Abstract:
India is one of the largest democratic country in the world. It has a systematic education system which has a huge demand. But after 67 years of independence of India we are away from the goal of universal literacy. Till now, SC ST Woman rural people etc. are considered as deprived social group of our society in every side. They are suffering from a lot of problems and cannot go ahead of course. Government of India be either announces many welfare schemes for weaker section of our society time to time. These schemes could be either central, state specific or a joint collaboration between centre and state. Abstract:
This paper analyzed the use of rape as a weapon in Democratic Republic of Congo conflict zone. Rape usually used by the arm group to weaken their enemy. This strategy did not only targeted to women but also men. Rape gave different effect toward women and men. The purpose of this paper is to explain how rape become the weapon of conflict and their effect to the victims, even men and woman. Feminist perspective used in this paper. In the end, the author found that women have a way to overcome the effect and impact of rape better than men do. Social structure, which placed men in the upper side of women, made the effect and impact on the men who experienced rape victim hard to release their suffering. Therefore, the main goal of this paper is to show how women and men could manage their self as a victim in the conflict zone.

Abstract:
Abstract: This article seeks to answer the question, “Where is God in the midst of suffering?”, through reflecting on the paradigm of discipleship in Mark 9:36-37. Welcoming a child is a parabolic action done by Christ to show that the way to be the greatest is to welcome the weakest or to be the servant of all. A child is used as a paradigm due to his or her low status in the Greco-Roman society. Children had no right, seen as properties rather than persons, and thus equated to slaves. Therefore, welcoming a child means welcoming the weakest of the society, and doing so means to welcome Christ himself and the one who sent him. The suffering caused by COVID-19 makes the whole world suffer, yet it also creates a bigger gap between the rich and the poor, the strong and the weak. A reflection on the paradigm invites Christians to side with the weakest and those who are in need, hoping that the kingdom of God will be ushered into this suffering world.

Abstract:
In this paper, a stride detector algorithm combined with a technique inspired by zero velocity update (ZUPT) is proposed to reconstruct the trajectory of a pedestrian from an ankle-mounted inertial device. This innovative approach is based on sensor alignment and machine learning. It is able to detect 100% of both normal walking strides and more than 97% of atypical strides such as small steps, side steps, and backward walking that existing methods can hardly detect. This approach is also more robust in critical situations, when for example the wearer is sitting and moving the ankle or when the wearer is bicycling (less than two false detected strides per hour on average). As a consequence, the algorithm proposed for trajectory reconstruction achieves much better performances than existing methods for daily life contexts, in particular in narrow areas such as in a house. The computed stride trajectory contains essential information for recognizing the activity (atypical stride, walking, running, and stairs). For this task, we adopt a machine learning approach based on descriptors of these trajectories, which is shown to be robust to a large of variety of gaits. We tested our algorithm on recordings of healthy adults and children, achieving more than 99% success. The algorithm also achieved more than 97% success in challenging situations recorded by children suffering from movement disorders. Compared to most algorithms in the literature, this original method does not use a fixed-size sliding window but infers this last in an adaptive way.

Abstract:
This study included the role of Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. cremoris in oral diseases such as periodontitis. Material and Method. Isolation and identification of Leuconostoc mesenteroides subsp. cremoris from a saliva sample of twenty patients wearing fixed dental prostheses suffering from periodontitis followed by estimating susceptibility generally to the most common antibiotics and specifically to chlorhexidine (CHX) to determine the MIC of CHX and also screening of the strength of biofilm production under aerobic and anaerobic conditions; here, the study included six groups: Group I: screening of biofilm formation under aerobic condition, Group II: screening the MIC of CHX effect on biofilm formation under aerobic condition, Group III: screening of the MIC of CHX effect on preformed biofilm under aerobic condition, Group IV: screening of biofilm formation under anaerobic condition, Group V: screening of MIC of CHX effect on biofilm formation under anaerobic condition, and Group VI: screening of MIC of CHX effect on preformed biofilm under anaerobic condition. Results. The results showed that about 5 (25%) isolates were identified as L. mesenteroides subsp. cremoris, while 75% are other isolates. Furthermore, susceptibility results to antibiotic showed the sensitivity to penicillin (100%), azithromycin (100%), ciprofloxacin (100%), tetracycline (100%), gentamicin (100%), doxycycline (100%), vancomycin (100%), ofloxacin (60%), chloramphenicol (80%), ampicillin (80%), and cefoxitin (60%). On the other side, the biofilm production assays revealed that all isolates were moderate biofilm former under the aerobic and anaerobic conditions but for the biofilm treated with MIC of CHX, the current study noticed that the strength of the biofilm became weaker in aerobic and anaerobic conditions; regardless, the strength of the biofilm under anaerobic conditions was higher than in that under aerobic conditions, with no significant differences at p ≤ 0.05 depending on the statistical analysis ( T -test) before and after the treatment with MIC of CHX in aerobic and anaerobic conditions. Conclusions. The presence of mesenteroides subsp. cremoris in the oral cavity is due to eating foods and vegetables; based on the strength of the biofilm and sensitivity tests, the isolates have less pathogenicity in the oral cavity due to the weakness of the biofilm production and the lack of resistance to antibiotics.

