Full textAs today's consumers become increasingly aware of the global, social and environmental consequences that our consumption brings, has in recent years influenced companies' way towards business ethics and sustainability. Therefore, corporate responsibility for the environment and society has become a central subject in business decisions, also known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The purpose of CSR is to encourage and integrate the work of ethical, financial, social and environmental aspects of business processes, and in relation to stakeholders, in addition to what the law requires. One tool that is becoming more common among companies when communicating their CSR work, is via social media. The increased use of social media has changed the communication for both companies and consumers, as it has created new opportunities to integrate with one another. The use of social media can thus be an effective tool in market communication, as it can be used as a direct communication tool to its target groups, as well as be used to build, maintain and nurture the relationship with its consumers. In addition, social media has increased the transparency, as it creates accessibility to information, whereas the consumers have more information and insight about companies today. Which demands on companies' marketing communications to be handled effectively, not least in the field of CSR, since social responsibility is a highly debated topic among today's consumers. Companies are becoming more aware of the possibilities of using social media, however, if it is not used or handled properly, it can also prove to be an obstacle as it is an advantage. Since social media creates an opportunity for consumers to provide feedback, which in many cases within CSR can be negative, it can also create the opportunity to easily spread Negative Word of Mouth (NWOM). Thus, communicating CSR on social media can therefore be a challenge for companies. If companies can manage social media, it can be used as an effective marketing communication tool. Therefore, it is important to use strategies that can handle possible conflicts that may arise in discussions of CSR on social media. If it is not handled, it can affect consumers' attitudes and purchase intentions, and ultimately their relationships with a brand. The purpose of this study is to investigate and observe strategies in market communication with CSR discussions on the social media platform, Facebook [Facebook pages]. Furthermore, identify possible challenges that the observed strategies pose, with the aim of gaining an increased understanding of strategy management in market communication. To study CSR communication on social media, the study has delimited to the cosmetics industry, as an empirical context, due to currently great discussions about CSR among consumers. The study resulted in a CSR-integrated relationship management model and observed two main categories: Verbal and non-verbal relationship management strategies. which includes four different management strategies; accommodating, defensive, censorship and non-engaging. The study also resulted in different difficulties companies have when using social media [Facebook pages] within the field of CSR. It observed three major difficulties/challenges; (1) It is difficult to satisfy a displeased consumer within the concept of CSR, due to the concept of CSR goes beyond the transaction and it is more based on an individual's emotions. As CSR is a complex subject, the difficulty of compensating a dissatisfied customer becomes challenging as CSR is about integrating social and environmental responsibility into the entire business model. (2) CSR discussions are difficult to manage for companies with traditional customer service strategies in social media marketing and webcare. (3) Companies that do not have integrated CSR into their business model from start, finds it difficult to create, maintain and nurture the relationship with their consumers within CSR discussions.

Full textThe improvement of communication among remotely located people constitutes a very comprehensive prominent subject nowadays. Among applications to attain this goal, some aim to support social and personal interactions to meet partners, friends and family in distance. Presence research results, some obtained as part of this thesis, allowed to infer the four pillars of the proposal: 1. visualization is very important in social/personal interactions, mainly when people have close social/personal relationship; 2. simple technology can afford social presence; 3. camera images are more satisfactory than avatars during some social/personal interactions; 4. stereoscopy influences presence positively. Under the constraint of using simple technology without adding any special hardware to a PC system, the thesis proposes the use of stereoscopy through webcams, in real- time, as one solution to add 3D features to camera images. Since webcams are simple equipments with low resolution, to obtain stereo images in good quality is a challenge. Considering the fact that human eyes treat short and long distance in a different way, this research analysed the natural stereo processing of human eye, and based on psychophysical and physiological features of binocular vision, the thesis proposes a model to process stereoscopic images to be visualized in short distance, and implemented it as a proof of concept. The obtained results are satisfactory for stereoscopic images visualization through webcams, in real-time, and mainly, eliminated the need of adjusting images parallax and cameras position for each viewer´s movement, allowing more freedom to the viewer.

