The presenting thesis is discussed Chung Wen Yin''s “Island Trilogy”: the body is a key point of view by a way to analyze the text. Based on Chung Wen Yin and the describers are females, does it mean that taking back a historical right of speech equals breaking through a frame of patriarchy or having a completely consciousness after reconstructing sights of the city, recording male disease, discussing sexual power and the bodies’ changes? Otherwise, are they still limited? One chapter one book, there are three parts: Decayed Lust is a description of young men and women in Taipei from 1989 to 2006 by using a sensitive sense of young females. And how to picture the power relationship between men and women from their bodies under the raising and bubble economy. Duan Ge Xing is individually described men in Chung’s, Shu Yi Xiao and Liu Yu Shu, who is a local Taiwanese but adopted as a son of mainlanders. The writing style is similar to novels in chapter- many male characters in this book describe the participation in the history process. The author depicts the point in the male body weak. While they all get ill, there is a possibility of entering by medical matters, diet, women, and so on. The third part, Shang Ge Xing, is told by an individual sight of woman in their or others stories repeatedly. The changing and functions of female bodies widens the special space in women, making efforts to defeat against father right.

This thesis commences with the discussion on the background of Chung Wen-yin, the author of Duan Ge Xing, as well as the themes presented in the work. The exploration of time setting and the writer''s growing environment reflects the influence of literary trends and family life on Chung Wen-yin and discloses the motifs she creates in the story. The analysis of portrayals of men in Duan Ge Xing begins with Chung Sheng. His image as a Confucian scholar, who pursues not only inner growth but also a better world for people, is examined by inspecting the depiction of his life. His ideal for Pantisocracy, shown in his implementation of the left-wing social movements, though failed, sets a model for intellectuals. Secondly, the discussion on Chung Liu’s indulgence in material life makes contrast between the distinct life choices made by Chung Sheng and Chung Liu; therefore, Chung Liu’s image as a person who has no fixed values and easily yields himself to life is highlighted. Thirdly, to present different aspects of male life stories, other male characters’ attitudes and reactions to life are classified according to the exploration of their different life choices in the story. With the above discussion, this thesis, in terms of Confucian ethics, observes Chung Sheng and Chung Liu’s choices between realization of the individual and the collective, as well as their different Confucian images. Moreover, the analysis of the text presents various enlightenment conveyed in Chung Wen-yin’s depictions of challenges from both fate and self weakness that male life has to face. That is, Chung Wen-yin’s understanding and sympathy for male life are reflected in her portrayals of different male images and their different attitudes toward life in Duan Ge Xing. With her strong female awareness, keen observation, and perception, Chung Wen-yin portrays how men steer their course of life when facing challenges. Also, by creating a distinct writing prospect while echoing with contemporary female writers’ portrayals of men, Chung Wen-yin shows her unique insight and concern, rendering distinctive value to Duan Ge Xing.

Since the 1960s, Asian American composer Chou, Wen-Chung (1923- ) used the I-Ching philosophy as both his mode of expression and underlying composing principle. From this, he pioneered a unique pitch system, variable modes. Today, this variable mode of thinking continues to influence Asian American composers, calling on them to draw from their "root" culture. As Chou, Wen-Chung says time and time again, "successful composers must acknowledge, appreciate, and reflect on their own culture. This renders their work unique." As such, this thesis will analyze Cursive (1963) by Chou, Wen-Chung from the lens of the variable mode technique. This will shed light on other fundamental elements and parlay into analysis of the work's deeper meaning. This enables an understanding of the Asian spirit behind the essence of the piece: how the composer integrated Asian traditional calligraphy's cursive form with Western musical vocabulary.