Abstract:
Nowadays, many big cities are suffering from heavy air pollution and continuous haze weather. Compared with the threat on physical health, the influence of haze on people’s mental health is much less discussed in the current literature. Emotion is one of the most important indicators of mental health. To understand the negative impact of haze weather on the emotion of the people, we conducted an investigation based on historical weather records and microblog data in Tianjin, China. Specifically, an emotional thesaurus was generated with a microblog corpus collected from sample data. Based on the thesaurus, the public emotion under haze was statistically described. Then, through correlation analysis and comparative study, the relation and seasonal variation of haze and negative emotion of the public were well discussed. According to the study results, there was indeed a correlation between haze and negative emotion of the public, but the strength of this relationship varied under different conditions. The level of air pollution and weather context were both important factors that influence the mental effects of haze, and diverse patterns of negative emotion expression were demonstrated in different seasons of a year. Finally, for the benefit of people’s mental health under haze, recommendations were given for haze control from the side of government.

Abstract:
Drug interaction is the change of a drug's effects by the preceding and/or concurrent administration of a different substance (precipitant drug). Drug interactions may either intensify or weaken the effects that one or both medications are supposed to have. Any drug's therapeutic, preventative, or diagnostic capabilities may change as a result. A major contributing factor to the prevalence and occurrence of adverse medication responses and adverse drug events might be drug interactions. Patients receiving drug combinations or polypharmacy or suffering from co-morbid diseases like diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer, fungal infections, and neurodegenerative disorders have a much higher rate of occurrence and incidence of drug interactions. As these patients receive prolonged and multiple treatments, the risk of drug interactions rises. Conclusion: Drug interactions are more likely to occur in diabetes patients who are also getting a mix of medications for diabetic complications. As a result, the frequency of drug interactions is fast increasing. Because of its increasing incidence and the corresponding rise in morbidity and mortality, diabetes mellitus has been regarded as a major public health concern globally. The major goal of this review study is to highlight the different medication interactions that may occur between drugs and foods, as well as to record any unfavorable side effects of other treatments used in conjunction with antidiabetic drugs in diabetic patients.

Abstract:
This article aims to unveil the caustic reality of racial bigotry that is the root of suffering for the people of minority races. Racism is not inherently benign, but the presence of a sense of superiority, one of its defining characteristics, exacerbates the situation. The novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini delves at the discriminatory actions between Pashtuns and Hazaras, portraying racism as a construct that arises solely from human distinctions. This article argues that racial discrimination leads to depression, helplessness, and low self-esteem among people of the weakest races, while on the other hand, it encourages people of superior races to boast about their own rigidity and principles. Khaled Hosseini portrays a dystopian society, and the lives of its inhabitants revolve around one thing: fear of intimacy. The qualitative method is adopted to mirror the conflicts, both internal and external, that force the so-called superior and inferior races to maintain an invisible but impenetrable wall between them. This article delineates the harmful side of racial bigotry, which leads people to judge others and develop a tendency to justify destructive actions that make people's lives miserable. This article also tries to show how racial bigotry, the legacy of colonialism, has grasped the minds of the people and made them follow only the hollow principles of racism, which are seen through their behaviours and distorted thoughts.

Abstract:
Kumaranashan is one of the most popular figures in Malayalam Literature. He was a champion of the underprivileged and a great visionary. He gave a new direction to the classically structured Malayalam poetry through his exposure to English Bangali and other streams of literature. He also played a pivotal role in introducing the spirit of modernity, revivalism and renaissance in Malayalam literature. Ashan"s works are widely translated into many languages and many of them are relevant and universally significant even today. The present paper is an attempt to read Ashan"s The Fallen flower; one of his most creative and thematically challenging works. While, the symbol of flowers is mostly used by poets of various generations to deliberate upon different shades of the concept of beauty, Ashan here uses the symbol of fallen flower to dwell upon the evanescent nature of human life and to create a strong moral vision in his readers. Though Ashan is widely studied and discussed in Malayalam, an analysis of the present kind attains great significance in English, especially in the present context of postcolonial exchanges and universal appreciation. The researcher uses available critical materials and translations to analyse, the philosophical, technical, social and political relevance of the work.