The possibility of real time interaction with customers as opposed to the monologues that normally characterize the traditional marketing practices has drastically altered the way Customer Service is offered thus enabling researchers and purchasers of products as well as other on-line services. This represents a substantial degree of comfort to contemporary man when time becomes scarcer on a daily basis. Marketing plays a central role in any nation's economy, facilitating information exchange, assets, services and payments as well as economic values for buyers, salespeople, intermediaries and society in general. Marketing provides the physical infrastructure for transactions between buyers and sales people. We can say that market and electronic negotiation are specializations of the general concepts of market and negotiation. The use of electronic devices, more specifically the use of the Internet as a toei to promote commerce, has revolutionized ali existing forms of commercialization. It has, furthermore, promoted new electronic markets - those based on the Internet. With such advantages, the electronic market generates new business opportunities, provides new strategies to reach consumers, suppliers and intermediaries who are willing to add value to the integration of the customer and supplier. The electronic market has improved qualitative information that is shared between buyers and suppliers and has helped to reduce costs in logistics. It has also permitted effective promotions, faster delivery and reduced inventories. This is due to the web infrastructure substituting physical systems of distribution. The following research was developed on this theme and is based on a factual case: Vitória Web Car, an organization which has focussed on a high quality in service as its foundation for growth and differentiation in service in the virtual Brazilian retail market.

Full textIn this thesis, we propose a decentralized and collaborative tracking system, based on wireless autonomous camera networks. The distributed mode ensures the robustness of the surveillant system against external attacks or an actual failure of some camera nodes. In fact, the failure of some network components does not compromise the effectiveness of the global decision-making. The proposed technique relies on a variational framework, meeting the communication constraints of the camera network, while ensuring the robustness of the tracking system for a highly maneuvring target. It is worth also noting that the communication between two successive processing cameras is limited to the transmission of Gaussian statistics (a mean and a covariance matrix). In this thesis, we propose also original descriptors robust against the variation of the camera vue, in a non pre-calibrated network. These descriptors are also efficiently implemented in order to meet the real-time constraint during the collaborative tracking process

There is an ongoing debate about the response of Amazon forests to extreme and to normal seasonal drought. Satellite observed Amazon green-up during the 2005 drought remains controversial, with green-up attributed by some to cloud/aerosol contamination. Satellite detection of dry-season green-up in years of normal rainfall is also confounded in the southern Amazon by decreasing solar zenith angle. To address these concerns by direct assessment of changes in the forest canopy, a high-resolution (1028x720p) 3-band video camera was mounted 54 m above the forest floor on an eddy covariance tower 60 km north of Manaus. Camera aim was south, perpendicular to the solar transit, with an oblique downward view. Automatic color balance was turned off. For 134 days from the middle of the dry season to mid rainy season (23 Sept, 2010 to 03 Feb, 2011) one frame was captured every 10s. From these, a single frame was chosen per day, obtained under diffuse solar illumination near local noon with minimal variation (< +-10%) in overall reflected scene brightness. Auto-exposure of the camera compensated this minor variation. Changes in greenness and woodiness were examined using three approaches: (1) visual classification of transition types for all trees that underwent marked full-crown changes during the dry season; (2) relative green channel brightness averaged over the entire frame; and (3) unstandardized Principal Component Analysis of the entire frame to remove spatial variations in illumination (PC1) and estimate area of exposed bark (threshold of PC2). Of 13 trees that underwent full-crown transitions in the first month (dry season), 11 were experiencing some stage of leaf flush . Relative brightness of the green channel over the entire frame showed that a flush of new leaves was already taking place at the beginning of the study and continued at least into October, when leaf maturation caused changes in leaf colors, limiting the usefulness of this indicator. The area of exposed bark decreased steeply during the mid-dry season leaf flush and further suggested that leafing-out continued at a slower pace into the rainy season. Due to spectral stability of exposed bark over time, this is a more reliable indicator of leaf phenology than the leaves themselves. The results of this study contribute an understanding of what controls seasonality of vegetation greenness in Amazonia and its photosynthesis response.

