There has been many research studies undertaken to gauge the success factors or to breakdown the components and study success in detail. Especially so, it gains even more importance when companies are serving the markets where consumers have very low incomes and have several unmet needs. Companies serving the base of the pyramid markets need relatively unique strategies and value propositions for success. The base of pyramid came into forefront when management thinkers C K Prahalad and Staurt L. Hart, formulated the “Bottom of the Pyramid” theory in a 2002 article about how businesses can help the poor while still able to make a profit. They noted that there was little competition among the millions of the poor, who essentially live in a world of non consumption. Through low prices, new business models and innovative products, and inclusive value creation corporations along with the help of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and local governments, could make money and do good for the larger cause by tapping this underserved market. It has been the belief of many that BOP consumers are typically characterized by several unmet needs, it could range from food, sanitation, transport, communication, and connectivity. It is also interesting to note that in several BOP markets where are overlapping needs not necessarily following the need hierarchy. Information and communication technology businesses have been able to occupy a larger share of the BOP consumer’s wallet than even basic needs such as sanitation or electricity. What then prompts these consumers and how can businesses reach out to these segments in a phased successful manner. This paper develops the concept, postulates, explanations, theoretical model, and business case based proof on Cockroach Theory of Organizational sustainability and scalability by considering BOP business companies performance evidence. The study also discusses the applicability of this theory and its frameworks on companies and their business models focusing on BOP sectors along with the limitations.</p>

PurposeConsumers shopping motives may differ across products/services categories, retail formats and channels. In the context of m-Apps-based commerce, this study aims to explore different shopping motives of consumers in three different categories of app, namely, food delivery, ride sourcing and digital payments. Using motivation literature, the study extends the theory of consumer motives by including sustainability as a key motive to buy in the context of m-App channel. Further, the authors undertake a comparative analysis of the identified motives across the three mobile applications (m-Apps).Design methodology/approachThe research methodology involved two stages (qualitative research followed by quantitative research). In qualitative research, personal interview was conducted to extract items for survey questionnaire development. Subsequently, quantitative analysis was carried out. The data were subjected to exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The study sample comprised 201 young Indian managers.FindingsUsing principal component analysis and CFA, the study validates the existence of different motivations in the three categories of m-Apps considered. Transaction-oriented and sustainability-oriented motivation is found to be a major motive to use m-Apps for food delivery, ride sourcing and mobile payments. Additionally, in digital wallet applications for mobile payments, consumers exhibit innovation-oriented motivation. Value-oriented motivation was identified as a motive in food delivery apps.Research limitations/implicationsThe scale developed and the comparative study done extended the theoretical conversation on young consumer motives in the context of m-Apps channel and extended it by including sustainability motive, which needs further in-depth study.Originality/valueThis is one of the first studies to explore sustainability motives in the context of m-Apps channel.

Abstract:
Purpose Drawing on socioanalytic theory, this paper aims to explore whether a moderation mediation model can describe the mechanism linking salesperson social reputation (perceived stability and plasticity) and performance (customer share of wallet) in relationship marketing. The mediator is the salesperson’s overall equity, and the moderator is the salesperson-customer congruence. Design/methodology/approach A structured questionnaire was used to obtain data from 233 customers, served by 44 personal finance advisors at five banking agencies in Canada. Findings A multilevel approach showed that both perceived stability and perceived plasticity predict salesperson equity and performance. In addition, the empirical results indicated that the relationship between perceived stability and salesperson performance is partially mediated by salesperson overall equity. However, equity fully mediated the relationship between perceived plasticity and salesperson performance. Finally, the salesperson-customer congruence moderated the effect of both perceived stability and plastic on the salesperson overall equity. Research limitations/implications This research suggests that the moderation mediation model enables predicting the relationship between the perceived personality and performance. From a managerial perspective, the author encourages sales managers to pay attention to salespersons’ equity development as well as their performance. Notably, the author suggests that sales managers support and monitor salespeople with regard to improving their social status as well as their social popularity in their interactions with customers. Originality/value Previous research in sales force literature focuses on salespersons’ self-personality to predict sales performance. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study is the first to show it is important to consider the perceived personality of a salesperson in predicting their performance. This study is also the first to introduce the salesperson reputation concept and its dimensions (perceived stability and plasticity).