Abstract:
This article evaluates two theories that seek to explain the outcomes of asymmetric conflicts. It uses evidence from a case study of the Arauco War (1536-1883). The war resulted, unlike most other instances of European colonization, in the victory of the weaker side. The first theory argues that in asymmetrical warfare, opponents choose between direct (conventional) and indirect (guerrilla) approaches; the stronger side is more likely to win same-approach interactions, while the weaker side is more likely to prevail in different-approach interactions. The second theory advances the claim that when armies become mechanized, they gather less intelligence from the ground, and are therefore less likely to solve the information problem - telling combatants apart from noncombatants. The analysis of the Arauco War shows the limitations of the first theory: the stronger side can easily win some different-approach (indirectdirect) interactions, while the weaker can win same-approach (indirect-indirect) ones. The study lends support to the second theory, especially once it is generalized to include cultural differences as factors that exacerbate the identification problem.

Abstract:
Objective: We sought to determine the relative value of lower extremity muscle strength as a predictor of discharge function and length of stay of patients with stroke. Methods: We studied 72 patients undergoing inpatient rehabilitation after a stroke and documented their outcome using length of stay and function [as measured by the Func tional Independence Measure (FIM) at discharge]. Results: Knee-extension force and the total force of four lower extremity muscle actions (hip flexion, knee extension, knee flexion, and ankle dorsiflexion) were correlated significantly with discharge FIM and length of stay. The correlations involving the actions of the weaker side were higher. Admission FIM was also correlated significantly with discharge FIM and length of stay. Previous stroke and age were correlated significantly with discharge FIM but not length of stay. The set of variables offering the best explanation of discharge FIM (R = 0.867) was admission FIM, admission FIM squared, age, and total force of the weaker side. The set of variables offering the best explanation of length of stay (R = 0.812) was knee- extension force of the weaker side squared, admission FIM, admission FIM squared, and age. Conclusions: Lower extremity muscle force of the weaker side on admission has value as a predictor of function at discharge and length of stay for patients with stroke admitted to inpatient rehabilitation. Muscle force, therefore, is a reasonable target of measurement and treatment. Knowledge of muscle force on admission can assist clini cians, patients, families, and others to anticipate patient outcomes after rehabilitation.

"It is a pity that the conflict between the higher intellect and the weaker Ava arises," says Ken, a Western scholar. The Harvest of Tragedy P.XIV (1956), in his opinion, is an appropriate interpretation of Kovalan's suffering. The narrators refer to the series "Avalam Neethu" as "Let go of dirt, ava etc." Dirt, ava etc. are the major barriers to attaining a life of virtual alignment. It is the religious view that those who commit such crimes end up in worldly misery and lose their future well-being. Too bad - cause dirt etc. The word misery refers to suffering. “Virtue is a claim to political survival, The high ones will reach Pathini by text” These are the three great truths that the statue conveys. It is natural to be surrounded by suffering when one deviates from such virtue. The three great facts present the reasons why coffee monsters suffer. The misery they will achieve is foreshadowed by nightmares. This article explores the plight of Kannaki, who reveals Silappathikaram.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTDrawing on data for 60 Australian Commonwealth government bureaucracies 1976–86, this paper explores what measurable consequences for bureaucratic structure can be associated with staffing and spending cutbacks. It looks at cutbacks both at government-wide and at individual-bureaucracylevel, on the basis of a casualty list intended to portray the different dimensions of relative bureaucratic ‘suffering’ more systematically than has hitherto been done in the cutback management literature. It then explores associations between measures of cutbacks and indicators of structural consequences, both at government-wide and departmental level, relating that to the debate as to whether ‘leaner means weaker’ in government cutbacks. The ‘leaner means weaker’ view of bureaucratic cutbacks is hard to sustain from these data.

Abstract:
Although the general concept of suffering care includes palliative care technology for terminally ill person to alleviate his pain, it is much more holistic including emotional, spiritual and other life dimension. This inclusive concept of caring can be possible with the fundamental reflection on the human suffering. Far from the concept of pain understood in the context of materialist medical approach, human suffering has many dimensions including aesthetic, psychological, and religious: its meaning is holistic. With this perspective, the experience of the suffering client must be reconsidered before one starts with an objective side or a subjective side of suffering. Indeed, the actual strategies of suffering care can be different depending on the definition of human suffering accepted by practicians. In this caring perspective, the body, mind and spirit are integrated so the objectivity and subjectivity can merge; the extended awareness with inner resource or energy, and the positive thinking about the God is meaningful especially for dying person, his family members and the caring team.Despite this impending importance of the inclusive understanding of human suffering, the actual nursing practice still does not reflect this growing understanding of human suffering. This approach, which tried to pursuit the more fundamental meaning of human suffering, can contribute to the development of nursing education and practice which pay attention to the more inclusive view of human suffering.