This research paper focuses on narrative expression in Chung Wen-Yin’s novel. From the perspective of feminine writing, this paper analyzes the writing meaning and effect through the narrative strategies adopted in the texts. This paper intends to discuss the narrative characteristic in Chung Wen-Yin’s novel from four different aspects. It expresses females’ multiple viewpoints and the feminine polyphony with exquisite flow in their works, in a writing domain which tolerates grandstanding instead of eliminating the differences. First of all, it shapes a self-centered image from Chung Wen-Yin’s life experience; regardless of dark or bright memory, it is based on myself to link to the previous time and uses as an ever being basis. The southern homeland and Taipei hometown are the geographic coordinates in the author’s spiritual space. Chung Wen-Yin uses self-contemplated as center of her creation. She narrates a feature of female experience and refers author’s thought and feeling towards life and living, through characters’ search for meaning of essential life in the novel. Second, it observes Chung Wen-Yin’s rich female characteristic in her texts, which is a narrate technique of exquisite extension; it recovers things’ original appearances an forms a highly intensive text; at the same time, it utilizes the way of suture to assemble segments, reassemble objects and construct female’s memory and percipience as the writing domain. And female’s detail description itself has a particular meaning which surpasses the text content. In addition, the narrative viewpoint in the text is author’s story telling sound and object observing method. With the transformation of characters’ viewpoints to reach the effect of extending view-domain and observing from diverse perspectives, and achieve the practice of female subject from the voice of a female narrator. As for aspect of author’s travel writing, she is good at applying letter/diary formation to express internal and private soliloquy, which is a discourse of self-contemplated and an interpretation for the process of self-generation. Third, motherhood is Chung Wen-Yin’s important origin of writing. Seeing oneself from the reflection in mirrors with different viewpoint, and overcoming the difficulties between the contradictory mother-daughter relationships by writing. The toleration energy and indomitable character from the mother have formed a conflict contrast and impacted the author’s life tremendously. With lukewarm relationship and the feeling to hang in doubt between the mother and daughter, but somehow involved and implicated with each other; therefore author writes the coarse relation between mother and daughter, which retrospect to the umbilical cord relation. At last, about Chung Wen-Yin’s travel writing, which is female’s run away to recall the different voice inside oneself. The collision with others in the circuitous journey agitates the differential oneself after coming back home, which completes the traveling significance in the circular structure of separation. The predestination of crossing boundaries and shaking off passiveness from the travel of female, which is able to demonstrate the important meaning of one’s independence and capability. To sum up the above discussion for this paper, it is expected to carry out the research perspectives for Chung Wen-Yin’s novel and search for the existent representation of motherhood and female, which expresses the narrative esthetics and literary values retained in the writing tone of feminine characteristic.

The study aims to discuss antecedent female travel poets first, which finds the female travel writing style goes from reporting to themselves having a mental inward look and self reflection. They establish the self-identity by tracking down the classical character and recognize themselves again during the encountering with other people from different place. They feel the change of the times as well as the conflict of different cultures by observing the landscapes while traveling, which initiates the rethinking of the self-faith and the understanding of their inner self. This research aim of this paper is the homeland representation in Chinese Malaysian literature in the 90s in Taiwan. With this research purpose, the researcher focuses on three Malaysian writers in Taiwan: Chin-shu Huang, I-wen Chung, and Da-wei Chen. By observing and discussing their representative works in different genres, which are novel, essay, and poem respectively, the researcher intends to unveil how homeland representation is written and presented in these works. The dissertation consists of five chapters. The first chapter gives forth the research motivation, definitions of related terms, and provides a general description of the development of Chinese Malaysian literature in Taiwan. Chapter 2 focuses on the outspoken writer Chin-shu Huang. The characters of his first published two novels are basically the same: the bakelite forest was described as the horrible, painstaking and impoverished aspect of life, which may represent the homeland image he has seen throughout his life. This may also be the indication of the life style in his own homeland image, in which people need to strive for living. His later works not only focuses on the writing of bakelite forest, but also use the sarcasm of novel plots to point out the scattered lives and the identification difficulty of Chinese origin population. In addition, his cynical tone of speech and attitude also reveal his mocking of politics and culture. Chapter 3 discusses the I-wen Chung’s essay to illustrate how homeland writing can be elaborated into the stretch of personal affection. By exploring on the details of life, homeland image is personalized. For her, the public and the historical structures are not her main points to convey. Rather, the personal affection and the expanding of homeland images are her main concern. Chapter 4 focuses on Da-wei Chen’s epics of the Malay Archipelago. In these works, he not only uses the Malay Archipelago history as his context of narration, but also plays as the narrator of the Malay Archipelago history. In this way, the grand homeland image of his work is revealed. As he frequently merges the image of Malay Archipelago history in his poems, by reading his poems, it seems that the readers could experience and, even in advance, construe the history within this writing context. Chapter 5 then gives a summery of this research.
