Abstract:
This project focused on the enhancement of an existing school web page. Schools have jumped on the bandwagon in record numbers in the past couple of years publishing web pages about their schools. Cucamonga Middle School is no exception, having first published a web site in 1995. Utilizing information gathered from a survey, the author/webmaster created a redesign of the existing school webpage. The wants and needs of parents, as noted in the survey were the driving force behind the redesign.

Abstract:
Web applications are getting more and more complicated with the extensive growth of the Internet. In order to cope with user demands, that are constantly increasing, a specialattention should be paid to performance optimizations. While a lot of attention is devoted to back-end optimization, front-end is often overlooked and therefore is a fertileground for performance bottlenecks. This thesis is destined to investigate a set of well-established front-end optimization techniques in order to find out those, that are the most efficient. The thesis primarily focuses on an examination of a limited set of techniques, that can be applied to static web resources. Some of the techniques are: resources consolidation, minification, compression and caching. The measurements used during the examination are based on four metrics, such as the Page Size, the Page Load Time, the Page Start Render Time and the Number of Requests the page made. The results show which methods impact performance most. In particular, the results revealed, that the resource compression technique alone brings significant performance improvements, the page size was reduced by 79% and the page load time by 72%, respectively. Despite that, it is evident that the best results can be achieved by a combination of different techniques. All optimization techniques combined made a serious difference, helping us reduce the page load time from 24 seconds down to just one second.

University of Canberra. Information Management and Tourism, 2002. http://erl.canberra.edu.au./public/adt-AUC20050629.133643.

Abstract:
The library profession is now heavily involved in providing access to information through library web sites and it is a challenge to design a web site that has reliable content and a user interface that is intuitive to those who use it. As web accessibility and usability are major issues in the design of library Web sites, this paper suggests that the design will be most successful when a usability analysis tool is used throughout the design and redesign of academic library web sites. The research drew on the literature of Human-computer Interaction and usability engineering examining best practice usability and accessibility design guidelines. It identified those guidelines that were relevant to academic library web sites. In order to establish the extent to which Australian academic library web sites met usability guidelines a usability analysis tool was developed and used to evaluate a randomly selected sample of web sites. The web sites were categorised under higher education institutional archetypes as suggested by DETYA (1998) and the results were discussed in light of these groups. The research found that there was no correlation of the usability of the web sites between the archetypes. In fact the pattern of usability was randomly distributed across all institutions, with the best and worst results appearing in each archetypical category. The study concluded that the web has provided a whole new start for all institutions and after examining the results, it suggested that the design of early web sites was not based on the size or the past history of the institution that it belonged to, but rather reflected those factors, already established in the literature, that faced library web managers at that time, when designing the library web page.

Full text
Abstract:
This study aimed to develop a teaching and learning model, based on principles derived from the fields of constructivist theory, schema theory, critical literacy theory, and design theory, to inform the development of hypermedia-mediated learning environments that facilitate the construction of mathematical knowledge by secondary school students in Thailand. In this study, the participants were a group of three secondary school students from the Demonstration school attached to the Faculty of Education at Khon Kaen University (Thailand). In order to ascertain how mathematical learning could be facilitated by the process of designing a web page that could be used to introduce other students to analytic geometry, all three participants were asked to work collaboratively to design an analytic geometry web page. The process of designing the web page was informed by a theoretical model derived from an analysis and synthesis from the research literature on constructivist theory, schema theory, critical literacy theory, and design theory. Findings from the study indicated that the creation of a web page facilitated and enhanced the Thai students' learning about analytic geometry. The major outcomes from the study are a revised theoretical framework to inform the integration of the design of mathematical web pages into Thai mathematics classrooms and a conceptual map framework to assess qualitative and quantitative changes to students' repertoires of knowledge about analytic geometry that emerge during the process of designing a webpage.

Abstract:
In this project we are creating a program for Infozone Sverige AB together with professional developers from the company. The program is a web portal which will be used to monitor and show system status of a network. The plan is that this web portal will be integrated into a not yet built network monitoring system which Infozone later can sell to their clients. The product is developed using Scrum together with test-driven development and during the development the team is working with certain methods and the SOLID principles to ensure the quality of the program. The web portal takes advantage of modern technologies and frameworks for web development, among other things it is a Single Page Application (SPA), uses responsive design and Microsoft’s .NET platform. In the end not all requirements are met, but because we are using Scrum, the program is functioning at the end of the project. The requirements that are implemented, are fully so. Furthermore, it is shown that it is not always best to use the latest frameworks, but the more tested methods and technologies can in some cases be more appropriate.