Abstract:
In this editorial, we challenge the current understanding of “Living Well with Dementia.” Such discourse introduces the possibility of not living well with the condition or even of “living badly with dementia.” Numerous words might be relevant here – grief, pain, anguish, depression – but in this editorial we consciously use the word “suffering.” This term is used for two reasons; one, because it captures the attributes of other more limited words, and, two because the language of “suffering” is contentious, making it suitable for debate. We speak of suffering, not to deny the positive aspects of life with dementia or to concentrate just on the negative, but to redress the balance that is disturbed by a relentlessly positive view of living with the condition. Our aim is to promote a more realistic understanding of the dementia experience, one based on actualities and evidence rather than presumption and sentiment.

Abstract:
Objective To investigate the abnormal expressions of Tie1 on the valves of great saphenous varicose vein, and to discuss the relationship between the phenomenon and pathogenesis of varicose vein of lower extremity. Methods Varicose veins group 18 samples, normal control group 14 samples. Immunohistochemistry staining has investigated the expression of CD31 and Tie1 in the first valves of great saphenous veins. Semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) has checked mRNA expression of Tie1. Western blot has checked the expression of Tie1 protein in venous valves. Results In normal control group valves, there was no difference between proximal and distal sides endothelium, which expressing CD31 in both valvar basement and valve cusp (positive endothelial cells [ECs] percentage: P > 0.05, P > 0.05). However, the endothelium of the proximal side demonstrates Tie1 stronger than distal side in valvar basement (positive ECs percentage: P < 0.05), which was not found at valve cusp (positive ECs percentage: P > 0.05). In varicose veins group, the endothelium of proximal side cells expresses CD31 weaker than distal side at both valvar basement and valve cusp (positive ECs percentage: P < 0.05, P < 0.05) besides the morphological alteration of valves. Moreover, it expresses Tie1 much weaker than diatal side (positive ECs percentage: P < 0.01). Semi-quantitative RT-PCR showed that valves of varicose veins group expressed Tie1 much weaker than the normal control group ( P < 0.01). Western blot could not detect the expression of Tie1 in venous valves. Conclusion The decreasing expression of Tie1 may play an important role in the pathogenesis of primary lower extremity varicose veins.

Abstract:
Numerous anthropological studies on social control and legal order in indigenous or post-colonial communities draw attention to a recurrent tendency to resort to arbitration in legal controversies involving women. It has been observed that private methods of settlement engaging a woman on at least one side are more likely to involve kin as the opposing party. These variables are usually explained by women’s greater inclination to conciliate, their concern for the stability of existing relationships, especially within the family, as well as by their social and legal standing. The question that arises is to what extent we can treat these findings as cross-culturally valid and therefore also verifiable for societies functioning in different temporal and geographical frameworks. In this article, we would like to offer a more restrained stance towards the seductive interpretations of legal anthropology and review the image of women in the process of private dispute resolution in Byzantine Egypt. Do women in fact lean towards a more ‘amicable’, less intrusive, or even – in line with the terminology of power – ‘weaker’ conflict resolution methods? What role do the social relations linking the disputing parties play in the choice of settlement measure? Is arbitration always a preferred remedy compared to ‘last resort’ state jurisdiction?

Objectives: We hypothesized that the use of orthosis affects grip strength in persons with carpal tunnel syndrome in a way that supports preference for custom-made orthoses with neutral wrist position over prefabricated orthoses. Study design: Experimental. Methods: Comparisons of grip strength for three types of grips (cylindrical, lateral, and pinch) were made across orthosis types (custom-made, prefabricated with wrist in 20° of flexion, and none) on the affected side immediately after fitting, as well as between affected side without orthosis and nonaffected side. Results: Orthosis type did not significantly affect grip strength ( p = 0.661). Cylindrical grip was by far the strongest, followed by lateral and pinch grips ( p < 0.050). The grips of the affected side were weaker than those of the nonaffected side ( p = 0.002). Conclusions: In persons with carpal tunnel syndrome, neither prefabricated orthoses with 20° wrist extension nor custom-made wrist orthoses with neutral wrist position influenced grip strength of the affected hand. Compared to the nonaffected side, the grips of the affected side were weaker. Clinical relevance The findings from this study can be used to guide application of orthoses to patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Abstract:
Three children suffering from facial asymmetry were observed annually using facial stereophotogrammetry before, during, and after their general skeletal adolescent growth spurt. Stereophotogrammetry allows accurate three-dimensional measurements between identifiable facial landmarks. Five pairs of bilateral parameters connecting external canthi and angles of the mouth to alae and tip of nose, and to each other, allowed a positive sign (right-side larger) or a negative (left-side larger) assessment of parameter asymmetry, Their total, taking sign into account, assessed mid-facial asymmetry. Serial observation showed that: (1) in patient no. 1 suffering from post-traumatic condylar hypoplasia, the facial asymmetry resolved; (2) in patient no. 2 suffering from unilateral facial hypoplasia, the asymmetry, which was severe, reduced with adolescence, but did not resolve; (3) in patient no. 3 suffering from fibro-osseous dysplasia of left maxilla, the asymmetry was reduced by surgery, but the full effects of the surgery were not measurable until over 1 year after operation: subsequently, the asymmetry began to increase again.

