Abstract:
Wellness tourism is fast growing nowadays as alternative tourism developed from conventional spa tourism into special-interest tourism. Therefore, it is interesting to study the phenomenon of this fast developing industry in Bali in order to reveal its advantage for one’s wellness on the basis of the following question: What factors are contributive to the tourists’ intention in enjoying wellness tourism?. This study aims to explore the factors of belief-forming the tourists’ intention or interest to enjoy wellness tourism. The research adopts planned behavior theory (PBT) as its theoretical framework. The data was collected by questionnaires distributed to 100 tourist-respondents accessed by purposive sampling technique. The analysis was quantitatively done using factor analysis technique as a data analytical instrument. The result of the analysis shows that there are 8 belief factors identified to form the tourists’ intention in enjoying wellness tourism. These factors include: 1) the belief in spa’s benefit, 2) price, 3) past experience, 4) moral obligation for health, 5) environmental awareness, 6) personal value, 7) socializing program and 8) health maintenance. It is hoped that this research result would provide valuable information for the development of wellness tourism in Bali.

Abstract:
As mountain-based health and wellness tourism increases, destination competitiveness becomes ever fiercer. The pre-visit expectations and post-visit perceptions of tourists and the tourists’ behavioral intentions are related to the competitiveness of mountain-based health and wellness tourist destinations. Using structural equation modeling (SEM), we explored the factors that affect destination competitiveness and its relationships with tourism satisfaction and tourists’ behavioral intentions to return to and to recommend the location to others. We used a questionnaire for data collection from 550 tourists who visited a mountain-based health and wellness tourist destination in Panzhihua, China. The results suggested that there is an indirect positive correlation between tourists’ satisfaction and destination competitiveness, as well as a direct positive correlation between behavioral intentions and destination competitiveness, illustrating that tourist behavioral intentions can be an important factor in destination competitiveness. In the case of Panzhihua, the tourist source market in China has provided a competitive edge to this city. In addition, considering the environment’s capacity, developing an intention to return in tourists is important for tourism marketing in view of the increasing mountain-based health and wellness tourism competitiveness and concerns about sustainability.

Abstract:
Wellness and spa tourism has recently become a marketing strategy to attract tourists. It plays an important role in hotel industry, resorts and tourist destinations. Wellness and spa services are being required by local and international tourists. The interrelationship among motivations, satisfaction, and revisit intentions remain largely unexplored. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to facilitate understanding of the relationship among these constructs. In addition, very few studies on exploring consumers’ needs for the spa and wellness have been conducted in Malaysian context. Previous studies revealed that gaining deep insights into customer profiles and their desire for wellness and spa within this context needs to be taken into considerations, which encourages the development of wellness and spa tourism business. The findings of this study are believed to be advantageous to the wellness and spa service providers. More specifically, appropriate marketing strategies and tourist motivation will be paying more attention and developed in future research.

Abstract:
Wellness tourism is a segment of tourism that has been widely studied, including the motivations that undertake the trip. Throughout the literature review it was possible to observe that the motivations that are the origin of this type of tourism are diverse, highlighting, the achievement of physical and mental well-being, self-development and personal reward, relaxation and escape, exploration and reflection, and enjoyment of a new experience. Smith and Kelly, 2006 approach the concept from a broader perspective, encompassing several segments: new age tourism, nature tourism, adventure tourism, yoga tourism, spiritual and religious tourism, and voluntary tourism. Also, Ali-Knight (2009) and GWI (2018) consider voluntary tourism an integral segment of wellness tourism as well as thermal tourism, spa tourism, nature tourism, retreat tourism, and social tourism. In addition to the fact that the authors mentioned above consider voluntary tourism a sub-segment of wellness tourism, a study by Coghlan (2015) found, through a project of travel experience in the context of volunteering, in which various social activities were carried out, which can achieve a beneficial health outcome, in addition to an improvement in the well-being and mental health of participants. However, throughout the literature review, it was found that studies addressing the motivations of volunteer tourists are scarce, and none are known to address the relationship between the motivations of wellness tourists and volunteer tourists. In order to fill this gap, a qualitative approach was developed based on semi-structured interviews with individuals who have travelled in the field of voluntary tourism. Thus, we were able to compare the motivations recognized in these interviews with those verified in the literature review in the field of wellness tourism, and to realize that, from an altruistic perspective, the motivations of tourists from both segments are coincident. This finding allows us to consider that, from the perspective of motivations, voluntary tourism can comprise one of the sub-segments of wellness tourism. This study will contribute to increase knowledge about the motivations of wellness and voluntary tourism and understand the similarities between these types of tourism.

