One of the promising ways to achieve high speed and smooth running of rail vehicles during stable movement in straight sections of the track and to improve the characteristics of fitting the vehicles in a curve is the use of independently rotating wheels in their running parts. Such undercarriages are already becoming quite widespread, for example, in urban rail transport vehicles. But independently rotating wheels can rotate in a wheel pair around a common axis with different angular velocities. It follows that during their movement, longitudinal creep forces do not arise, which form the cont

One of the most acute problems faced today by Railway Transport Companies is the rapid wear of locomotive wheel borders in the freight transport. Hence, the purpose of this article is to find ways to reduce the forces acting on the wheels of railway vehicles, generally during their movement in small radius turns. For means of simplification has been assumed that the train is moving at uniform speed during a curved path. Analyzing the scheme of action of forces on the pair of wheels, we see that one of the ways to reduce this consumption phenomenon is to reduce the parasitic moment of frictiona

In this work, to identify the optimum between the hardness of the wheel and the rail, which ensures minimal wear, methods were used to determine wear by mass loss (volumetric wear) and by micrometric measurement of the size of the imprint (linear wear). It has been shown that the optimal range of wheel and rail hardness, determined by measuring (reducing) the size of the indentation, is in the range of 1.38-1.55. This interval practically confirms the wear identified by mass loss of 1.41-1.58. Based on these data, it is recommended to use the average value of the ratio between them, namely, 1.

Abstract:
This paper presents a kinematic yaw rate estimator which combines measurements obtained from a pair of accelerometers and ABS wheel speed sensors of the non-driven wheels. The Extended Kalman Filter methodology has been used for realization of this sensor fusion-based estimator. The estimator adapts to variations in reliability levels of individual sensors. The estimator performance is validated and corresponding estimation errors are analyzed by computer simulations for different driving maneuvers.