Abstract:
Background: Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disease caused by damage to the cluster of small blood vessels in the kidney. Nephrotic syndrome causes misfunctioning of the kidney that affects metabolism of the body significantly. It causes complications of blood clots, high blood cholesterol and elevated blood triglycerides, poor nutrition, high blood pressure, acute kidney failure, chronic kidney disease and various infections.
Objectives: The present investigation was objected to study prevalence rate, side effect of prescribed drugs and co-morbidity associated with current drug therapy in patient suffering with nephrotic syndrome.
Methodologies: The present observational study was conducted on 43 nephrotic syndrome patients. These patients were evaluated for effects and side effects of prescribed drugs. Co-morbidity related to drug current prescribed was assessed and prescribed drugs for co-morbidity for also assessed. Prevalence rate of nephrotic syndrome was calculated among the all investigated patients. Patients were investigated who signed consent form. Patients above 18 years of age were excluded from study.
Results: The involved 43 patients of nephrotic syndrome. These patients were prescribed with Corticosteroids (27%), Immunomodulator (8%), Immunosuppressant (5%), Diuretics (20%), ACE Inhibitors (5%), Angiotensin II receptor antagonist (5%). Co-morbidity were related to current drugs were observed and it was found that 9 (20%) patients were suffering from asthma, 3 (7%) patients were suffering epilepsy, 1 (2%) patients were suffering from inflammatory bowel disease, 5 (11%) patients were suffering from other diseases along with nephrotic syndrome. Prevalence rate of nephrotic syndrome was found 2.38% in patients.
Conclusion: The present study revealed that the current prescribed drugs for nephrotic syndrome causes side effects that are skin infection, behavioral changes, blood in urine and decreased neutrophils. And co-morbidity of asthma, epilepsy, inflammatory bowel disease and other disease were present in patients of nephrotic syndrome. 1 patient out of every 42 investigated patients was suffering from nephrotic syndrome.

Background: The incidence of diabetic neuropathy (DNP) is a prominent complication for people suffering from diabetes. DNP is a common complication in patients suffering from diabetes, and it is affecting approximately more than 50% of the population where the nerves are affected by high glucose levels. Objective: The aim of the review paper is to inspect the complications, causes, diagnosis, pathogenesis, treatments, pathways, and management of DNP as all these factors play important role in the management of DNP. This paper also aims to identify the potential cures and the side effects if any associated with the commonly used treatments in conditions of DNP.Methods: The data collected for reviewing was by studying the published researchers from PubMed, Web of Science, Medline, Science Direct, Excerpta Medica Database, Cochrane, Elton B. Stephens Company (EBSCO), and Google open access publications from the year 1995–2017.Results: We have concluded on an interpretation that the drugs for treating DNP are managing the pain and controlling glucose levels but are reportedly causing major side effects. Hence, attention must be given to the potential risk factors for neuropathy and development of formulations with minimal side effects and a potential cure. We have focused on the recent researches, emerging problems, and techniques for identifying the patients suffering from DNP.Conclusion: The incidence of DNP is a prominent complication for people suffering from diabetes. Although the treatment available currently focusses on the pain management in DNP, attention must be given to the potential risk factors for neuropathy and development of formulations with minimal side effects and a potential cure.

AbstractMany older adults succeed in finding meaning in life, even in deep old age. There is, however, a minority of older adults, in particular among the oldest old, who feel that life no longer makes sense: they suffer from the consequences of old age, explicated in feelings of loneliness, social isolation and disconnectedness, and fears for (further) decline and dependency. This article seeks to address this darker side of ageing. It discusses probing questions including: what can we learn from the stories of those who severely struggle with the consequences of old age? And how might these stories guide us in finding ways how we – both as fellow human beings and as a society – can face and respond to suffering in old age? To achieve this, this article first briefly outlines the scholarship on suffering and explores the idea of suffering from life in old age. Secondly, drawing on empirical work, it reflects on the phenomenological question: what is it like to suffer from life in old age? What does it mean to live with a deep sense that life is no longer worth living? Then, thirdly, building on these insights, the aim is to work towards developing an ethics of suffering that emphasises the primacy of witnessing. It is argued that in the confrontation with manifestations of meaninglessness and suffering that cannot be solved or remedied, we need bystanders who are willing to name, to narrate, to give voice and connect to these experiences of suffering.

