Abstract:

I de senere år er praksisteorier blevet anvendt indenfor undersøgelser og analyser af informationskompetence. Teorierne er dog indbyrdes forskellige og vil derfor have forskellige implikationer for analyser af informationskompetence. Det er artiklens formål at sammenligne to praksisteorier, nemlig Theodore Schatzki ́s og Etienne Wenger ́s teorier med hensyn til hvad de indebærer for et emne som informationskompetence. De to tilgange har en del fælles træk men har også mange forskelle. Artiklen konkluderer at Schatzki ́s tilgang indebærer at man kan tale om såvel en informationspraksis som en informationskompetencepraksis. Kompetence og dermed informationskompetence kan ikke betragtes isoleret, men skal ses i sammenhæng med øvrige elementer i definitionen af en social praksis. Denne praksis indgår samtidig i et net af mange praksisser. Et centralt tema inden for emnet informationskompetence kan derfor være hvordan en informationspraksis kan opretholdes eller transformeres gennem netop dens sammenkædning med andre praksisser. Wenger ́s tilgang betyder derimod at man kan tale om et praksisfællesskabs kompetencesystem. På baggrund af en meningsforhandling udvikler praksisfællesskabet sitkompetencesystem og herunder dets informationskompetencesystem. Dette kan dog i f.eks. en organisation udfordres af andre værdier og dermed få vanskeligt ved at blive anerkendt som kompetencer.Et centralt tema inden for emnet informationskompetence kan derfor være den forskellighed og eventuelle konflikt, der kan være mellem praksisfællesskabets læreprocesser og kompetencesystem og de kravsom f.eks. den omkringliggende organisation opstiller. Artiklen konkluderer at det for begge teorier er vanskeligt at planlægge en ændring i en informationspraksis eller i et informationskompetencesystem. Forandringer er nemlig konstitueret af enten netværket af praksisser eller af praksisfællesskabets meningsforhandlinger.

Abstract:

A persistent question associated with theories of situated learning is how to put them into action. The concept of situated learning, in which the learner and the task are placed in the context of the overall social practice, stems from Lave (1988) and Lave et al.'s (1988) recognition that a traditional view of learning as the end result of a process of transmitting knowledge is inadequate. Instead, they propose looking at learning from the learner's perspective and viewing learning as a continuous process in which what is learned depends on what has been learned before and the context in which the learner is immersed—a process known as “legitimate peripheral participation” (Lave and Wenger 1991). This paper explains how a situated-learning experience was operationalized in a context in which the learners' task was to develop a plan for auditing the development of a dysfunctional information system. It identifies and analyzes the situated learning from the viewpoint of dimensions of educational design associated with communities of practice (Wenger 1998). Here, the community of practice consisted of master's-level students assuming the auditor's role. In a community of practice, members of the group learn from each other by working together as they develop a common sense of purpose, including a common way of thinking about how work gets done and what is necessary to accomplish a task. The analysis is based on the text of synchronous class discussion from a web class session. Also discussed are implications of communities of practice implemented through synchronous discussion for educational design and professional practice.

Abstract:

<span lang="EN-US">Communities of practice is a concept widely adopted by teacher educators affiliated with a practice-based education and situated learning. It provides a lens to examine how experienced and novice teachers engage in collaborative problem-solving and learn from each other in emergent interactions. Both face-to-face and virtual communities of professionals provide room for learning opportunities, with dynamic trajectories from more peripheral to more central forms of participation. According to this theoretical framework (</span><span lang="FR">LAVE; WENGER, 1991; WENGER, 1998; WENGER et al., 2002, 2011)</span><span lang="EN-US">, teachers learn from engagement with others and build their understandings upon interactions focused on the practice of the community. ELF is a concept that is not yet reified among English language teachers in Brazil but is beginning to catch the attention of a wider group of professionals, since English is now compulsory in basic education and the national curriculum defines English as a lingua franca. In this paper we analyze interactions in a Facebook community of teachers (BrELT Brazil´s English Language Teachers) who, over a period of two months, discussed the meanings of ELF and how it was/could be contextualized in their classrooms. </span><span lang="EN-US">We looked into the various ways in which the sharing of information and experiences were displayed and the strategic resources employed to advance their learning on this theme. The BrELT group reconstructed their knowledge on ELF, interacting in democratic ways and showing how they care about their domain. Also, the group revealed to be a potential learning site, as they engaged in the activity and negotiated new meanings. Finally, the BrELT community illustrates how social media can play an important role in teacher development, as it can bring together professionals with different levels of expertise who are willing to share their experience.</span>

Les principales propositions visant à aménager les dispositifs de formation profession- nelle initiale des enseignants en vue de renforcer le partenariat université-école(s) sont fondées sur la théorie des communautés de pratique (Lave & Wenger, 1991). Au sein de cette théorie, ces dispositifs sont envisagés comme des environnements ouverts de formation dans lesquels les significations accordées aux expériences de métier sont le résultat d’un processus de négociation. Or, les circonstances dans lesquelles se joue cette négociation restent assez obscures. Cet article vise à illustrer empiriquement des postulats issus d’une théorie de l’apprentissage (Nelson, 2008) et l’action collective (Wittgenstein, 1996) permettant de requalifier la négociation en formation professionnelle.

