Abstract:
Management on modeling and measuring are seldom seen in management research but it is a good measurement to some issues. Environment & Energy issues are important but still no optimal solution. In the study, we use the mathematical model to deal with the management application. Earth pollutions are getting more and more serious. The Environment & Energy issues are two significant problems nowadays. The pollutions on earth are needed to be limited. We should do something on controlling the limited pollutions on earth as possible as we can. The study pays attention on the optimal control of the pollutions by mathematical models. We try to make the optimal solution on the pollutions origin. With the efficient control of the pollutions, the earth can absorb and invert the pollutions. This is the main purpose of the study and the methodology are seldom seem in researches. The study also uses mathematical model to make this issue to be a discussible model. With the mathematical models and Euler equation in the study, we can get the optimal solution in scientific method and it is available for governments to handle with the pollution control. In the study, we take water pollution for example because air and water are two main matters for human beings. If water pollutions are getting serious, we hardly survive. Key words: Euler equation, mathematical models

Abstract:
Massive industrialization causes various pollutions (water, air, land and noise). Until early 2000s, facts proved that the environmental condition of Sidoarjo getting worse because of the high level of pollution in this area. This paper aims to explain industrial pollution, regulation of pollution and the debate of pollution cases in Sidoarjo since 1975-2006. Author uses an environmental history approach to analize this phenomenon, and peruses archival sources, newspapers, magazines and interview. This research finds out that industrial pollutions in Sidoarjo still continuously happen until today. Meanwhile, the govenrment regulations were not effectively decrease industrial pollutions because of collusion practice between industrialists and local government, and even with the military personnel particularly during the New Order. This paper proves that the government regulations and law enforcement about the environment were not resolving the pollution problems in Sidoarjo.

Abstract:
In present scenario huge quantity of waste are produced every day. It contains plastics, waste papers, plastic containers, some of these are degradable, and some of these are non-degradable waste.Non-biodegradable things are present in waste treated with mechanical pulverizing mechanisms and with few of strong chemical. Chemicals such as concentrated Hydrochloric, Sulphuric acids, sulphamic acids and many other hazardous chemicals are used for destroying wastes in simple form or in disperse form. Almost 70% of the waste is being dumped in the soil layer. After certain interval of time compounds present in soils such as salts of the metals and temperature of soil help in decomposing the waste periodically. Due to this process large quantity of soil gets contaminated. In this project we have tried to replace hazardous chemicals with other non-hazardous chemicals and some natural enzymes, which may give same reactions as with toxic chemicals. Objectives may also helps in use of eco friendly chemicals for reducing soil pollution and water pollutions. Hence it will minimize the other impacts on environment such as air pollution, noise pollutions, water pollutions and soil pollutions. All process will carry out under Green Chemistry cycles.

Abstract:
It is customary to detect pollution in a water flow by monitoring the increase of sensitive elements concentrations (NH4+, PO43−, NO3−…). However, concentrations are dependent on the flow rate and these compounds are not conservative, implying a concentration decrease downstream leading to false negative diagnosis of pollution impact. The use of elemental ratios of conservative compounds should diminish these pitfalls. We then thought of the χ/Ca (conductivity/calcium) and Rb/Sr (rubidium/strontium) ratios as water chemical stability indicators to clearly identify and discriminate point from diffuse pollutions. This hypothesis has been tested on 12 brooks located in the basin of Lake Geneva, during 2 hydrological years. The results were compared to the observed land use of the watershed and a biological indicator: the Pollution Sensitivity Index (PSI). The PSI is calculated from diatom taxonomy and evaluates biological quality with a grade ranging from 0 to 20 (bad to excellent). The main results of the research can be summarized as follows. The pollution signal is observable far downstream of the pollution site. Both χ/Ca and Rb/Sr ratios are water quality indicators expressing the stability of water chemistry. They can both be used to detect diffuse and point pollution impact. These indicators provide complementary information: χ/Ca variations increase in case of point pollution; Rb/Sr variations increase when diffuse pollutions occur. The results obtained with the indicators χ/Ca and Rb/Sr agree with biological indicator and observation of the land use. χ/Ca and Rb/Sr ratios represent important tools to identify and discriminate point source pollution from diffuse pollution.

Karlsson, Elin.

Full text
Abstract:
In this study, the presence of PAHs in mussels were investigated. The aim was to examine the occurrence of PAHs, at which levels and if these levels exceeded the limits for human consumption. Some PAHs are toxic to humans as they can give rise to cancer. Wild and cultivated mussels were compared to see if the content of PAHs was different. Mussels from six different test sites were examined. Two wild samples were hand-picked outside Stenungsund, Sweden. Furthermore, wild clams from both Sweden and Denmark were sampled. Also cultured mussels from Ireland and cultured mussels from Sweden were investigated. The results show that fluoranthene, phenanthrene, pyrene, chrysene, benzo(e)pyrene and benzo(b)fluoranthene were the compounds that occurred at the highest levels. The most common alkylated PAHs were 2-methylanthracene-9,10-dione, 2-methylphenanthrene, 2-methylchrysene and 1-methylfluoranthene. The concentrations of oxy-PAHs were low except for anthracene-9,10-dione, benzo(h)quinoline and 2-methylanthracene-9,10-dione. Based on the guideline values available for human consumption, no mussels exceeded the limits. No differences could be seen between wild and cultivated mussels. To sum up, PAHs were found in mussels, but not at such concentration that the mussels would not be approved for human consumption.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Purpose/aim The purpose of the research is to analyze the relationship between water pollution (WP) and the economic development in China. We found a vicious cycle that at the same time as China’s economy has developed; the WP has become the focus of attention, and has also caused huge economic losses. Faced with this situation, this topic is really worth to study. Design/methodology/approach The research adopted a quantitative methodology for the exploration, and conducted a survey through questionnaires which were answered by different people. These respondents come from four areas in China. After having conducted the survey, we selected three typical provinces as representative for each area, and surveyed the basic information about these places. The sample information was calculated by the Chi-square test. The results will be analyzed together with the findings below. Findings The findings indicated that through an analysis of GDP, population, the economic development level and the degree of WP, there is relationship between economic development and WP. When people ignore the problem of WP, and just focus on the economy, the relationship shows that the more developing of economy, the more serious the WP becomes. Originality/value The original idea in our dissertation is to discuss the relationship between economic development and WP in China. The water problem and economic development form a vicious circle. And it seriously affects the whole China. The study has a value for the improvement of the environmental awareness of all the people in China, and advocates the government to develop the economy, and at the same time protect the water sources.

