Abstract:

Abstract Introduction: Wendigo psychosis is considered an endemic psychiatric disorder associated with culture. It manifests through compulsive, strong attacks of cannibalistic behaviors. It mainly concerns Algonquian: Cree tribes and people living in the Northern Ojibwa area. Material and methods: In our article, we have collected available publications on Wendigo’s psychosis. This area included Internet databases: PubMed and Google Scholar, from the first reports on the disease to the latest information. Due to culture-bound syndromes and the rarity of occurrence in the present time at work, we focused not only on symptoms, treatment or diagnosis, but also on historical and ethnographic features. Discussion: The first remarks on this disorder derive from the Powhatan dictionary which was used by the Algonquian tribe. In the 1960s there were 70 cases of the disease, but the available epidemiologic data is poor. There are many legends about the mythical creature Wendigo and its likeness is repeatedly used in popular culture. Most of the symptoms exhibited by those suffering from this dysfunction is related to famine and chronic loneliness, e.g. apathy, neurosis. Summary: The treatment of the psychosis in the past was based on folk beliefs, as well as homicide. Modern medicine offers a wide spectrum of antipsychotic drugs whose use is focused on the elimination of side effects. Pharmacotherapy consists in administering to the sick drugs from the group of benzodiazepines or antipsychotic agents of both the first and the second generation.

Abstract:

This study is entitled "Analysis of Translation Methods and Techniques in the Novel Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey. Study: Translation ". The data source used is a novel titled the Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey. The objectives of this research are to (1) identify the translation method used in the translation of the novel The Curse of the Wendigo by Rick Yancey. (2) identify the types of translation techniques used in the translation of Rick Yancey's novel The Curse of the Wendigo. (3) identify the relationship between the translation methods and techniques used in the translation of Rick Yancey's novel The Curse of the Wendigo. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive approach. The theoretical basis of this research is the theory of the Newmark translation method (1988) and the Molina & Albir (2002) translation techniques. The results of this study indicate that there are: (1) seven translation methods used, namely literal (3.2%), faithful (3.2%), semantic (45.2%), adaptation (3.2%) ), idiomatic (3.2%), free (9.7%), and communicative (32.3%). (2) 17 translation techniques used are adaptation (1.2%), amplification (2.4%), borrowing (3.5%), calculating (2.4%), compensation (1.2%), description (2.4%), prevalent equivalent (3.5%), generalization (2.4%), linguistic amplification (9.4%), linguistic compression (17.6%), literal (20%), modulation ( 7.1%), particularization (2.4%), reduction (1.2%), substitution (1.2%), variation (3.5%), and transposition (18.8%). (3) six of the seven translation methods related to the translation technique used.

Abstract:

In 1885, in the midst of the North-West Resistance in which Indigenous people took up arms against the colonial Canadian state, three Cree men executed an elderly Cree woman. At their trial for murder, the defendants were found guilty. They avoided execution because colonial authorities became convinced that they believed that their victim was a wendigo, a cannibal spirit. Killing a wendigo was justified under Cree law and so, argued one judge, the defendants lacked the mens rea necessary to sustain a murder conviction. The history of this case shows the limits of colonial legal jurisdiction and sovereignty. Scarce resources, hostile territory and Indigenous resistance hampered the colonial state's efforts to consolidate its legal control over the Canadian frontier. This essay notes the importance of these forces, but also argues that common law jurisprudence itself could impair the ability of the state to hold Indigenous defendants criminally responsible. Colonial officials regularly invoked the idea that Indigenous people adhered to different legal and normative orders in order to illustrate their supposed inferiority. However, this official recognition of the legal pluralism of the North-West could undermine a defendant's responsibility and cut against efforts to assert the exclusive jurisdiction of Canadian criminal law.

Abstract:

