To address the low overlap between reviewer comments and the publication recommendations they make, as well as to suggest guidance on what kind of peer review report would benefit journals and editors the most, we introduced structured peer review to Elsevier journals and analyzed its effect in our June 2024 paper: peerj.com/articles/17514/ . To further promote the implementation of the structured peer review process and help reviewers prepare thorough review reports, in this paper, we present our set of structured peer review questions in a checklist format.

Bermingham, Rowena. Virology, immunology, epidemiology and COVID-19: What are experts concerned about? Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.58248/hs08.

Full text
Abstract:
Over 1,100 experts have shared with us their concerns about COVID-19 and COVID-impacted areas in the immediate and longer term future. This report outlines concerns about virology, immunology and epidemiology. Experts have concerns about the accurate and thorough recording of who is dying from COVID-19 and what demographic they belong to. They worry that there are gaps in the understanding of how the virus spreads, and how symptoms progress. Experts are also concerned about the potential for additional COVID-19 waves, and the impact of seasonality. They are worried about the long term health i

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this project was to develop an impact framework for the Science Gallery Network (SGN). This work was commissioned by the Science Gallery International (SGI). The SGN has eight member organisations across four continents: Dublin, London, Melbourne, Bengaluru, Detroit, Rotterdam, Atlanta and Berlin. Whilst the network consistently sees unprecedented levels of accomplishment by its members, a testimony to their capacity, innovation and vision, the SGN does not have a systematic way to measure and monitor this impact. An impact framework that can assist with understanding and reporting

Full text
Abstract:
According to the current standard specifications and special provisions within the Illinois Department of Transportation, four quality assurance (QA) parameters are used to assess acceptability to remain in place for hot-mix asphalt (HMA) construction projects. However, when these parameters fall outside acceptable limits, it is not clear what impact this has on the pavement service life. This report, therefore, conducted a thorough literature review of studies on QA parameters and their effects on pavement service life and studied the standard specifications of each state to determine what th

Abstract:
Globally, studies show that women in the labor force are paid less, hold fewer senior positions and participate less in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. A 2019 UNESCO report found that women represent only 29% of science R&D positions globally and are already 25% less likely than men to know how to leverage digital technology for basic uses. As the use and development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to mature, its time to ask: What will tomorrows labor market look like for women? Are we effectively harnessing the power of AI to narrow gender equalit

Abstract:
Gender issues have become a part of mainstream Cambodian politics over the last decade, and gender-neutral electoral systems have been developed in cooperation between donors and government. Female representation has been achieved primarily through direct and indirect elections at different levels. And although Cambodia is a male-dominated culture in a patrimonial society, attention has turned to attracting female voters, and the strategic importance of female leaders and role models is being slowly realised. Predictably, driven by popular demand, gender issues have become a part of mainstream

Full text
Abstract:
This report describes in full detail the calculations used by KAI in its software product PIPELIFE which is used to calculate fatigue crack-growth life. The results of analyses performed for standard benchmark cases supplied by PRCI were reported for comparison with the results obtained by other practitioners participating in the exercise. Preliminary comparisons of those results indicated that KAIs results were in good agreement with those obtained by other participants. A more-thorough comparison of the results presented herein identified the apparent differences in the calculations. Severa

Review question / Objective: A scoping review with specific reference to the context of Deaf populations, in relation to Deaf people’s experience of health and mental health services, including the use of a questionnaire regarding their experience as a patient, is needed in order to assess and synthesise the current knowledge. As this is an exploratory type of review drawing on qualitative as well as quantitative work, the PICo approach Population, (Phenomena of) Interest and Context, will guide the question formulation.