Abstract:
Evaluation of land-use suitability can prevent problems, such as environmental disruption, wastage of resources, and ecological disruption, when unsuitable tourism-based exploration is undertaken in an area. This study summarizes a novel concept and proposes the idea of wellness tourism, which constitutes health preservation, sports and recovery, medical healing, and aged nursing, integrated with Chinese culture. A spatial suitability evaluation system for wellness tourism was developed in a mountain area via the integration of the analytic network process-Delphi. As wellness tourism activities diversified, land suitability was assigned to four kinds of wellness tourism activities, while considering their unique requirements. Comparative analysis and five-degree suitable maps of four kinds of activities revealed that Yining City and its peripheral localities have the potential of functioning as a comprehensive and national wellness tourist destination. The counties of Horgos, Huocheng, Qapqal, Zhaosu, Tekes, Tokkuztara, and Narat should make full use of their strengths, as they have the advantage of catering to different wellness tourism activities. This paper discusses some conceptual aspects of wellness tourism, provides an example for the selection of potential areas for wellness tourism in the mountainous regions of China, and provides baseline information that can support the development of wellness tourism.

Abstract:
Health and wellness are two buzzwords making their presence known in a variety of industries including hospitality, tourism, food and beverage and, leisure among others. As the obesity epidemic continues to be at the forefront of people's minds, health and wellness are topics that cannot be overlooked by the tourism and leisure industries. Due to the popularity of American's wanting to live more healthy and active lifestyles the average tourism consumer has changed considerably. The values of American tourists have altered from those of the past and now the tourism industry finds itself attempting to meet the needs and wants of this large and emerging health and wellness market. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there are different groups (market segments) of travelers based on their self proclaimed travel behavior. Using a factor-cluster market segmentation approach, this study attempted to delineate the segments of the U.S. traveling public. Based on four healthy living attitudes factors, cluster analysis was employed to identify similar respondents based on their attitudes towards healthy living. The findings show that there are two distinct groups: High Health Conscious and Low Health Conscious. Gender was shown to be statistically significant between the two groups. The study concludes with marketing implications of the study results, limitations, and suggestions for future research.

Abstract:
Abstract Background:        In recent years a rising concern towards health enhancement activities has been prominent across populations, leading to the emergence of a multi-dollar industry, namely the wellness industry, which spans across a wide spectrum of sectors, ranging from organic food to tourism. In fact, wellness tourism has been growing at an exponential rate, generating high revenues, forecast to rise. Given that millennials have been gradually replacing former generations, in volume size, it becomes evident why this age cohort has garnered massive media attention worldwide. Purpose: Nevertheless, although wellness tourism industry has sparked the attention of academic scholars and industry professionals, scant academic research has been conducted on the wellness travel attitude of this age cohort. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the attitude of millennials’ towards wellness travelling.                            Method:              For the purpose of this study, a qualitative research comprised of 11 in-depth semi-structured interviews was conducted within a sample of individual’s aged 23-35. Conclusion:          The results of this research indicated that this generational segment displayed a particular travel attitude towards wellness tourism, which can be understood from a cognitive, affective, and conative angle. Overall, the main cognitive associations and thoughts with wellness tourism entailed the notion of relaxation, and health-enhancement, whilst the core emotions experienced ranged from inner fulfillment, and happiness to nostalgia and serenity. The main benefits sought involved, escape from daily life and stress relief, which are consistent with prior studies. It was clear from this study that millennials are price-sensitive, and they cherish the variety of activities along with the novelty of experiences when travelling for wellness. This research also sheds light on the most frequently employed travel platforms and channels of communication, which can provide tourism marketing specialists and industry professionals with constructive recommendations in terms of advertising and communication of wellness travel offerings. However, due to time constraints, this study was subject to certain limitations, which hinder the generalizability of results across broader populations and diverse wellness travelers. Future research is thus much anticipated and needed to dig deeper into this lucrative market.

A context of increased demand for wellness tourism is attracting new players in the tourism industry. The concept of wellness tourism has emerged but hasn’t broken through yet: it is already defined and presented in the literature and there is a clear growing demand, however, it is not yet totally clear the players’ strategy, who are still searching how to refine their offerings. The purpose of the present study is to investigate how significant is wellness tourism to today’s consumer needs and how hotels can improve their strategies to better respond to those needs. The study was done with a qualitative case study approach using the Six Senses Hotels Resorts & Spas case and the primary data was collected through a survey and interviews, which were triangulated with secondary data from TripAdvisor. From the results obtained it is evident that, while the categories qualification during a traditional tourism experience and, concretely, a wellness experience can be similar, the prioritization and, itself, the categories value scale that emerge are distinct from each other. Therefore, it is not possible yet to outline the existence of a well-defined gap between wellness tourism concept and the traditional tourism notion. However, with the growing concern for health and the increasing stress levels, the demand for this type of tourism offerings has the tendency to increase. The contribution of this work to Six Senses and other related organizations will be a presentation of possible improvements for the strategy to be implemented, so that they can respond more effectively to consumer needs.