Abstract:
The article builds on James Morrow’s theoretical formulation on asymmetric alliances, which contends that alliances are formed as a result of a security–autonomy trade-off between great powers and minor powers. It expands Morrow’s theory by showing that in the absence of a common threat or shared interests, the trade-off tends to leave a deficit in a weaker state’s net benefits from the alliance. I argue that side payments fill in the deficit in gains for weaker states. The article highlights the importance of domestic political constraints in shaping leaders’ alliance policies. I use the US–Pakistan alliance as a case study to probe the argument. The analysis presented here shows that the alliance, formed in 1954, was a result of a strategic trade-off between the United States and Pakistan. The case provides support to the argument that side payments played a crucial role in cementing the alliance.

Abstract:
AbstractThis study examines the characteristics of tropical cyclone (TC) lightning distribution and its relationship with TC intensity and environmental vertical wind shear (VWS) over the western North Pacific. It uses data from the World Wide Lightning Location Network and operational global analysis data from National Centers for Environmental Prediction Final Analysis for 230 TCs during 2005–17. The spatial distribution of TC lightning frequency and normalized lightning rate demonstrates that the VWS dominates the azimuthal distribution of the lightning. The flashes are active in the downshear-left side of the inner core and the downshear-right side of the outer region. TC lightning distribution for various VWS strengths and TC intensities are further investigated. As VWS increases, the flashes of lightning become more asymmetric and exhibit a higher proportion at the outer region of the downshear side. Moreover, the same features occur as TC intensity decreases. A series of composite analyses indicated that stronger TCs with weaker VWS exhibit a more compact and symmetric lightning distribution, whereas weaker TCs with stronger VWS have a more asymmetric lightning distribution. Furthermore, the TC lightning distribution and its association with TC intensity changes are also examined for three lead times. Results show that among the composite analyses of five TC intensity changes, the lightning distribution for rapid intensification type exhibits more inner-core lightning and is more axisymmetric than the distributions for other categories. These features result from favorable environmental conditions comprising greater upper-level divergence, sea surface temperature, maximum potential intensity, and weaker vertical wind shear.

Abstract:
AbstractDiabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the comorbidities most susceptible to COVID-19 infection. The morbidity and mortality rates for diabetic patients who are infected with COVID-19 are also very high. This is related to blood sugar levels, immunity, and DM complications. The study aimed to describe DM as a comorbid of COVID-19. The study applied a scoping review method, by searching for articles through PubMed and ProQuest. The inclusion criteria are articles published in 2019-2021, and the respondents are diabetic patients. The results show that the average age of diabetic patients who infected COVID-19 was 64.24 years old, and mostly (52.7%) were female. Type 2 DM is most infected compared to other types of DM. The ACE-2 receptor owned by DM patients is the entry point for the SARS-CoV-2 virus into the human body. Blood glucose levels are a factor in the severity of COVID-19 patients with DM. Moreover, it is necessary to consider the administration of antidiabetics in the setting of COVID-19 related to the risk of hypoglycemia or other side effects. The progression of COVID-19 in patients with co-morbidities of diabetes mellitus is influenced by the stability of blood glucose levels and length of suffering. Therefore, it is recommended to monitor blood sugar levels regularly. For diabetic patients, it is advisable to always maintain health protocols because hyperglycemia conditions can stimulate chronic inflammation and weaken the immunity system against infection. Keywords: Comorbid, COVID-19, Diabetes Mellitus, Scoping Review

Abstract:
BackgroundWe investigated whether a new non-benzodiazepine anti-anxiety drug, alpidem, produces weaker withdrawal symptoms than alprazolam.MethodUnder a double-blind procedure, 122 patients suffering from general anxiety disorders were randomly allocated to either alpidem (50 mg, three times a day) or alprazolam (0.5 mg, three times a day) for six weeks, followed by a two-week placebo withdrawal phase. The diagnosis of withdrawal syndrome (WS) was made, in blind conditions, on the basis of the Withdrawal Symptom Check List (WSCL), after one or two weeks of discontinuation of active treatment.ResultsThe WS occurred significantly less frequently in the alpidem group (n = 10, 18%) than in the alprazolam group (n = 26, 48%). Typical withdrawal symptoms on the WSCL were also significantly less severe (P = 0.044) in the alpidem group compared with the alprazolam group.ConclusionsAlpidem may be a valid alternative to current benzodiazepine anxiolytic therapy because it produces fewer and weaker withdrawal symptoms than alprazolam and is better tolerated.