Abstract:
Page builders are becoming an increasingly popular tool in web development and are plugins for WordPress. Today they are used by both freelance designers and web agencies who want to increase their cost-effectiveness, but also by those who have no experience at all in web development. The purpose of this type of plugins is to provide the user with the tools needed to graphically create a web page. This practical thesis looks at the limitations Visual Composer cause in combination with Material Design principles and the framework Materialize. The thesis shows that Visual Composer can be a good tool for rapid prototyping and for projects with fewer requirements and design regulations and if the limited potential of Visual Composer is also seen as a design principle early on in development.

Hodge, Rebecca. "Factors Influencing Impulse Buying During an Online Purchase Transaction." Thesis, University of Waterloo, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10012/912.

Full text
Abstract:
An important element in retailing is the use of impulse purchases; generally small items that are bought by consumers on the spur of the moment. By some estimates, impulse purchases make up approximately 50 percent of all spending by consumers. While impulse purchases have been studied in the brick-and-mortar retail environment, they have not been researched in the online retail environment. With e-commerce growing rapidly and approaching $20 billion per year in the Canadian and US markets, this is an important unexplored area. Using real purchasing behaviour from visitors to the Reunion website of Huntsville High School in Ontario Canada, I explored factors that influence the likelihood of an impulse purchase in an online retail environment. Consistent with diminishing sensitivity (mental accounting and the psychophysics of pricing), the results indicate that the likelihood of a consumer purchasing the impulse item increases with the total amount spent on other items. The results also show that presenting the offer in a popup is a more effective location and presentation mode than embedding the offer into the checkout page and increases the likelihood of the consumer making an impulse purchase. In addition, the results confirm that providing a reason to purchase by linking a $1 donation for a charity to the impulse item increases the frequency of the impulse purchase.

Abstract:
IoT (Internet of Things) are devices which are usually equipped with different kinds of sensors, these sensor values are then sent to a server where these values are somehow processed. It’s predicted that the usage of IoT devices will increase significantly during the upcoming years.   Microsoft has a service named Azure IoT Hub, which is designed for easy administration of IoT devices, but Azure IoT Hub provides no user interface to administer these IoT devices. The task of this project is to create a user interface for Azure IoT Hub.

Abstract:
Studentconsulting makes it possible for students to use their knowledge in business cases. In addition to this it also reduces the cost for enterprises when hiring consultants. As job hunting via the internet becomes more common there is a need for a web application that connects company projects with students who are interested in consulting. One of the most prominent aspects for a web application to be competitive is usability. The intention with this study is to examine How can a webapplication for consulting jobs between enterprises and students be implemented to be perceived as useful by students? To answer this question a web application for intermediation of consulting jobs between enterprises and students has been developed. The web application is developed on a theoretical basis where the different dimensions of the term usability has been analysed. These dimensions are efficiency, effectiveness and satisfaction. In addition to this the importance of specifying users and the aesthetic aspects effects on usability has been discussed. To evaluate if the web aplication is perceived as useful it is tested on three groups of people on three different occasions to examine their perception of the web application. The tests are based on the thinking aloud method together with the questionnaires System Usability Scale (SUS) and Visual Aesthetics of Websites Inventory Short (VisAWI-S). The SUS and VisAWI-S questionnaires indicated that the web application had a high level of usability throughout the development process. This was achieved through implementing a design based on simplicity and colorfulness as well as the principles Visibility of system status, Recognition rather than recall, Flexibility and efficiency of use and Aesthetic and minimalist design. By analysing the results from the thinking aloud tests a reduction in negative comments between test 1 and 3 could be identified. From the test results, the conclusion is that through responses related to completed actions, implementation of markers, and contrasting colors a web application for consulting jobs between enterprises and students can be implemented to be perceived as useful by students.

Vaara, R. (Ruut). "The importance of web page design:a case study of four business school websites." Master's thesis, University of Oulu, 2015. http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:oulu-201511122136.