Abstract:
This master thesis aims to provide a complex up-to-date overview of the spa industry in the Czech Republic and to analyze the position of Spa Luhačovice. Having shown the growing global importance of wellness tourism, the focus moves onto the spa industry which plays a major role in wellness. Nevertheless, the medical significance of spas can't be overlooked, especially in the Czech Republic where spas are known for the quality of medical care. While statistical reports from the Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic and from the Czech Statistical Office are being examined and analyzed in the country's perspective, Global Wellness Institute provides the majority of the global wellness and spa data. The thesis shows the current state of the industry in the country with its strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, the practical part is focused on Spa Luhačovice, the biggest spa in Moravia region. Various information and data are compared to overall development of the spa industry in the country. Finally, an interview with the spa representative is conducted to further clarify the findings of this thesis.

Abstract:
Crisis, social discontent, and dissatisfaction among people lead to a greater interest in relaxing the soul, body, and mind as a refuge within tourism. Thus, there are changes and new trends in international health tourism's demand and supply conditions. Even before the deep crisis caused by the new coronavirus pandemic in 2020, people increasingly turned to health and wellness activities while traveling, especially using tourist activities to achieve health. Since consumption patterns are changing among travelers, such as the growing popularity of wellness tourism, new forms of tourism may stimulate future tourism activities, and the changes are expected to push businesses to reevaluate their service designs and distribution channels. When the recovery of the tourism sector is under discussion, it is worth questioning how wellness trends could help tourism and what the perspectives are for the future. Therefore, this chapter makes recommendations based on new tourists' demands and new processes and protocols for the operation of wellness tourism services.

Abstract:
This book identifies a range of issues and emerging trends in relation to medical tourism in the 21st Century. One basic issue is the relationship between medical tourism and the wider concept of health and wellness as a framework for living in the present, and another is determination of the extent to which concepts of health and wellness act as a background for medical tourism and the way in which it is constructed and/or practiced. There is no doubt that wellness tourism is a fundamental part of the wider range of treatments now afforded the medical tourist in addition to the medical procedures themselves, and health is of course the condition that all tourists and the members of a host community aspire to. This chapter examines health and wellness tourism as a necessary part of medical treatment for many patients, as one of the reasons why medical tourism has become popular, and its importance as a background to medical tourism.

Abstract:
Quality of life and travel for the restoration of minds and souls are key concerns of the postpandemic era COVID-19. The devastating effect of the COVID-19 pandemic brought tourism at the beginning of 2021 to a 87% decrease in international tourist arrivals in January, as compared to 2020. Given the current trend, the World Tourism Organization estimated a decrease of 85 % in the first quarter of 2021 over the same period of 2019. This represented a loss of 260 million international arrivals, compared to pre-pandemic levels according to International Tourism Highlights, 2020 Edition. This paper aims to analyze and investigate wellness tourism in Romania and the benefits it offers for mental health. It also proposes development solutions for tourism activities using the potential of people employed in this economic sector – their creativity and innovation. We want to offer innovative and creative solutions for the restoration of wellness tourism in Romania.

Abstract:
Purpose – The intent of this study was to compare the extent to which Croatia’s wellness tourism products are comparable to those in the leading wellness destinations in Europe. The purpose of this paper is to explore wellness experts' perception of possibilities and limitations of Croatia's convergence to contemporary wellness trends, to explore willingness and intention of service providers to improve their wellness tourism products, and to provide some policy recommendations that would bring Croatia's wellness destinations closer to benchmark wellness destinations in Europe. Methodology – This qualitative research is based on primary and secondary data collection. A desk research method was used to identify the key trends, select benchmark destinations, and to analyze Croatia’s wellness tourism offer. For primary data collection, a focus group was used to explore experts' perception on wellness tourism offer in Croatia and willingness and intention of wellness service providers to improve their offer according to global trends. Findings – The research proved that wellness is still an increasingly attractive tourism product, but also revealed large variations in its quality across Europe. Although Croatia’s wellness tourism offer suffers from mediocrity, absence of standards and vision of future development, it has significant potentials to become internationally competitive. Contribution – The main contribution of this research is four-fold: 1) provides overview of new market trends in wellness business, 2) enables insight into current state and ways of improvement of wellness tourism offer in Croatia, 3) discusses intention of wellness managers to improve wellness tourism offer, and 4) provides some policy recommendations to improve its convergence towards global standards and best practices.