Abstract:
Purpose Despite the abundance of B2B loyalty programs (LPs), the research on their interplay with relationship marketing is scarce. The purpose of this paper is to investigate a LP (a relational practice) on a transactional business market to test if and how a B2B LP affects relationship outcomes. Design/methodology/approach The study is based on dyadic research in a multi-theory framework. Data were collected from 200 small and medium enterprises that purchase office supplies from a company and merged with the company’s internal records. The formative-reflective measurement model is estimated using structural equation modeling – partial least squares (SEM-PLS). Findings Relationship quality (RQ) directly affects sales and customer share of wallet. The effect is strengthened by customer activity in a LP. RQ results directly in a longer tenure and willingness to recommend only for members of a LP. Research limitations/implications RQ is driven mainly by customer’s evaluation of prior experience with a supplier, while a LP is based on a forward-looking promise of a reward. The results of the study point to the level of customers’ activity in a LP as a boundary condition of the program’s efficacy. Practical implications RQ affects both attitudinal and behavioral outcomes but through distinct mechanisms. Once a supplier is a preferred one, LP membership strengthens the attitudinal outcome of a relationship. The effect of RQ on company performance is magnified by the level of customer activity in a LP but not by the membership status. Originality/value The theoretical framework integrates transaction costs, relational contract and relational exchange theories to investigate a LP on a transactional market. The study adds to the scant literature on LPs in business-to-business and provides evidence for similarities and differences in comparison to consumer research.

Abstract:
Principally, legal development is a sustainable development, its function as human interest protection, legal aims to reach an order and balance. Order in society guarantees the protection on human interest. Even though, the development on law is directed to create order in society, meaning law and society are interconnected, there are still plenty of legal products that are not able to meet people needs, and one of them is the judicial review on the Act no. 19 year 2013 on Protection and Enforcement to Farmers. This reflects that the Act does not represent social factors. This shows no harmony and benefit connections between the Act no.19 year 2013 as written legal product and society. This phenomenon, then, is analyzed from Theory of John Henry Merryman on Legal Development Strategy (Orthodox and Responsive). The process of making a responsive legal product is a participative one meaning that the process involves greatly the participation of society through social groups and individual in community. Reversely, orthodox legal product is characterized by its centralistic process in which state institutions dominate the process, especially the authority of executives.

Abstract:
Asymptotically correct, linear theory is presented for thin-walled prismatic beams made of generally anisotropic materials. Consistent use of small parameters that are intrinsic to the problem permits a natural description of all thin-walled beams within a common framework, regardless of whether cross-sectional geometry is open, closed, or strip-like. Four “classical” one-dimensional variables associated with extension, twist, and bending in two orthogonal directions are employed. Analytical formulas are obtained for the resulting 4×4 cross-sectional stiffness matrix (which, in general, is fully populated and includes all elastic couplings) as well as for the strain field. Prior to this work no analytical theories for beams with closed cross sections were able to consistently include shell bending strain measures. Corrections stemming from those measures are shown to be important for certain cases. Contrary to widespread belief, it is demonstrated that for such “classical” theories, a cross section is not rigid in its own plane. Vlasov’s correction is shown to be unimportant for closed sections, while for open cross sections asymptotically correct formulas for this effect are provided. The latter result is an extension to a general contour of a result for I-beams previously published by the authors. [S0021-8936(00)03003-8]

Abstract:
In calculating the internal force and deformation of a thin-walled member, the influence of the free torsion rigidity must be considered and it makes the study complicated. Actually, from the analogy relations between the equilibrium equation in the constraint torsion theory of a thin-walled member and that in the plane bending theory of a tension-bending solid bar, the action of the free torsion rigidity can be regarded as a tension effect on a thin-walled member with torsion, i.e. the action can be described as a second-order effect like the tension action in the plane bending theory. Taking cantilever bars for example, the simple calculation method of the internal force and deformation of thin-walled members are deduced by the Taylor series in mathematics, and then verified by ANSYS.

