Abstract:
Upon removal from a reactor spent nuclear fuel is placed into water storage for a period of time since water provides both a decay heat sink and radiation shielding. In the UK this fuel has traditionally been reprocessed however the decision has been made that this will cease in 2018 in favour of an open fuel cycle and direct disposal to a degological disposal facility, although this is not expected to be available until 2075. Current experience with pond storage has found that fuel can be safely stored in caustic dosed ponds for at least 25 years and therefore the current plan is to extend wa

This understanding has been accepted and shared by current Web Services vendors, users, professionals and standards organiz

The purpose of this study was to examine faculty reluctance to providing students with access to course resources via the Internet. The study explored known barriers to the use of technology and the Internet within educational settings and provided opportunity for new barriers to be presented. Personal and professional demographic factors were collected to determine if certain characteristics were identifiable as predictors to web enhancement. An online survey was designed to collect data to address research questions in the study. The survey consisted of 48 questions, including areas for c

RDF is widely used in the Semantic Web for representing ontology data. Many real world RDF collections are large and contain complex graph relationships that represent knowledge in a particular domain. Such large RDF collections evolve as a consequence of their representation of the changing world. Evolution in Semantic Web content produces difference files (deltas) that track changes between ontology versions. These changes may represent ontology modifications or simply changes in application data. An ontology is typically expressed in a combination of OWL, RDFS and RDF knowledge representati

This study aims at measuring the impact of web-based self and peer assessment activities in a physics university level course. These assessment activities were integrated into a first year experimental physics course. Fifty seven students participated in the asynchronous self and peer assessment activities. Dependent variables included: measures of students' monitoring abilities, the use of peer assessment to reinforce self assessment and the degree to which students endorsed the activities. Due to missing data the repeated measure design had to be replaced by descriptive statistics. Data

An examination of extant historical and literary evidence for the purpose of questioning the standard paradigm of the "Germanization of Christianity". While the melding and inclusion of both Mediterranean and Teutonic elements in Anglo-Saxon poetry has been the subject of extensive research, until relatively recently, scholars have attributed this dynamic largely to a central manipulation of the Christian message by the Roman church with a view towards making it compatible with the societal mores of the (relatively) newly convt..rted Northern Europeans. Cost estimation for web applications is an interesting and difficult challenge for researchers and industrial practitioners. It is a particularly valuable area of ongoing commercial research. Attaining on accurate cost estimation for web applications is an essential element in being able to provide competitive bids and remaining successful in the market. The development of prediction techniques over thirty years ago has contributed to several different strategies. Unfortunately there is no collective evidence to give substantial advice or guidance for industrial practitioners. Therefore to add

Video over the web is gaining a lot of popularity nowadays. Video is used as an information sharing mechanism in a number of spheres like communication, entertainment, and education. Video essentially transfers the visual and auditory information captured by the camera from a scene to a viewer. When videos are rendered over web browsers many opportunities emerge to provide additional information channels over the video. The Reality over Web (RoW) is an attempt at loading the video with additional information. RoW overlays a two way channel on top of the video which can transfer information betw

The Internet's growing acceptance as a key medium to educate people is the main focus of this thesis. Although distance education has been a popular learning method since the end of the 19th Century, never before has technology made it so easy to disseminate knowledge by linking different media formats---e.g. text, sound, video. In fact, this huge library accessed by a universal interface, is one of the key contributions that the Internet and the World-Wide Web have brought to the learning process.<br>The main goal of this thesis is to encourage instructors to create and deliver courses using
