The paper presents the results of a study of the protective properties of composite coatings obtained on AMg3 aluminum alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) and subsequent modification of formed oxide layer with superdispersed polytetrafluoroethylene (SPTFE) from a suspension based on isopropyl alcohol. The incorporation of fluoropolymer decreased the porosity of base PEO-coating more than one order of magnitude. Formed composite layers increased wearproof of the samples by more than two orders of magnitude in comparison with PEO-coating. Additionally, polymer-containing coatings has hi

This research is related to the spheres of wearproof coating testing. The SiC coating has been deposited on the medium carbon steel using detonation deposition using the magnet coil flux of back direction. It has been established that only nanoscaled particles are deposited on the surface which had been accumulated in aggregates of different shape. The structure of the obtained coating has been thoroughly researched on the electronic microscope in previous publication. The obtained coating has been developed for testing on the friction bench modeling the friction process that is taking place i

Influence of the polarizing signal parameter used during plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) on the composition, morphology and properties of protective coatings formed on aluminum alloy in tartrate-containing electrolyte has been presented. It was established, that using of the short-pulse bipolar polarizing signal (τ=5 μs) facilitates the reduction of porosity and roughness of the formed PEO-layers. This, in turn, increases wearproof and protective corrosion characteristics of the treated alloy surface. Increasing the duty cycle (D) affects on the chemical composition and the thickness of th

The replacement cost of a boiler convection bank due to wear (erosion) is approximately AUD1mn, with a tube life of approximately 10–15 years using current protection technology (tube shields). Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling has been used extensively to redesign convection banks to reduce tube wear and predict where tube shields should be located for new convection bank geometries. Tube coatings have been successfully applied in other industries to protect against erosion. They can also be applied in areas such as the superheater loops where the higher temperatures can cause prob

AbstractDroplets impacting solid superhydrophobic surfaces is appealing not only because of scientific interests but also for technological applications such as water-repelling. Recent studies have designed artificial surfaces in a rigid—flexible hybrid mode to combine asymmetric redistribution and structural oscillation water-repelling principles, resolving strict impacting positioning; however, this is limited by weak mechanical durability. Here we propose a rigid—flexible hybrid surface (RFS) design as a matrix of concave flexible trampolines barred by convex rigid stripes. Such a surface e

Discrete modified nanostructural wearproof coatings Ti-N-Cu with crystallites size from 100 to 20 nanometers formed with ion-plasma vacuum-arc method. Copper amount in the received coatings made from 0 to 20 at. %, their hardness have considerably increased up to about 40-45 hPa in comparison with 20-22 hPa for Ti-N coverings. In this work, processes of structure and phase formation of Ti-N-Cu system coatings in a wide interval of copper concentration are investigated. Abstract. In this work the formation of protective coatings on VT1-0 commercially pure titanium by plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) and subsequent fluoropolymer treatment is presented. The structure, morphology, corrosion, and mechanical properties of the formed composite coatings were studied. It was established that PEO coatings are an excellent basis for the formation of a solid composite layer with high adhesion to its surface. The presence of polytetrafluoroethylene in the composition of the coating reduces the corrosion current density by 4 orders of magnitude and increases the wear r
