The increasing use of 3D-printed PEEK materials in load-bearing applications necessitates a comprehensive evaluation of their wear characteristics and hardness under dynamic loading conditions. This study investigates the wear loss, coefficient of friction, and hardness values of PEEK materials with four distinct surface patterns: Line, Grid, Cubic, and Hexagon. Controlled experiments revealed that the Line and Hexagon patterns exhibited the lowest wear loss (0.004 grams), indicating superior wear resistance, while the Cubic pattern showed the highest wear loss (0.009 grams). The determination of actual stresses over the tool-workpiece interface has long been a matter of debate among researchers. Evaluation of the nature and the geometry of the wear contact area were always associated with many, sometime impractical, assumptions. The indeterministic fashion of edge wear and deformation requires a more realistic way to predict the actual wear contact area. In the current study, many wear area patterns are proposed considering the different wear modes of the cutting edge. Thiemermann, Andre, and Florian Groß. Identification of logistics land and examination of location patterns – the Rhineland metropolitan region case. Preprint, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.26128/2024.18.

Abstract:
In Germany identification of logistics land is done rarely, among other things due to anonymization of employment and building data. The paper at hands presents a method for identifying logistics land based on publicly available data, in order to present an image of the existing spatial structure of logistics land. Identified spatial hotspots are mostly located in Metropolises/Regiopolises and their suburbs, along highways in areas with flat relief and in vicinity to large inland teminals/inland harbours. Correlation analyses show, that the area of identified logistics land shows only weak but

Abstract:
Egypt has emerged as a key adopter and regional diffuser of digital authoritarian practices. Once limited by weak digital infrastructure, the Sisi regime has transformed the country into a technologically repressive state through sweeping legal reforms, censorship mechanisms, and expansive surveillance networks. Drawing heavily from the models of China and Russia—particularly in urban monitoring and information control—Egypt actively emulates their approaches. Crucially, both Chinese and Western technology firms have facilitated this transformation, revealing a broader pattern of global compli

Valenzuela, Ernesto, Thomas Hertel, Roman Keeney, and Jeff Reimer. Assessing Global CGE Model Validity Using Agricultural Price Volatility. GTAP Working Paper, 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.21642/gtap.wp32.

Abstract:
Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models are commonly used for global agricultural market analysis. However, concerns are sometimes raised about the quality of their output since key parameters may not be econometrically estimated and little emphasis is generally given to model assessment. This article addresses the latter issue by developing an approach to validating CGE models based on the ability to reproduce observed price volatility in agricultural markets. We show how patterns in the deviations between model predictions and validation criteria can be used to identify the weak points o

Fabra, Natalia, Eduardo Gutiérrez, Aitor Lacuesta, and Roberto Ramos. Do Renewables Create Local Jobs? Banco de España, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.53479/29475.

Abstract:
We investigate whether investments in renewable energy – solar and wind plants – create jobs in the municipality where they are located. Using 13 years of monthly data, we exploit the variation in the timing and size of investment projects across more than 3,200 municipalities in Spain, a country with substantial investments in this area. We use a new estimator for staggered differences-in-differences analysis that extends the local projections approach with clean controls (Dube et al., 2022). We find strong heterogeneity in the magnitude and pattern of the impacts of solar and wind investment

Abstract:
Smoking, poor diet, physical inactivity and harmful alcohol use are leading risk factors driving the UK’s high burden of preventable ill health and premature mortality. All are socioeconomically patterned and contribute significantly to widening health inequalities. This Health Foundation report summarises recent trends for each of these risk factors and looks at national-level policies for England, introduced or proposed by the UK government between 2016 and 2021. The report reviews the government’s approach and finds a heavy reliance on policies aimed at changing individual behaviour and an
