Abstract:
Background: Powdery mildew is a significant fungal disease that poses a serious threat to wheat production worldwide. It reduces grain yield and quality by damaging plant tissues and inhibiting photosynthesis. Early infection can lead to substantial crop losses, making effective management and control strategies critical for maintaining wheat productivity and ensuring food security. Aim: In the current investigation, an effort was made to confirm the resistance with gene linked markers in the genotypes showing phenotypic resistance to powdery mildew in the field conditions under epiphytotic co

The root system architecture has bearing on realizing the yield potential of genotypes. The 24 popular wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) varieties released during the last 50 years for North Western Plain Zone (NWPZ) of India were used to study root traits and yield contributing traits two years and three locations. Association between the deeper root angles and yield were significant and the number of tillers is also associated with the number and angular distribution of crown roots. There is a relative adjustment in yield attributing and root architectural traits of varieties. The varieties HD308

Two strains of subdivision 1 Acidobacteria , a pink-pigmented bacterium KA1T and a colourless isolate WH120T, were obtained from acidic Sphagnum peat and wood under decay by the white-rot fungus Hyploma fasciculare, respectively. Cells of these isolates were Gram-negative-staining, non-motile, short rods, which were covered by large polysaccharide capsules and occurred singly, in pairs, or in short chains. Strains KA1T and WH120T were strictly aerobic mesophiles that grew between 10 and 33 °C, with an optimum at 22–28 °C. Both isolates developed under acidic conditions, but strain WH120T was m

Tolerance to water deficit in relation to activities of sucrose-to- starch metabolizing enzymes and starch accumulation was studied in the grains of contrasting wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes (WH1021 and WH1080; tolerant) and (WH711 and HD2687; susceptible) under late planting conditions. The activities of starch metabolizing enzymes i.e. sucrose synthase (SuSase), ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPase), soluble starch synthase (SSS) and starch branching enzymes (SBE) were substantially enhanced by water deficit in all genotypes at early to mid-grain filling stage showing peaks at 14 t

Aeromonas veronii, an opportunistic pathogen toward aquatic organisms, was identified as the causative pathogen (isolate WH10) in diseased bronze gudgeon via bacterial isolation, and morphological, physiological, biochemical, and molecular characterization. WH10 exerted its pathogenicity via five virulence genes, including those encoding cytotoxic enterotoxins (act and alt), lipase (lip), a quorum sensing-controlled virulence factor (LuxS), and a Type III secretion system inner membrane component (ascV). WH10 was shown to be sensitive to compound sulfamethoxazoles, cefothiophene, doxycycline,

Aim: To screen wheat populations derived from cross DBW17 × WH1105 for loci imparting yellow rust resistance and selection of plants using polymorphic SSRs. Methodology: The study for yellow rust resistance was carried out on two populations, i.e., BC1F2 and BC2F2. Stress was provided by planting infector rows between the blocks and by artificial inoculation using a mixture of races 46S102, 47S103 and 78S84 of stripe rust pathogen. DNA isolated from young leaves was checked for the presence of yellow rust resistance genes using gene specific primers. Results: Fifteen primers were found to be p

The present experiment aims to evaluate the effects of incremental levels of water hyacinth (WH) in Para grass (Brachiaria mutica) based on the diet on nutrient intake, digestibility, and nitrogen retention of growing swamp buffaloes. Four male buffaloes of 305 ± 8.40 kg were allocated in a 4x4 Latin square design. The treatments were 25, 50, 75, and 100% WH (DM basis), replacing the Para grass (PG) corresponding to WH25, WH50, WH75, and WH100 treatment.