Full textPhotoplethysmographic (PPG) signals obtained from a webcam are analyzed through a continuous wavelet transform to assess the instantaneous pulse rate. The measurements are performed on human faces. Robust image and signal processing are introduced to collect only pixels that contain photoplethysmographic information and to remove major artifacts and trends on raw webcam PPG signals. The interbeat intervals are computed using a standard peak detection to form the instantaneous pulse rate. In addition, the respiration is recovered using the pulse rate series by respiratory sinus arrhythmia, the natural variation in pulse rate driven by the respiration. The amplitudes of the photoplethysmographic signal, which reflect relative changes in the vascular bed due to peripheral vasoconstriction or vasodilatation, are also measured. The presented algorithms are implemented on a mid-range computer and the overall method works in real-time. The performance of the proposed pulse and breathing rates assessment method was evaluated using approved contact probes on a set of 12 healthy subjects. Results show high degrees of correlation between physiological measurements even in the presence of motion. This work provides a motion-tolerant method that remotely measures the instantaneous pulse and breathing rates. Monitoring physiological signals via non-contact means presents a greater challenge in personal health care, telemedicine and affective computing. The second part of this thesis consists in assessing mental workload changes using the parameters assessed previously, i.e. the photoplethysmographic amplitude fluctuation and the pulse rate variability. These particular signals provide an estimation of the autonomic nervous system state. In order to validate the proposed method we have recorded, concurrently to the webcam curves, electrodermal activity during an interactive game that was developed to successively stress and relax the subject. We have specifically employed a computerized and interactive version of the STROOP color word test. The results exhibit a strong correlation between the webcam and contact skin conductance level traces and offer further support for the applicability of mental stress detection by remote and low-cost means, providing an alternative to conventional contact techniques

In the online buying marketplace, electronic word of mouth (eWOM) and reputation are crucial, especially because the influential effect of negative WOM can easily spread quickly through the Internet platform. Thus, businesses are investing a great deal in consolidating customer relationships to improve services and eliminate negative eWOM. Thus far, in the academic field, many studies have been carried out on the issue of eWOM. Scholars have proposed the concept of Webcare to analyze how businesses employ and conduct eWOM in managing their online reputation. There are few studies that empirically address the issue of Webcare in the online buying context. In practice, Webcare is one of the business strategies to which online merchants must pay attention. In this vein, following the approach of the “post-acceptance model of IS continuance”, which originated from expectation confirmation theory (ECT), this present study proposed a research model of the “post-acceptance model of service recovery continuance (repurchase)” in the research context of service recovery. Furthermore, the role and trigger timing of Webcare have been examined. According to the 407 valid samples collected from online consumers who had the experiences in service failure and recovery, the findings showed that the“post-acceptance model of IS continuance” can be applied in the context of service recovery with high explanatory power. In addition, the context of service recovery remains highly explanatory in the IS continuance model. In addition, the study confirmed the antecedent role of Webcare in the “post-acceptance model of service recovery continuance (repurchase)” and found that the Webcare should be employed in all of the online buying processes as the trigger of service recovery sequence for satisfied consumers, instead of a remedy after the service failure. Finally, implications for academics and practitioners are proposed and discussed.

Webcasting comes from the rise of the media and brings about the creation and interaction of diverse content. Compared with traditional media, "Self-Media" is a network media platform that provides interaction or content for users of the platform to freely create content and deliver messages to specific or unspecified groups and individuals. Since the media has a variety of production content, social interaction, compliance with the relevant laws and regulations and platform terms of use. Webcast content can be seen in social sharing, business activities, classroom live, national conferences, and even court trials. The live webcast platform has new live broadcast functions from social media, and newcomers are mainly broadcast media. The integrated business model and application type can be roughly divided into live show, live action, live game, live broadcast, etc., and the platform creates a commercial niche from the media, generating a new business model, and the dependence between the live broadcast and the platform. In addition to how the platform provides a better niche for the live broadcaster, the revenue of the live broadcaster also depends on the user's loyalty. This paper discusses the scope of the study and precludes court live broadcasts. Explain the advantages of online media and the types and contents of webcast platforms. The United States is a big country for new technology application and development companies, especially for Facebook and Youtube, all of which are American companies. The development and response of the United States is also earlier. Therefore, when doing research and discussion, this article first explores the development of the United States and observes cross-strait development. In the near future, mainland China has discussed the issues of government regulation policy control and self-discipline of the Internet, and explored the internal development of Taiwan to consider its management differences and cultural characteristics. In addition, the main legal risks faced by the webcast platform come from the live broadcast content. The content of the live broadcast is not correct. It will not only violate administrative regulations and criminal law, but may also constitute civil tort and may also involve intellectual property protection. China's protection of freedom of speech based on the Constitution, online speech prohibits prior review to avoid the chilling effect, so no prior review is required. At present, the Internet broadcast can only be explained and applied according to the original specifications. Therefore, the NCC proposes a draft of the Digital Communication Law, which is characterized by civil liability, emphasizing that it is not subject to public power and is involved in self-discipline. In addition to the government-regulated laws, Taiwanese webcasting industry has referenced the development of the mainland China and discussed the establishment of self-discipline conventions to mainland China a harmonious network environment and reduce the occurrence of chaos. Webcam is one of the main peripherals in a computer system. This thesis focuses on the electromagnetic interference (EMI) prevention of a webcam to improve the robustness of the product. There are three parts for the EMI improvement. The first is dealing with image signal interface and USB2.0 process, which by adjusting the circuit impedance matching and the connector selection, can reduce the radiation caused by unmatched impedances. As a result of matched impedance, the radiation power of the high frequency signal is reduced by 2dB quasi-peak value. The second part is the implementation of multiple layers of printed circuit board (PCB), correct signal track layout on different layers can introduce shielding to the high frequency signals as well as avoiding cross talk caused insufficient spacing. Using a multiple layered PCB and suitable layer structure can reduce the EMI radiation by 5dB quasi-peak value. The last part is to adjust cable used by the webcam, due to the data rate of the cable is up to 480MHz, the cables with different shielding effect can suppress the radiation of the USB signal, and is able to improve EMI up to 6dB quasi-peak value. The component selection and PCB layout design are analyzed and discussed in this thesis. Practical and efficient solutions are proposed not only to reduce the development time but also for webcam EMI application.