Abstract:
Water pollution is a cornerstone of environmental issues, where it not only harms human health but also has major economic consequences. This study examines whether there is proof of the inverted U – shape Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) between water pollution and GDP per capita for 16 European countries between the years 1992 and 2018. The study is divided into two parts, one part where the focus is on whether there is an EKC for all 16 countries together and the other part examines in which of these 16 countries it is possible to find the EKC. This study uses a dynamic econometric technique, the generalized method of moments (GMM) but also a fixed effects regression model (FEM). Furthermore, an OLS time series analysis has been used to examine the relationship for each country. This study could not find empirical support for the EKC hypothesis between BOD and GDP per capita on European data, but that there is evidence that it exists an inverted U – shape EKC for Albania and North Macedonia.

Abstract:
Since 1950, the plastic production has increased radically from 1.5 to 280 million tons in 2012. The increased production of plastic has led to oceans becoming more polluted than ever. Micro plastic particles originate from large floating plastic debris by undergoing degradation caused by UV-radiation. Due to their small size, density and colour micro plastic particles resemble marine organisms’ natural prey and are therefore ingested. This report discuss the hypotheses that there are micro plastic particles present in oceans outside of the Costa Rican west coast (hypothesis 1), that the location between the South and North Pacific gyres will result in an accumulation of plastic (hypothesis 2) and that different sampling methods will generate different types of data which makes it difficult to compare results (hypothesis 3). A manta trawl was used to collect samples in size range 1-2mm and they were quantified with a microscope. To simplifying transportation and storing, aluminum foil was used instead of glass jars to collect samples. Thereby the need of transferring material from a glass jar to a flat surface for quantifying with microscope was eliminated. One area contained 56.5 % of all gathered particles together. The result also showed that micro plastic particles are present even in protected areas.

Abstract:
Disinfection by-products (DBP) are complex mixtures of toxicants derived from drinking water treatment. Trihalomethanes (THM) and haloacetic acids (HAA) are the most prevalent DBP in chlorinated waters, which are used as surrogates of total DBP in epidemiological studies. Levels of THM in Spain have been among the highest in Europe. DBP have gained attention during the last years because of their ubiquity, multiple exposure routes involved, and the potential burden of cancer associated. In experimental animals, evidence supports a DBP-cancer association. In humans, chronic exposure to total THM has been consistently related to bladder cancer. However, mechanisms of action remain poorly understood. Epigenetic mechanisms, heritable reversible changes which alter gene expression without DNA sequence changes, may explain this association. Although experimental evidence suggests that this is a plausible mechanism of action, the relationship between acute and chronic DBP exposure and gene expression/epigenetic mechanisms has not been explored in human populations.

Abstract:
Stormwater runoff is an important avenue for pollutant transport from impermeable surfaces to surface waters. Consequently, stormwater pollutions require additional treatment processes to achieve water quality goals. Natural sorbents have been demanded and studied for using in water treatment because of their low cost and safety. In this study the use of Acorus Calamus, row Hemp, and procedure Hemp in stormwater treatment was investigated. Results of study in all sorbents with different concentrations and dosage indicated high efficiency to reduce pH. The use of Acorus Calamus for Turbidity, Phosphorus, conductivity and colour resulted increasing amount in different Dosage. In another experiments, using row Hemp, procedure Hemp and Linseed as natural sorbents indicated high efficiency to reduce turbidity of stormwater. Also it is obtained that procedure Hemp has high efficiency to reduce conductivity of stormwater.

Abstract:
DIPLANOAGAP: Distribution of Plastics in the North Atlantic Garbage Patch Ponta Delgada (Portugal) – Malaga (Spain) 17.08. – 12.09.2019 The expedition POS 536 is part of a multi-disciplinary research initiative of GEOMAR investigating the origin, transport and fate of plastic debris from estuaries to the oceanic garbage patches. The main focus will be on the vertical transfer of plastic debris from the surface and near-surface waters to the deep sea and on the processes that mediate this transport. The obtained data will help to develop quantitative models that provide information about the level of plastic pollution in the different compartments of the open ocean (surface, water column, seafloor). Furthermore, the effects of plastic debris on marine organisms in the open ocean will be assessed. The cruise will provide data about the: (1) abundance of plastic debris with a minimum size of 100 μm as well as the composition of polymer types in the water column at different depths from the sea surface to the seafloor including the sediment, (2) abundance and composition of plastic debris in organic aggregates (“marine snow”), (3) in pelagic and benthic organisms (invertebrates and fish) and in fecal pellets, (4) abundance and the identity of biofoulers (bacteria, protozoans and metazoans) on the surface of plastic debris from different water depths, (5) identification of chemical compounds (“additives”) in the plastic debris and in water samples.