Full text
Abstract:
The objective of this thesis was to look at four business school websites in detail, and evaluate the functionality of their web pages based on their structure and content, their overall web design, their usage as marketing tools and how they have taken into account internationalization in their site content. Two Finnish and two American business schools were evaluated, Oulu Business School (OBS) and Aalto University School of Business (AUSB) from Finland and Harvard Business School (HBS) and the Bryan School of Business and Economics from the United States. Due to the Americanized and homogenized business school environment and the globalized world in which business schools operate, it was possible and even advantageous to carry out the study of the business schools in the form of a comparative study. The inherent subjectivity in the one-person analysis of the websites was counteracted by carefully constructing the theoretical background of the evaluation criteria that used as well as by choosing objective parameters on which to base the evaluations. The results of the website analyses revealed that all four sites were functional when viewed full screen and accessed via a computer. They information on the pages was logically structured and foreseeable in its positioning. The websites also excelled in producing scannable text and content appropriate for websites. HBS outshone the others in the area of generating new content with regularity to their homepages. The Finnish sites had better consistency than their American counterparts in the visual design of their pages and their homogenous flow, with the HBS site containing the most inconsistencies. All in all, the Bryan School website had the most problems. The pages’ menu structure, navigational functions as well as web design and site flexibility when viewed on different platforms and environments were seriously compromised. All four websites were geared towards marketing but the HBS and AUSB websites had prioritized this task higher on their pages than the other two. Because the English version of the Finnish business schools’ websites were already oriented toward exchange students and the international audience in general, global users were best taken into account in the content of the Finnish sites. However, the HBS web pages also had features aimed at a wider audience than just Americans. For future applicability of these findings, it is important to remember that web pages are updated regularly and even redesigned quite extensively relatively often. Hence, the analyses made here were based on the websites as they were during the time of the writing of this thesis. It would be interesting to see further studies conducted in the area of the public image of business schools and their websites as well as the actual reach and influence of these sites
Kaiken kaikkiaan The Bryan Schoolin sivustot olivat ongelmallisimmat.

Abstract:
While the information available on the internet increases exponentially, it is still not completely accessible for the current technologies, because of its text nature. The question “How to access the information stored in HTML/XHTML format?” does not have a precise answer yet. In this work we are interested in the problem of web pages identification and data extraction for the need of the internet measurement science, where the data volumes are in the order of tenths of millions pages to analyse. The innovation introduced by our approach resides in the extraction methodology which is based on the recognition of sub structures called “local structures” and on the concept of “information couple”, which consists of the idea to associate the extracted data with relevant visual markers. Our research has also been validated throuqh the development of a robust and easy to use data extraction tool

The main subject of this thesis is to prepare the web analysis and design methodology, MANW. The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the definition of the methodological framework on the basis of which the methodology will be built. The framework comes out from the methodological framework MEFIS which has been accustomed to comply with specific needs of the web application and websites development. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the research of existing methodologies for web project implementation. Based on the research, the elements of the methodologies suitable for analysis and design are selected and then incorporated into the MANW methodology. The last part of the thesis is the description of the methodology itself and description of its characteristics and elements. The goal of the diploma thesis is to prepare a simple methodology for websites and web applications analysis and design which can be used in agile web development. The methodology is described by its phases, processes, roles, inputs and outputs and other elements which are defined in the elaborated methodological framework. The output of methodology processes are the data for implementation, deployment and operation of web solutions. It was necessary to define the term methodology and define a methodological framework first in order to work out the methodology itself successfully. Another starting point for methodology design was the research of existing methodologies which also serves as an introduction to the problems of web projects implementation and provides an overview of existing tools. Output of the thesis is the MANW methodology which is a synthesis of the working experience and of a methodological framework theory. This methodology is easily modifiable and thanks to the clear process definition it can provide the companies with an effective solution of web products analysis and design.

