The shifting irrigation reduction in the Hetao Irrigation District and the inability to effectively discharge salts from the system have led to significant changes in salt migration patterns. Based on the integration of long-term field observations (2017–2023) with soil hydrodynamics and solute transport models, this study explored the impact of irrigation reduction on water and salt migration in a cropland–wasteland–lake system. The results indicated that before and after the reduction in irrigation and decline in groundwater levels, the migration rates of groundwater from croplands to wastel

Therefore, we studied the carabid fauna in relation to selected soil parameters on 56 sampling plots situated in 24 wastelands located in the city of Warsaw (Poland). Large urban development around cities often results in vacant, abandoned or unproductive land parcels, sometimes called ‘wastelands’. There are various types of urban vacant land identified as post-industrial, derelict, land without any vegetation and left unattended, natural, and transportation-related vacant lands. The traditional way of collecting the data to study and manage such massive wastelands is hugely time consuming. The machine, a flour mill built in 1908, has been extended and transformed and layered through time. Symbolic of the context, it now lies silent – its core has been removed long ago. With an odour of mystery, the fate of the complex remains vague as the body of history is lost in time. Rich in textures and details, the tectonics represent the values of function and process. Detta har lett till en fragmentering av livsmiljöerna för flera av kulturlandskapets arter.