Salah satu komponen penting bagi suatu perusahaan air minum adalah pengoperasian stasiun pompa yang berfungsi untuk mengatur suplai air dari sumber air yang ada menuju ke pelanggan. Untuk mengoperasikan pompa air tersebut, diperlukan motor listrik sebagai penggeraknya. Agar pemakaian energi yang diperlukan untuk mengopersikan motor listrik dapat diatur, maka diperlukan manajemen energi listrik pada stasiun pompa tersebut. Salah satu contoh stasiun pompa adalah pada perusahaan daerah air minum (PDAM) Unit Wendit Kota Malang. Unit ini terdiri atas 3 stasiun pompa yakni Wendit 1, Wendit 2 dan Wendit 3. Ketiga bagian ini disuplai oleh 2 buah trafo dengan kapasitas 1110 kVA untuk Wendit 2 dan 1730 kVA untuk Wendit 1 dan 3. Dari hasil pengukuran faktor daya pada ketiga bagian tersebut, diketahui bahwa nilai faktor daya pada stasiun pompa Wendit 3 sebesar 0,82. Nilai ini tidak memenuhi standart minimal PLN, yakni 0,85. Jika faktor daya kurang dari 0,85 maka industri akan dikenai biaya kelebihan pemakaian daya reaktif (kVARh). Oleh karena itu perlu adanya kajian terhadap manajemen energi pada stasiun pompa PDAM Unit Wendit Kota Malang. Untuk memperbaiki faktor daya yang rendah tersebut, ada dua rekomendasi yang diberikan, yakni pemasangan VSD (Variabel Speed Drive) pada stasiun pompa PDAM Unit Wendit 1 dan 3 serta pemasangan Capasitor Bank pada stasiun pompa PDAM Unit Wendit 2. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, nilai faktor daya PDAM Wendit 3 yang semula 0,82 meningkat menjadi 0,9. Selain itu, terdapat penghematan pemakaian energi listrik per bulan sebesar 10,48% pada PDAM Unit Wendit 1 dan 3 dan 28,32% pada PDAM Unit Wendit 2.

By examining the excavated bamboo slips and boards of Shuihudi 睡虎地 Western Han tomb no. 77 in Yunmeng 雲夢, it is possible to know that the name of the tomb occupant was Yue Ren 越人 and that he served as an Office Assistant 官佐 in Anlu 安陸 County from the ninth year (171 bce.) of the reign of Western Han Emperor Wendi 文帝 (r. 180–157 bce.) to the seventh year (157 bce.) of the Houyuan 後元 era (163–157 bce.) of his reign. In addition, we can understand a number of the actions and life events of Yue Ren and his colleagues and family members, and know that in the tenth month of the third year of the Houyuan era of Wendi’s reign (161 bce.), Yue Ren and his family moved their residence to Luli 路里. Moreover, by analyzing the slips and boards of tomb no. 77, and viewing these in connection with lacquerware items on which are inscribed two graphs spelling out “Luli” 路里 excavated from the Shuihudi Qin tombs, it can be concluded that from the Qin dynasty to the early Western Han dynasty, residents of Luli were entombed in the cemetery at Shuihudi. This provides what is currently the strongest evidence for arguing that the ancient walled town at Yunmeng 雲夢古城—also referred to as the “Walled Town of the Chu King” 楚王城—is the ruins of the walled town that was seat of Anlu County in the Qin and Han periods.

The projected Calendar of Hanseatic Sources from the WendishQuarterThe article presenls a project, now in its inception, which aims to calendar archival material in Lübeck, Hamburg, Lüneburg, Wismar, Rostock, Stralsund and Greifswald dating from the period 1531 to 1668. It follows the example of the calendars of the sources in the archives of Cologne (1896/1903), Danzig (1913) and Braunschweig (forthcoming) in the same period and will close the gap, making the material for the fourth, Wendish quarter of the Hanse readily available. The article shows how wide-ranged the material in Wismar town archive is and makes proposals about how to structure the project and organise the material from the Wendish archives in a data base.

Abstract:

The increase in population is 0.9% each year. It affects the amount of water demand in Malang City. From 2014 to 2016 the water demand in Malang City reached 30,364,684m³. This is a balanced water source production in Malang City, which is around 11.7% of the total water source in the Greater Malang region. Therefore, cooperation between a cooperation agreement from 2002 to 2022. The cooperation between Malang Regency Government and Malang City Government. The research method used for Wendit Resources and the problems is a descriptive approach to the management of Wendit Resources. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. The theory used is Intergovernmental Networks Robert Agranoff which emphasizes the existence of key actors and joint actions in implementing cooperation. The results of the study show that there are action networks in the implementation of cooperation and management of Wendit Resources. Malang Regency Government as a water source provider and Malang City Government utilizes and manages the water source to meet water needs in Malang City. The problem in cooperation is the existence of disputes over the cost of contributions between the two regions and less intense coordination between the two regions.

Abstract:

Abstract In the last thirty years, theologians such as Milbank and Hauerwas have allowed ecclesiology to play a fundamental role in theology. This move is grounded in their conviction that the meaning of Christianity consists primarily not in its theory and doctrine but in its lived form, which is the church. Interestingly, this contemporary 'turn to the church' in many ways resembles an earlier revival of ecclesiology in the beginning of the twentieth century in Roman Catholic theology. In this paper, I will focus on the work of Henri de Lubac, and demonstrate how the particular way in which he develops his idea of the church might offer valuable insights for contemporary theology. First, I sketch how his particular understanding of the church as the social and historical embodiment of God's gracious action immediately implied an embrace of the social and historical world. Second, I argue that notwithstanding all his emphasis on the church, his particular understanding of the church as springing from the Eucharist means that the church is never idolized but always points beyond itself to God. I conclude by relating these insights to the contemporary turn to the church.