Abstract:
The preparation of reports and registration of information on a face-to-face basis demands the hiring of personnel which could lead to a business developing a competitive advantage, but also, to unnecessary expenses. Improvements in managerial processes can result in higher productivity, higher time management efficiency, cost optimization and, above all, real-time information availability. Making real-time information available in key processes allows for a more efficient decision making, which, in turn, increases the value of a company. The purpose of this dissertation is to propose the design of a web, mobile phone and online payment application, which could improve the admissions process by technologically automating key activities in such process. This proposal is made possible by taking the admissions process of Trener School in Monterrico as a basis. The sub-processes include the enrolment, evaluation and registration of students. The data was obtained through online interviews to the school’s administrative personnel. As a result of the automatization, the school would rely on a mobile and web application to obtain real-time information to solve incidences that may occur in the admissions process. Additionally, the time spent in making reports would be reduced and the result of each sub-process would be checked in real time.

Abstract:
Internet usage is increasing every year, and so do the different online activities on the internet. Online shopping is one of the most popular activities on the internet and is continuing to grow. This study investigated if visual information influences consumer behaviour on e-retail websites when shown together with non-imagery information. The study also looks at whether or not the visual information that is being presented is a factor for consumers behaviour, and if the quality of the image matters in purchase intent. Another point of view in this study was whether or not imagery information in e-retail would increase the consumer attitude towards the design and if the type of visual information mattered. A significant difference was found in purchase intent for products having imagery information, regardless of the quality. Attitudes towards e-retail designs with high-quality product images were also found to be significantly more positive over both no- and low-quality images. The findings of this study fills the gap whether or not visual stimuli influence consumers when displayed to products without visual stimuli. The type of product imagery information being displayed is also a factor for consumer enjoyment. High-quality visual information is perceived  better compared to designs with low-quality and non-imagery product information.

Abstract:
The purpose of this action research study was to find out what considerations, from a multiple intelligences perspective, need to be taken into account when setting up and implementing a class on the design, evaluation and construction of web pages by Year 4 to 6 students. The teaching sessions are the first cycle in implementing classes for constructing web pages to showcase the work and activities that form part of the respective classroom programmes. The process included teaching the participants about the eight modes of intelligence as defined in Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences theory, developing criteria for evaluating web pages from a multiple intelligences perspective, as well as teaching the skills needed to utilise the software programs to create their web pages. Despite the intended focus on content and viewing it from a multiple intelligences perspective, technical skills for creating the web pages gained precedence. Giving students the opportunity tq demonstrate their learning, using ICT, in a way that best reflects the way or the intelligence modes they use to construct meaning has implications for educators and students. The gaining of technical skills, associated with emphasis on utilising ICT, needs to be balanced with the importance of the content and construction of meaning.

As various hand held devices such as mobile phones and tablets become more and more popular, how to design a web page that can be displayed properly on the screens of all devices becomes a very important question. If we were to design the same web page for each possible device, then the maintenance afterwards will become very troublesome and will cost a lot of money. By using Responsive Web Design, we can design a web page once and have it displayed properly on various devices. In this study, we will experiment how to deliver Responsive Web Design web pages on SharePoint platform using Bootstrap. SharePoint Server is one of Microsoft’s product that we can ever encounter in enterprises. It is a product that can be used as a collaboration platform to promote internal or external communication of an enterprise. By using the web pages that SharePoint provides, users can communicate with any device that they have. Among the numerous functions that SharePoint provide, one of which is to let user edit a web page just like the way we usually type our Word document, and can easily configure different ways to view it and set permissions for it. Users can also design workflows on SharePoint without writing a single line of code. One frequently mentioned of Responsive Web Design is when displaying a web page using different screen resolution, the web page will adapt to the screen resolution and modify its content of display. Bootstrap is a set of tools that can be applied on web sites and web applications. It content includes frameworks for HTML, CSS and JavaScript, providing various effects on typesetting, controls used on web pages and navigations of web pages. For web sites and web applications that need to provide service to various devices and their browsers, Bootstrap provides CSS media query that can save web designers a huge amount of time and work since they will no longer to have a version for each of their client devices.

The Internet has become the largest knowledge base and the most important source of information. In order to deal with the large quantity of rapidly-updated news, people need to employ machines to improve the efficiency of information processing. Nevertheless, since such a semi-structured display of data, such as HTML, is utterly bad for computerized data automatic processing, the proper manner in which to collect the key information of a webpage has still yet to be determined. Various studies have presented different solutions. Most of them focus on directly analyzing the codes of HTML in an attempt to discover either the structured characteristics of webpages or their models by adopting statistical methods or string comparison. However, these studies seem to ignore the fact that HTML was originally created to instruct the browser to develop a webpage that readers could see. In this case, designers have the right to determine such elements as the presentation of information, the layout of content, the pattern of typesetting, and the size of characters. Furthermore, the designers have to consider how to present all the content within a limited webpage based on the priority of information. This study proposes a vision design based approach for webpage core information extraction, which is created from the perspective of webpage vision designers to conclude the weight rules for the layout of webpage information. Experimentation has proved that this method can accurately and successfully collect the core information of a webpage.