Eye-tracking systems are wildly used in cognitive psychology research problems, and recently eye-tracking technology has been considered as a potential multimedia interaction way. It can be applied to help people who suffer from disease and lost the ability of controlling their movements, so that they can manipulate computers and communicate with others. In addition, eye-tracking system can also be used to detect drivers’ fatigue. Reducing the number of accidents can not only save lives but also decrease society cost. However, commercially available eye-tracking systems usually endure with high cost and hard to fetch problems. We propose an eye movement tracking method using personal computer and single webcam. Our method modifies the Adaboost face detection algorithm to make it faster and reduce the false positive rate. We also provide a new method to calculate the center of iris quickly. Finally, we use SVM to help us categories possible gaze region and determine the final gaze region with our gaze tracking mechanism.

It’s very easy for human being to recognize the emotion through facial expression, but it’s not so simple for computers. In this research, we use the common video device to establish the system which distinguishs people’s emotion, automatically. This system can work very well with neural network. In this paper, we are base on Ekman’s (Action Units; AUs) to catch the characteristics on the faces. First of all, it catches images on people’s faces by CMOS WebCam, and then detects the moving route of the five organs by image processing technique. Then, using those characteristics through neural network to recognize people’s emotion. Our system can recognize moving emotion within a short time, and the correction percentage can be over eighty percent. Therefore, it’s strong enough to approve the availability of our system.

With the popularity of imaging/video equipments, applications of digital images/videos have become popular and accessible to end-users. Most images used for facial feature extraction and expression analysis are taken by digital camera or video camcorder. In general, most end-users don’t have access to high-end camera or camcorder, thereby limit the use of facial expression analysis in daily life. In this study, our goal was aimed to develop a novel method to detect automatically the facial features (e.g. eyebrows, eyes, …etc.) using a low-end webcam equipped on a commercially-available notebook. The method includes a face detection technique to identify potential face regions using skin-colors and a Bayes’ classifier. After normalizing the face region, facial-feature searching and labeling methods are used to identify facial feature points or locations in images. Our experimental results were tested using a face database in our laboratory, Markus Weber’s face database, and CMU AMP face database. The preliminary results showed that our methods achieved a face detection rate of 85% in the webcam database and in Markus Weber’s database, and a success rate of 87% for facial feature extraction in CMU AMP database. In summary, we have presented a novel method for extracting facial features using a low-end webcam, which is more accessible to the general public. This may allow broad applications in facial feature extraction and expression analysis, leading to improve the human-computer interaction.

Population aging has been a worldwide problem already. In a prediction of population growth, the growth rate starts to decrease, and the aging population starts to increase each year. According to the 2017 Alzheimer’s Disease International(ADI), an elderly would get dementia on an average of 3 seconds. There is currently no cure for dementia in medical technology, but studies have found that it would be possible to prevent Alzheimer, promoting thinking ability and social activity by playing games. Since 2000, international Mahjong competition has become more and more popular. This thesis mainly proposes the method to effectively identify the scattered Mahjong tiles which being side by side at any angle on the desktop. It is expected to combine the method with artificial intelligence, make it possible for players to play with computers. It is also expected to combine the method with the Mahjong competition to analyze the players instantly.