Abstract:

Although the sociocultural theory (henceforth SCT) of mental activity, rooted in the work of L. S. Vygotsky and his colleagues, has certainly come to the fore in developmental and educational research (cf. Forman, et al. 1993, Lave and Wenger 1991, Moll 1990, Newman, et al. 1989), it is still very much the “new kid on the block” as far as SLA research is concerned. Recently, however, SCT has begun to enjoy increased attention among L2 researchers, as is amply attested in the bibliography of this paper. This research has focused on three general areas: activity theory and the relevance of motives and goals for L2 learning; the role of private speech in L2 learning; and learning in the zone of proximal development. These areas serve as the organizing basis for the survey that follows. The overview begins, however, with a brief, but necessary, overview of the theory itself.

Abstract:

Coaches often identify social learning situations as the most valuable and influential to their learning. Thus, researchers have proposed implementing social learning initiatives, in particular, the community of practice approach. The purpose of the present study was to explore how an existing coach community of practice was created and sustained in a university setting, and to assess what value was created by participating in the community of practice. Participants included four National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 coaches from a university in the Southwestern United States. Data collection included an individual interview with each coach. Interviews were analysed using a value creation framework. The findings revealed that the coaches created value within all five cycles of Wenger et al.’s framework. In particular, the coaches learned a number of coaching strategies, some of which they were able to implement, and as a result, observe benefits in their coaching and athletes’ performance.

Managing complex socio-ecological fishery systems, following an Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries, calls for a broad range of information covering many components of the system, intensified sharing of data and knowledge (to accelerate social learning and adaptive management), and a much tighter collaboration between disciplines and stakeholders. I argue that the time has come to establish one or more communities of practice (sensu Wenger) and that the Internet could be used efficiently for this purpose, enhancing the co-evolution of science and decision-making. Important Internet resources exist and can be mobilized, but the contribution of fishery science is still too fragmented and that of the fishing industry is embryonic. This paper suggests a web infrastructure that would facilitate the needed change.

Abstract:

The study addresses the tensions between the aims and objectives of global, national and local curricula and suggests solutions for mitigating these conflicts using the experience of Estonia as an example. In spite of the success of recent reforms and the good results of students in international comparisons, there are serious deficiencies: an Estonian teacher’s readiness to use professional freedom is modest, personal efficiency, job satisfaction, and students’ motivation to learn is low: there are few outstanding performers. The aim of the study is to propose and analyse a teacher education curriculum innovation model for overcoming the problem. Adaptive model for curriculum design is presented where the predominant outcome-oriented approach was replaced and focus on teaching and learning processes was highlighted, the logic of design in curriculum development was implemented. A model for the practice component of teacher education, based on Wenger`s situated learning model and Engeström’s expansive learning model, is in the focus. It is found that implementing this approach could encourage a development of standards and transform the attitudes of both students and teachers towards increased creativity and professional development. The implementation of the described curriculum innovation model enhances new type of learning and can generate new modules in teacher education curricula. ZusammenfassungSomatoforme Störungen führen häufig zu Frühberentungen. Ziel dieser Arbeit war es, prognostisch relevante Risikofaktoren einer frühzeitigen Berentung zu ermitteln. Hierfür wurden die Daten von 226 Gutachtenprobanden retrospektiv mit Hilfe von 73 aus einer Literaturanalyse gewonnenen Items ausgewertet. Die Ergebnisse wurden mittels telefonischer Nachbefragung von 100 Probanden, die ihr schriftliches Einverständnis gaben, nach einem durchschnittlichen Beobachtungszeitraum von 4,8 Jahren ermittelt. Nur wenige Faktoren konnten signifikant eine frühere Berentung voraussagen. Später tatsächlich berentete Probanden waren vor allem älter, beruflich weniger motiviert und sie wurden häufiger von ihren Arbeitgebern in dem Wunsch nach Frühberentung unterstützt. Auch schätzten sie ihre Gesundheit negativer ein und fühlten sich weniger leistungsfähig. Unsere Daten unterstützen ein bio-psycho-soziales Erklärungsmodell von frühzeitiger Berentung bei Patienten mit funktionellen körperlichen Störungen.