Diplomacy, defined as formal communication and bargaining between states, is subject to limits that diplomatic theory must demarcate and understand. This article compares state incentives and disincentives (including rejection of negotiation as well as refusal to concede) affecting the decision whether to negotiate in six cases of interstate crisis between militarily unequal antagonists. While it has been argued that asymmetric powers are more likely to reach negotiating agreement than their symmetric counterparts, with weaker states doing surprisingly well, that finding is questioned here in the crisis context. For example, the militarily inferior antagonist, attracted to diplomacy as an alternative to war, might well anticipate inferior results from direct negotiations. The weaker antagonist’s unwillingness in these cases to negotiate with a strong opponent suppressed diplomacy, but great power support for the weaker side, and the stronger power’s lack of war readiness, added to the stronger antagonist’s willingness to negotiate.

Abstract In this study, tensile and cupping tests were carried out aimed at dissimilar high-strength steel laser tailor-welded blanks(TWBs) of DP590-TRIP590 and DP590-HC420, in order to study deformation ability and material flow rule. The influence of welding position on cupping performance was also analyzed. Results indicate that the welding seam and its location have a significant effect on the deformation capacity of the TWBs. The tensile properties of TWBs are primarily governed by the weaker base metal, and TWBs tensile strength is close to the weaker base metal. The DP590-TRIP590 TWBs(x=0) exhibit the highest ductility compared to those with other welding positions. The fracture occurs randomly on each side of TWBs(x=0 and ±8), whereas all fractures happen on the base metal with a larger proportion for TWBs(x=±16). For DP590-HC420 TWBs, the overall ductility is governed by the proportion of HC420. Fracture always occurs on the HC420 base metal, in which side material flow is more pronounced.

The subject of this article is the dark or “shadow” side of working with dying and bereaved people in hospice and palliative care services, and the interplay of complex personal, professional, and organizational issues that can influence both the quality of patient care and the well-being of staff. Examples of how support needs have been identified and managed are drawn from the author's extensive experience as a social worker, educator, and consultant. It is argued that current understandings of staff stress lack insight into the dark side of hospice care and fail to appreciate the depth of emotional anguish that repeated exposure to human suffering can bring.

Abstract:
Abstract Mice are becoming an increasingly popular model for investigating the neural substrates of visual processing and higher cognitive functions. To validate the translation of mouse visual attention and sensorimotor processing to humans, we compared their performance in the same visual task. Mice and human participants judged the orientation of a grating presented on either the right or left side in the visual field. To induce shifts of spatial attention, we varied the stimulus probability on each side. As expected, human participants showed faster RTs and a higher accuracy for the side with a higher probability, a well-established effect of visual attention. The attentional effect was only present in mice when their response was slow. Although the task demanded a judgment of grating orientation, the accuracy of the mice was strongly affected by whether the side of the stimulus corresponded to the side of the behavioral response. This stimulus–response compatibility (Simon) effect was much weaker in humans and only significant for their fastest responses. Both species exhibited a speed–accuracy trade-off in their responses, because slower responses were more accurate than faster responses. We found that mice typically respond very fast, which contributes to the stronger stimulus–response compatibility and weaker attentional effects, which were only apparent in the trials with slowest responses. Humans responded slower and had stronger attentional effects, combined with a weak influence of stimulus–response compatibility, which was only apparent in trials with fast responses. We conclude that spatial attention and stimulus–response compatibility influence the responses of humans and mice but that strategy differences between species determine the dominance of these effects.

Abstract:
The major El Niño of 2015/16 brought significantly less precipitation to California than previous events of comparable strength, much to the disappointment of residents suffering through the state’s fourth consecutive year of severe drought. Here, California’s weak precipitation in 2015/16 relative to previous major El Niño events is investigated within a 40-member ensemble of atmosphere-only simulations run with historical sea surface temperatures (SSTs) and constant radiative forcing. The simulations reveal significant differences in both California precipitation and the large-scale atmospheric circulation between 2015/16 and previous strong El Niño events, which are similar to (albeit weaker than) the differences found in observations. Principal component analysis indicates that these ensemble-mean differences were likely related to a pattern of tropical SST variability with a strong signal in the Indian Ocean and western Pacific and a weaker signal in the eastern equatorial Pacific and subtropical North Atlantic. This SST pattern was missed by the majority of forecast models, which could partly explain their erroneous predictions of above-average precipitation in California in 2015/16.