This thesis is discussed to gesture control for using Webcam. Mouse and keyboard operation are not the best tool on many occasions. The purpose of this thesis is to facilitate handling with gesture control simple random swing in the air to complete the operation. The first step in object tracking, now more commonly used tracking method has two ways: moving edge detection[1] and mean shift[2]. Because moving edge detection is useless when moving object stationary, so the use of mean shift algorithm is used. Object tracking methods are mainly distributed in the color space based approach. In median filtering, binarization, morphology[3] and edge detection to find the image location, and use mean shift tracking path. The path from the Hu invariant moments[4] and Jiugongge path classification, to find the path of the finger to identify operating instructions, thereby leading to finger waving in front of Webcam can control the computer output instruction. The simulation results are indicated Hu invariant moment and Jiugongge successfully classify a variety of image path. Hu invariant moments come through seven unchanged moments database for comparison with the identification, the difference between instruction and instruction are clear. Another method can be drawn through the Jiugongge of various Jiugongge instruction, it can be designed own database, and the database comparison and identification.

Nowadays, Internet usage is becoming more and more diversified, such as data searching, social networking, online shopping, audio-video sharing and so on. Video can be shared through the internet and audio-visual platform. The video sharing platform not only can share recorded films, but also has webcast function. Audience can watch webcast on television, the network and mobile devices; therefore, the webcast develops very rapidly recently. This study adopted expectation confirmation theory to construct research model, and explore factors that influencing users’ continuous viewing intention and satisfaction on webcast by celebrity worship. Celebrity worship scale is applied to measure the level of celebrity worship. This study sent questionnaires via internet and 713 valid questionnaires were collected. It was found that (1) different level of celebrity worship has positive effects on expectation confirmation. (2)Webcast expectation confirmation has positive effects on satisfaction and continuous use. (3)Webcast expectation confirmation has positive effects on perceived usefulness (entertaining, interaction, social and information). (4) The entertaining function and information function of the webcast has positively direct and indirect effects on viewing satisfaction and the continuous usage of the webcast. (5) The interactive function and social function of the webcast negatively influence viewing satisfaction. The result of this study can be known that different level of celebrity worship does not cause different expectation of the webcast. Based on the research results, we give different suggestions of the four aspects- entertaining, interaction, social and information of perceived usefulness that influence the satisfaction on viewing webcast. On the entertainment aspect, webcast content can be adjusted according to the audience message to increase the number of viewers, and on the information aspect, webcast celebrity can share fitness experience, make-up brand use experience.., or some information that is not officially disclosed, thus attract increasing willingness to watch the webcast. Since the audience who watched the celebrity webcasts was mostly fans, even the interactive and social aspects of perceived usefulness have negative effects on satisfaction of the webcast, but it will not affect the continuous viewing intention. Fans wish that he/she can build parasocial interaction with celebrity, the direct interaction with the celebrity and socializing with other fans are not their primary reasons to watch the webcast. So the webcaster does not need to do too much in these two aspects. The findings of this study could be referred by webcasters, while webcasters or webcast celebrities plan /design the webcast content in the future.

We have studied that the system can indeed extract accurate pulse measurements from ordinary webcam imagery. We use camera and camcorders (For example, home video, webcam, Mobile camera and video, etc.) to receive the images. You can check a person’s vital signs and provide health indicators. The concept of using a camera to detect such health information that it is a non-contact and non-invasive device, which could measure both the pulse rate、respiratory and blood-oxygen levels simultaneously. The camera-based spectral imaging PPG system is constructed to validate the feasibility of this technique. Pulse measurements can be acquired using digital camcorders/cameras with normal ambient light as the illumination source or applying multiwavelength illumination can be achieved to understand the blood perfusion change. Corresponding to the individual wavelength LED illumination, the PPG signals can be derived. The outcome explicitly reveals the imaging PPG is able to detect blood perfusion in an illuminated tissue and indicates the vascular distribution and the blood cell response to individual wavelength LED. It is a powerful tool in assessment of the multiple physiological parameters. It is an accurate, reliable, reproducible, yet simple to measure and process. This technology has significant potential for advancing personal health care and telemedicine.
