The article gives a overview of translations of I.A. Krylov’s fables in China. The first of them appeared more than 120 years ago, but the real acquaintance of Chinese readers with his work took place in the 1950s because of the translations of Meng Hai and Wu Yan. From the late 1970s to the present, the number of translations and editions of Krylov’s fables has been constantly increasing. Now in China there are more than 300 separate editions of his selected fables and 33 complete collections. At various times, at least 64 translators worked on translations of Krylov’s fables into Chinese, and 15 of them translated all nine books of the collection of his fables (these are Wu Yan, He Shiying, Feng Jia, Gu Yu, Xin Weiai, Han Guiliang, He Maozheng, Pei Jiaqin, Qu Hong, Yue Yan, Shi Guoxiong, Ding Lu, Zhu Xiansheng, Qiu Jingjuan and Yang Jianfeng). Some translations are made in prose, but some in poetry. The article summarizes the history of translations of Krylov’s fables in China and provides information about the most important translations and translators.

Historically, “Yan-Yun 16 Prefectures (燕雲16州)” were some of the important strategical places in early imperial China. These areas, which started in modern day Datong (大同) and ended in Tianjin (天津), included the capital city, Beijing (北 京) and were just below location of the Great Wall (長城). The main reason why the “Yan-Yun 16 Prefectures” were created by the imperial Chinese government was to better defend the border from threatening nomadic tribes such as the Xiongnu (匈奴), Xianbei (鮮卑), Youran (柔然), Turks (突厥) and Khitans (契丹), who had consistently attempted to break into the economically and culturally prospering Chinese empire. In other words, imperial China installed the prefectures as a major military bases to solidify state security. Although there are many past studies on the “Yan-Yun 16 Prefectures,” there are still many un-answered historical questions, including why the Later Jin (後晉) had ceded this strategic area to the Khitan Empire. More specifically, why the first emperor of the Later Jin agreed to this bad policy decision made by his main political advisor Sang Weihan (桑維翰)? And Why did Sang himself, who was one of the top elites in the Chinese Empire, made such a suggestion to the emperor? Finally, during the cessation of the prefectures to the Khitans, what was the position and role of the military warlords, Liu Zhiyuan (劉知遠) and Zhao Dejun (趙德鈞)? In order to answer these questions, this paper is delved into the historical background of the “Yan-Yun 16 Prefectures” in the first chapter and examines the strategic importance of these areas from the Qin-Han (秦漢) through late Tang (唐後期). Following this, the paper investigates the main reasons as to why the Later Jin ceded the prefectures to the Khitan empire through carefully analyzing the roles of four individuals, specifically emperor Shi Jingtang (石敬塘), Sang Weihan, Liu Zhiyuan and Zhao Dejun. Finally, in the last chapter, the paper discusses the historical significance of the “Yan-Yun 16 Prefectures” through analysis of the Later period of Five Dynasties up to mid Northern Song when the Chinese Empire significantly re-established its diplomatic relations with the Koryo dynasty in 1071. Through the re-examination of the “Yan-Yun 16 Prefectures,” this paper hope to make an academic contribution to the scholarly world and help us to understand the politically / militarily significant areas in imperial Chinese history.

In order to accelerate the development of advanced manufacturing, promote in-depth integration of the Internet, big data, artificial intelligence and the real economy, and foster new growth areas and new drivers in such areas as high-end and medium consumption, innovation-driven development, green and low-carbon development, sharing economy, modern supply chain and human capital services. Computer Academy of Guangdong, Association of Computing Education in Chinese Universities, and Zhuhai Ton-Bridge Medical Technology together with AEIC Academic Exchange Information Center, hosted the 2021 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Forum (AIBDF 2021) in Zhuhai, China during September 24 to 26, 2021. This conference focused on artificial intelligence, big data and medical and big health AI science, aimed to provide a platform for experts and scholars, engineers and researchers to share scientific research results and cutting-edge technologies, understand academic development trends, broaden research ideas, strengthen academic research and discussion, and promote cooperation in the industrialization of academic achievements. About 300 participants from academic, high-education institutes and other organizations took part in the conference. The conference model was divided into two sessions, including oral presentations and keynote speeches. In the first part, some scholars, whose submissions were selected as the excellent papers, were given 15 minutes to perform their oral presentations one by one. Then in the second part, keynote speakers were each allocated 30-45 minutes to hold their speeches. We were very honored to have Prof. Guoqiang Han, from South China University of Technology as our Conference Chairman. In the keynote presentation part, we invited 16 professors as our keynote speakers. The first keynote speaker, Prof. Junlong Chen, Distinguished Chair Professor, Doctoral Supervisor, Dean of School of Computer Science and Engineering, from South University of Technology. The others keynote speakers as follow: Prof. Guoliang Chen, Parallel algorithms, high performance computing experts; Prof. Anhui Liang, the director of the interdisciplinary research center of optical fiber communication and bio-optics, Shandong University of Science and Technology; Prof. Weijia Jia, from International College of Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University; Prof. Zhengtian Fang, from La Trobe University in Australia; Prof. Yutong Lu, from Sun Yat-sen University; Prof. Young Liang, from Macau University of Science and Technology; Prof. Nong Xiao, from Sun Yat-sen University; Prof. Xiaofeng Zhu, from University of Electronic Science and Technology of China; Prof. Jianxin Wang, from Central South University; Prof. Xuan Wang, from Harbin Institute of Technology institute; Prof. Guoqiang Zhong, a member of ACM, IEEE, IAPR and China computer society; Prof. Bing Shi, a member of IEEE, ACM and CCF; Assoc. Prof. Chunjiang Duanmu, from Zhejiang Normal University; Prof. Yang Yue, from Nankai University; Prof. Na Li, from Xi’dian University. The proceedings present a selection of high-quality papers submitted to the conference by researchers from universities, research institutes, and industry. All papers were subjected to peer-review by conference committee members and international reviewers. The papers were selected based on their quality and their relevance to the conference. The proceedings present recent advances in the fields of Direction of Big data, Direction of Artificial Intelligence, Direction of Medical and health care and others related research. Qin Lei discusses the neglected topic of the China-centred transnational internationalist movement that was initiated by Willi Münzenberg and his circle in “Conjuring a Battling China”. Münzenberg’s left-wing popular front campaign existed throughout the 1920s and 1930s. The dominant narrative of Republican China usually focuses on the civil war between nationalists and communists. Lei, however, discloses other actors in this setting. She focuses on how media for working-class readers of Weimar Germany influenced the image of China as a newly awakened nation willing to fight for its revolutionary renewal. This image travelled back to China, and Lei scrutinises how Chinese members of the Communist International, but also Chinese left-wing intellectuals in general responded to it.

This chapter focuses on China’s earliest documentaries about lesbian subjects, The Box (Ying Weiwei, 2001) and Dyke March (Shi Tou/Ming Ming, 2004), examining the imbrication of technique and content, and the issue of “objectivity” in documentary filmmaking. It further raises the question of how we produce knowledge about social others. Foregrounding the tension between The Box’s knowledge/power scheme and LGBTQ-oriented politics, I then turn to Dyke March to explore the contrast in its sensitivity to the socio-political specificities of its subjects, and its political activist responsibility for its subjects. This chapter finally introduces four more recent lesbian documentaries from China, highlighting a developing trend in Chinese lesbian documentary filmmaking: independent production that emphasizes both collaboration and the specificity of a lesbian identity.