Nowadays, the companies have set up a website in response to the needs of the market and customers. It is advantageous to maintain a good interaction with customers and transfer information to potential customers. Although the research of website design has a considerable degree of attention, it seems that the problem of website inefficiency is existed. The speculation of the reason is; companies are unable to fully apply to the User Centered Design (UCD) thought to plan their website, under such circumstance; the websites cannot meet the users’ expectation. Nowadays, although the website assessment has been valued gradually, there are also many related theories and writings. But the detection for website efficiency assessment with the User Centered Design (UCD) viewpoint is very few, particularly. The corporate website with excellent efficiency not only can advance the positive image of the company, even stands for the important meanings of company’s brand value and competitiveness. Therefore, this research assesses the web page design quality of Synology with the UCD Perspective. This research adopts three kinds of users’ perception scale including “visual perception”, “function perception” and “meaning perception”, which are the foundation of UCD, and the assessment questionnaire is established aiming at “Website Efficiency” to detect the entire “web page design quality” of Synology Website. The result show that except the visual perception of Synology Website must be improved a little bit, the other presentations are remarkable, furthermore, the correlation between “web page design quality” and “users’ perception scale” is significant, especially, the “function perception” of the users from the website , which are much higher than “visual perception” and “meaning perception”. By using the assessment tool can fully understand the users’ perception about the website, as well as the web page design quality, moreover, the result can be the basis for companies to plan or improve website in the future.

Abstract:
D.Ed.
Teaching and learning in the Technology Education and the Information Technology learning area traditionally focused on the acquisition of knowledge, skills, attitudes and reproductive thinking - with minor reference to the facilitation of complex thinking. An appropriate instructional methodology in the Higher Education and Training band is of utmost importance due to the fact that current instructional approaches and strategies in the Information Technology area of learning are not suitable for the facilitation of complex thinking. There are no instructional models for the facilitation of complex thinking through web page design available in South Africa. The cross-curricular nature of Technology Education and Information Systems permits the integration of the stages of the technological process and methodologies of information system design with particular reference to web page design. The problem-based nature of information system design correlates with the aim and functionality of the stages of the technological process. Within the stages of the technological process the balance between constructivist and behaviourist instructional approaches and strategies can provide for meaningful learning. The aim of this study is to design and implement an instructional web design programme (IWDP), and furthermore on the basis of an evaluation of the programme, to develop a prospective instructional model that could promote complex thinking in the project-based classroom. The development of the instructional programme was based on the three pillars of the technological framework (mind tools within web page design, complex thinking, instructional models and strategies), which provided a conceptual framework in the form of criteria on the manner in which complex thinking of learners can be facilitated. This study was developed within the qualitative research paradigm. The use of the case study design and action research was considered the most appropriate for the nature of this study. A group of 17 learners at an institution of higher education and training band was observed during the implementation of the instructional programme. Data was gathered using interviews, classroom observations, journals and essays, in order to explore learners' and the teacher's experiences in respect of the instructional programme. A qualitative data analysis approach was employed to provide meaningful categories and subcategories. From the data it was evident that the learners and teacher had positive experiences with regard to the instructional programme. The programme provided an array of instructional approaches and strategies, as well as the opportunity for learners to experience a multi-method learning environment utilising the technological resources and a network of human resources inside and outside the project-based classroom. It became clear that different instructional approaches and strategies (constructivist and behaviourist) contributed to a variety of learning modes particularly emphasizing discussions, cognitive apprenticeship and peer tutoring in collaborative teams, indicating the facilitation of complex thinking in general. Based on the findings an instructional model was designed and developed that could be applied in the Information Technology learning area, as well as in Technology Education in general.