Abstract:
AbstractDetailed mechanisms for frontogenesis/frontolysis of the sea surface temperature (SST) front in the Agulhas Return Current (ARC) region are investigated using outputs from a high-resolution coupled general circulation model. The SST front is maintained throughout the year through an approximate balance between frontolysis by surface heat flux and frontogenesis by horizontal advection. Although a southward (northward) cross-isotherm flow on the northern (southern) side of the front is weaker than a strong eastward along-isotherm current in the frontal region, this cross-isotherm confluent flow advects warmer (cooler) temperature toward the SST front north (south) of the front and acts as the dominant frontogenesis mechanism. In addition, stronger (weaker) frontogenesis in austral summer (winter) is attributed to the stronger (weaker) cross-isotherm confluence, which may be linked to seasonal variations of the Agulhas Current, ARC, and Antarctic Circumpolar Current. On the other hand, the contribution from entrainment is relatively small, because frontolysis by larger (smaller) entrainment velocity on the northern (southern) side opposes frontogenesis by less (more) effective cooling associated with a thicker (thinner) mixed layer and smaller (larger) temperature difference between the mixed layer and entrained water in the northern (southern) region. To gain further insight into the time-mean cross-isotherm confluent flow in the frontal region, the vorticity balance is examined. It is shown that anticyclonic (cyclonic) vorticity advection north (south) of the front by the mean cross-isotherm confluence is in balance with the sum of cyclonic (anticyclonic) vorticity advection by the mean along-isotherm flow and cross-isotherm eddy–mean interaction.

Abstract:
We present a theoretical study of the effects from symmetric modulation of the envelop wave function on quantum transport in square quantum wells (QWs). Within the variational approach we obtain analytic expressions for the carrier distribution and their scattering in symmetric two-side doped square QWs. Roughness-induced scattering are found significantly weaker than those in the asymmetric one-side doped counterpart. Thus, we propose symmetric modulation of the wave function as an efficient method for enhancement of the roughness-limited QW mobility. Our theory is able to well reproduce the recent experimental data about low-temperature transport of electrons and holes in two-side doped square QWs, e.g., the mobility dependence on the channel width, which have not been explained so far.

Abstract:
3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is a psychostimulant, which was synthesized for the first time in 1912 in Germany and later forgotten until the 1970s. Then due to its empathogenic and anti-anxiety qualities it was rediscovered as a psychotherapy adjunct, especially for patients requiring treatment for anxiety disorders and suffering after traumatic events. MDMA's positive effects and lack of negative side effects explains why its use persisted in psychiatric “underground” even after delegalization in 1985, caused by overuse for recreational purposes. Nowadays scientists in many countries conduct basic research, as well as clinical trials to confirm its positive effect as a adjunct therapy especially for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and its relatively small side effects. Until now MDMA has been legalized only in Australia in 2023 for use in psychotherapy of patients suffering from severe PTSD.

Abstract:
The authors describe the case of an 80-year-old male patient suffering from multiple skin tumours, currently undergoing dermatological care. In addition bluish discolouration on his face was observed which appeared after five years of starting amiodarone treatment. Amiodarone medication was introduced after atrial fibrillation and supraventricular tachycardia. Histological examination suggested pigmentation caused by amiodarone in the tissue. Following the literature overview, the authors describe the process inducing the symptoms in detail, and focus on the broad array of adverse effects of amiodarone, a widely used and highly efficient antiarrhytmic drug.

Abstract:
Abstract In Re: AB (Termination of Pregnancy), the Court of Appeal was asked to consider an assumption made about the future living arrangements of a pregnant patient, and the weight to be ascribed to her wishes and feelings when she had no real understanding of her predicament. This commentary explores the importance of taking into account the perspective of the patient, even if suffering from a mental disorder, and it will analyse the existing common law to show that the weaker the ability of the patient to form her own wishes and feelings, the more appropriate it would be to rely on the remaining evidence.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to elaborate on the differences between price partitioning and drip pricing with regard to their influence on price recall, purchase intentions and fairness perceptions. In many industries, sellers advertise low prices and reveal other surcharges sequentially as the customer goes through the buying process. To date, little is known about how these sequential, or drip-pricing, techniques influence consumer behavior. Design/methodology/approach – The study is based on an experimental between-subjects design (N = 95) with two groups. The data collection was conducted with a mixed scenario/stimuli-based online survey for a virtual travel agent. Findings – The findings reveal that underestimation of the total price of an offering is significantly weaker when prices are presented sequentially rather than partitioned. In addition to reduced purchase intentions, drip pricing may negatively affect fairness perceptions when consumers feel deceived by the seller. Originality/value – The study replicates findings of previous research on price partitioning but is one of the first empirical studies to examine the influence of sequence in price presentations. With this focus, the study opens up new avenues for pricing research.
