Abstract:
Glenn Robert Webb (1918–1999) was a prolific author on the reproductive biology of the terrestrial pulmonates (Mollusca) of the United States. Webb published almost 110 papers, notes and abstracts, many containing detailed descriptions of the functional morphology and reproduction of these gastropods, which remain of value in resolving their phylogeny. Webb described two family-level names (both still considered valid), ten genus-level names (at least seven remain valid), and ten species-level names, all for terrestrial pulmonates. Webb also edited and published the journal Gastropodia, which appeared in thirteen issues, from 1952–1994, and contained extensive original research on the terrestrial pulmonates. Several other malacologists, notably Leslie Hubricht, also published articles and described new species in Gastropodia. This paper provides a biography of Webb, a complete bibliography of his publications, and a list of his taxa, along with a list of other authors’ publications and new taxa in Gastropodia. Webb’s research collection, including some type specimens, and his notebooks, are now housed in the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago.

Abstract:
Abstract In 1884, Charles Webb, a European employee of a steam transportation company in Assam, sexually assaulted and killed Sukurmani, a woman who had left Bengal with her family to work on a tea plantation. The district magistrate dismissed most of the charges against Webb, assessing only a modest fine for wrongful confinement, and, though the case was appealed and brought to the attention of the viceroy, ultimately this verdict was upheld. The Webb case, as it became known in the Indian press, galvanized public opinion in India, as discussion of the case overlapped with discussion of the controversial Ilbert Bill of the previous year. This article traces the Webb case as it made its way through the courts and newspapers, arguing that a close study of this case reveals the ways that hierarchies of race, class, caste, and gender were constructed and were manifest in daily life. This article further argues that the treatment of the Webb case by the courts and later by the vernacular press indicates that sexual violence was a central element in nineteenth-century contests over colonial rule in India.

Abstract:
The increasing number of practitioners who employ Collaborative Law as an alternative dispute resolution method indicates its relevance in resolving legal cases, especially in the field of Family Law. Following its incorporation into legislation in some States in the United States of America, the current practice of Collaborative Law seems to run further than what was developed in 1990 by a family lawyer, Stuart Webb in Minneapolis. This article attempts to expose that while Collaborative Law is beneficial in resolving family disputes, its distinct feature-disqualification provision poses some drawbacks to disputants. Besides, it assesses how clients screening and combining Collaborative Law with mediation can minimize disqualification provision’s disadvantages. Lastly, this article examines why Collaborative Law’s application in non-family disputes is limited.

Abstract:
In this commentary, we extend Sirmon, Arregle, Hitt, and Webb's work in this issue by introducing shared mental models as antecedents of threat of imitability recognition and as moderators of the relationship between threat recognition and strategic action. Specifically, while Sirmon, Arregle, Hitt, and Webb focus on responses to threat recognition, we develop propositions on how shared mental models related to business issues affect the threat recognition process and on how shared mental models related to family issues influence strategic responses to recognized threats. Implications and areas for future research are discussed.

Abstract:
Specimens that had been previously considered to represent a fertile fern, Onychiopsis psilotoides (Stokes et Webb) Ward from the English Wealden, have been restudied and are here considered to represent a new genus (Tanydorus) in a new family within the Lycopodiales. Evidence for this new classification of the material includes the combination of a spiral (helical) arrangement of the leaves, presence of an elongated sporangium in the axil of a sporophyll, distinct strobilus borne on the sterile basal portions, and structure of the numerous homosporous spores. The combination of elongated sporangia and details of spore ultrastructure preclude placement in the only family currently assigned to this order, the Lycopodiaceae.

Abstract:
Malva pseudolavatera Webb & Berthel. is a plant from the Malvaceae family that has long been included in the human diet due to its various curative effects. Many plant leaf extracts from the various species of Malva genus have been reported to possess anti-cancer properties, however, studies on M. pseudolavatera Webb & Berthel. leaves have documented anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects with no emphasis on their possible anti-cancer potential. The present study explores the anti-cancer properties of Malva pseudolavatera Webb & Berthel. leaf extract on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines in vitro and deciphers the underlying molecular mechanism. Treatment of AML cell lines with M. pseudolavatera methanolic leaf extract showed a dose- and time-dependent inhibition of proliferation and a dose-dependent increase in apoptotic hallmarks such as an increase in phosphatidylserine on the outer membrane leaflet and membrane leakage in addition to DNA fragmentation. The pro-apoptotic effect was induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS) as well as an upregulation of cleaved poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), increase in Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, andrelease of cytochrome-c from the mitochondria. Major compounds of the extract included methyl linolenate, phytol, γ-sitosterol, and stigmasterol as revealed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, and amino acids, amino acid derivatives, tiliroside, 13-hydroxyperoxyoctadecadienoic, and quercitrin as detected by liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.

Abstract:

This study examines the social organization of Gaiscíoch, a large online gaming community that exists within the simulated world of a massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG). It provides an ethnographic account of an online gaming community that is open to any player without skill or time commitment requirements, but still maintains high status within the game world. This project identifies eight elements that make this inclusive, friendly, and casual community successful in virtual worlds that tend to be dominated by communities that have a competitive, strict, and exclusive approach to online gaming (social interaction, code of values, leadership, rank system, events, community building, population size, gameplay). Lastly, this project briefly inquires about the nature of the border between the virtual and the physical and establishes that gamers can be considered pseudo-border-inhabitants that are in control of the community they place adjacent to them in the cyber world.