Since the development of the Internet increasingly, Internet is a huge library that can provide useful information by powerful information search and retrieval. One of the important topics is how we can search exactly and quickly by using Internet technologies. The mediator/wrapper architecture is a de facto architecture used to retrieve information source on the Internet or the WWW. Most of the proposed wrapper is accessed the information on the internet or the WWW. The information source usually is external. If information source content tag changes, wrapper will not work well and not allow to be extracted information properly on the Internet or the WWW. So programmer must re-design the wrapper. In this thesis, we proposed an adaptive wrapper generator for network information source. If information source content tag changes, the adaptive wrapper can start recovery phase. Let the wrapper can automatically adaptive the changes of content tag and accurately extracted information.

The area of information systems design has obviously turned to the direction of more and more focusing on humanity in recent years. Those designers of information systems hope to bring aesthetic appeals, which just happened to the relationship between human beings in the past, into the design of human and information systems interaction and try to give their users an experience with full of freshness and pleasure. Earlier HCI researchers often focused on the usability issues of an information system in terms of efficiency and functionality, and they usually neglected users’ experiences and emotions caused by the appreciation of the system appearance. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to explore the appeals and design issues of aesthetics in web pages. At first, we collected and analyzed several literatures related to the subjects of aesthetics, including varieties of concepts about aesthetics proposed by aestheticians, relations between aesthetics and human feelings, and general design principles of aesthetics, in order to propose possible research questions for further studies of aesthetic design of web pages. The results showed that we can classify the concepts of aesthetics presented in the literatures in three different aspects, including the concepts about experiences and feelings, the concepts about abilities and behaviors, and the concepts about needs and aims. The paper suggests that the aesthetics of expressions related to the users’ experience might be another important issue in information system design. This paper also proposes the ZMET with the features of capability to extract visual information and emotional factors as the research approach in the further exploration of aesthetics in web pages. The result of the study found out :(1) “attraction”, “contrast”, and “the sense of comfort” are the key concepts of the website which is beauty sense. (2)The relationship of the key concepts among these relevant concepts are including ”interesting”,” rhythm”, “vivid”, “abounding content”, “curiosity”, “ high quality”, “focal point”, attention”, “characteristic”, “margin”, “impressed”, “clear and intelligibility”, “simplcity”, light color”, “harmony”, “relaxation”, cuteness”, “dreamy”, and “the sense of sweet”.(3)We discussed the concepts about experiences and feelings, the concepts about abilities and behaviors, the concepts about needs and aims , and the general design principles of aesthetics separately , and in contrast to the consensus map, the finding is beauty sense not only objectivity but also sociality.(4) the activity of browsing website became the part of lifestyle of people gradually, therefore, a web pages design with beauty not only includes the principles of design, but also integrates the factors of sociality and culture to the web pages design.

Most developed countries in the world have headed into an aging society. Most aging population belongs to the Post- World War II baby boomer’s generation (born between 1946 and 1964), and is now age between 44 to 62 (the middle aged). And others are more than 62 years old. The elderly group is getting bigger and bigger. No wonder, the health problem would accompany with the growing numbers such as the eyesight problems, the hearing problems, and the decreasing of the action ability. All of these would change what we habituate when we were young. Modern technology changes with each passing day. A lot of brand-new knowledge are obtained through the Internet. To design a personalized elder people Web site is needed. Nowadays, a few Web sites were designed for middle and older age population. Most Web sites were aimed at the teenagers and the content is not suitable for the elders. It makes the middle and older aged people are far from accommodated with surfing the Internet. Thus, designing a personalized elderly Web sites will help the future development. In this paper, we proposed a transforming system to convert the Web sites suitable for the elderly without redesigning a new elderly Web site. And we analyzed the suitable factors for elderly people to explore the Web sites such as the size of the text, font color, background and contrast. We filtered out the unnecessary animations and commercial advertisements, arranged the results and redefined the rules and transferred into a Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) only belongs to the elders. We also rewrite the rules of the content filter and then we inserted the rules into the proxy server. Through this way, we don’t need to redesign the Web sites but a better interface can be provided for elderly people when they surfing the Internet. In order to exam whether our converting Web suitable or not for the middle aged, we find 34 people with middle and older ages to be our responders. From the result of the return questionnaires, we can find that most people feel satisfied because our system helps middle age people easier to read. Also, we test the www.alexa.com (Top 10 Web connections speed in the Top Chinese traditional Site). We found that exploring the transformed web speeds up because some codes are filtered out and the responding time is shorter. Testing the use and the no use proxy server of environment, the results show the conversion method can reduce some the response time of reading Web page.