Mindestens jede zweite Brustkrebspatientin wendet komplementäre Therapien an wie Mistel, Spurenelemente oder Enzyme. Ausgegeben wird dafür fast so viel wie für die schulmedizinische Behandlung. Motivation dafür ist meist, selbst etwas gegen die Krankheit tun zu wollen. Diesen Wunsch sollte der Onkologe dafür nutzen, sinnvolle Maßnahmen zu empfehlen. Auf dem diesjährigen Senologenkongress beschäftigte sich das Symposium “Komplementäre Medizin beim Mammakarzinom” mit den verschiedenen Behandlungsangeboten. Gute Daten gibt es für die Akupunktur gegen Chemotherapie-induziertes Erbrechen. Weniger effektiv sind verschiedene Phytotherapeutika gegen östrogenmangelbeschwerden unter endokriner Therapie.

Abstract:

ZusammenfassungErfolgreiche Behandlungsmethoden bei dissoziativen nichtepileptischen Anfällen konnten in der Literatur bisher nicht umfassend dargestellt werden, da insgesamt nur wenige Studien publiziert wurden und deren Ergebnisse sehr heterogen waren. Wir untersuchten retrospektiv 66 stationäre Patienten mit der Diagnose dissoziativer Anfälle, die unserer Epilepsiestation in den Jahren 2000 bis 2002 zugewiesen wurden. Der Therapieerfolg wurde mittels Depressionsskala, neuropsychologischer Untersuchung, Krankheitsbewältigungsfragebogen und der Anfallshäufigkeit erfasst. Nach der Behandlung verbesserte sich die Anfallshäufigkeit signifikant. Ebenso nahm die Depressivität ab, der neuropsychologische Status verbesserte sich. Einige Krankheitsbewältigungsstrategien veränderten sich ebenfalls signifikant. Depressive Verarbeitungsstile, kognitive Vermeidung und Dissimulation, Gefühlskontrolle und sozialer Rückzug verminderten sich, während Problemanalyse und Lösungsverhalten sich erhöhten. Die Ergebnisse zeigen einen verbesserten psychologischen und kognitiven Status und weniger Anfälle. Die Psychotherapie von Patienten mit dissoziativen Anfällen auf einer neuropsychiatrischen Epilepsiestation scheint ein erfolgversprechender Ansatz zu sein.

Abstract:

Abstract This experiment evaluated the effects of pellet die thickness and conditioning temperature on microbial phytase stability. Treatments were arranged as a 2 × 3 factorial of die thickness (5.6 and 8.0 length:diameter [L:D]) and conditioning temperature (74, 79, and 85°C). Phytase was added to a corn-soybean meal-based diet. The diet was steam conditioned (245 × 1397 mm Wenger twin staff pre-conditioner, Model 150) and pelleted (CPM Model 1012-2) with a 4 × 22.2 mm (5.6 L:D) or 4 × 31.8 mm (8.0 L:D) pellet die. Conditioner retention time was set at 30 s and production rate was set at 15 kg/min. All treatments were replicated over 3 days. Conditioned mash and pellet samples were collected and immediately placed in an experimental counter-flow cooler for 15 min. Samples were analyzed for phytase activity and pellet durability index (PDI). Conditioning temperature, hot pellet temperature (HPT), and production rate were recorded throughout each processing run. Data were analyzed using PROC GLIMMIX in SAS (v. 9.4), with pelleting run as the experimental unit and day as the blocking factor. There was no evidence (P &gt;0.14) for any die thickness × conditioning temperature interactions. Pelleting with the 8.0 L:D die increased (P &lt; 0.01) HPT (83.2 and 84.2°C) and PDI (81.9 and 89.7%). Increasing conditioning temperature from 74 to 85°C increased (linear, P&lt; 0.03) HPT (80.1, 83.6, and 87.5°C , respectively) and PDI (84.3, 84.9, and 88.2%, respectively) and decreased (linear, P&lt; 0.01) phytase stability from 97.1 to 35.8% in conditioned mash and from 60.8 to 25.9% in cooled pellets. There was no difference (P &gt;0.72) in stability due to die thickness. Results of this experiment demonstrated phytase stability decreased linearly as temperature rose above 74°C. Although the thicker pellet die increased HPT and PDI, the rise in HPT was not great enough to reduce phytase stability.

Viel gebracht hat mir das nicht, denn in diesem Kurs waren ausschließlich Landsleute. Also musste ich ziemlich schnell ins kalte Wasser springen und begann zu arbeiten. Das war hart.