Abstract:
By sharing product design information across a family of products, companies can increase the flexibility and responsiveness of their product realization process while shortening lead-times and reducing cost. This paper describes a preliminary attempt at using semantic web paradigm, especially the Web Ontology Language (OWL), for product family information management. An overview of the ongoing work with Semantic Web is also presented. Formal product representation using OWL can not only store the structure of the product family but also help in capturing the evolution of different components of the product family. As an illustration, a group of single-use cameras, containing several products from the Kodak single-use camera family, is represented in OWL format. The methodology of ontology development that can support product family design is discussed in detail. Product family design representation using OWL promotes better learning across products and reduced development time, system complexity, and product design lead-time.

Full text
Abstract:
This research work summarizes the study of the structural analysis of shear webs (present in wind turbine blades, sometimes also called as spars) with holes. The webs are sandwich composite structures which are supposed to carry the shear loads coming from the wind pressure and the holes are necessary for non-structural requirements of the wind turbine. The shear webs are strong structures and it is tough to test them to failure in the lab. Hence a structural representative component with lesser dimensions has been tested in the lab to accommodate the capability of the test machines. However, this component test results cannot be directly used in the wind turbine blade structural verification as the web size is much larger in real life. A finite element model is developed to simulate the test specimen and its failure behavior. The concept in this modelling approach is to prepare a digital copy of the actual specimen which will follow the same load-displacement behavior and can predict the same failure as seen in the test coupon. The finite element model is verified for failure using known failure criteria for composite sandwich structures as well as with analytical calculations. This makes sure that the finite element model is a good ‘digital twin’ and simulates the test component behavior one to one. Later, this finite element model is extended to the size of the actual web structure (a family of FE models with different dimensions) to scale up the failure prediction to actual stiffness level.

Abstract:
Today’s market is becoming increasingly more competitive as companies strive to achieve success by reaching a large number of customers in a mass market while simultaneously treating them as individuals in a customized market. Many companies have begun to appreciate the benefits of using product platforms as they increase the customizability of their offered products, while reducing development costs and time to market. However, product variety is not customization; it is simply an attempt on the part of a company to meet the individual needs of their customers by flooding the market with many variations of the same product. With recent innovations in the field of information technology, web-based product development methodologies provide the capability for advanced customer involvement during the design process, which is a crucial aspect of differentiating customization from variety. Current approaches have provided web-based frameworks where users are offered a limited amount of control in the design process by assembling different configurations of given modules or by choosing a product already available in the company database. The focus in this paper is on advancements to a web-based framework where design parameters are collected from the user by means of a web-based browser interface, optimization is completed using the specified parameters, and a 3D visual representation is dynamically provided based on the results from the optimization. This proposed framework is illustrated using an example from ongoing research involving General Aviation Aircraft design.

Abstract:
To survive in today’s volatile market, companies are striving to deliver greater quality, more customization and innovative designs by offering user customizable products. Mass customization features products that can be altered or changed by the customer to fit his/her needs. In order to incorporate customer specifications it is necessary to integrate the customer into the design process. Offering customized products while maintaining the reliability and efficiency of mass produced products calls for new tools and strategies in the design and manufacturing process. This paper presents a web based mass customization framework to provide customizable products in real time by integrating the customer into the design process. The approach is based on template(s) to automatically generate CAD models from customer specifications. Structural feasibility of the user specified configurations are then evaluated using automated Finite Element Analysis and communicated back to the user in real time. To achieve automated analysis a Product Family CAD and FEA template is presented. The CAD and FEA product family template generalizes the rules and guidelines for the entire product family to allow users to generate any member product. The template and the framework is implemented using commercial software. The applicability of the system is illustrated for web based customization of bicycle frames.

Abstract:
The academic performance of engineering students continues to receive attention in the literature. Despite that, there is a lack of studies in the literature investigating the simultaneous relationship between students' systems thinking (ST) skills, Five-Factor Model (FFM) personality traits, proactive personality scale, academic, demographic, family background factors, and their potential impact on academic performance. Three established instruments, namely, ST skills instrument with seven dimensions, FFM traits with five dimensions, and proactive personality with one dimension, along with a demographic survey, have been administrated for data collection. A cross-sectional web-based study applying Qualtrics has been developed to gather data from engineering students. To demonstrate the prediction power of the ST skills, FFM traits, proactive personality, academic, demographics, and family background factors on the academic performance of engineering students, two unsupervised learning algorithms applied. The study results identify that these unsupervised algorithms succeeded to cluster engineering students' performance regarding primary skills and characteristics. In other words, the variables used in this study are able to predict the academic performance of engineering students. This study also has provided significant implications and contributions to engineering education and education sustainable development bodies of knowledge. First, the study presents a better perception of engineering students' academic performance. The aim is to assist educators, teachers, mentors, college authorities, and other involved parties to discover students' individual differences for a more efficient education and guidance environment. Second, by a closer examination at the level of systemic thinking and its connection with FFM traits, proactive personality, academic, and demographic characteristics, understanding engineering students' skillset would be assisted better in the domain of sustainable education.