It is very convenient for human to use Internet for communications. The VoIP service is a good example. Because voice transmission through Internet becomes mature, people can remotely talk with each other by IP phones inexpensively. Thus, VoIP system can be integrated with Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) in some groups, organizations, or companies to reduce the cost for communication. Additionally, it also can be another kind of free consultation channel for customers and users. To take advantage of VoIP system, the people who may be inside a company, be the Internet visitors, or be provisional guests can receive services and question answers immediately and freely. However, it needs a lot of procedures to connect to the VoIP system, e.g., to install a softphone which must be booted to register an VoIP server, to even configure IP address, port number, protocol, encryption, and outbound proxy, etc. This configuration sometimes is difficult and it may need to setup every time when customers want use VoIP phone. It is not an easy job for a user, for example, to download the software from Internet, and to read some documents to setup system parameters and then to operate it, especially for those people who are not familiar with computers. Thus, this inconvenience may cause VoIP service not to be easily promoted. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to solve this problem and make users have a web interface and without worrying about how to setup the system. I combine Web interface with VoIP phone to become a “webphone”. To take advantage of the characteristics of generality and facility of Web, guests can click the button on the Web pages to trigger the VoIP component inside the Web page to connect to the VoIP system, then make communication with other people. At the same time, it can avoid exposing the information of server address, account, password to public and ward off dangerous attacks from Internet.

The reading process, at any level, is a complicated mental activity. Visual detection, eye movement, and the attention are all keys in gaining the most rapid comprehension while requiring the least amount of effort from the reader. The rapid growth in popularity of the World Wide Web has led some to predict the web-page format will become the standard for printed matter in the next century. As new media is developed and merged with existing technology, information conveyance is not only by word, but also through the technique of combining light and animation effects. Though sensual stimulation is satisfied through these measures, the question as to whether the message is conveyed more clearly and effectively, received more comfortably, and not lost in the technical effect must be addressed. Reading effectiveness includes the reading rate, correct identifying of the character, and the comfortability level of the presentation of the material. Therefore, by examining previous physical and psychological studies, this paper will first attempt to pinpoint control variables. Then it will attempt to define the relationship between the locations of animations on a web page and reading effectiveness. By experiment, attempts will be made to quantify the results, allowing for convenient reference in the process of designing electronic printed material. THE QUESTION: On a web page, how is the message or information conveyed by word influenced by the locations of surrounding animations? In terms of reading effectiveness, what should be the best arrangement for the locations of animations? INTRODUCTION TO THE EXPERIMENT: The test subjects are 765 junior high school students who score normally on a vision acuity test and demonstrate both English-alphabet-recognition ability and moderate experience with reading web pages. In design of the animation material, the content, color, direction, size, flash speed, and smoothness of rhythm remain constant. The location of the animation is varied randomly among eight different possibilities. In addition, a ninth random possibility is the total absence of an animation. A program is designed that will record in the computer the amount of time required by each subject to read the test material; the test responses of the subjects; and the discomfort level, rated by the subjects on a graded scale. THE RESULTS: Animations present result in longer periods of time in reading of test material. This period varies dependent upon location of animation. Generally, animations at one of the four corners of the test block result in shorter periods of time spent on the reading material than when the animations are at one of the four sides. The discomfort level reported by the subjects parallels the “reading time”: the higher the reported feeling of discomfort, the longer the time spent on the material. Various locations of the animation result in different capacities by the subjects in reading or recalling characters. However, those locations do not show significant influence in determining which of the nine text boxes are recalled. Rather, regardless of animation location, correct recall of alphabet character ranges in a general, though not necessarily exact, pattern from the upper left of the text block to the lower right. “Illusory conjunction” is found in the results of the research, and, though influenced by the location of the text, is not influenced by the location of the animation.