Abstract:
Currently available theories for thin-walled curved beams lack rigorous theoretical development. This paper provides a detailed derivation of an exact theory for biaxial bending and torsion of thin-walled circularly curved beams with any open profile. The derivation is based on two well-accepted assumptions in the theory of thin-walled members. Exact expressions for longitudinal displacement, longitudinal normal stress and shear stress and their resultants are presented. Simplified theories are also given for practical applications.

Abstract:
Because nanocomposites have found augmented use in many industries, the analytical solutions are required to be developed. This paper presents the development of a new analytical method for studying nanotube structures under tension using layer-wise and Eringen theories. Two opposite ends of tubes are subjected to normal forces. Nonlocal governing differential equations are derived and presented. The theoretical developments determine the effect of the geometric and nonlocal constitutive relations for single-walled nanotubes (SWNTs), double-walled nanotubes (DWNTs), and multiwalled nanotubes (MWNTs) under tension loading. It is observed that all displacement components increase with the increase in the nonlocal parameter.

Abstract:
This paper analyzes critical forces and stability of steel thin-walled C-cross-section beams without lateral restraints. Mechanical properties of the rods material are determined by testing standard specimens in a laboratory. Based on the obtained data, the stability analysis of rods is carried out and critical forces are determined: analytically by using the theory of thin-walled rods, numerically by using the finite element method (FEM), and experimentally by testing the C-cross-section beams. The analysis of critical forces and stability shows that the calculation according to the theory of thin-walled rods does not take the effect of local buckling into account, and that the resulting critical global forces do not correspond to the actual behaviour of the rod. The FEM analysis and experimental test show that the simplifications, which have been introduced into the theory of thin-walled rods with open cross-sections, significantly affect final results of the level of the critical force.

Abstract:
Buckling analysis of thin-walled composite channel beams is presented in this paper. The displacement field is based on classical beam theory. Both plane stress and plane strain state are used to achieve constitutive equations. The governing equations are derived from Lagrange’s equations. Ritz method is applied to obtain the critical buckling loads of thin-walled beams. Numerical results are compared to those in available literature and investigate the effects of fiber angle, length-to-height’s ratio, boundary condition on the critical buckling loads of thin-walled channel beams. Keywords: Ritz method; thin-walled composite beams; buckling.

Abstract:
The analytical theory and computational method for thin-walled curved box girders in terms of the shear lag effect and geometric nonlinearity are presented. Based on the potential variational principle and the theory of thin-walled box girders, the geometry nonlinear governing differential equations of thin-walled curved box girder considering the influence of the shear lag effect of flange’s stress and the large deflection is established. The equation is solved by means of Newton-Raphon iteration method. The results from the present method are in good agreement with those of the test and the segment method. The numerical examples are conducted to verify the accuracy and reliability of the present theories. It is shown that the proposed formulae and method could be referenced to the design for the thin-walled curved box girders considering shear lag effect.

Abstract:
A Generalised Beam Theory (GBT) formulation is presented to analyse the structural behaviour of shear deformable thin-walled members with partially stiffened cross-sections located at arbitrary locations along their length. The deformation modes used in the formulation are taken as the dynamic eigenmodes of a planar frame representing the unstiffened cross-section. Constraint equations are derived and implemented in the GBT member analysis to model the influence of rigid stiffeners on the member response. The accuracy of the approach is validated against a shell finite element model developed in Abaqus. A numerical example describing the linear elastic behaviour of partially stiffened thin-walled member is provided to outline the usability and flexibility of the proposed method.

Abstract:
The transverse stresses are studied in thin-walled mono-symmetrical steel I beams. Equations are obtained to calculate these stresses in the three plates of the beam. The effect of these stresses on the beam strength has been analyzed. It is found that these transverse stresses in the flanges need to be considered carefully in strength checks at the supports and at the sections where concentrated loads act if the contact widths at the supports or at the loaded points are small. There are two theories available at present for the stability of thin-walled beams. One is traditional, the other is a more recently presented newer theory. They give quite different buckling moments for mono-symmetrical simply supported beams under transverse loads. This paper presents a newly formulated buckling theory of thin-walled beams based on the general variational principle for stability of solid structures and the plate buckling theory in which the effect of the transverse stresses on the beam stability has been included. This new theory confirmed the traditional formula of the critical moment, but not the more recently presented newer one. The buckling analysis using ANSYS confirmed also the new theory presented in this paper.