Abstract:

Wendita calysina (commonly known as burrito) is an indigenous Paraguayan medical plat, whose essential oil (EO) is characterized by some pharmaceutical properties. In particular, the main component is D-carvone, with anticancer action and antimicrobial properties against various microorganisms. In this work, supercritical CO2 (SC-CO2) was used for the extraction of volatile compounds from this plant, selecting different operative conditions to optimize the extract yield and purity. Pressure was varied from 80 to 250 bar, and two CO2 flow rates (0.8 kg/h and 1.2 kg/h) were tested. The highest EO percentage in the extract was obtained operating at 100 bar and 40 °C, using ground Wendita calysina leaves of 250 µm. CO2 flow rate did not influence the extraction yield, indicating that an internal mass transfer resistance governs this process. The largely prevailing compound identified in the extract was D-carvone, with a mean percentage up to 90% w/w.

ZusammenfassungIn einer Online-Befragung im Frühjahr 2012 wurden 1081 Berufstätige aus medizinisch-psychotherapeutischen und pädagogischen Handlungsfeldern zu ihrem Aus-, Fort und Weiterbildungsbedarf in Bezug auf die The-matik sexueller Kindesmissbrauch und zur Lehrmethode E-Learning befragt. Die meisten berichteten über Erfahrung mit Fällen von sexuellem Kindesmissbrauch und Unsicherheiten in der Gesprächsführung mit betroffenen Kindern und Jugendlichen bzw. mit Eltern, Unsicherheiten mit rechtlichen Vorgaben und dem Erkennen von Auffälligkeiten und Hin-weiszeichen und sehen darin ihren Bildungs-bedarf. Die Lehrmethode E-Learning wird als flexibles Lernmedium generell zwar begrüßt, dennoch werden einschränkend die erhöhte Selbstmotivation und der fehlende persönliche Austausch kritisiert. Als Fazit kann festgehal-ten werden, dass eine grundlegende und kon-tinuierliche Aus-, Fort- und Weiterbildung im Umgang mit Fällen von sexuellem Kindesmissbrauch für medizinische Berufsgruppen not-wendig ist und dass E-Learning in einem vielfältigen Angebotsspektrum eine geeignete Lehrform darstellen kann.

En affirmant l’ancrage historique de ces sciences dans la civilisation chinoise, et en reconnaissant l’autorité de l’État en matière de rites, Mei donne une légitimité à la nouvelle dynastie. Il définit un domaine en même temps qui est du ressort du seul spécialiste, travaillant ainsi à construire sa propre identité professionnelle.

The low power factor in the electricity installation of Sumber Wendit 3 water pumping stations causes a bill of excess reactive energy usage or kVARh, so that the cost of using electricity becomes higher. The excess use of reactive energy can be compensated by additional investment in installing capacitor banks in the main distribution panel (MDP) Sumber Wendit 3 water pump station. Based on the data and problems, it is planned to install capacitor banks that meet the standards with a target of 0.90 and 0.95 lagging. From the results of the planning, we need 150 kVAR and 250 kVAR capacitors, with an investment value of Rp. 94,983,790 and - Rp. 120,781,210. After an investment feasibility test using the Payback Period (PP) method, it is known that for a 150 kVAR bank capacitors, the investment return is technically 2.88 months and economically is 4.01 and 3.17 months. For 250 kVAR bank capacitors, the return on investment is technically 3.66 months and economically 5.1 and 4.03 months. When compared with the economic life of the investment is 10 years, the investment of the bank capacitor installation project is very profitable and feasible to carry out

We all know vampires. Count Dracula and Nosferatu, maybe Blade and Angel, or Stephenie Meyer’s sparkling beau, Edward Cullen. In fact, the Euro-American vampire myth has long become one of the most reliable and bestselling fun-rides the entertainment industries around the world have to offer. Quite recently, however, a new type of fanged villain has entered the mainstream stage: the American Indian vampire. Fully equipped with war bonnets, buckskin clothes, and sharp teeth, the vampires of recent U.S. film productions, such as Blade, the Series or the Twilight Saga, employ both the Euro-American vampire trope and denigrating discourses of race and savagery. It is also against this backdrop that American Indian authors and filmmakers have set out to renegotiate not only U.S. America’s myth of the racially overdrawn “savage Indian,” but also the vampire trope per se. Drawing on American Indian myths and folklore that previous scholarship has placed into direct relationship to the Anglo-European vampire narrative, and on recent U.S. mainstream commodifications of these myths, my paper traces and contextualizes the two oppositional yet intimately linked narratives of American Indian vampirism ensuing today: the commodified image of the “Indian” vampire and the renegotiated vampire tropes created by American Indian authors and filmmakers.