People who "surfing" on the web often find themselves eagerly following hypertext links deeper and deeper into a hypertext web, only to find themselves "lost" and unable to find their way back to the previously visited pages. We name this situation "lost in hyper space problem". In this paper we design the History Map to handle this problem. History Map is a mechanism which can automatically keep track of the user''s navigation path and save it in a tree structure. People who lost in hyper space can use it to help them regain the focus quickly. There are two topics in this paper, the one is "History Map" and the other is "Web page Handling System". History map is used to deal with the problem about "lost in hyper space" , and Web Page Handling System is an Information Management System which is used to manage large amount of web pages. Finally, we implement such a system, this system can work with browser and automatically collect the information when people navigate on the web. We also provide a friendly GUI and many web documents management functions, such as search, document storage and subscript, that people can use it to manage web documents easily.

The rapid development of Internet in recent years has offered us with a diversification of reading choices. The web pages are able to transmit large numbers of real-time information to users through the Internet platform. However, as the current composition and layout of web page design are lacked of specific and precise research guidelines for references, they often cause the designers to use the intuitive customary habit in designing and this prone to missing the opportunity to seize users’ attention. Therefore, how to lay out the web pages well and convey the integrated messages to users clearly is an important issue in web page design. This study retrieved 78 outstanding samples from Design Charts website to serve as the analytical samples. The impact of emotional awareness and preferences on different web page compositions on users were measured, and proposals were made on “main visual position,” “graphic and text proportion,” “blank capacity,” “overall composition layout,” and other layout elements were cross-examined through a content analysis and a questionnaire survey to work as the design principles of web page design. The study discovered that: (1) The composition with “main visual position at the screen center” was able to enhance the “special feeling” of users on screen image effectively. (2) The composition proportion of “diagram bigger than text” was able to improve the “easy feeling” of users on reading the screen. (3) A blank space of “40%~60%” was able to upgrade the “simplicity feeling” of users while watching the screen, but there was still room for further exploration on the effectiveness. (4) The overall composition layout of “main visual position at the center, diagram bigger than text, and blank space larger than 40%” were able to improve the “popular sense” and “love feeling” of users on the overall layout of web pages.

A complex shopping website often confuses users. A poor web design refrains the user from obtaining the desired information. Current academic research lacks a criterion for the home page layout design. This study offers suggestions to help web designers on the design of web page block re-layout. According to proximity compatibility principle, a mental compatibility and the integration of attention, a better design by re-layout or re-display web page blocks with a cluster closed each other can reduce waste of scanning and attention, and ultimately, it improves the readability of the webs. Yahoo Shopping Website is the most common shopping website in Taiwan, so it was used as the case in this study for redesign. The card sorting method was utilized to identify subjects'' metal models on the proximities of home page blocks on the shopping web portals. Two independent variables, block layout and color, were design in the experiment. Subjects'' eye movement was collected and analyzed through a gaze tracking system. Results showed that the best design was the re-layout of the page blocks. The findings of this study suggest that using the Proximity Compatibility Principle for designing web pages should be able to reduce the waste time of obtaining information and enhance browsing efficiency.

There are plenty of reports and information related to rice drying. However , it is lack of studies mainly on the functional and machinery manufacturing analysis of circulating-type rice dryers. Therefore , the main objectives of this study are : 1. To investigate each component’s function for modeling / simulation use. 2. To analyze dryer’s structure and part’s manufacturing based on parts list. 3. To design web pages of circulating rice dryer’s functions and schematic sketches for quick and handy references. Regarding to functional analysis of the circulating type rice dryer , the dryer is divided into four major components for investigation such as drying , tempering , handling and others. The major function of drying section is to dry wet paddy ; that of tempering section , to let the moisture content of paddy inside the kernal more evenly distributed for the purpose of reducing craking/checking ; handling section , to more paddy vertically and horizontally with suitable mixing ; others , to support the dryer , to supply fuel , “ to control the operation “ to protect the control box , to measure the moisture content and to remove dusts. A circulating-type rice dryer can be divided into seven categories : bottom , loading , middle , middle-upper , upper and head sections and bucket elevator for parts manufacturing analysis hand on its assembly sequences. According to results obtained in this study , one major model of a circulating-type rice dryer consists of 1485 pieces of parts. Among which , 389 pieces are produced by the maker itself , the remaining 1096 pieces are procured from local makers or importers .High percentage of parts procured from outsiders is mainly due to both quality and prices of those parts are acceptable by the dryer maker. The web pages for the circulating type rice dryers have been designed , installed and tested with expected functions and results.