Sorbian is a West Slavic language spoken in eastern Germany, in Saxony and Brandenburg near the borders of Poland and the Czech Republic, and is recognized as an endangered language by UNESCO (Moseley 2012). It is commonly referred to as Sorbian in English, but has historically been referred to as both Wendish and Lusatian. The Sorbian speech area used to expand from its northernmost point approximately 50 km south-east of Berlin to its southernmost point approximately 8 km from the borders of the Czech Republic (Stone 1993). This area is also referred to as Lusatia (Figure 1). However, the Sorbian-speaking area continues to shrink every year and is currently much smaller than Stone (1993) describes. Upper Sorbian is currently only used in daily communication in and immediately around Budyšin (personal communication, Lechosław Jocz).

Proton therapy uses proton beams with energies typically between 50 and 230 MeV to treat cancerous tumors very efficiently, while protecting as much as possible surrounding healthy tissues from radiation damage. Protons interacting with matter inevitably induce secondary radiation from which all people inside the proton therapy center have to be protected. The ambient dose equivalent H*(10) in such a facility is mainly due to neutrons, which can have energies up to 230 MeV. Although various dose monitoring systems sensitive to high energy neutrons have already been developed, the response function of these detectors is often insufficiently characterized, and so are the calibration factors appropriate for the specific neutron spectra encountered inside a proton therapy facility. In this work, the Monte Carlo code MCNPX 2.5.0 has been used to study the response function of the extended-range rem-meter WENDI-2 from thermal energies up to 5 GeV. A good match has been obtained with equivalent simulation results found in literature. As a first step towards the characterization of the WENDI-2 response in continuous neutron fields, MCNPX simulations have also been carried out for the case-study of a bunker around an 18 MeV H-cyclotron, which involves neutron fields from thermal energies up to 18 MeV.

ArgumentThis article documents the reasoning in a mathematical work by Mei Wending, one of the most prolific mathematicians in seventeenth-century China. Based on an analysis of the mathematical content, we present Mei’s systematic treatment of this particular genre of problems, fangcheng, and his efforts to refute the traditional practices in works that appeared earlier. His arguments were supported by the epistemological values he utilized to establish his system and refute the flaws in the traditional approaches. Moreover, in the context of the competition between the Chinese and Western approaches to mathematics, Mei was motivated to demonstrate that the genre of fangcheng problems was purely a “Chinese” achievement, not discussed by the Jesuits. Mei’s motivations were mostly expressed primarily in the prefaces to his works, in his correspondence with other scholars, in synopses of his poems, and in biographical records of some of his contemporaries.

Abstract:

Cheleleka peatland is located at the eastern side of Lake Hawassa and its biological communities face a variety of anthropogenic factors such as agricultural expansion, water diversion, settlement and subsequent peatland drainage and peat extraction. The decomposing products were influenced by various anthropogenic activities. This study aims to identify the impact of human activities on peat characteristics. The result indicates that the peat soil is acidic having a pH value ranging from 4.1-to-4.7 and containing humic acid due to excessive accumulation of organic matter and nutrients. The maturity level of the peat was almost similar in all study sites, except for the Daka site, and are classified under mostly decomposed. At Wesha, Werka, Wendo, Shalo, Cheffe, and Wendo, sites the maturity of the peat was classified under sapric soil. Exceptionally, at Daka Site, the peat maturity level was hemic. The percentage of sand, clay, and silt of the peatland range 40-50% clay, 30-40% silt and 10-20% sandy. The mean organic carbon content of Cheleleka peatland ranged from 4.48 to 38.65% and positively correlated with the thickness of the peat and negatively correlated with the ash content of the peat. The main effects of unsustainable landuse practice on peatland are peat reduction/complete loss, reduce water and nutrient retention capacity due to drainage and compaction of peat due to overgrazing. Changes in drainage, vegetation cover, and extraction of peat had resulted in differing outcomes from decomposition processes, and the properties of peats on the disturbed sites had changed.

AbstractThis work presents recombination methods used for secondary radiation measurements at the Facility for Proton Radiotherapy of Eye Cancer at the Institute for Nuclear Physics, IFJ, in Krakow (Poland). The measurements ofH*(10) were performed, with REM-2 tissue equivalent chamber in two halls of cyclotrons AIC-144 and Proteus C-235 and in the corridors close to treatment rooms. The measurements were completed by determination of gamma radiation component, using a hydrogen-free recombination chamber. The results were compared with the measurements using rem meter types FHT 762 (WENDI-II) and NM2 FHT 192 gamma probe and with stationary dosimetric system.
